Gym tonight. Student night it is too, and I’ve knackered my ankle skating at the wkend, so I’m basically going for a decent stretch and the social element. Will take me camera and document something – I fancy capturing some audio (yes ‘audio’) tonight. I have an idea y’see.

I want to mention that I recently returned to the gym after a 4months off. Off for the reason of? The sun came out. Enabling me to get some vitamin D, a t-shirt tan and work on my vert skating. All the while, I knew I was getting out of sync with the physical act of flipping. I knew it would only be a temporary thing. Sooner or later the weather would turn and I’d be back in the gym enjoying the trampoline week after week again.

Whilst being absent, visitors here will have noticed that I haven’t kept up with this place much at all. This has been a good thing. The excitement has disappeared with Tricking and free running etc, I’m certainly not tracking so many videos either. Though I had noticed something had changed with my Google RSS feeds, meaning that I haven’t been able to access anywhere up to around 500 videos a day as much as I have in the past. A blessing in diguise methinks?

‘Life’ and all its buckets of joy have over taken me too. Again, this is a good thing, change is great, but I’m settling back into a rhythm once more, and hope to be finally set in the closing months of this year.

During this time away I’ve reflected how much I’ve hurt my body more in the past few years flipping about, than 25 yrs of skateboarding. So much for skating being dangerous. All that gym foam and peer pressure is contageous, addictive and more dangerous.

My left shoulder slops around in its socket, I can only sleep at night with my left knee bent, and I swear my neck has never been good since I landed on it- several times.

So what next? What for this place? Well, as I say, I’ll be back at the gym again in the wetter months as soon as they arrive, but i’ll be focusing on interesting thoughts that strike me as and when they happen. I’m not going to chase people for footage, killer photos, or go out of my way to attend gatherings and newly discovered web content.

I might change the format here a bit tho, keep my eyes opening for different perspectives and invite some people to contribute if they wish. Who knows? I certainly don’t.

Oh and after 4 months break, everything aches again… and damn it feels good :)

Aaaaaand you thought I’d gone for good. Nope, I’ve actually been hanging out in a Mexican prison for several months after a trip abroad resulted in a mix up in luggage with a Columbian cocaine dealer – anyways, its all sorted now, so no biggie.

I’ve just renewed this ‘custom css’ for the blog for another year. Which kinda means that I’ll be sticking about for a bit longer – though the format here will start to change. I’ve got bored of posting lots of videos up that other people have created. I want to write more stuff about observations in sport and peoples progression and trends etc. I’ll still post the occasional video etc, but I don’t want this place to primarily be about that.

I’m also not going to make an effort to write here regularly. If it happens, it happens, I’m not looking to chase a popularity contest any more.

Lets just see what happens – umkay?

As I picked myself up off the dirt, dusted myself off and looked up, I caught a glimpse of a trendy girl no more than 15 watching me. Her mouth was open and eyes gaunt, like she’d just been punched in the stomach with a duck mallet. I don’t think she was prepared for what she just witnessed. I get that a lot and carried on. A few minutes later, the same happened again and I was picking myself up off the ground once more. I didn’t make eye contact this time, but I knew I was being watched. Eventually, compelled, she spoke as I walked towards her direction to go up the steps once more.

“How long have you been doing that?”
“About 20mins”
“No I mean in years”
I thought for a second whilst continuing up the steps “about 2/100,000ths of a year”
I got a blank look out of that impressive slice of quick thinking on my part, and she knew I was joking around, but didn’t a) show any sign of humour, and b) give up questioning.
“No, when did you start?”
So much within me wanted to say ‘about 1 o’clock’, but thought I should stop. Someone very intelligent once told me, ‘a joke is only funny if people laugh’. So I gave in, and gave out the answer she wasn’t expecting…
“only 28 years”

Now bear in mind she was early teens, anything longer than 2 (days? months? years?) is commitment to her, and also bear in mind that her already opened mouth was either taking in oxygen, expelling oxygen, or devoid of any life sustaining activity. My ‘28′ left my mouth, floated across the park, entered her ear canals, triggered off a few million neurological connections and, whichever way you look at it, made all her internal organs in her stomach and chest contract so tightly that she physically ‘deflated’ into a heap of shattered bones and flesh wrapped in Primark Summer Sales items.

Oh and she mouthed to her mates my word ‘only’ in full HD quality 120fps slomo.

And there we have it. Another brain fried, soul destroyed, understanding of time hacked to pieces and a belief in dedication truely exposed.

People who have yet to dedicate an immense amount of time to something, or perhaps haven’t had the upbringing that instilled ‘patience, persistence and longevity’ into them from a young age, very often can’t comprehend how long it takes to learn a new skill.

They may witness you for a brief moment in their lives, either in passing or at an event or competition, and to them its ‘new’. New in their life, and their world of observation. A lot of people spend their whole lives trying to stay upright, on 2 feet and avoid hospitals and causes of concern from family and friends.

We’re not all like that. Thank god.
