Winter Garden West Orange CB Roman Tatum and WR Vernon Marshall each added DI-AA offers a day before their 35-14 loss to Edgewater in this year’s spring game.

Tatum (5-10, 170) was offered by Wofford on Thursday. It was his first scholarship offer.

“It feels amazing,” Tatum said. “I’ve been waiting and waiting, and working and working, and I finally got my first offer. I don’t know too much about Wofford. They came out and watched me practice and said they’d be in touch.”

Marshall, who was offered by FAMU two weeks ago, got offer No. 2 from Bethune-Cookman on Thursday.

“I think they’re pretty good programs,” Marshall said. “Bethune, I don’t know much about them except for the (annual Florida) Classic. I’ve actually visited FAMU before and they have pretty good facilities.”

With offers from the rival schools, Marshall (6-2, 175) said this year’s Florida Classic will be a bit more interesting for him.

Marshall said he is also on the verge of picking up his first FBS offer.

“I’ve got to talk to the coach from Middle Tennessee,” Marshall said. “But I’m pretty sure he’s going to offer me too.”

There are a handful of intriguing matchups tonight as spring football begins to come to a close.

Many of the area’s top prospects will be facing off against one another, so here is a guide of what players/games to keep an eye on.

Jamboree - Orlando Olympia, Jacksonville Sandalwood, Orlando Evans at Evans, 6:30 p.m.

-Olympia (7-5 in 2011) – The Titans return a ton of star power from from a team that was close to advancing to the third round of the playoffs last year.

John Armstrong, RB, 2013, No. 24 on Sentinel’s Central Florida Super60 – The versatile scatback has the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Armstrong has more than enough speed to offset his diminutive stature (5-7, 160) and is getting looked at as a RB, slot WR and KR. The cousin of UCF WR Quincy McDuffie and Tennessee signee Alton Howard has offers from FIU, Cincinnati, Duke, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, East Carolina, Temple, Buffalo.

Shawn Curtis, OL, 2013, No. 26 – It seems like every school that stops by Olympia falls in love with Curtis (6-5, 265), who is a humble, hardworking left tackle with the ability to play across the line. He lacks brute strength, but is very mobile and uses his hands well. Offers include: USF, FIU, Buffalo, Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi St., North Carolina,South Alabama.

Ramar Dennis, DE/LB, 2013, No. 47 - Dennis (6-2, 225) made the switch from DE to LB this spring and the move has paid off. He’s a natural LB and that’s where he will play in college. Illinois, Syracuse and Cincinnati have offered, but South Alabama might be his leader right now.

Nathan Obinwa, DE/LB, 2013, NR – This Ivy League prospect is turning into a DI recruit, recently receiving offers from Northern Illinois and South Alabama. Obinwa (6-3, 22) will be playing defensive tackle this year for the Titans, but he’s a DE in college.

Alex Gomez, ATH, 2014 - Marshall offered the slot WR earlier this week. His ability to play all over the field is a plus.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 S Julian Grant (6-1, 210), 2015 RB Dexter Williams (5-11, 170), 2015 QB Deondre Francois.

_

Evans (10-2 in 2011) - The Trojans are arguably Orlando’s most talented team and could make a run at the state title in Chip Gierke’s second year as head coach.

Ro’Derrick Hoskins, LB, 2013, No. 8 – Big, quick and strong, Hoskins (6-2, 220) has tons of potential. He makes plays all over the field and might have more upside than anyone else in Central Florida. He committed to FSU this offseason.

Tony Stevens, WR, 2013, No. 11 – Another Florida State commit, Stevens made a name for himself last year by making highlight reel plays on a weekly basis. His height (6-3, 175) makes him an easy WR to target in the redzone.

Dominic Walker, WR, 2013, No. 12 – Walker (6-2, 185) is the second part of Evans’ 1-2 WR combo. He can stretch the field like Stevens, but is a little more polished on intermediate patterns. ‘Showtime’ is high on Vanderbilt but also has offers from FSU, UF and Miami.

Lever Robinson, QB, 2013, No. 38 – Before Gierke took over as Evans’ head coach last year, Robinson had little confidence. As the year went on, he began to believe in himself and developed into one of Central Florida’s most well-rounded QBs. Colorado State and Memphis have offered.

James Julius, CB, 2013, No. 41 – Boston College, South Alabama and Memphis have offered, and UCF is close. He’d likely have double-digit offers if he was a little taller (5-10, 170).

Other Prospects to Watch: 2013 RB Brandon English (5-8, 180), 2014 OL Deion James (6-3, 240), 2014 DL Traevon Sharp (6-5, 235).

Orlando Dr. Phillips at Cocoa, 7 p.m.

_

- Dr. Phillips (10-2) – The Panthers figure to have a ferocious defense in 2012, but must find a way to replace QB Nick Patti.

Marcell Harris, S, 2013, No. 3 - Considered by some to be the top S in the nation. Harris moves very well but keeps growing (6-1, 213) and could turn into a LB. His father played at UF and the Gators might be the front runner for his services.

