KreativeThemes is a collaboration works of seven young people, to provide you with high-quality premium and free WordPress theme. The people behind KreativeThemes are Izuddin Helmi and Amirul Faisyal as the co-founders - doing the boring stuff; Ajmal Eylia, Mohd Huzairy (Bat), Mior Muhammad Zaki, Nur Fatihah (Fath) and me as the cool people. Haha

I went to KL on the weekend, mainly to have a meet-up with these guys before the official launching. That was my first time meeting them, except for Izuddin Helmi (I used to stumbled into him at Puduraya last few months).  It is so different to be able to talk to people with the same interest, without having to explain so much on the terms and stuff. Not that I hate to explain, though. Haha

Although there was some technical issues here and there, and we had to sit on the floor in front of the elevator, we managed to launch it to the audience.

I am very excited. I worked so hard on two of the themes, Furvious (designed and coded by me) and my favorite, Phanatics (designed by Izuddin Helmi, coded by me). It is good to finally make them available online. Check them out! There are more to come from KreativeThemes soon! We are still new, do support us, and send some feedback too.

It was a special trip for me - because all the people I met are the people I met online. I even stayed at Bat’s house, and I haven’t even met him before. Thanks Bat! Later that night, we hanged out with Ajmal, Wafiq and MK up to 3am. Great guys.

I have been undergoing my internship programme for almost 5 months now, at Intel Penang. I don’t know about my other friends here, but I’m a pretty happy with it. I mean, I’m enjoying (almost) the whole thing.

Lets talk a little bit about it.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to share the whole details and information (or photos) about what I have been doing, because I’m respecting the confidentiality of the company’s information. A big overall picture will do. Basically I am working in a development team that is working on some in-vehicle infotainment system. It is  a pretty new and small team - with some developers, one PM and one PCM, and me, as the only one intern (and Malay) in the team.

At first, it was really uncomfortable to be around all the strangers. Everybody is busy with their work. I felt pretty bad. Unlike my other friends, I don’t have any cubicle - but my permanent place is in the lab. Not like those high school science lab though -  a development lab, with the computers, test system and stuff.

But the learning process is the one that helped me to get along with the team. And I started to enjoy the environment. My SV is the PM, so he is very busy with a lot of different stuff (and he is a very nice funny guy too!). So, most of the time, I have to be very independent - which is something I like, apparently. But he did assign people from the team to guide me through some basic stuff.

The toughest part was to get familiar with all the terms and acronym they used in the documents, emails and conversations. I didn’t expect them to explain to me one by one, but after quite some time, I started to get used to the terms and environment.

Experience.

Although I am just an intern, I am really glad that I am involved in (almost) everything. Project planning, all the project meetings, staff meetings, technical sharing, workshops - everything. I don’t know why, but I really like to go to the meetings. They are kinda fun, main because, they are not really conducted in a very formal way. It is a relax environment - people make jokes all the time. But the main reason I like them, is because of the insights and information I can get from the meeting - it is great to be able to observe how these guys thinks, make arguments and stuff.

Even if I’m listed as an optional attendee for certain technical sharing and workshop among the developers, I always joined them. This is the time where the developers share their high-level ideas and detail information for their planned development task. Sometimes, I have no idea what are they talking about - with all those weird and alien terms on the screen - but I like it. It is something not to be missed, because it is a great opportunity for me - and I’m probably not going to get this chance anymore - not in UTP anyway.

Plus, I have always wanted to know how exactly a product, in a form of a software, is developed in a team environment. The source control, project management, the bug fixing process, the testing and everything - up to the release, and the starting of the next releases. It is definitely a great experience for me.

What am I actually doing there?

Well, some stuff.

I’m not going to put everything in here - at least, not yet. There are still another 3 months to go. It is a great exposure for me - and I’m not going to take this for granted.

Plus, it is a great place to work - I can wear anything to work, I can keep my hair (!), I can go at anytime I want, I can have fun - as long as my works are not affected. And Friday is halfday!

I’m such a workaholic. I don’t want to go back to UTP.

Guides are those thin blue lines

As the name suggest, the Guides tool act as our guide - in terms of element positioning, layout arrangement and element sizing.

Starting up

During your design process, you can use unlimited number of guides (I suppose) to help you through. From the workspace, click and hold your pointer on the horizontal or vertical ruler on the left/top part of Fireworks. Then, drag it onto your working canvas. Now you have one guide. Yay!

Spaces in between

I normally use Guides to plan the width of my layout/elements; and the padding and margin between those elements. To do this, drag several Guides onto the canvas, and position them accordingly. To see the width/gap between each Guide, hover your mouse pointer on that area, and hold down the Shift key. Fireworks will show you the width and the height. Cool! Try to keep the Shift key down, and move your mouse pointer around.

Drag and display

You don’t want to keep on guessing the width/gap of certain part when you drag Guides onto your canvas. To avoid this, you can actually hold down Shift key while dragging your Guides horizontally or vertically. It will show you the width or height between those Guides, real-time.

Small pixel move

It was quite frustrating when you only want to move the line 1px to the left, but it is too small that it will move more than 1px further. I suffered that before - until one day I accidentally found out that there is a workaround. Double-click the Guides; a dialog box will appear with current location of the guide, based on the ruler. Vertical guide refers to the top ruler; horizontal line refers to the left ruler. Common sense, isn’t it? Now you just have to modify this current location value – either subtract 1px, or add 1px or any value.

