Julie Turnquist

I was born into a loving Christian home which had quite an influence
on my life. It was at the age of nine that I received the Lord as my
Savior during children's church. When I was twelve years old I
dedicated my life to Christ's service. It was at this time I felt
God calling me to serve Him as a missionary.

After finishing high school I went to Moody Bible Institute and
Calvary Bible College. After graduating from Calvary I taught three
years at a Christian school in Alabama. In 1978 I left for Zaire to
teach two years at the Ubangi Academy (UBAC), a school for missionary
children. I returned to the States in 1980 and worked on getting
teacher's certification.

I became a candidate with the EFCM in 1982. In the fall of 1983 I left
for one and a half years of French studies in France. I returned to
Zaire in 1985 where I spent two terms teaching at Lycee Lua, a
boarding school for Zairian girls. We were evacuated in 1991. I
returned to Zaire in September of 1992 and spent one year teaching
four first graders at Tandala. In 1993 I returned to UBAC where I
taught the upper elementary grades until 1996 when I returned home for
a year of home assignment.

Because of the civil war in Zaire, which has now gone back to the name
of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), I left for Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania to teach fourth grade at Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC). In
1998, I was officially reassigned to Tanzania. I served at HOPAC until
June 2005.

On September 1st, 2005 I started working at the Rockford Resource Center (RRC) in Rockford, Illinois. I am the White Cross Coordinator for all the White Cross supplies that are sent to RRC from mainly Evangelical Free Church groups and individuals all around the US. These supplies are shipped to Romania, Mongolia, Ukraine, Congo, Central African Republic and Haiti.

Shortly after the earthquake in Haiti, the Rockford Resource Center was designated as the collection place for supplies needed in Haiti. Phil Falconer and I are responsible for preparing shipments for Haiti and the other places where we send supplies.

Nubako & Claudine Selenga

For over 85 years the Evangelical Free Church of America has
faithfully been sending missionaries from America to Africa. God is
now doing an exciting new work in giving the African Church a heart
for missionary work in Africa.

In April of 2007 EFCA ReachGlobal missionaries serving in Africa
gathered in Nairobi, Kenya for their biennial conference. For the very
first time, African National Partner leaders from the Democratic
Republic of Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania and Liberia were invited as
participants. Key discussions that week included issues related to
multiplying healthy churches among all people.

During those days together the Lord began to lay on the hearts of the
African Church leaders their responsibility to reach Africa's
unreached people! They heard and courageously accepted the call of God
to raise up a generation of African Church planting missionaries.

In August 2007 and 2008 EFCA ReachGlobal leaders met with these
African Free Church leaders to map out a plan and formulate a missions
strategy for this new alliance of African Evangelical Free Churches
called ReachAfrica.

The initial focus was to mobilize prayer and missionary vision in each
of their own countries as well as seek to send church planting
missionaries to Togo, Niger and Sudan.

A multiplication church planting training manual was developed so that
one hundred Master Trainers of church planters can be mobilized and
equipped to train, mentor and coach thousands of grassroots church
planters who will influence the multiplication of tens of thousands of
healthy churches among all un-reached people groups beginning in 2010.

After serving for eight years as President of the Congo Free Church,
Pastor Selenga was their unanimous choice to lead this new movement.
In addition, the leadership of EFCA ReachGlobal invited Pastor Selenga
to join the ReachGlobal Africa LeadTeam. This means that he will
become the first indigenous African missionary serving with the EFCA.
Pastor Selenga has a clear passion for ReachAfrica.

"My vision for ReachAfrica is to see all peoples of Africa
transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. ReachAfrica's Mission
is to glorify God by multiplying healthy, contextualized churches
through holistic ministry among all unreached peoples of
Africa."

First Free has the great privilege of contributing to the
Selengas' support beginning in May 2011.

John & Lori Robb

Lori, who is the daughter of Don and Gen Erickson, grew up at First
Free with a desire to be a missionary from a young age. John and Lori
Robb were married here at First Free in 1971 while completing their
graduate school training to serve as missionaries in Malaysia where
they served for seven years with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship.
Lori taught music, and led a choir and counseled young people while
John served as a pastor, seminary lecturer and mission mobilizer for
unreached peoples.