Matt Milano, S, 2013, No. 28 – A physical, sure-tackling prospect that plays more like a LB than a S. Milano (6-1, 190) is very fluid and polished, but must show that he can cover in space this year to become a BCS-level prospect. Air Force has offered.

Eric Harrell, RB, 2013, No. 30 – Harrell isn’t a blazer or the biggest back around (5-10, 185), but he runs extremely hard and has great instincts. Kansas and FIU have offered.

Mowan Marshall, LB, 2013, No. 59 - He replaced Phillip Amone in the starting lineup mid-season after Amone went down with an injury and managed to record more than 100 tackles. Marshall (5-11, 200) flies to the ball and is a big-time hitter.

Other Players to Watch – 2013 WR/QB Denzell Hanna (6-1, 185), 2013 CB Reggie Glover (5-10, 180), 2013 OL/DL Victor Clavier (6-1, 250), 2013 LB/DL Larenz “Lucky” Ablot (6-3, 240), 2013 LB Jarius McMillan (5-11, 210), 2013 OL Harry Black (6-5, 225), 2013 OL Cody Kreuger (6-5, 295), 2o14 ATH Deointe Gaines (5-8, 160), 2014 RB Kerry Bernard (5-9, 180), 2013 ATH Isaiah Johnson (5-9, 180).

Orlando Timber Creek at DeLand, 7 p.m.

_

- Timber Creek (8-5 in 2011) – Can the Wolves repeat a magical 2011 season? A group of senior overachievers are gone, but Timber Creek might have more talent this year than ever before.

Jacques Patrick, RB, 2015 – The East River transfer ran for more than 1,000 yards as a freshman and has picked up some big time offers from schools like FSU, Florida, Miami, Auburn and UCF. His size (6-2, 200), speed and production might make him one of the nation’s top recruits in his class.

Keith White, CB, 2013, No. 43 – White (5-9, 170) is a typical Timber Creek recruit in that he lacks top measurables but is opportunistic and fundamentally sound. White is a very polished CB.

Other Prospects to Watch: 2013 ATH Jacob Allen (6-2, 205), 2014 ATH Javonte Seabury (5-8, 150).

_

- DeLand (10-2 in 2011) - The Bulldogs lose every member of a strong secondary and their head coach, but return some very good prospects.

JoJo Kemp, RB, 2013, No. 16 - Kemp (5-10, 190) blends phenomenal strength with good quickness and is one of the area’s top RBs. His recruitment is close to rising to another level, with UF and Arkansas looking at offering him. USF is thought to be the favorite, but an influx of offers this spring could change things up.

Dantwaun O’Neal, WR, 2013, No. 27 – His numbers are lacking because he plays in a run-first system, but O’Neal (6-2, 190) has drawn offers from FIU and South Alabama because he has prototypical size, good hands and is a willing blocker.

Lincoln Stewart, LB, 2013, No. 37 – Stewart might be a shade under 6-feet (5-11, 225) but schools are looking past that because he is extremely productive and instinctual. Memphis, Georgia State and Bethune Cookman have offered.

Marquion Lane, ATH, 2013, No. 54 - Although he didn’t cut it as a QB last year, Lane has terrific athleticism and can play a variety of positions. FSU, USF and Arkansas are among the schools to have offered.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 WR Pop Sharpe (5-11, 165), 2013 WR Chauncey Kennedy (5-10, 165), 2013 DT Steven Opsina (6-1, 270).

Orlando Freedom at Orlando University

_

-Freedom (6-4) – The Patriots fell just short of the playoffs and must now find a way to get by without QB Derik Abbott.

Jeff Badet, WR, 2013, No. 29 – This nimble WR has the ability to play inside or outside in college. He is extremely quick and has terrific hands. Badet has been offered by Boston College, FIU and Bowling Green.

Kevin Maurice, OL/DL, 2013, NR - Boston College became Big Maurice’s first college offer last week. He is a tad shorter (6-2, 270) than some schools would like and lacks great bench-press numbers, but his raw strength allows him to hold up in the trenches and he is surprisingly quick.

Lee Grant, DB, 2013, NR - “The General” is one of the toughest players in the area, but his lack of ideal speed and height (5-9, 160) might prevent him from going to the DI level. Regardless, he’s an impact player.

Justin North, LB, 2013, NR – North (6-2, 220) passes the eye test but has yet to pick up an offer. He played DE last year and has moved to LB, so his lack of film as a LB is hurting him at this point. It’s hard to imagine that he will go through the process without a single offer.

Winter Garden West Orange at Orlando Edgewater, 7:30 p.m.

_

-West Orange (7-3 in 2011) - The Warriors just missed out on the playoffs last year and figure to be in the mix in 2012 because of the strong senior class they have coming back.

Corey Vereen, DE/LB, 2013, No. 4 - The Tennessee commit is a disruptive DE/LB hybrid that can play either position in college. Coaches believe he could be a pro player one day.

