I visited Alexandria recently. Very interesting city that I strongly recommend, even if t is as chaotic as Cairo. The only Accor option there is the Rixos Montaza Alexandria which is not downtown but about 15 km east. This can be seen as an inconvenient for the visitors, but I see it as an advantage as it is located in a quieter part of the city and not in the madness. In the morning, a very cheap 20 min Uber ride leads you downtown. This time can be doubled at busy traffic times.

The hotel is located in the Montaza park, a nice and clean park very popular for the locals for promenades and leisures, on the sea shore. Inside this park, you have the Montaza palace, former royal residence and now a Presidential residence.

Montaza royal palace (now Presidential palace)

The park is paid access-controlled, but not for hotel guests of course. When you order a Uber, you need to give the license plate to the front desk and they call the gate to inform them. The park has several high end hotels in it, the Rixos is one them. The Rixos is in fact a resort scattered in 3 independent buildings, quite far from each other. They have golf cars to transport people on demand from one place to another. Each building has restaurants. The whole thing is a bit confusing because they dont give you any map and the English skills of many staff members is somewhat limited so its not always easy to understand. Despite a few communication problems, all staff were really lovely and trying to do their best. Some restaurants are la carte, some proposed a buffet.

The different buildings are of very different styles.

This is the largest one, very modern, where they do conventions. It has a buffet restaurant, and a pseudo-Italian one ;)
Thiis is the King Fouad building, modern style as well, along the beach. It has another buffet or la carte restaurant (indoor and on the beach)

This is the Salamiek palace building, just above King Fouad building, with castle-like decor. It has a la carte French restaurant (not so French in my opinion, but it doesnt matter). Breakfast is taken in King Fouad aisle.

I booked a Premium King Fouad room sea view and was upgraded to Grande Suite Salamiek Palace (54 m2). I have to say, its one of the rare time when I would have preferred not to be upgraded. Indeed, you move from a modern style room to a bling-bling castle design which I am not a big fan of. But hotel was full and no more room was available in other aisles and, clearly, I understood they were very proud and happy to upgrade me in this suite. I am certainly not complaining because the room was very large and with a superb balcony with comfy armchairs with great view. Welcome gift was fruits + oriental pastries. One very irritating thing was the total lack of plugs available / accessible in the room. only one near the beds and at an inconvenient place/height.

There is, unfortunately, no lounge at this hotel. Another irritant has been around the drink voucher. Most staff had no clue about it, then I was told that it was only valid for soft drinks. And when I wanted to redeem it for a soft drink on the beach, I was told its not possible :(

All meals at the hotel were very good.
Overall, a good stay in a clean and well maintained hotel, with nice staff. A few irritants but nothing really bad. Points posted fast and correct amount.

Experiences with Cancelling a Chase Card, then immediately reapplying

I have had a Marriott Bonvoy card for several years. I have the one with the $95 fee, which I have figured was a pretty good deal as I have been able to get one free night per year, which I have used. Generally a $200 free room for the $95 fee.

However, I have considered cancelling the card and then reapplying. Has anyone done this? Looking at the Chase cards.

In the T&C, it says you can't currently have Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, which I currently have. So I cancel today, wait 2 days (if necessary) and then reapply? It says I can't have received a new cardmember bonus in the last 24 months -- which I haven't -- other than the annual free room. It goes on to say the bonus is not available if I have had a variety of American Express cards related to Marriott, which I have not.

I don't mind the extra $3,000 spend if I can get 125,000 bonus points and then continue with my 1 free night.

Anyone had experience with a fast turnaround of cancel and reapply?

Hi all!
Probably a long shot but does anyone have any experience renting a car in Jeju?
Seems like mostly local companies. Any companies to avoid?
Hertz uses Lotte rent a car but they seem way more expensive than going through Lotte directly.

I was surprised (shocked) by the 80 out of AMS. Does anyone know the reason why it is so high?

Dear sages.

I got a very good redemption for travel SEA-CDG-TLV one way in business for about 95K miles.

Travel is for the beginning of July.

Im not optimistic that AF will resume service to TLV by then. AF may provide other options (like putting me on EL AL CDG-TLV - there is currently award space open to AF on El Al - though I dont love the timing). (I purchased a separate, expensive/ refundable El Al ticket CDG-TLV just in case. This ticket is at a better time than what AF shows available).

I would imagine AF would allow me to use my ticket as far as CDG. Would they provide a refund of miles? Of because ticketing only SEA-CDG would have cost 230K miles, is no refund due?

Would AF allow the current ticket to be used a day earlier, and reroute me to Athens (where I can get a cheep separate ticket to TLV)?

AF is not responsible for my return, as that is on a different ticket.

Hello,
I am trying to figure out if baggage fees apply to an itinerary I am considering booking from France to Japan in Economy, including flights operated by BA and JL.
When trying to book online, the AA website does not provide clear information and only directs me to the AA baggage fees information page (where it refers to prices for "Basic economy" and "Main cabin").
All I can find are the fare types (X for BA and T for JL), which appear to be standard economy classes (which I'm hoping mean no baggage fee).
Is there any way to figure in advance if / how much I will be charged for luggage when booking partner awards?
Thanks in advance.