Since that time, Lori has continued her music career as a pipe
organist and pianist, teaching children piano and serving several
churches while raising three children of our own, all of whom are now
adults. She founded and led a chapter of Women of Vision in Southern
California. She currently plays the organ and leads the prayer
ministry at our church in Albuquerque, New Mexico where we now live.

For the last 23 years, during his work with World Vision, a Christian
humanitarian agency, John travelled extensively throughout the world,
leading prayer and mission initiatives, consultations and seminars for
national Christian leaders and World Vision staff in more than 100
countries. With international teams of prayer facilitators, he has led
interdenominational prayer initiatives in over 50 of these nations.
During such initiatives, extraordinary social, political and
ecclesiastical changes have often taken place as God has answered
prayer in stunning ways to bring about breakthroughs of reconciliation
and restoration in hopeless situations of war, corruption and
oppression.

Currently, John serves as Chairman for the International Prayer
Council, a network of regional and national prayer ministries and
networks around the world that came into being after 9/11. The IPC
focuses on global issues of common concern to the Body of Christ such
as war, terrorism, HIV/AIDS, and other humanitarian issues, as well as
on the fulfillment of the Great Commandment and the completion of the
Great Commission. He and his colleagues helped to launch and support
the Global Day of Prayer that has helped unite over 300 million
Christians in more than 200 nations to pray for the transformation of
our world. In 2006, the IPC organized and led the first Global
Children in Prayer Consultation and, in 2008, have just completed the
second global consultation with CiP practitioners from 35 nations. In
2007, the IPC brought together over 400 prayer leaders and
intercessors for the first international prayer initiative held for
the United Nations and are planning a repeat there in 2009. They are
looking ahead to arrange a World Prayer Assembly in 2012, hopefully
with prayer leaders from every nation taking part.

John and Lori have been married for 37 years and have three
children-Kristina, Erik and Justin-all of whom love and serve the
Lord. Their new grandson, Cameron, and two St. Bernard dogs, Blake and
Charlotte, are also a special joy. They especially like reading,
walking, travelling and interacting with people from diverse cultures.

Both were trained in discipleship and evangelism by the Navigators.
Even before their marriage in 1976 both Donna and Ernie were called of
God to serve as missionaries outside of American culture. Between 1979
and 1985 Ernie studied at Trinity International University where he
earned two master's degrees. Meanwhile Donna used her master's
degree from I.U. to work as a speech therapist.

In 1985 their first daughter, Jill, was born, and in January 1987 they
left for the Philippines as missionaries with the Evangelical Free
Church Mission. After a year of language study, they moved to Cebu
City, the second largest in the Philippines where Ernie began teaching
at the Evangelical Theological College of the Philippines (ETCP),
which is the Free Church school for training pastors.

Lauren was born in Cebu City in 1988. Kyle arrived during a home
assignment in Illinois in 1990. Donna joined the teaching faculty at
ETCP in 1991. In 1995 the Manges family took a study leave and moved
to Scotland where Ernie earned his Ph.D. in Church History from the
University of Edinburgh.

In 2007 God expanded Ernie and Donna's ministry to include:

Teaching Filipino pastors and workers at the seminary in the
Philippines

Training Christian workers in other Asian nations

Professional development of ReachGlobal missionaries on the field

Dan & Kimberly Reeve

Dan Reeve began as CSM's third president in September of 2008.
Before coming to CSM, Dan served seventeen years as Urban Mission
Director for the Evangelical Free Church Urban -Intercultural Mission.
Dan's passion for often-forgotten people in urban America was born
from his own experiences growing up on the streets of New York City
and having his life transformed by a small urban Church that adopted
him. Dan has a Bachelor's degree in Religious Education from
Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD and an M-Div. Degree in Urban
Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He has served
inner-city congregations in Brooklyn, NY, Chicago, IL, and
Minneapolis, MN. He has also served as adjunct faculty at Northwestern
College in Roseville, MN and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in
Deerfield, IL.

