I had always wanted a small, but attractive, aquarium for my desk. I came across this one on Amazon and thought, this is it! It works great with African Dwarf Frogs, I bought two and there is plenty of room for them and their plants. The initial investment ran me about $40 total which included food, a small net, the plant, rocks, water conditioner, etc. I did find mine at Petsmart, but there are more colors/sizes and a lot of sale prices through Amazon that were comparable. I loved the light because its made of LEDs and does not get hot. I’m rather paranoid about hot light bulbs and plastic.

I bought a 3 gallon Tetra tank from Wal-Mart for my wife and within first two weeks all three of my fish died. First one got stuck behind filter other two got stuck to filters intake an died. When I called Tetra they said it was my fault and told me I could pull filter out or buy different filter. They also said twice that a superviser would call me back but three weeks later still no word. Why would I pull out filter or buy new one when I bought that set with filter.

Do not buy this fish killing machine…

I had my male beta in a 1.5 for about 6 months. He was pretty happy here. Tetra has a great system in place to email you reminders on how to care for your new tank. I was told to change the water 50% every week. They even send you reminders on when to change the filter. It helped me a lot, as I tend to be a bit scatterbrained.

The only complaints I have (and the reason for 3 stars) is that the air pump that came with the tank lost a lot of it’s umph after about 3 months and the water was trickling out of the filter. I had to replace it with a better one. Also, the LED lights are very dim. When I put my fish in his new home, he was scared to death of the light, having been in a much dimmer home for a while.

This is a good starter tank for anyone thinking about getting into fish. The small size means water changes are fairly easy (one gallon of distilled water is easy to pick up weekly) and it was reasonably quiet and easy to fit in a small space.

My son wanted to adopt one of his nursery school goldfish at the end of the school year, so I set off to buy a small aquarium set that was inexpensive and easy. Found this at Target and was very happy. Overall, it was easy to set up - the built in light is cute, but we don’t use it often. Having a hood is essential, and we’ve had no issues with condensation - maybe because we live in a not-overly-humid environment? (New England).

We use the drawer to store spare filters. The online site has been helpful -but avoid the forums. People there are real die-hards, and I’ve been accused of abusing our fish by keeping it in a small tank with fake plants. We had no problems with the pegs for the plants - great system.

Keep in mind it does not include gravel, or a check valve for the filter tubing and of course food is not included. It also does not include a little fish net, the little sponge on a stick to clean the tank, or a gravel vacuum. I had no idea I needed all of these things (except food of course) for a little tank. But all of those things at your local fish store will run about $10.

A cute set I would highly recommend for 1-2 small fish.

This was my first purchase on Amazon.com and I must say that I am really impressed. The fish tank arrived very fast, was in brand new condition and had everything I needed to get it set up, along with easy to read instructions. My only regret is that I could not get a larger tank for the price.

I purchased this for my girlfriend and I have to say it came out to be a great gift. Even though it is the smallest of the BiOrbs, the Baby is still pretty big. I would say its enough space for several small fish or a few of the mid-sized variety. Right now ours is holding 4 standard sized Tiger Barbs, a small African frog and a fiddler crab with room for plenty more. The orb design of the bowl magnifies its contents visually depending on your angle of view and you can get some pretty extreme closeups of your fish. However be careful not to set the bowl where sunlight shines down on it, not just to keep algae from growing faster but also because the bowl can also direct the light into a beam that is capable of causing fire much like a magnifying glass. Your well warned of this in the directions though. This has not been an issue with ours and is just said in precaution. My favorite part of buying this was how easy it was to set up. You have the bowl, a filter, your gravel media and some plants to set up. The filter and halogen lighting runs off the same low-voltage power source and only requires one wall plug. The lid contains the lighting and a hole for feeding. The simplicity makes this a great gift idea for kids as it eliminates most of the hassles you get from normal aquariums.

I have a baby biorb in silver. I really wanted the black one but opted for the silver because of the price difference. I’m disappointed that the black one, which is identical except for color; would have cost me $20 more than the silver. Anyway, I waited days for this to arrive, I was so excited but fedex didn’t update their tracking information and it arrived around 6pm. I hate fedex.

I opened the package and set it up according to the instructions.

Pros:

-lovely shape

-light

-filter

-bubbles for my betta to play in

cons:

-filter will be hard to change

-doesn’t come with enough ceramic media (rocks)

-no plants included

-slight buzzing sound from pump

-no color variety for ceramic media

I went to petsmart and bought a small plant ring, adding more than that would make for a very crowded aquarium. I’m going to buy more ceramic media for this soon. My betta is very happy, I’ve never seen her swim so much. I’ll get used to the sound of the pump and eventually it won’t bother me. I plan on moving into a new apartment and this will go in the living room or kitchen, right now it’s in my room. I’m contemplating painting the tops because they don’t make the piano black tops for the baby biorb. Maybe I’ll give this to my son one day and get myself a black one.

We bought the biorb from petsmart because it looked simple and modern (not to mention the good reviews). We started setting it up and found out that the air pump has to be placed above the waterline. This takes away from the streamline feeling we were looking for. Are we supposed to nail the air pump to wall? I tried to find pictures of other biorbs and it didn’t look like anyone followed this rule. I was annoyed and returned it the next day, dissatisfied.

I rec’d this for Christmas, 7 months ago. I love it. Some things to keep in mind, it is NOT meant for goldfish. Period. Don’t try it. They are messy, they get too big. I recommend getting a platy or two, I have two. Very fun, very colorful. Or try a beta. Or a few minnows. I couldn’t find the filters so I bought a big filter sheet at the pet store and I cut it to fit, very easy to do. And cheap. The sheet was around $7 and you can get 15-20 filters out of it. I change it every month and dump all the water, wash out the bowl and replace with treated, room temp. water every other month. Again, easy to do, takes 15 minutes at the most. There are a lot of wires and a big pump and air tubes that they don’t show in the picture. I put it on my counter in the corner and hid all that stuff behind it, the one part vibrates loudly against hard surfaces so I set it on top of a pot holder and shoved the tank back towards the wall and it hides all of it. It is completely quiet. I would highly recommend this tank. It is very unusual looking and people always comment on how cool it looks, especially with the light on. The bubble tube in the middle is very pretty, the accessories are fun and well made.
