Is it acceptable etiquette in this day and age to return missed calls from unknown numbers asking if someone called them from that number?

In my not very humble opinion, I consider it rude and class-less. I am always appalled at the Retirement Home when I answer the phone to hear “Did you just call me?” I always tell them that if someone wants to get a hold of them they will call back thankyouverymuch and hang up on them. I mean, I’m always kind and nice and all that jazz, but what I really want to do is tell that person to get over and bleepity-bleep themselves. 

If you feel the absolute NEED to find out who just called you, try doing it with a little bit of class: “Hello, this is ______ ________ at (555) 555-5555, I recently missed a call from this number and was wondering if someone needed to get a hold of me.”

Perhaps it won’t make the person on the other end of the conversation wanting to shout expletives at you.  Trust me, if someone wants to get a hold of you, they will.

/end rant.

(But on the other hand, maybe this is actually acceptable behaviour and I am just old and crotchety. Thoughts?)

I have Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures – basically, my MRI, CAT scan and ECG all came back completely normal and even though I do not have epilepsy, I still have seizures and they have no explanation for them. They think the seizures may be caused by stress, which I am relating to my move to Toronto next week.

But let’s talk about Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures for a minute. Long names tend to have acronyms, and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures is no exception.

So, what would that the acronym be?

PNES.

Okay, now say that out loud. Really, sound it out…

Pee. Nis.

Basically, I have PNES. Last week I had a PNES. Honestly, only me would get diagnosed with a disorder called PNES.

Hails attended her first Home County on Saturday. We were there for 5 hours and she did great. When we got there it was feeding time so we went to the nursing tent, and then stayed there to hide out of the rain. Then I put her in her stroller to take a nap, it took a bit for her to fall asleep but once she did she took about a 30 min nap, so not the greatest but good enough for being away from home. Then she played, got passed around to people, kissed a boy and was ready for more food, this time we just hung out in the shade of a tree and listened to the music as she fed. I waited until she got a bit fussy and took it as a sign that she was sick of being there, so we headed home and she had a nice nap on the way home. I love how much she has changed, that would not have been possible a month or 2 ago.

On Sunday we went to a cottage and again she was so great. She had her feet in Lake Huron for the first time, it was chilly! Also she took a nap in one of the bedrooms, I swaddled her up and left, I checked on her a few minutes later and she was out. She took an hour nap and was ready for some more fun.

On Monday (the 19th) Hailey tried rice cereal for the first time. I think she actually ate most of what I put in her mouth, but it was hard to tell, there was a lot dripping down her chin. Her face at first was so funny, it was like she was thinking ugh what is this stuff, what is she trying to do to me, yet she kept opening her mouth for more. I made it pretty runny, so I’m going to gradually start making it thicker and see how she does. We are going to start with it once a day in the morning about 30 min after her morning milk. So far she isn’t really a fan so we might be changing tactics soon (I added banana’s on Thursday and she liked it a bit better). I’m getting excited to let her try food finally. Hailey also still nurses 4 times a day and get a big ole bottle of bmilk before bed.

Hailey is now a sitting up pro! She hardly ever falls back anymore, mostly just does head plants because she sees something she wants in front of her, but it is too far away for her to get it. That’s her new favourite thing, go face first at an object. She also sucks her bottom lip constantly. She looks like a little old lady when she does it, it’s adorable. And drooling, holy drools batman. I guess she takes after me because apparently I was a drooly baby, but wow her shirt is always covered with drool.

Some point form notes:

• She still naps a lot during the day. Probably about 4 naps and normally at least one is 1.5 hours, the rest are about 40-60 min.  She sleeps through the night going to bed at 8pm and wakes up at about 7:30am or 8am
• All I need to do is look at her and smile and she smiles back, it makes me so happy every time she does it.
• She gets VERY excited about things these days, cats are her absolute favourite, she wiggles and gasps in air when they come near, it’s adorable.
• She loves to smile at people, but also still has freak out moments if she has just woke up or is tired and people get in her face, she’s not a fan of that.
• She weighs 17lbs 14oz and didn’t grow in length (but I think they measured her wrong)
• Hailey took her 6 month needles really well, she was so tired after a long wait in the waiting room but only cried for a brief second after them and even smiled for someone in the office after that, what a champ!

So that’s Hailey at 6 months! I’m excited to see what the next 6 months have in store for us. It’s probably time to start baby proofing soon.

Hailey loves to rub her feet together, quickly kicking her socks off, and loves pulling at her socks, but if I have her Sock Ons on she can’t get her socks off. They outsmarted the babies.

Sock Ons are hard to find, they were invented in the UK and are in stores over there, but are harder to find in Canada. Hailey’s pair were bought at a baby store in Toronto, but you can order them online from a bunch of different retailers. I contacted Sock Ons and asked if they would provide a set of Sock Ons to our readers and they agreed!