Dan is driven by the conviction that the greatest needs of all urban
and ethnic Americans is the people of God building relationships,
empowering people, becoming incarnate in the lives of often forgotten
people in a holistic way. He believes that it is this present
generation that can bring transformation to at risk communities. This
conviction also drives Dan to spend many hours in the urban
"trenches" sharing his faith on the streets and mentoring
inner-city youth.

If you ask him what he likes to do for fun he'll tell you it
depends on his mood. He can be found making furniture in his wood
shop, sailing on a lake, hiking in the hills or gabbing away about
missions to anyone who listens. Dan and his wife Kimberly live in
Brooklyn, NY. Dan has three daughters - Rebecca, Bethany and
Christine, two son-in-laws Tom and Jesus and yes, he's a
grandfather to grandson Manuel.

Lareau and Evie founded Barnabas International in 1986. (See more
about this in the history
of Barnabas International.) They currently serve as Senior Associates.
Lareau formerly served as the Executive
Director of Barnabas International. Lareau has twenty years of
pastoral experience in the U.S. He also served for three years as the
President of Holy Land Studies.

His areas of ministry are broad based and include preaching, teaching,
conference speaking, pastoral counseling, leadership development,
retreats, and writing. Evie, a registered nurse,
travels with Lareau supporting both him and these ministries. She also
assists with the women's ministries of Barnabas and is available
for speaking, teaching, and counseling at women's conferences and
retreats.

Since stepping out of the administrative loop, Laureau and Evie have more quality time for study,
meditation, and prayer. This has led to a fruitful writing ministry. In addition to the monthly
letters of ENCOURAGEMENT, Lareau has written two books: TOO SOON TO QUIT and WHY LORD, WHY?
His book on the glory of God, IS THAT ALL THERE IS, will be published in the Fall of 2007.
They still do overseas ministry in retreats and conferences.

Dave & Jan Harthan

The Wycliffe work started in Mexico in 1934, spread to other countries
in the Americas, Asia, Africa, and many places around the world.
Because Bible translation programs in any given country start at
different times and take many years to complete, they obviously finish
at different times. The work in the Americas is the most progressed,
and the official Wycliffe presence and large support centers have
closed in several locations. However there still are many translation
programs that are continue to be active. Those translators need help
to finish their translation programs. Most of this help involves
consultants in the areas of translation, linguistics, and literacy.
The role of the Director of Language Services covers two principal
areas: 1) Directing the work of the consultants, and 2) Overseeing the
training (in Spanish and Portuguese) of nationals who want to become
Bible translators.

Wycliffe wanted someone with leadership experience, language program
management experience, and fluency in either Spanish or Portuguese to
fill this position. Jan and I have prayed about this for several
weeks, and we feel that God has led me to accept this role. This is an
exciting time to see Bible translation finishing up in the Americas,
and I feel honored to be asked to have a key role on the team that has
this responsibility. God has given me many years of preparation in
leadership, language programs management, fluency in Portuguese, and
somewhat rusty Spanish.

We will remain here at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, NC. My staff will
be scattered from Canada to South America. Technology has shrunk the
world. Jan will continue to do editing in both English and Portuguese.

Enrique and Becky Fernandez

Family and Home Church

Enrique and Becky live in Costa Rica. Their son Hector and his wife
Michelle live in New York City, and their daughter Liza recently
graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, and now works for
ReachGlobal Home Office.

Testimony

Enrique accepted the Lord at an early age, but recommitted his life to
Him as a university student. Becky accepted the Lord as a child
through the ministry of her father.

Education and Experience

Enrique holds a degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as an M.
Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a PhD in
Intercultural Studies from Trinity International University. Enrique
has planted churches and been a pastor in Guatemala and Miami. He has
taught theology and trained leaders in Latin America, India and Kenya.
Becky has a degree in Psycho-pedagogy and has ministered with Enrique
through an extended training ministry among women.

Call

Enrique was called to ministry while serving his home church and
leading the Guatemalan chapter of the International Fellowship of
Evangelical Students. After struggling with Existentialism and
materialist philosophy early in college, Enrique saw the
incompatibility of these movements with his faith, and decided to
trust the Lord only and serve him fully. This call was confirmed by
family and spiritual mentors in Guatemala.