Lock onto position

Since those Guides will be on top of your canvas, you might accidentally move it when you’re working, which is quite annoying. By locking the guides, this will not going to happen as I will not be able to moved. Great tip if you planned to build your custom grid system in Fireworks! Keyboard shortcuts: Cmd + Alt + ; (Mac) and Ctrl + Alt + ; (Win)

Hide/show the clutter

Sometimes when you had too much Guides on your canvas, it is going to be very messy – to a point where you cannot look at your design anymore! Not a problem. With Cmd + ; (Mac) or Ctrl + ; (Win), all the lines will be hidden from your view. The same shortcut will bring them back to live.. er, I mean, back onto the canvas. In fact, if you closed your Fireworks, to go out and get a life for a moment or two, the same guides will be preserved in your file (unlike Grid).

Those Guides will also be preserved if you send your source file to other people on different platform.

End of story

Personally, this Guide tool has been helping me a lot during my design phase in Fireworks - to be more precise with my layout arrangement and position, which going to help a lot through the coding phase, especially the CSS. The value for width, padding and margin has already being defined in Firework – just port them in to the CSS code.

Time saving in both design and coding phase. Awesome!

The main reason I wanted to come home is to grab the shirts that I ordered few weeks back. They arrived here one week after my order. That was really fast if you asked me. Normally I have to wait for 2 weeks minimum, for international orders.

Previously I never blogged about the shirts that I bought online - maybe because I wasn’t really satisfied with the products. Either the size is too small or big, or the material is not that good. So I’ll just keep them in the closet, or give them away, or just sell them to other people. One of my favourite was the one I wore in this post.

And here are the latest addition to my favourites:

Two of them are from Drop Dead Clothing and the other two are from Never In Wonderland. Figure it out yourself. Awesome stuff. All of the items fit me perfectly. Well, you know how skinny I am - so, its kinda difficult to find a really really suitable size. I am definitely going to order more from them.

Yeah, yeah - I know some of you might be judging me now, buying these kind of shirts with offensive or disturbing images - but I like them that way. Big detailed illustration. If I wanted to get some conceptual and simple design with just some text and brilliant quotes, I can just buy them from our local indie clothing label. </sarcasm>

It is almost 7 weeks since I’ve been in Penang for my industrial internship. So far, everything is going great. It is so good to live a different kind of life this semester - with no lectures, no test and exams, no staying up late trying to complete all those assignments and stuff. Although it is 8-to-6 kind of work here, it is kinda fun.

I don’t feel like writing and sharing all the stuff that I’ve been doing here so far - too lazy. But I have been keeping some daily shots from my crappy Nokia N70 2.0MP camera phone, and upload it into another place, somewhere on the internet - no text, just photos. Well, I have always consider myself writing blog just as a medium of MY future pleasure. So, maybe I’ll keep it to myself first.

I’m currently working on some thingx, only during my spare time (which is very short, by the way), with Izuddin Helmi on his new project. And because of this, I’m back with coding WordPress themes as well as a lot of new stuff to catch up. I have been playing things safe by just doing the basic part. I guess, it’s time to get into a much advance position. We’ll see later. I also have to pause my CodeIgniter exploration for some time to continue working on this. It’s pretty good that I finally able to understand those MVC thingy, and create a simple app - at least for now.

Oh another thing, I am pretty upset with my result for my last semester examination. Urgh. Screw that. I just wish I can stop worrying about this thing already. I want to finish study fast and start doing things that I’m really into. 4 years is long enough to keep on pretending. Screw everything. I’m tired of keeping scores.

p/s: I would love to release a full and free WP themes, like before, but with time constrain and internet connection limitation that I’m having at the moment, it is not the right time yet.

One thing most of the people don’t know is that I got into an accident on my way to Penang on 30th May. A pretty bad one. And I was hospitalized for few days due to minor injuries on my head that causes some memory loss; and on my face that make me less handsome than before.

Okay that last part was stupid.

Thank God I survived.

It is worst than what you can see.

It was raining - I kinda drifted, with 540 degree spin and such. The funny thing is, there was already another accident at that place. Yeah, I saw them during my drift action. The car was in a big drain on my left, and luckily I didn’t hit them but spinned to the right side. The two dudes from the earlier accident told me they were just there 15 minutes before me. Lucky for me they were there to help and such. Not that I said its good that they got into the accident though.

After a few calls and waitings and helps from other people, especially since Maxis has no coverage at all up the hills, my dad arrived with his friend at the scene - with a big smile on his face.

One dude laughed when he saw my father, tap my shoulder and said “Dude, you should respect and salute your father till the end of the world!” He said that because from his experience, most of the fathers will come with an angry face and lecture their child if they got into this kind of mess. haha I guess he’s right. My dad is so cool.

I was frustrated though. I have to wait for few weeks to repair and such, not to mentioned the money that will go into it. gahhh I hate not to have a car to move around.

There you go, an update, at last.

And now the internet is back to normal, I was like, gahhh, who need internet!

Yeah right.

End of the last 5 months

So the semester ended last Friday with unpredictably disappointing and extensively difficult Electrical Machine paper. Dude, this is the only subject I was hoping for an A+ since my coursework marks is pretty good. No more hope, I guess. It was tougher than that freaking DSP!

After a lot of curses and swears after that, my coursemates organized this little ‘Pre-Internship Get Together Gathering EE Jan 2006′. Yeah I made the name up. Anyhow, it was fun since we will not be seeing each other for the next 8 months of internship.

The next 8 months

So, I will be driving to Penang tomorrow morning. One of my soon-to-be housemate, Dehaq, is already there, alone. I just called him just now. Lol. Pity him. Fit a.k.a Melongray will be joining us this Sunday.

This is my first time driving to Penang, and I’m all alone with just a little guides. Lets hope I won’t get lost and ended up in Thailand haha.

New experience and surrounding with new people - that actually sounds interesting to me. I am going to be open to anything that comes and try to be as optimist as I can. This is growing up, man!