Winston Chastang, DE, 2013, No. 33 – Creates quite the duo with Vereen. Chastang (6-2, 225) has good strength and solid technique. Navy has offered.

Roman Tatum, DB, 2013, No. 52 – Size (5-10, 17) and speed aren’t top of the line, but he makes up for it with physicality and technique. Also has a good attitude. Wofford offered this week.

Vernon Marshall, WR, 2013, NR - Possession receiver uses his strong frame (6-3, 171) to box out opponents and come down with jump balls. FAMU and BCC have offered.

Jock Petree, DE/LB, 2013, T60 – Coach’s son plays with a lot of intensity. Navy has offered.

Garrett Johnson, WR, 2014 - Johnson is a smooth, sure-handed WR that does everything well. He’s a little smaller (5-9, 160) but that shouldn’t hinder his recruitment. Louisville is very interested.

Other Prospects to Watch - 2013 DL Nathan Ozdemir (6-2, 215), 2013 OL Will Fick (6-0, 305), CB Jordan Nix (5-9, 165), RB Roderick Jernigan (5-8, 160).

_

- Edgewater (7-4 in 2011) – The Eagles had a solid season, but a coaching change and the loss of ATH Alton Howard and S Karl Joseph means the team must reload in 2012.

Troy Dunnell, LB, 2013, No. 45 - Dunnell (6-0, 195) is a very quick, explosive LB. He is probably one of the better players in Central Florida that doesn’t have an offer.

Malik Thompson, DE, 2013, No. 50 – An impressive prospect because of his size (6-7, 275) and mobility. Thompson received his first offer from N.C. State earlier this week and plenty more should be on the way.

Darius Tolbert, OL, 2013, No. 53- One of the bigger prospects in the area, Tolbert (6-5, 305) has earned a FAMU offer.

Tim Miller, WR, 2013, No. 57 – Without Howard, Miller becomes the Eagles’ deep threat. He also has a FAMU offer.

John Altman, RB, 2013, No. 60 – Although he’s undersized (5-8, 170), Altman is a tough inside runner with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Other Players to Watch: 2013 TE Keith Dilley (6-2, 192), S Arthur Brown (5-11, 170), DL David Green (5-10, 260).

Other Prospects/Games to Watch

-New Smyrna Beach at Viera, 7:30 p.m

NSB WR James Clark (5-11, 165), 2013, No. 18 – More than 20 offers (FSU, Miami) for the speedster.

NSB Dexter Dixon (5-11, 170), 2013

_

-Mt Dora at Harmony, 7:30 p.m.

Harmony LB Riley Nicholson (6-1, 210), 2015

-Port Orange Spruce Creek vs. Daytona Beach Mainland at Municipal, 7

Mainland DE/LB Quinton Powell (6-3, 220), No. 1 – Area’s top player is a strong UF commit.

Mainland ATH Cameron Hadley (5-9, 170), No. 42

Mainland DT Jontey Byrd (5-11, 265)

Mainland OL Joey Rauseo (6-6, 290)

Mainland DT Keilan Jones (6-0, 260)

Mainland OL Wayne Scott (6-4, 330)

Spruce Creek ATH Michael Colubiale (6-3, 205)

Spring football is heating up in Central Florida, with 11 games scheduled for Thursday.

Here are some notable prospects that will be in action tonight.

Davenport Ridge Community at Groveland South Lake, 6 p.m.

-South Lake (4-6 in 2011) – The Eagles had high hopes in 2011 but never really gelled. A new coaching staff has some decent holdovers, although the transfer of safety Marcell Harris will hurt.

Kris White, ATH, 2013, NR on 2013 Central Florida Super60 – This jack-of-all-trades athlete can play all over the field, but he keeps growing (6-2, 215), meaning his future could be at S or LB. He’s a very thoughtful person and has good grades, which will help him out in the recruiting process. Memphis and Kent State have offered and Temple is in the mix.

Palm Coast Matanzas at South Daytona Warner Christian, 7 p.m.

-Warner Christian (10-3 in 2011) – The small-school power loses head coach Andy Price and WR Taylor Oldham (UCF signee), but figures to still have double-digit win potential because of a strong running attack.

Marcus Dixon, RB, 2013, No. 32 – A well-balanced runner, Dixon put up huge numbers last season, rushing for 2,213 yards and 38 touchdowns on 217. Dixon (5-9, 190) is a fantastic talent that can power between the tackles or catch out of the back field, but he’s still searching for his first offer.

Kissimmee Osceola at Lakeland Lake Gibson, 7 p.m.

-Osceola (10-2 in 2011) – The Kowboys return arguably the area’s strongest core of seniors. If Osceola gets good play from its offensive line, then the team should have a chance to make a deep postseason run.

Stafon McCray, RB, 2013, No. 15 – This bruiser thrives as a B-Back in the Kowboys’ triple-option scheme. McCray utilizes his low center of gravity and dense build to push piles and break tackles on inside runs, but he has enough wiggle to get outside and break away. McCray (5-11, 185) has seven offers, including UCF and N.C. State.