After working as an electrical engineer, in 1985 Enrique entered into
full time ministry.

Becky was called to ministry as a teenager. She has developed a
special concern for young people and women in ministry.

Enrique & Becky are presently overseeing Latin American Training
Network, which provides masters degree level education to Spanish
speaking Christian workers throughout the world.

Ministry

Enrique and Becky have been missionaries with the EFCA since 1992,
first working in church planting in Miami and theological education in
Latin America. More recently, from 1999 to 2005, Enrique led the EFCA
Urban & Intercultural Mission, serving to 25 ethnic groups and
over 270 ethnic congregations.

At the end of 2005 Enrique and Becky joined the Latin America Training
Network (LATN), a ministry of the EFCA International Mission, to
provide training and teaching to Christian leaders in Latin America
and the U. S.

Today, more than ever, the Latin American Church and the Latino
churches in the U. S. need quality leadership to launch a church
planting movement, and training to cop with false doctrines and social
challenges they face in their ministry.

LATN provides Latin America's evangelical leaders with accessible
and cost-efficient theological education, allowing leaders to grow and
learn without requiring them to leave their existing countries,
ministries, jobs, or families. LATN strengthens Latin American
churches by assisting with the development of their own leaders. LATN
develops and shares courses with other Latin American theological
institutions, thus helping to strengthen the Kingdom of God through
strategic partnerships.

With their culture, language, studies, and experience, Enrique and
Becky are key to the training of this new generation of leaders.

The World's Oral Majority. All the peoples of the world
communicate in one of two ways. Approximately 25% are
literate. They use (read-reflect) abstract communication. The
vast majority, approximately 75% are oral, and
use (do-tell) concrete communication. The literate and oral worlds are
very different. What one world understands
"automatically" the other may not. What one world prefers,
the other may not.

Among the oral majority, God's Word needs to be told with the
language of the oral world. If not, miscommunication occurs. Compare
how different this communication can be!

Literate communicators say, "the universal spirit is wise."
Oral communicators say a spirit "has giant eyes and sees
all."

Literate communicators use "abstract laws" to express
important spiritual concepts. Oral communicators tell "the Good
News on Five Fingers," with gestures. Simply put, each
"world" is built on three pillars that are not pillars in
the other group!

The 25% literate world's pillars are: (1) time, (2) task and (3)
truth.

The 75% oral world's pillars are: (1) events, (2) relationships
and (3) stories.

Most Christians today live in oral cultures. Most non-Christians today
live in oral cultures. The percentage of non-readers in relation to
the world's population is increasing every day. Winning the
world to Christ, and then growing together in Christ, must be done
using oral, or spoken, means.

Katie Dudgeon

Background: Katie grew up in Chaska, MN where she
experienced cross-cultural ministry for the first time through
short-term trips to Mexico and Romania with her home church, Valley
EFC. While in college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she
spent a semester in Central America and furthered her interest in what
God was doing in Latin America and around the world. After graduating
with a B.A. in International Relations in 2000, she spent a year
working with a church planting team in Xalapa, Mexico through the Take
12 internship program of ReachGlobal.

Ministry Experience: In 2002, Katie moved to
Minneapolis to serve with ReachGlobal in recruitment and mobilization
as the director of the Take 12 internship program. She primarily
worked with U.S. churches to mobilize and prepare young adults to
serve cross-culturally, and was involved with orientation and training
events for new ReachGlobal missionaries. It was through these
experiences-equipping young adults and new missionaries-that she
realized how much she enjoyed helping others experience personal
growth and sharpen their ministry skills. In January of 2006, Katie
sensed God leading her to get more theological training and moved to
California to begin a master's degree at Talbot School of
Theology. In January 2007 Katie accepted a part-time position in the
Women's Ministries department at First Evangelical Free Church of
Fullerton.

