Stay Fit While Having Fun in the Pool at Fitzhugh Urban Flats

Try some of these exercises while you are having fun in the pool in your Dallas community.

The pool in the Fitzhugh Urban Flats community is opening up Memorial Day weekend. It’s never too late to get fit; and now that summer time is here, I know that many of you are looking for any and every way to get fit and ready for your summer vacation. A great way to get fit while enjoying the pool in your Dallas apartment is to do some easy exercises. Check out these pool exercises you can do to get beach ready while enjoying a refreshing dip in the pool.

Facing pool wall in chest-deep water, hold on to edge of pool deck with left hand and place right palm fingers pointing down, against wall just below water for stability.

Hugging beach ball to chest, float on back, legs extended, feet together. Roll toward left and over top of ball (like an otter spinning in the water), using entire body — shoulders, back, core, legs — to make a full revolution, returning to start. Take a breath. (Beginners can rock from side to side with head above water throughout.)

Holding beach ball with arms stretched straight in front of you, float facedown in chest-deep water so legs are extended behind you, feet together. Keeping arms straight, pull ball underneath you, drawing it as fast as you can through water toward thighs in an arc. (As the ball is pressed underneath, it will lift you out of water to take a breath; beginners can keep head above water throughout.)

These are some great exercises to do that you can actually enjoy. You don’t even have to break a sweat while getting beach ready with these exercises. Grab your swimsuit and head out to the pool for a fun workout this Memorial Day weekend.

Don't let the heat tire your dog when you want to have fun. Use these tips to prevent dehydration when you go outdoors.

Now that spring is here, you can take your dog for longer walks, trips to their favorite dog park and outings. Well, as you prepare to take Fido for an afternoon of fun in the sun, you should be aware of the signs of dehydration. Since they can’t talk, it can be hard to notice when your dog needs a rest. Check out these safety tips for your dog to prevent dehydration.

If your dog is outside on a hot day, make sure he has a shady spot to rest in. Doghouses are not good shelter during the summer as they can trap heat. You may want to fill a child’s wading pool with fresh water for your dog to cool off in.

Never leave your dog in a closed vehicle on a hot day. The temperature inside a car can rise to over 100 degrees in a matter of minutes.

Always provide plenty of cool, fresh water.

Avoid strenuous exercise on extremely hot days. Take walks in the early mornings or evenings, when the sun’s heat is less intense.

Try to avoid prolonged exposure to hot asphalt or sand, which can burn your dog’s paws.

Keep small items in containers. Corralling like things together in bins, baskets, or boxes is a sure way to minimize chaos.

To keep your closets functioning optimally, re-examine them every six months. If the types of items you’re storing have changed, rearrange the shelves, rods, and bins.

Your utility closet will be much neater and easier to navigate if you keep long-handled brooms and mops off the floor.

The key to a well-organized home office is to manage paperwork. Considering the volume of mail that can accumulate on any given day, one in-box might not do the trick. Try a system of four in-boxes: for personal correspondence, bills, catalogs, and papers to file.

Since the farmers markets in Dallas are opening and many of you are thinking about those fruits and vegetables that are nice and ripe this time of the year, we thought this would be a perfect time to encourage shopping at farmers markets versus your local grocery stores. It’s time to party! May is coming up and the popular Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo, is going to be celebrated throughout the nation. You don’t have to be of Mexican descent in order to celebrate. In fact, you could even use your one or two bedroom apartment in Dallas to host a Cinco de Mayo party. Hosting a party will be easier than worrying about huge crowds and long waits, so check out these tips for a successful Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Have plenty of Mexican beer and margaritas on hand to quench your guests’ thirst and keep the party going. Choose fruit juice margaritas like strawberry, mango, raspberry or watermelon, or serve top shelf Cadillac margaritas with Cuervo 1800 and Grand Marnier. Also offer Mexican sodas or other soft drinks for non-alcoholic alternatives.

Plan to have music and dancing as an important part of your party entertainment.

Turn margarita glasses into themed snack dishes. For a fun centerpiece, fill a large margarita glass with colorful glass stones, and stick in several Mexican flags.
