I have recently found the importance of getting plenty of water in your daily routine is underrated.

My fingernails, my hair and skin all look and feel so much better when I am consistently hydrated.

The benefits to drinking water are so numerous and extreme it just doesn’t make sense to not drink water throughout the day.

Forget any myths you have heard in regards to ‘you shouldn’t drink too much water it isn’t good for you’. There are literally hundreds of benefits to drinking water but the three benefits that I find most crucial are:

Water fills you up. Water makes you feel full so you will eat less. Drinking water consistently through the day will greatly lower how often you snack.

Water flushes toxins and bad bacteria out of your body. You feel refreshed and cleaner when you keep up your water intake. There are some opinions that increased water intake also helps your immune system fight off infections.

Drinking water can increase your metabolism. Who doesn’t want a faster metabolism?

Basically I try to always have a water bottle near me and I sip all day long. Gulping water may not be bad for you but it is definitely not what I prefer.

Making the choice to workout, and get in shape is never easy.

However, purchasing exercise equipment can be the jump start you need to get your workout going.

After all, equipment is usually a large investment, which you will want to take full advantage of.

The biggest problem most people encounter when purchasing exercise equipment is the large number of items to choose from.

Most department stores offer at least five types of equipment, and shopping on the Internet will reveal that the possibilities are limitless.

So which type of exercise equipment should you choose? The truth is that it really comes down to a matter of personal choice.

However, many people today are choosing elliptical machines because of the many benefits they offer. Consider the following five reasons that an elliptical trainer may be the perfect choice for your workout.

Benefit One: Avoid the Painful Impact

Unlike stair steppers or treadmills an elliptical machine offers an impact free workout. For people who suffer from back or knee pain this can be very beneficial.

Elliptical training machines are much easier to work out on, and they do not cause you to suffer with the same amount of soreness traditional exercise machine causes. People who are elderly will also find that a low impact workout is much easier and safer.

Benefit Two: Lasting Caloric Burn

When working out on an elliptical exercise machine you will find that the number of calories burnt in a single workout is much more than with traditional exercise equipment. Using resistance bands will allow your body to burn calories for hours after you have finished your routine.

Benefit Three: Time Saving Routines

The design of an elliptical workout machine allows you to workout faster and quicker than if you were to use several pieces of equipment. A single machine can allow you to complete a whole body routine without ever having to change the equipment around or switch machines.

In addition to saving time, you will find that you feel like you have not exerted as much effort when working out on an elliptical machine. Most people feel that they have had an easier workout when using elliptical appliances. This is a definite benefit if you are looking for an intensive workout that feels like an easy regimen.

Benefit Four: Avoid Boredom in Your Workout Routine

Most people feel that the process of working out is more like a daily chore, than a fun daily routine. However, an elliptical machine can help you avoid the boredom commonly associated with an exercise regimen.

Because an elliptical machine offers a large variety of exercises you will feel like your exercise routine offers a variety to choose from. When you look forward to working out, you will make more progress than if you are dreading the same old workout routine.

Benefit Five: Money Saving Options

If you have taken the time to price exercise equipment lately you know it can be very expensive. This is especially true if you are considering several pieces of equipment for your regimen.

However, an elliptical machine offers a large number of exercises for working out your entire body.

Instead of spending thousands on a fully equipped home gym, you can complete your entire workout with just one machine. Save money and get the workout you require with an elliptical machine.

Nature has packed a lot of goodness in that little nut (technically not a nut but a seed) known as the almond.

It is known to lower cholesterol, reduces body fats and has a host of nutrients including manganese, vitamin E, fiber, magnesium, copper, tryptophan, phosphorus, riboflavin and protein.

Almonds are one whole food that, though high in calories and in fat content, are seemingly conversely, good for health.

Like olives, almonds consist of monounsaturated fats which help in reducing the risk of heart disease and this is borne out by several studies.

Almonds also decrease the levels of LDL cholesterol which is the bad kind; the kind that blocks arteries. Also the presence of vitamin E in almonds and the antioxidant properties of this vitamin, it is proven to be beneficial for lowering risk of heart disease. The high concentration of manganese and presence of potassium in almonds also make them very good for the heart.

Almonds are good for combating diabetes because they have been known to reduce after meal spikes in blood sugar. It has also been observed that eating almonds with high glycemic index foods can lower the glycemic levels of the food and therefore control that rise in blood sugar after meals.

Eating almonds is seem to help with weight loss because they are a satisfying food, which can reduce total daily caloric intake of the individual whose craving to eat other things tends to lessen. The Monounsaturated fats contained in almonds are also what contribute to weight loss.