Current Ministry: After three vision trips to Mexico
City, Costa Rica and Spain in the Fall of 2010, Katie was invited to
join the new city team in Madrid, Spain with ReachGlobal. She is
excited to see how God is bringing together her desire to be part of
starting churches, her interests in evangelism and leadership
training, and her love for Spanish in this incredible new ministry
opportunity in Madrid! With 70-80% unaffiliated with any church and
only 1% identifying themselves as believers, there is a great need
for ministries that engage people spiritually and help them navigate
the challenges they face.

Vision:
To see the truth and beauty of the gospel permeate the cultural and
spiritual landscape of Madrid. A City Team is a comprehensive strategy
to minister to the city of Madrid through church planting, MK
education, compassion ministries, university ministry, Muslim
ministry, immigrant ministry, English and more.

Accomplished...
through church planting - creative evangelism, intentional
discipleship/mentoring, and developing leaders in ways that form
communities passionate about the gospel.

by focusing on young adults and young professionals:
unchurched, spiritually interested, searching, confused,
disillusioned, culturally engaged, socially aware, hungry for
community, etc.

in the city where the University and other schools are
located, near arts districts, business areas, etc.

with others who are like-minded.

by learning what is or has been done, building on or
complementing other churches or ministries, and developing
partnerships with Spanish leaders, church networks, missions
organizations, and Europeans.

Mark & Athlee Bowman

Mark: Birth - College: I was born in Dubuque
Iowa, where Dad was attending Wartburg Seminary. At the age of
two, Mom, Dad and my baby brother and I left for Japan. There
(here) I learned to enjoy seaweed, raw fish, and other goodies.
After graduating from an international school, I returned to the US
for college. I started at, what was then, Willmar College, returned to
Japan for a year of short- term work in a church, and then went to
Augustana College in Sioux Falls.

Athlee: I was born in Fredric, Wisconsin. When I was
three years old our family moved to Minneapolis, MN where my father
entered Luther Seminary. After his graduation he served three
different Minnesota parishes, the last one being in Willmar, MN where
I graduated from high school in 1972. After graduation, I
attended California Lutheran Bible School for one year then Augustana
College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Athlee &Mark: While in college, in 1974, Athlee (who I met
in Willmar a couple years earlier) and I were married. In
'82 we returned to Willmar and started attending the Willmar
EFC. In '84 we were accepted with the EFCM as career
missionaries to Japan. From '85 to '87 we were at
Trinity Seminary, then after raising support left for Japan in June
1989 with three children ages
8, 10, 12, to work as church planting missionaries.

Children: Sarah & her husband Peter began attending
Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN. They are preparing to go to
Russia as missionaries with WEC International. David
heads to Mongolia October 2001 for missions work. Aaron
is a junior at the University of Minnesota.

Ministry: It has been exciting being a part of seeing the Lord
work in the Sapporo EFC. Kaji Sensei is a forward thinker and mover.
By our first anniversary we had the regular Sunday morning service in
Sapporo, and evening Japanese / English service and a Saturday
afternoon service in Chitose. A few of the Chitose people attend both
at Sapporo and at Chitose, but that number is lessening (thankfully).
The English Service was something we had talked about earlier, but I
was not able to commit to on a regular basis. When a person who had
studied for 6 years joined the Sapporo church she was approached
regarding translation of Kaji Sensei's messages into English. I
have preached an average of once a month - once in Japanese and twice
in English. The second service is primarily geared to students with a
supper meal after the service. So there is the opportunity to rub
shoulders with the younger generation.

One ministry that has been fun for me is the Coffee & Chat. It is
our Tuesday, 4:30 - 7:30 outreach, primarily geared to the students
across the street. There are non-students who also attend, but
primarily students. Donned in an apron it is a ministry that is
different enough from what I usually do to be refreshed by it. It is
not unusual to stay longer than 7:30 because of questions about
spiritual things.

Personal

Married Sept. 2, 1989, to Valerie. Two sons, Trevor (born: 10/4/90)
and Jason (born: 3/10/92). Family moved to Cambridge, MN., on Sept. 1,
1997. Became members of First Baptist Church, Cambridge, later that
year and continue to serve in the church.

CSB Ministries' Vision Statement

We envision a world where committed men and boys, women and girls,
recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, modeling Christ-like
character to the glory of God in order to transform society for
Christ.