Hassan Childs, DB, 2013, No. 40 – Childs (6-1, 190) will be an impact player on both sides of the ball this season. He is a wiry, fluid prospect with good instincts and has the ability to play anywhere in the defensive backfield.

Other Players to Watch: 2013 DE Peter Bailey (6-3, 215), 2013 DB Brandon Baker (5-10, 165), 2013 LB CC Smithson (5-11, 185), 2013 ATH Josh Antoine (6-0, 180), 2013 OL Josh Phelps (6-2, 298), 2013 LB Jose Sanchez (6-0, 190), 2014 LB Mikeice Adams (5-11, 190), 2015 DB Dominic Lee (NA), 2015 DB Stephon Brown (NR).

Apopka Wekiva at Clermont Lake Minneola

-Wekiva (4-6 in 2011) - After showing glimpses in 2011, this might be the season that Wekiva breaks through and makes a run at the postseason.

Terrence Ross, S, 2013, No. 19 – Known for his devastating hits and knack for making plays, Ross (6-3, 185) has gone from relative unknown to one of Central Florida’s top DB prospects. The Louisville commit spearheads a gifted defense.

Sam Jallah, DB, 2013, No. 51 – A workout wonder, Jallah has all the athletic tools of a DI player, but he’s a little undersized (5-9, 190), which might be hurting his perceived value among colleges. Expect offers to eventually come his way.

Other Players to Watch - 2013 CB Reggie Brown (5-10, 165), WR Damoun Patterson (6-1, 165).

- Lake Minneola (1-9 in 2011) - The start-up program is going to go through some rough patches, but the Hawks have the ability to get a step closer to .500 this season.

Marvin Hart, ATH, 2013, NR - Quick gadget player is dangerous once he gets into the open field because of his 4.5 speed (electronic). Hart (5-9, 160) can make an impact as a RB , WR and KR.

Other Players to Watch – 2013 LB Morris Lawrence (6-1, 185), 2013 DL Braxton Larmond (6-3, 260), 2013 OL Garrett Carson (6-4, 295).

Deltona at Winter Park, 7 p.m.

-Winter Park (6-5 in 2011) - Ranked No. 1 in the preseason by the Sentinel, the Wildcats struggled with chemistry issues and lost a handful of close games. A young offensive line will no longer be a weak link and the team should be more balanced this season.

Asiantii Woulard, QB, 2013, No. 17 - Arguably the state’s top 2013 passer, Woulard has all the physical tools college coaches crave. He has excellent technique, mobility, a big arm and size (6-4, 210), but must become a better game manager to go from good to great. Committed to USF this offseason, but decommitted prior to spring in order to see what else was out there. Ole Miss, Boston College, Syracuse and others have offered.

Blake McClain, DB, 2013, No. 21 - McClain (6-0, 185) is one of the more polished players in Central Florida. He carries himself well and has the versatility to play anywhere in the secondary. USF, Rutgers, Arizona, Mississippi State, Illinois, FIU and Indiana have offered.

Gabe McClary, WR, 2014 – The speedster already has offers from USF and North Carolina. Schools love his combo of size (6-3, 190) and smarts (4.6 GPA) .

Trent Harris, DL, 2014 - Relatively unknown at this point, but Harris should emerge as a DI prospect this season.

Other Players to Watch – 2013 RB Ian Banks-Tillman (5-10, 175), 2013 OL Connor Spear (6-8, 295), 2013 DE William Moore (6-2, 220), 2013 WR Steven Garcia (5-10, 170), 2014 OL Angelo Owens (6-3, 250), 2015 OL Jerry Hill (6-3, 250), 204 WR RaRa Lopes (5-8, 170), 2015 LB Tommy Whitted (5-11, 205).

Orlando Boone at Orlando Colonial, 7:30 p.m.

-Boone (5-6 in 2011) - The Braves rebounded from a 1-4 start to make the postseason with a junior-led squad.

A.J. Turman, RB, 2013, No. 6 – Boone’s offense starts and stops with this work horse. Turman (6-0, 205) is a tough inside runner with enough speed to score from anywhere. One of the top RBs in a loaded 2013 in-state class. FSU, Miami, Georgia and Tennessee are among most notable offers.

Alton Meeks, ATH, 2013, No. 14 – Accomplished wrestler is coming off of shoulder surgery. He’s a physical LB but opted to play QB in college, which is why he committed to Cincinnati.

Other Players to Watch - 2013 TE Blake Orvis (6-4, 225), 2013 DE/LB Darrian Pennant (6-0, 200), 2013 DE Cody Grant (6-4, 230).

-Colonial (2-8 in 2011) – A relatively talented Colonial squad was unable to utilize its big-play threats. With a new staff, the Grenadiers begin a rebuilding process.

Players to Watch: 2013 QB/TE Armando Caballero (6-3, 205), 2014 WR Calvin Smith (6-0, 175), 2013 LB Ricky Hawks (5-11, 200).