However you have to remember that almonds are still a high calorie food and must be eaten in moderation. Also the common practice of blanching almonds and eating them without the skin greatly reduces their beneficial properties, since the skin is also packed with fiber and antioxidants.

Almonds are best eaten with their skin on, raw, uncooked and unsalted. Typically almonds are fried and seasoned with unhealthy quantities of salt and other flavor enhancers, which substantially lower their health giving properties.

Also, almonds when heated (as they would be while frying or even roasting) tend to lose some of their nutritional value because the oil in them becomes unstable at high temperature and therefore less beneficial.

So the next time you feel the urge for a snack coming on, reach for some almonds. Make sure they are not the salted variety and you have a healthy nutritious snack which will probably cause you to eat a bit less for your next meal!

Have you ever been on the treadmill or elliptical or even out for a jog and thought “when will this ever end”?

Make yourself a mix CD or create a playlist for your iPod that will motivate you.

If you are into interval training fitness workouts then create a playlist that will have a medium tempo song followed by a few fast tempo and upbeat dance songs followed again by a medium tempo song. Create a playlist that will put you in a groove and energize you.

Whatever your generation, make sure to create some ‘oldies but goodies’ songs that you can’t help but to sing to.

Put on songs that you just have to dance to when the DJ plays them at a wedding reception. If you are a child of the 80s make sure to have some M.C. Hammer, Toni Basil “Hey Mickey”, the theme from “Rocky”, “We Will Rock You” by Queen and maybe some Beastie Boys or even “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns and Roses.

Whatever your musical tastes there are bound to be some songs that just get you up and moving and energized no matter what your energy level. Use this to your advantage and to the advantage of your workout!

Mediation is based around one concept: that the universe has a special energy and life force that affects the way every human lives their life and what they get out of it.

This basic inner spirituality is what effects our decisions, our bodies, and our thoughts and learning how to harvest it means learning how to correctly make decisions that bring contentment.

Essentially, the same is true of fitness mediation which takes these principles and applies them to the body. If you learn how to properly channel your inner energy then you will be able to get much more out of any simple workout routine.

It is hard to describe this inner energy, although mystics and saints have often described this inner contentment as spirituality, contentment, the inner self, an illusionary force, and the unconscious.

The idea however is that once you learn how to tap into this energy you will become one with the world around you and learn how to truly exist as a part of the universe in accord which will bring about positive effects that will change your life.

Most believers of the value of mediation believe that your mind prevents you from connecting with this inner self or unconscious state because logic does not accept the inner guidance. In other words, your conscious self is at battle with your unconscious state, until you learn how to channel it into a daily part of your life.

This can be explained also by looking at how many states of being are defined simply by their opposites.

For example, without a clear definition of warmth we would not be able to recognize cold or without evil we would not recognize good. In other words, the conscious and unconscious exist side by side to draw awareness to the state of energy.

The brain itself is actually an example of this concept as it is divided into two hemispheres, the left and right which perform separate functions for the body.

Most people are considered right or left brained based on if they are more spatial or non-spatial meaning that almost every human has a state of unrest in existence in their actual body!

Thus, it is easy to see how the answer to changing life and habits may be simply learning how to tap into the inner consciousness instead of always relaying on our brains to give us the correct answer.

By reprogramming one’s self and learning how to think in more holistic benefits every activity performed in life may have longer lasting positive results.

When keeping healthy using a fitness program most people do not take under consideration the risks of overstretching. The joint care does not seem to be necessary because the joint do not hurt unless they are severely damaged.

In time, the overstretching during the fitness exercises leads to elasticity and flexibility loss and decreases the ability to move.

The professional athletes suffer from very intense exercise routines. In the most common exercise types the greatest accent goes to the muscular mass and joints without balancing the entire body. This way the risk of injury can be prevented with the help of the right exercises and the proper nutrients able to prevent the overstretching of the joints.

Arthritis can be caused by the lack of joint care. Those suffering from this disease consider that the only remedy is the medical treatment.

Glucosamine is an integrating part of the normal cartilage offering protection to the joints. It is a natural substance found in the seashells and it can be bought under the name of Glucosamine chloride and Glucosamine phosphate both natural and synthetic. As the organism absorbs the Glucosamine very easily, it is considered a valuable solution for joint care and keeping healthy while exercising.

It was established that the Glucosamine administration has very few adverse effects. For the diabetes patients and the persons experiencing osteoarthritis it is recommended to ask for a doctor’s advise prior taking this supplement.

