My Favorite Photograph from My Sister’s Wedding

Today I’ve been updating / organizing our photography catalogs in Lightroom 4. I came across the images from my sisters wedding and the day after the wedding shoot. We were not Courtney and Jason’s *official* wedding photographers but I could not help snapping photos while at the ceremony (from my seat as I was not going to get in the way of the resort photographer).

This photograph from their wedding is definitely my favorite. I can’t help but laugh at the expressions! The image is a reminder to me that not every wedding photograph needs to be the kind of photo that you would see in a magazine or featured on a wedding blog. I bet if Courtney and Jason see this, it would trigger a fond memory of that pretty awesome wedding kiss that I don’t think Court really expected!

Show off Your Wedding Photography on Facebook’s Timeline

[pinterest float="left"]I stumbled onto my sisters Facebook page today to leave a comment and found one of our photos as their timeline image. Their wedding photography was shot in Cancun, Mexico and we found some really out of the box locations. I always saw this image as Courtney and Jason looking out at the possibilities of their future.

Right now, I’m not sure how Facebook is dealing with the Timeline images because they don’t seem to be optimized too well. We hope that Facebook soon ups the quality of the timeline images so that they don’t appear as pixelated. Either way, it helps create an awesome impact when people fall on their profile page.

We just want you to show off your Wedding Photography instead of leaving it on a disc or in a shoebox

Website Construction and Filtering

We thought we’d make a quick note to anyone finding us: We’re doing work on the site and filtering the content out slowly too. Right now you see some architecture photography / real estate photography work and we’re working on filtering that out to a separate website and domain. We want this website to be concentrated on portrait, wedding, engagement, and children photography. Essentially, we want this to be for people photography. As much as we want to show off everything, it really fragments the site and how we can help you find what you’re looking for best. We’re also trying our best to get up all of our portfolios to help you better decide if we’re a good fit for you too. Our focus on these updates are gaining importance with more and more inquiries coming in about wedding photography.

We don’t expect the actual design to change here until later into February, but we still wanted to give a heads up on that so it’s not to come as a shock

Let us know if you have any questions about us being your photographers in the coming future. We’d love to hear from you!

The Big Number One!

The first birthday is a big one, even though the only one that has no idea what’s going on is the birthday boy. This is precisely why photography is so important - as we paint our own canvas in life, we might not remember all the strokes of the brush. Capturing and documenting our life’s progress let’s us look back and see the creative journey we’ve been on since entering this earthly world. It’s not often you’ll get to rock out cake icing as your beard and explore the feeling of icing oozing from between your fingers.

I heard a wise statistic recently that talked about the importance of the Birthday. It’s known that the more Birthdays you have, the longer you’ll live.

That said, Bithdays are very good for everyone. The photo below of Mr. C (our super cool Nephew) is guaranteed to make you smile and make your heart expand at least 3x as big as before you saw it

We’ll be sharing more images at some point – there were a couple other little dudes showing off for the camera too.

Heather and Marc’s Wedding Day in 3 Minutes

We’re so thankful that we were able to be apart of Heather & Marc’s wedding day. As we go on this journey, we are learning so much and hope that the images are up to their standard.

I have been so grateful for their awesome wedding planning and prep because it is amazing how it can really help inspire us as we shoot photography. If Marika and I were getting married again, we’d probably be asking Heather & Marc for advice on wedding ideas and decor.

We’ll be sharing the images here in the blog within another post or 2, but the video is one of the coolest ways to watch this and get a grasp of the entire wedding day in 3 minutes. Make sure you leave a Congrats for this super rad couple!

Frisbee with Harlow

You couldn’t call us pet photographers. We like to think of ourselves as lifestyle portraiture photographers and get more of what would connect people with their family. Yeah, pets are just as much family in our world today. A lot of the discussion around the shoot was regarding the awesomeness of pets in our lives. With a dog like Harlow, full of energy, we had a good time and loved to meet him while catching up with Sarah and Josh.

The teaser image from the recent shoot works in multiple ways because we got some awesome action images, but we also got to hear that Harlow was all tired out so that Josh and Sarah could watch TV in peace that night.

There are some really great shots from this short shoot, but we definitely want to run them by Sarah and Josh before sharing them. Personally, I think some of the images sum up what it’s like to have a loveable dog in your life.

