The law is part of the Florida Energy Act and changes the types of filtering pool pumps and motors that can be installed on residential pools. (Pool specific portion)

Most pool pumps are currently single speed. This means that they run at one speed the entire time they are on. The new law requires that any new pool pump, 1 HP or larger, must either be 2-speed or have a variable speed motor. So, if you are in need of a new pool pump, or you need your motor replaced, you will have a few options. First, you can replace your motor with a new 2 speed motor or variable speed motor. Or second, you can replace the whole pump with either a 2 speed or variable speed pool pump.

The downside of the new law is that there is a considerable price difference between old single speed pumps and motors. Installation and purchases can be anywhere from $400-$900 more for the new pumps. HOWEVER, these new pumps will pay for themselves in as soon as 8 months. We are seeing customers save up to $60 a month on their energy bill. So, while the initial costs are more, the savings more than pay for itself within a year.

We will be unveiling new pool pumps in the coming weeks. We'll include reviews, specifications, and recommendations. Stay tuned.

More Information:
Energy Efficiency Requirement Flow Chart
Energy Law Q&A

New Permit Fees for City of Jacksonville.

Beginning July 1, 2011, there will be new and updated permit fees for wells drilled in Duval County. All wells will now have a permit fee and the increase in existing permit fees are substantial.

Previously, the only wells requiring a permit in Duval County were commercial and residential Floridian Aquifer (Artesian) wells. The rates for these wells were $90 for commercial use and $20 for residential use. After July 1st, 2011, the permit rates for Artesian wells are $300 for either commercial or residential. As you can see, this represents a substantial increase that must be accounted for when quoting a well.

The new fees also impact wells that previously did not require permit fees. These wells are shallow than Artesian wells. and consist mainly of your rock wells and shallow wells. The new permit fee for these wells in residential applications is $150. Commercial fees vary between either $150 or $175 depending on intended use.

There are more fees associated with a variety of other wells drilled in Duval County, but for the purpose of this article and scope of work for Florida Pump Service, we are only mentioning the commercial and residential fees.

For more information you can visit the well permitting page at City of Jacksonville online. The topic hit especially close to home for us at Florida Pump Service, because one of our service technicians has relatives living in Haiti at the time of the quack. Fortunately, he was able to make contact with them and they are all safe.

We at Florida Pump Service decided that we should help take up the cause and do a little bit to help those in Haiti. We recently ran a promotion to donate a portion of all our pump and tank sales to the Red Cross and have it marked for Haiti Relief. I am proud to say that at the end of the month of promotion, Florida Pump Service had raised $1,378.23. We hope this donation on behalf of the family at Florida Pump Service can help some families in Haiti.

Rain, Flooding, Drainage, and You

As those of you in Northeast Florida know, we are currently being pummeled by rain and there is no end in sight. It outlines just a few of the ongoing specials we have running and we hope to update it frequently with new specials and seasonal deals. You can find the page here.

The first part of the page details what we call the "internet specials". Most of our online products are tagged with this:

Products listed with this marking are usually deals we are trying through our website and sometimes they are lower than our over the counter prices. However, we will extend the discount to anyone who prints out the product page and brings it in at the time of purchase.

We also talk a little bit about our participation in the Jaguars Rewards Program. In this, we give a $30 discount, on all purchases over $100 excluding internet prices, for all customers who have a Jaguars Rewards card. The cards are free with the purchase of Jacksonville Jaguars' season tickets. You can find out more about the Jaguars including season ticket purchases and other companies participating in the rewards program at Jaguars.com.

Please check regularly as we plan on updating the page with new deals and specials as we release them.

Welcome to the Florida Pump Service blog

Welcome to the first ever Florida Pump Service blog.