The patients allergic to crustaceous are also recommended to ask for a doctor’s advice and those on a certain permanent medication are not recommended to give up the regular treatment while taking this supplement.

After a careful examination the Glucosamine seems the logical solution for the prevention and treatment of joint injury. It is nice to know such a remedy is at hand and can prevent unpleasant fitness accidents for a person who likes to exercise.

By now is it is a well known fitness fact that six smaller, more frequent meals are better than three big meals during the day.

Earlier the accent was on eating during meals and not snacking in between; now however, nutritionists and fitness experts have come down heavily in favor of the six small meals (or three meals and three healthy snacks depending upon how you look at it) as being good for health and for weight loss is that is one’s aim.

The converse view is that all that matters is how many calories you are eating at the end of the day; not in how many meals or snacks. However there are several arguments in favor of the 6 meal theory.

What this eating pattern does is it speeds up your metabolism helping you burn more calories than you would otherwise have done. The body is given the impression of plenty, giving it the signal that there is no need to store and horde calories in the form of fat rather that there are enough calories available for all the body’s needs. This is what keeps the metabolic rate up.

Also if you are dividing your daily intake of calories into 6 or more meals a day that means that you are taking in smaller portions at every meal. Cutting down on meal portions has repeatedly shown itself to be an effective weight loss gambit.

For many it is important to have that sit down meal rather than six or eight snacks. For these people they may continue to have three substantial meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner but also intersperse those with a mid morning snack, a snack late in the afternoon and perhaps a post dinner snack as well.

What this does is it helps a person not to get too hungry between meals. In particular the gap between lunch and dinner can get very long if a person has a big commute. Further when you do sit down to your meal, it will consequently be a smaller one; portions are likely to be smaller since you are not going to be starving.

Things to make sure when you have to take six meals are:

Make sure the meal portions are small not more than 500 calories

Make sure your snacks are healthy and low calorie not more than 100 calories

If you can do this, then 6 meals may well work really well for you!

The health and fitness conscious among us may assuage this yearning by reaching for a light beer, and it would be an erroneous assumption that a light beer is also necessarily light in calories; some light beers are no such thing!

The term ‘Light Beer’ can often is misleading especially since you can get the same number of calories from some of the regular draught beers as you may from the light ones. And why stop at the beer?

Take a look at some of the other beverages you may happily be downing with nary a thought for the calories you are ingesting. Consider all of these beverages and how they may help to pack on the pounds or stubbornly refuse to let you shed them:

Your daily latte or coffee drinks can be where a lot of the calories lurk

All alcoholic drinks have some of the highest caloric value of all edible things, some more even than pure fat

Cocktails are another seemingly innocent place where calories lurk, they often have sweetened juices, colas or other sugary concoctions added to them

That sweetened sodas are calorie laden is a no brainer

Even fruit juices are often sugar laden even when marketed under the ‘healthy’ banner

It is a satisfying feeling to sweat during and after a workout; it makes you feel like you did a nice calorie burning, thorough work out.

However it is a misconception that the more you sweat the better your work out. In fact experts say that is not a good idea to induce heavy sweating, which could have detrimental effects on health.

Sweating and the amount you sweat depend upon a variety of factors, external as well as internal. Sweat does indicate that you had a good work out, but more sweat does not necessarily mean a better work out of more calories expended. There are other factors at play:

The climate: Obviously the hotter it is the more you will sweat. So you will sweat more in summer than in winter. Does that mean you burn more calories in summer than winter? Not quite!

Your fitness levels and all other things being equal, you will burn the same amount of calories in winter as in summer doing the same exercises even if you do sweat more in summer. So in that sense, sweat does not ‘melt’ the fat away from your body. It is however possible that you may lose a few more calories if your body temperature is more elevated.

The Kind of exercise: If you are on a stationary bike indoors, you will probably sweat more than if you were outside on an actual bicycle with the wind in your face and the air cooling your body.

However merely the emergence of more sweat on the stationary bike is not an indication that you are getting a better work out. Yes you may get a better work out if you increase the resistance of the stationary bike or its difficulty level, but sweat is not the indicator.

Similarly jogging on a tread mill may make you sweatier than jogging outside in the cool air, but that does not mean you get a better work out simply by being on a treadmill. [treadmill exercise]

You may lose more water not more fat: If you are sweating more during a work out and find that this helped you lose some weight as against a similar work out which did not have to sweating as much, then you have to understand that that weight loss was from water lost during the workout. It was not more fat burnt, but more water lost, which is not necessarily a good thing.