Engagement Teaser from Port Stanley with Rosie and Jeff

Choosing a teaser shot from Rosie and Jeff’s engagement photography session in Port Stanley was not easy. Why? Because I wanted to show a bunch! We wandered all over the area, got ice cream, attacked seagulls, and checked out the beach. You can imagine there are are lot of awesome and different scenes then.

We were nearing the end of the engagement photography session here and got some amazing images (maybe the best of the shoot) right after this location. I’m not posting the rest of the images in the immediate future but stay tuned and subscribe to see more in the future. Congrats again guys!

c5 Restaurant with Elena and Steve

Long overdue and with less than a month before their wedding, we wanted to share some images from Elena and Steve’s engagement photography session in Toronto. Like the engagement photos for Heather and Mark, we prefer to do things over a series of posts instead of just throwing a mass of photos at you. Going about our photo sessions with people like this allows us to talk about events more, share the photos, and give you something to return to. We’ll only share a few photos in this post, the first being one that was shot at the c5 restaurant located within the Crystal ROM addition – a place I’ve always been obsessed with since it was finished. It was a nice break from photography in London, Ontario but it was nice to get home too.

The food at c5 was interesting and very artistic. The wine was outstanding. When in Toronto again sometime, I definitely want to go here again – even for just drinks in their bar / lounge area.

Elena, Steve, and Marika all enjoyed the Asparagus Salad.

For the main course, surprisingly we all went for the Fried Chicken and we were in for a treat! Seriously, this chicken was outstanding. It looked awesome too; however, I held off pulling out my iPhone to snap shots. Next time, the camera stays out and the iPhone is welcomed

c5 Engagement Photos

I admit that it could be a bit awkward doing engagement photos with in a restaurant like c5. With the engagement photography, the purpose is to get a couple to become less lens aware prior to the wedding day. This should allow for more comfortable wedding photography of course. Luckily the c5 restaurant wasn’t too busy at this point, but there were some spectators and we didn’t stick around for a full shoot here. That said, this could easily be a location where a couple could have an entire session shot here. There was a lot going on within the restaurant, lounge, and bar. The lighting was great in pretty much all areas. I would think some additional lighting, one light, would be great for some other areas and give some creative flexibility too.

Remember, this day brought temperatures of 43 degrees (Celsius) – the hottest day of the summer for sure! We could have stayed in c5 just to stay out of the heat. This is something we’ll think about in our future engagement sessions if it’s this kind of heat again. Still, the photos inside c5 and then outside around the core were awesome. We loved meeting and hanging out with Elena and Steve for the afternoon (not just a strict 1 hour session). It was great to learn about them, learn about the things going on leading up to the wedding, plans, learning Steves pug and more. To say were excited for the wedding day is an understatement. We get to go back to Toronto and feel the action of the big city again!

A Quick Congratulations to Heather and Marc

We got home from one really cool wedding late last night. We wanted to just stay taking photographs all night, but we were just out of power. Everything about this wedding was really well planned out and thought out. We were blown away but the little details and you could feel the union of the families and friends. We couldn’t have been more fortunate to be the wedding photographers for such a day.

After our wedding, we thought it would have been amazing to have at least one image to update the Facebook profile with as soon as possible. Even if the image isn’t used, we’re scratching our own itch to provide something special like this.

On the day, I was worried we weren’t catching enough of everything but I realize now that I was just being my overachieving self. Once I downloaded the images from the memory cards, I realized that we rocked it. Heather and Marc looked amazing! The wedding set up was greatly documented and I caught a really amazing photograph of Heather’s 97 year old Grandfather.

Congrats again to Heather and Marc!

You’re Engaged and Loving It (P3)

This is our final part in the engagement photography series with Heather, Marc, and Rusty. These images from their engagement shoot are some of our favorites because the light was perfect, everyone was having a good time, and there is just a lot of connection happening with Marc and Heather.

The wedding is coming up fast and this is going to be an awesome one. We love hearing about the plans, but we don’t want to spoil anything! We’re going to have a lot of fun, get amazing photographs, and document 2 awesome people on one of the greatest days of their lives. We can’t wait and we’ll be giving our 1000%!!!