St. Cloud vs. Ocoee, 7 p.m.

-St. Cloud (5-6 in 2011) – The Bulldogs did a good job dealing with adversity in 2011 but must find a new starting quarterback in order to be competitive in 2012.

Players to Watch: 2013 WR Jordan Reus (5-10, 161), 2013 ATH E.J. McKenzie (6-1, 175), 2013 RB Eric Pfeifer (5-5, 175).

-Ocoee (2-8 in 2011) - Former Dr. Phillips head coach Dale Salapa will look to instill winning attitude at a talent-rich but underachieving program.

Players to Watch: 2013 WR Oliver Belneau (6-2, 195), 2013 LB Rohan Hylton	(6-0, 215), 2013 DE D’shar Barron (6-3, 225).

There is only one game on the docket tonight, but it’s a good one: Orlando Jones at Orlando Oak Ridge.

Both teams have an abundance of talent and are looking to rebound from disappointing 2011 seasons. This contest was originally scheduled to be on Wednesday, but was moved up to Tuesday.

More than 10 colleges are expected to be in attendance, which indicates the type of talent that will be on hand.

Jones at Oak Ridge, 7 p.m.

-Jones (2-8 in 2011) – The Tigers began the year with talk of playing in the Citrus Bowl–their home field–in the state title game, but injuries quickly derailed the season. Jones returns a handful of senior prospects and can sneak back into the playoffs if those players stay healthy and a struggling offense finds its identity.

Devin Washington, DE, 2013, Ranked No. 5 in Sentinel’s Central Florida Super60 – The South Carolina commit had nearly 30 offers before picking the Gamecocks this spring. Washington (6-3, 225) is a tad undersized for an SEC DE, but his technique, high football IQ and quickness make him a strong prospect. Should thrive as OLB in3-4 scheme this year.

Kermit Whitfield, WR, 2013, Ranked No. 7 – Whitfield was hurt for the first part of last season and his absence was felt. Whitfield, the cousin of Boone speedster and FSU WR Marvin Bracy, is a track star in his own right and stretches the field like few others in the state. Whitfield committed to Miami last year but is now exploring other options

Kendrick Hair, DE, 2013, Ranked No.9 – Some say that Hair projects as an even better DI prospect than Washington, which is saying an awful lot. Hair (6-5, 275) has the size and athleticism to play all over the field. His stock has been stifled somewhat because there was confusion about whether he was a rising junior or senior. Make no mistakes about it, Hair is a senior and has received offers from Louisville, Marshall, Memphis and Boston College.

Other Players to Watch: 2013 DT Michael Miller, 2013 DT Stanley Windom Jr., 2013 ATH Tyrain Taylor, 2013 ATH Wilkenson Myrtil, 2013 DB Vince Martin

-Oak Ridge (6-4 in 2011) – A playoff-caliber team fell short of the postseason because of its inability to consistently score in the redzone, but the Pioneers bring back enough talent to improve on its shortcomings and make a run in 2012.

Deangelo Antoine, ATH, 2015 – Huge things are expected from Antoine (5-9, 165), who doubles as a track star. Antoine is a FS/WR for Oak Ridge, but will likely be a CB in college. Louisville offered last week, meaning there will likely be plenty more on the horizon.

Jerrell Antoine QB, 2014 – Antoine (6-0, 160) is on the shorter side right now, but he continues to grow. He has a relatively tall family, so height shouldn’t be a concern later on in his recruitment. He threw for 1,500 yards and 12 TDs as a sophomore and possesses one of the area’s top arms. Louisville has offered him as well.

Vic Love, WR, 2013, NR – A basketball player, Love is new to football but big things are expected from him because of his size (6-5, 180) and fluidity.

Dontay Perkins, LB/DE, 2013, NR - An instinctual play maker and defensive leader, Perkins (6-0, 225) is drawing interest from Ivy League and Patriot League schools because of his grades (3.6 GPA, 17 ACT). USF has been in contact too.

Algie Alexander, CB, 2013, NR - Another good athlete in Oak Ridge’s secondary. Alexander is a natural cover corner and is hearing from Marshall.

Other Players to Watch: 2013 OL Herve Thelemaque, 2014 OL Daquane Wilkie, 2014 RB Trey Arthur

That’s not to say that he doesn’t like USF. In fact, the Bulls are one of the top contenders for his services, although he claims no favorites at this point.

But McClain (6-0, 185) wanted to have options. He waited almost a year between his first offer and second offer (FIU), and now the offers are finally pouring in.

McClain, a player capable of contributing as a safety or corner in college, received offers from Rutgers, Boston College and Middle Tennessee State this past week, giving him eight total.

He is ranked as the No. 21 prospect in Central Florida on the Sentinel’s Super60.

Ten games are on the docket, which means there are plenty of prospects to talk about. Here are some of Friday’s top matchups/players to keep an eye on.