CSB Ministries' Mission Statement

Our mission is to win and develop children and youth to be leaders for
Christ in their families, churches and communities. We strive to do so
through strengthening churches by equipping men who are committed to
God's Word to win and train boys as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Gary's Missionary Responsibilities

Full-time regional director for the Upper Midwest, which consists of
Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota. Currently
serve 27 churches in the region. I offer leadership, service, training
and encouragement to men involved in church ministry to other men and
boys. My regional responsibilities are to:

Assist CSB churches in developing and maintaining programs for men
that involve various fathering, outreach and discipleship age-group
ministries sponsored by CSB, including Tadpoles, Tree Climbers,
Stockade and Battalion.

Contact new churches and individuals with an interest in
implementing Brigade or GEMS ministries in their congregations or
communities. CSB began a ministry partnership with GEMS (Girls
Everywhere Meeting the Savior), based in Grand Rapids, MI., in
2007.

Meet with pastors to discuss the role of Brigade in their church
and to identify the needs of Christian men filling leadership
roles.

Conduct leadership training events on new CSB materials, along with
fathering seminars and workshops geared to foster the ongoing
ministry of Christian men to boys.

Serve as summer director at Camp Nathanael, the regional Brigade
camp located in Hinckley, MN. Camp responsibilities involve
preparing Bible study material and setting the spiritual tone;
planning and leading pre-camp training; recruiting and training
collegiate and high school staff; recruiting Freshman Work Crew
staff, plus adult and collegiate counselors. Help organize and lead
retreats, campouts and other regional events, designed to build
leadership responsibilities into young men and strengthen a
man's ability to interact with, befriend and instill Christian
character values into boys.

Recruit and disciple key men in a region to expand the total
Brigade ministry.

Promote the mission of Brigade at conventions, colleges and
seminaries.

Coordinate Twin Cities Stockade Basketball League each winter.

Write newsletters, prayer and missionary support letters to update
area leaders and friends on the status of CSB Ministries, both
regionally and nationally. Help raise financial support for the
national organization.

Funding Requirements

I am expected to raise 100 percent of the costs related to ministry,
including salary, taxes, medical insurance, and ministry field
expenses. My work must be supported entirely by contributions from
churches that run Brigade programs, camps, or individuals who believe
in the eternal impact and critical importance of this ministry.

Since 1937, CSB Ministries (formerly, Christian Service Brigade) has
gratefully depended on the contributions of individuals and
participating churches and camps for approximately 65 percent of its
operating income.

Financial support for Gary's ministry work should be designated
for the "Maloney family'' and mailed to:
CSB Ministries
P.O. Box 150
Wheaton, IL. 60189

Why do we need CSB Ministries in our world?

More than at any other time in our nation's history, boys
desperately need to know what it means to be a godly man. Sadly, men
are responsible for a vast majority of the violence, chemical
addiction, serious crimes, physical and mental abuse against women and
children, and the breakdown of families in our country.

Even for impressionable boys growing up in Christian homes, the
secular world bombards them with an unrelenting stream of messages
about what "they'' believe a man should be, causing
confusion and disillusionment, and often damaging their Christian walk
and witness once they prepare to enter that same sin-sick society as
young adults.

With God's guidance, CSB seeks to reach boys who need to hear the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, to witness its effects in everyday life, and
to know what it means to take up the cross and follow Him. To achieve
that goal, CSB strives to encourage Christian men to become more
actively involved in leadership and mentoring roles within their
church and community.

I committed my life to Christ when I was 17 years old. God put on my
heart a desire to share Christ with others and to help make disciples.
I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1978 with a degree in
Electrical Engineering and promptly joined the staff of Campus Crusade
for Christ. In 1985 I started my M.A. degree in Philosophy of Religion
at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School In 1986, Bridget and I got
married.

Bridget came from the Washington, D.C. area. She came to Christ while
a student at Gettysburg College. She also earned a masters degree in
College Administration from Michigan State University.

Bridget passed away in March 2011 after a battle with cancer.

