They eventually were Bob Dylan's band, and were such an influential group musically that Eric Clapton wanted to join up. Their farewell performance was on Thanksgiving day 1976 and was filmed by Martin Scorcese and eventually released as "The Last Waltz". An amazing movie and soundtrack with performances by a group of performers that simply cannot be believed. Remember that this was before the days of mega concert tributes. These folks just showed up! From "Werewolves of London" to all of the hits he wrote for other people, his was an amazing talent. Unfortunately his life was cut short in September of 2003 by inoperable cancer. Enjoy what there is of his incredible talent. A great tribute CD was compiled starring a host of others titled "Enjoy Every Sandwich".