Seminole vs. Lake Mary, 6 p.m. at Lake Brantley High

-Seminole (3-7 in 2011) - Injuries derailed Seminole’s season. There are still some questions that the Seminoles must answer this spring, but the team has the talent get back to its winning ways in 2012.

EA Watkins, ATH, 2013, Ranked No. 13 in Sentinel’s 2013 Super60 – Watkins (5-11, 195) isn’t 100 percent back from a knee injury he sustained last year, but he’s still one of the area’s top play makers. Although he must increase his 2.3 GPA , schools are taking the gamble on Watkins–a WR, RB, KR, DB and wildcat QB. Purdue, Memphis, Utah State and FAMU have offered.

Ronnie Moore, ATH, 2013, No. 35 – Like Watkins, Moore also dealt with injuries last year. Moore looks to be back to full strength and parlayed a strong spring into his first college offer, with Cincinnati offering earlier this week. Moore has been a productive runner in his career but is likely a DB at the next level.

London Byrd, LB, 2013, NR – Productive backer (86 tackles in 2o11) plays with a lot of intensity. Byrd (5-10, 200) does a good job closing in on runners and finishing off tackles. Has DI-AA potential, but he’s a little undersized, which hurts his value.

Other Prospect to Watch – 2013 OL Walter Scapecchi (injured), 2013 ATH Solomon Hardy, 2013 DT Rashad Hampton, 2013 WR Alex Glenn

-Lake Mary (8-3 in 2011) – A breakout season for the Rams ended abruptly in a close first-round loss to DeLand, but Lake Mary has the weapons to make another run.

Jerod Fernandez, LB, 2013, No. 22 – Once a quite and reserved player, Fernandez (6-1, 210) has gained confidence and is stepping up as the team’s emotional leader. He plays a lot like West Orange’s Corey Vereen and has seen some big offers come in this spring: Pitt, UCF, Rutgers and Kentucky have offered, but N.C. State appears to be in the lead.

Taylor Marini, TE, 2013, No. 34 – Although he wasn’t an integral part of Lake Mary’s passing attack last year, Marini is now Central Florida’s top tight end. Colleges like his size (6-4, 230) size, physicality and explosiveness off the line. UCF, USF, Louisville, FIU, Minnesota, Temple and Rutgers have offered. Marini is keeping in-depth info about his recruitment close to the vest until after spring.

Adam Torres, DL, 2014 – Torres (6-5, 265) picked up his first offer from FIU on Thursday. The rising junior is a big player with the versatility to contribute across the defensive line and on the offensive line as well. Could emerge as a big-time prospect.

Other Prospect to Watch - 2013 DE Quan Boone, 2013 ATH Devon Jones-Stewart, 2013 RB Robert Brown, 2013 LB Fitzroy Blake, 2013 DB Anthony DeLuca, 2014 LB Ja’len Burgess, 2014 ATH Daniel Brown, 2014 WR Antonio Johnson, 2015 OL Robert Hillary.

Winter Park Lake Howell vs. Ovideo Hagerty, 6 p.m., at Oviedo

-Hagerty (6-4 in 2011) – Life without top quarterback Jeff Driskel wasn’t so bad for the Huskies, who replaced him with his little brother, Jason. Hagerty is growing into a more complete program but loses some strong seniors from last year.

Jason Driskel, QB, 2014 – Not quite as athletic as his big brother, but Driskel’s arm is right on par and he might be a more polished passer when it’s all said and done. He threw for 1,116 yards and 13 TDs as a sophomore.

Spencer Saundermann, LB, 2013 - As a rush-end type of LB, Saundermann (5-11, 200) wreaked havoc in backfields, totaling 21 TFL last season.

-Lake Howell (3-7 in 2011) - The Silver Hawks had some talent at the skill positions but couldn’t always maximize that in 2011.

Garrett Kruczek, QB, 2014 – The son of former UCF head coach Mike, Garrett Kruczek is a skilled QB with a strong arm and good mobility. He is also a good P/K.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 QB Michael McCoy, 2013 TE Preston Haines.

Lyman at Lake Brantley, 8 p.m.

-Lake Brantley (10-1 in 2011) – The Patriots were one of the area’s surprise teams, going undefeated in the regular season before falling in the first round of the playoffs. There is talent coming back, but replacing RB Ti’on Green will not be easy.

Dominic Zanca-McDonald, LB, 2013, No. 53 – Zanca-McDonald’s first offer was from Tennessee and he jumped on it, committing to the Vols this spring. Zanca-McDonald is a big backer (6-2, 235) with the strength to play on the defensive line too. He excellent burst makes him very disruptive.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 S Donovan Franks, 2013 ATH/QB Damon Haecker, 2013 DE Chris Ploch, 2013 LB Jacob Rudd, 2013 TE Dalton Cuff , 2014 ATH Deondre Fair.

Foundation at Orangewood Christian, 4:30 p.m.

-Orangewood Christian (4-6 in 2011) - Bill Gierke will try to wield his influence in the second years as the Rams’ head coach.