We moved to the Twin Cities in 1987 to minister to college students,
and Brian was born in 1989. In 1991, I started working with
international students at the U of MN. In 1994, I changed ministry
organizations to work with China Outreach Ministries.

Why am I motivated to work with Chinese? China's brightest and
potentially most influential people are coming here to the U.S. to
study. Once they arrive, they are curious and open to finding out
about Christianity. Chinese who come to faith and return are often
placed in positions where they are able to make a big difference for
Christ!

Dave & Jan Harthan: December 2011 Year-End Ministry Report

Year-end Ministry Report:

Dave Harthan, Director of Language Program Services

Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts in support of our
ministry of Bible translation for minority people groups in the
Americas. Bible translation is such a fundamental part to accomplish
evangelism and church planting, and the indigenous peoples of the
Americas are not only counted among the "least of these," but without
the Word of God translated into their languages, they have no means to
hear the message of the Good News of forgiveness and salvation.

Dave, as Director of Language Program Services, is part of the
leadership team for finishing the work of Bible translation in the
Americas (North, Central, and South). The purpose of Language Program
Services is to provide the training and consultant services to
accomplish Bible translation leading to changed lives amongst
indigenous people groups in the Americas.

In the past year, Dave has directed the work to provide consultant
help for Bible translation, linguistic analysis and write-ups,
literacy material and classes, and computer support for 76 translation
projects across the Americas.

Bible translators and Literacy workers were trained in 2011 at the
following places:

University of North Dakota summer program 118

BIOLA 23

Lima, Peru (Spanish) 25 (from Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru,
and Venezuela)

Brasilia, Brazil (Portuguese) 11

Introductory Courses (brief courses in linguistics to give an
introduction to the work of Bible translation) were given in El
Salvador, Panama, Uruguay, Mexico, and Peru.

Teacher training to become an Introductory Course Teacher was given to
candidates from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Venezuela, Uruguay,
and Cuba. Yes, I did say Cuba. The course had to be offered in El
Salvador, but the Cubans received permission to attend. Cubans are now
allowed to leave Cuba for ministry purposes. We look forward in faith
to God raising up the first Cuban to become a Bible translator,

Linguistic training was given to 17 indigenous people from 10
different Peruvian people groups who are involved in either Bible
translation or Literacy among their people.

Jack and Beth Thompson have served with ReachGlobal in Eastern and Central Europe since 1995. They served in Romania from 1995-1998. While in Romania they were involved with the formation of Bucharest Christian Academy, a grades 1-12 school for missionary children. During this time they also became part of SHARE Education Services, a cooperative ministry formed to help missionary families with the educational needs of their children in the former Communist countries of Eastern Europe.

In 2000 the Thompsons moved to Budapest, Hungary, to work in SHARE's international office. Jack and Beth both served as educational consultants to missionary families. In addition to working with families, Jack also became the Business Manager for SHARE and Beth managed the resource library.

When they return to Budapest in 2008, after home assignment, the Thompsons will take on new ministry roles. Jack will become the ReachGlobal Europe Divisional Business Manager. Beth will begin orientation to teach English Language Learners (ESL) at the International Christian School of Budapest, a grades 1-12 missionary children's school. Jack and Beth will continue working as educational consultants to ReachGlobal families in Europe.

Rick & Becky Mackey

Rick and Becky Mackey both grew up in pastors' homes and accepted
Jesus as their Savior as children. They count it a blessing to have
grown up in strong Christian families.

Rick attended Cedarville College and earned a degree in Accounting
with a minor in Bible. After graduating, he attended Tentmakers Youth
Ministry Training in Minneapolis. He then served as our youth pastor
from 1991 to 1997. Toward the end of his ministry here, Rick led our
first missions trip to the Dominican Republic in 1997.

Becky attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Psychology
with a minor in Spanish. She continued her studies at Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School and received a Master of Arts in
Counseling Psychology in 1992.

Rick and Becky met in Minneapolis while he was at First Free and she
was a counselor at Nystrom and Associates in New Brighton. They were
married at First Free in 1995.

In 1997, Rick accepted a call to Calvary Evangelical Free Church in
Rochester, Minnesota. While living in Rochester, they adopted two
children, Benjamin and Elena. Rick continued to lead mission trips to
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic throughout his tenure at Calvary EFC.

