Boat Launching Procedures

So here it is.

I just bought a new boat and decided to take 'er for the maiden voyage this past weekend.

This is my first boat and I wasn't quite sure of the exact Standard Operating Procedures for launching it off a ramp, but I figured it couldn't be too hard.

I consulted my local boat dealer for advice, but they just said "don't let the trailer get too deep when you are trying to launch the boat".

What am I doing wrong?
Well, I don't know what they meant by that as I could barely get the trailer in the water at all!

Anyhow, here's a picture below. See for yourself. What am I doing wrong?

We have confirmed the Bait Demo by Brett Challenor for 30 July 6:30pm for 7pm. It will be presented at the Stealth shop in Centurion, off Jakaranda st, their no is 0126535328. There will be braai facilities afterwards as well as some crazy specials on the necessary tackle. So bring your notepad, a choppie to tan, and the drink of your choice!

Wow this is finally a dream come true for me, I have always wondered about having a plastic fishingski. This is just like a kayak but only better if it can be more like a fishingski. I just hope they can get it to work.

The Sprat Spoon is used to target Queen Mackerel, B0nito, Dorado and in the Surf to target Shad and a variety of Kingfish. With a length of 50mm, this spoon exactly resembles the size of the Spratfish and with it's 3D eyes and holographic shine is easily mistaken for the real deal. Popular with Deep Sea, Surf and estuary anglers. The spoon is flat on one side and rounded on the other side to give it a wounded baitfish action. Mayday Mayhem - Saily off Umhlanga

The launch was super easy and I put out two strip baits and set off for the barge - in the wake of about another 12 kayaks or so! With about 300m left to paddle i picked up a beaut of a bonnie, about the size of a big mackerel - and quickly got him onto a circle hook trace. I got my yozurri ready and paddled over the wreck, picking up 2 nice mackerels straight a way - I put one in the hatch and the other onto a nylon trace (0.75mm with 6O Diachi lead hook and a small VMC treble). With two baits in the water I started tracking up and down the wreck, and noticed there was quite a lot of surface action about 100m north of the wreck, so I headed out there - almost straight away my bonnie went away, I paddled a few strokes, picked up the rod, and the fish was off... Well that is what they say on the site!! I have never tested this boat but next time I am down in durban I will see if I can give it a bash, sounds like a very good boat, but the skill of catching fish is still up to the angler. Keep thoes reels screeming until next time.

Fishingcorner rocks

I found the great fishing site about a month ago, it is called fishingcorner it rocks. It is very well updated and really gets the fishing community involved. It has GPS marks for fishing spots (you need to be a member) and a really cool forum with lots of banter going around. It is also good for the ski boater, spear fisherman and the fishingski fisherman. Go and check it out, I love it.

Ifafa beach

There are no logical spots to launch at Ifafa beach because of the extensive in shore reef. However the beach north of it, namely baizly is launchable (sometimes). Paddle south towards Ifafa. There is reef everywhere, pull a snoek bait as you head south as the snoek can pull in in great numbers. Further out there are couta, kingies and a host of other game fish to be had. There is some good bottom fishing to be had just off the back line.

We have some new photos up in the gallery there have been reports of some good fish catches off the Bluff and Umdloti, I was witness to a session at Umdloti and managed to catch two Darado!! I saw heaps more fish comming out, Cuta, Tuna and Darado so please guys send your photos.

Just a few updates:

1) There is a article about corruption in Mozambique in the forums.
2) A report back from the Guinjata species competition: Paddleski vs Jetskis with some photos in the gallery.
3) I have updated the links page with a short description of each link plus we have some links to other boat manufactures. We want to be the first place you come to, to surf the internet looking for fishingski information.

Long time no blog. The site is still pumping and the forum very funny with two guys threatening to beat each other up. At the moment we have exceeded our bandwidth usage by over 100megs if that means anything to anybody (the web tech guy coming out in me).

The news is that there are still a good few newbie’s that are looking into the sport, so guys encourage them where ever you see them, because once you are hooked nothing else in your life matters.

Should be getting some updates soon so will keep you posted.