Jimmy Martin, LB, 2015 – Martin (5-11, 195) dominated lower-level competition as a freshman and has a ton of potential. He can also play RB.

Bishop Moore at East River, 7 p.m.

-Bishop Moore (9-2 in 2011) - The Hornets had a strong regular season but faltered in the post season. They lose RBs Tyler Floyd and Blake Tiralosi but still have a some experience in the back field.

Danny May, QB, 2013, NR – A wizard at running the triple-option attack, May (6-1, 175) has a decent arm to keep defenses off balance. He has the athleticism to move to another position in college but schools are definitely looking at him as a QB. Drawing interest from schools like Penn, Harvard, Columbia, Yale and Princeton because of his 3.9 GPA and 25 ACT score.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 RB Jak Ramsburger, 2013 CB Trey Anderson, 2013 WR Connor Yahn, 2013 LB Colton Yahn.

-East River (7-4 in 2011) – This big, physical squad lost some close games in 2011 to miss out on the playoffs and will have to get creative on offense in 2012 with some key losses on offense.

Ryne Rankin, LB, 2013, No. 10 – Arguably the area’s toughest player, Rankin (6-1, 225) plays with a chip on his shoulder and is a natural LB. He committed to Georgia last month but is still receiving attention from schools like Florida.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 OL Jacob Bear, 2013 RB Joshua Holoman.

Inverness Citrus at Bushnell South Sumter, 7:30 p.m.

-South Sumter (9-3 in 2011) - The Raiders figure to have a disruptive defense in 2012 and should make it to the postseason for a second-straight year.

Keanu Neal, S, 2013, No. 2 – Neal has the speed and athleticism to play CB and size (6-0, 205) to be a LB. That combination makes him the top S in Central Florida and one of the nation’s elite prospects. He is a rock-solid Florida commit.

Darien Williston, DE, 2013, NR – When college coaches come to see Neal, they can’t help but notice Williston (6-3, 225), an imposing presence with noteworthy athleticism. Missouri, Kentucky and FIU have offered.

Other Prospects to Watch – 2013 DB Bo Farmer, 2013 S Kenneth Maxwell, 2013 OL Chance Edwards.

The secrete is out about Gabe McClary, Winter Park’s fast, lengthy and brainy 2014 wide receiver prospect.

USF was the first school to offer McClary earlier this month and then North Carolina jumped aboard on Thursday.

McClary (6-3, 190) emerged as a legit prospect this past summer when made tons of plays as a slot receiver (in between Dvario Montgomery and Xavier Amerson) at USF’s 7on7 tournament, so USF was likely hoping to be far and away the first team to offer him. With North Carolina’s offer, it looks like McClary’s recruitment has the potential to go national pretty quickly.

He carried that production onto the field for his sophomore season, nabbing 30 receptions for 364 yards and thee touchdowns.

Although he is still raw in terms of technique, schools will continue to flock to McClary because he has excellent size and deep speed, as well as a 4.6 GPA.

Central Florida spring football games begin this week and Orlando Sentinel Recruiting will focus in on some of the top prospects playing in notable matchups.

We will start our breakdown with a couple of Thursday’s games.

Orlando Lake Highland Prep at Clermont East Ridge, 6 p.m.

-Lake Highland Prep (4-6 in 2011) – The Highlanders are coming off a disappointing season in which they failed to take advantage of three 2012 class members signing with DI schools. Although Lake Highland graduates some key players, the team is still blessed with plenty of athletes.

Landon Stokes, DE/LB, 2013, Ranked No. 20 in Sentinel’s Super60 – With more than 20 offers, Stokes is one of Orlando’s most sought-after recruits. He has NFL bloodlines (father Fred Stokes won Super Bowl on 1992 championship team) and is receiving so much attention because of his stellar size (6-4, 215), agility and solid grades (3.1 GPA). Notable offers include Clemson, West Virginia, Missouri and Vanderbilt.

Casey Irish, ATH, 2013, No. 23 – Irish (6-3, 200), who also doubles as an accomplished lacrosse player at LHP, is a physical LB/TE that has yet to receive his first college offer, but is drawing heavy interest from Ivy League schools. He has said that he’ll pursue football instead of lacrosse in college.

Mike Dorcely, ATH, 2013, No. 43 – FAU, Memphis, Indiana and Washington State have offered Dorcely this spring. He is on record as saying he would likely commit on spot to UCF if offered. Although he primarily plays RB for the Highlanders, Dorcely projects to be a DB in college.

B.J. Simpson, ATH, 2013, No. 45 – LHP’s ‘Mr.Everything’ can play RB, S, WR and option QB. He’s been an impact player on varsity level since his freshman but battled through injuries in 2011. South Alabama offered him last week.

-East Ridge (9-4 in 2011) – The Knights quietly advanced to the third round of the state playoffs last season before falling to state runner-up Jacksonville First Coast 28-21. A tight-knit group of seniors like LB Justin Horton (Jacksonville signee) and RB Randy Bergan led East Ridge, meaning East Ridge will be leaning on RB/LB Brian Mills to shoulder the burden on and off the field this season.