Sensing a need for training lay leaders and church planters in rural
Dominican Republic, Rick and Becky followed God's leading in 2005
and began preparing for missionary work. They joined a mission, United
World Mission, that focuses on equipping nationals for church
planting. UWM's focus fit perfectly with Rick and Becky's
calling. In 2006 they left for Guatemala to study Spanish and began
working in the rural mountains of the Dominican Republic in 2007.

The Mackeys' goal is to come alongside Dominicans who have a
vision for planting rural churches and equip them to effectively do
the work to which God has called them. They work one on one with local
leaders, learning the vision God has placed in the nationals and
helping the nationals do God's work. They lead discipleship Bible
studies and seminary classes. They meet regularly with leaders helping
them think strategically. The Mackeys' work is a ministry of
Equipping others.

Roy & Sue Haglund

Roy and Sue Haglund are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship.
With their daughter Bethany, they have shared in a variety of
ministries with MAF. The Haglunds served in Central America and Africa
as a pilot mechanic family. Currently, Roy and Sue are serving at MAF
headquarters in Nampa, Idaho. Roy says, "I particularly enjoyed
starting two programs, one in Nicaragua in 1978 and one in Zambia in
1995." In his current position as cash manager and risk manager
at MAF headquarters, Roy has also enjoyed the challenge of upgrading
the budget and payroll software. Sue finds fulfillment working with
MAF staff as a counselor in Ministry Partnership, training new staff
in support raising skills, and assisting field, furlough and home
staff in support maintenance.

Roy grew up in the Chicago area and received Christ as his Savior when
he was 14. In high school he became interested in missions, but it
wasn't until after Roy graduated from Trinity College in
Deerfield, Illinois, that he felt a definite call to missionary
aviation. Roy earned a B. S. in missionary aviation technology at
Moody Aviation in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He holds a commercial
pilot's license with instrument rating, a certified flight
instructor/airplane and instrument, basic ground instructor's
ratings, and an airframe and powerplant mechanic's license. A
favorite verse for Roy is Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the
plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future.'" "It is so great to know I'm in God's
hands and that his plans for me will be accomplished," shares
Roy.

Sue grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She accepted Christ as her
Savior as a child, and when she was 15 she rededicated her life to the
Lord. While she was attending Trinity College, she met Roy and they
were married August 18, 1973. An alumna of Trinity College and the
University of Minnesota, she has a bachelor's degree in Home
Economics.

God used Sue's relationship with Roy to give her a vision for
missions. She comments, "When Roy and I married, we became
partners in this ministry. God has continuously provided opportunity
for me to use my gifts and abilities as a teammate." Philippians
1:6, "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in
you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ
Jesus," gives Sue the hope that God is continually molding,
shaping and making her usable for His glory.

To fund the worldwide ministry of MAF, God is faithful in providing
loyal, generous ministry support from His most caring people. He has
called the men and women of MAF to serve Him in a unique way. He is
also calling people like you around the world to play a special role
in the ministry of MAF.

You are invited to become a ministry partner in this strategic
ministry. Please prayerfully consider involvement with Roy and Sue
through prayer or financial support.

Bruce and Mary Damon have been serving in Macau since December 1993.
Previously they served in Hong Kong. Bruce first went to the field in
1975 as an independent missionary. He officially joined the
Evangelical Free Church Mission in 1982, the same year that Mary
arrived for a two-year short-term with the Free Church. They were
married in 1985 and returned to Hong Kong together the following year.

In Hong Kong, Bruce worked with a local Chinese congregation to help
plant three daughter churches. In Macau, he serves as field leader for
a team of American and Chinese (Hong Kong) missionaries. Together the
team established the first Evangelical Free Church in that city. By
2005, this church was ready to begin supporting its own pastoral
worker.

In the meantime Mary, a physical therapist, has been volunteering at a
special needs daycare center since their arrival in Macau. Beginning
with contacts from this ministry, the Damons' newest church plant
is geared toward families with mentally handicapped children, a
largely unreached people group.
