A row of such boulders marks the highest level reached by ice in the vicinity of Glacier Point. They are the sole remnants of a very ancient moraine, the rest of which has long since disappeared, and they are believed to record a stage of glaciation that antedated the El Portal stage. The boulder shown here was angular when deposited by the ice and has become round by long- continued exfoliation. Yosemite National Park, California (Plate 38-B, U.S. Geological Survey, Professional paper 160, 1913)

THE VACANT LOT NEXT TO 2303 EAST 63RD STREET HAS BECOME AN...

THE VACANT LOT NEXT TO 2303 EAST 63RD STREET HAS BECOME AN UNSIGHTLY DUMPING GROUND, 06/1973 (DOCUMERICA: The Environmental Protection Agency’s Program to Photographically Document Subjects of Environmental Concern, compiled 1972 - 1977)

Erratics, Garnet Ridge, Apache County, Arizona, Canyon de Chelly...

Erratics, Garnet Ridge, Apache County, Arizona, Canyon de Chelly quadrangle. (August, 1914)

untitled1010140943 (Tree of heaven) Southern Illinois University...

untitled1010140943 (Tree of heaven) Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Ginger Stricklin)

Erratic near Lake Willamette, deposited by glacial(?) flood.

17th century, Japan. ”This karaori (brocade kimono) is a costume for the Noh theater and bears a design of paulownias and phoenixes woven with white, pale blue, leaf green, blue-gray, navy blue, yellow, and scarlet brocade threadson bluish green ground material. The basic pattern of 4 paulownias and 2 phoenixes is mirrored to create the composition pattern and this is then repeated. The grand scale of the paulownias and phoenixes adds to the powerful aura of this work.