Brian Mills, ATH, 2013, No.59 – A tough inside presence, Mills (5-11, 195) will serve as East Ridge’s signal caller on defense. Navy offered him recently. He might see an increased role at RB/FB this year too.

Darshaun Ford, DB, 2013, NR – The South Lake transfer is a serious sleeper in the 2013 class. He won DB MVP at the Tampa NUC this offseason and recorded 45 tackles and 5 INTs last year. Ford (5-9, 180) lacks blazing speed but has a nose for the ball. USF is showing some interest.

Orlando First Academy at Orlando Lake Nona, 7 p.m.

-First Academy (8-3 in 2011) – TFA’s high-octane offense from 2011 (436 points) returns much of its firepower, so the Royals should be in good shape to make another run at the postseason this year.

Ben DeLuzio, WR, 2013, No. 52 – DeLuzio (6-2, 185) doesn’t have gaudy numbers because TFA runs a flexbone, run-based offense, but his ability to stretch the field is a crucial aspect of the team’s scheme. SMU offered DeLuzio this offseason, giving the baseball star the option of playing both sports in college.

Curt Cramer, QB, 2013, NR – Brainy prospect (4.2 GPA) will get looks from Patriot League and Ivy League-level schools. Cramer (6-2, 200) threw for 1,061 yards and 9 TDs last year, with his primary responsibility being to stretch the field and keep defenses honest with his arm strength.

Lloyd Hylton, RB, 2013, NR – Hylton (6-0, 175) did a lot of damage as a wing back last year (765 rushing yards, 10 TDs) and will have an even bigger role this season. A complete back, Hylton has the power to consistently break tackles and the agility to turn the corner for long gains.

Colton Plante, FB/LB, 2013, NR – Good inside runner is also a proven LB . There isn’t much flash to Plante’s game, he is just a tough-nosed player who gets the job done. Plante (6-2, 215) has experience as a long snapper, too.

-Lake Nona (5-5 in 2011) - After a 5-1 start that included freshman QB Tucker Israel setting the state record for passing TDs in a game (10), the Lions faded down the stretch, dropping their last four games to miss the playoffs. The good news for Lake Nona is that the 2011 team was young and returns most of its contributors.

Wadzaire Blanc, RB, 2014 - The speedster (4.4 40-yard dash) is one of the area’s top 2014 prospects. Blanc (5-8, 175) ran for 10 TDs and nearly 1200 yards last year, earning him an early scholarship offer from South Carolina.

Ryan Sousa, ATH, 2014 - Sousa is far more polished at this point in his career than big brother Kevin, who enrolled as a QB at Wake Forest and redshirted in 2011. The younger Sousa (6-1, 165) recorded more than 800 yards through the air last year but plays all over the field for Lake Nona.

Tucker Israel, QB, 2015 – After a phenomenal freshman season (2,924 yards, 30 TDs), the sky appears to be the limit for Israel, who is cousins with former University High standout and UCF starting QB Kyle Israel. Israel (6-0, 180) lacks elite arm strength but seems to have everything else colleges will look for in a QB, although that can improve since he has plenty of time to grow and get stronger.

Ricky Lewin, DE, 2013, NR – Lewin is on the raw side, but his build (6-4, 250) has Lake Nona coaches expecting big things from him.

Justin Nichols, OL/DL, 2013, NR – Impressive size (6-2, 275) and strength (bench pressed 185 lbs. 27 times this winter) combo make Nichols an intriguing prospect.

Sanford Seminole’s EA Watkins nearly began spring practice as the best prospect in Central Florida without an offer.

However, his fortunes have changed the past couple of weeks. Watkins–ranked No. 13 in the Sentinel’s 2013 Central Florida Super60—received his first offer from Memphis April 25, right before the start of spring practice, and has picked up several more since.

Purdue and FAMU offered last week, then Utah State extended an offer to Watkins Tuesday night, giving him four total.

Watkins (5-11, 195) will play all over the field for Seminole this upcoming season, but will primarily be a WR/RB. He recorded nearly 700 yards of total offense and 10 TDs in six games last season. A torn MCL limited Watkins for most of the year.

Seminole’s spring game will be 5:30 Friday against Lake Mary. The contest is the first game of a double-header at Lake Brantley High in Altamonte Springs.

-Rank: No. 29 on Sentinel’s Super60, No. 66 on Florida Top 100

-Offers: FIU, Bowling Green

Recruit News: Badet received his second college offer from Bowling Green Monday afternoon. FIU was Badet’s first offer last month. Others schools that have stopped by to see Badet this spring include: Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, USF and South Carolina.

Our Take: Although size was once thought to be a concern, coaches have seemingly been OK with Badet’s frame after seeing him in person. Badet is a candidate to receive a few more offers before spring practice ends, which could put him back inside the top 20 of the Super60 list.
