From airfare to hotel charges, summer is the time when the prices of everything skyrocket as it is the perfect time to plan a vacation. This is the reason why a lot of people avoid planning a vacation during summer. If you avoid planning a trip in summer because of the imminent expenses, this blog is for you. Read on to find out some smart tips to save big on your vacation this summer.

Tip 1: Be flexible with your travel dates as the prices of air tickets are higher on peak days. For instance, if you don’t have a specific destination in mind, you can use Fly.com’s fare calendar to show the cheapest dates when you can fly to some scenic destinations around the world.

Tip 2: Choose an off-beat destination as it’s likely to be cheaper and less crowded. For instance, a destination like Colombia is not only scenic but also less commercialized, which makes it a pocket-friendly vacation destination.

Tip 3: A lot of credit cards help you earn reward points when you use the card. When planning a vacation, take advantage of this unique feature. Redeem your credit card’s reward points for airfare, hotel stays, train tickets, restaurants, rental cars and much more. You can also check the attractive deals provided by Fly.com to book tickets at pocket-friendly prices.

Tip 4: Travel agents are of great help when it comes to booking flight tickets at an affordable price. The reason is travel agents have access to discounted pricing from various hotels and can help get you attractive deals on everything starting from hotel bookings.

Tip 5: When planning a vacation, there are chances that you may overspend unknowingly. This is the reason why you need to prepare a budget to make sure you don’t overspend. Starting from how much do you need to spend on the tickets, hotel bookings to shopping, prepare a budget for everything and make sure you stick to it. For instance, you can check the price of hotel bookings at Fly.com and choose a place that’s within your budget.

Tip 6: A lot of the famous vacation destinations have multiple airports. So, if you have planned a vacation to any of the major cities, consider flying to an alternate airport. For instance, if you are flying to Paris for a vacation, in addition to Paris-Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG), which is the biggest airport in Paris, you can also fly down to Paris Oly Airport, or Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport.

Tip 7: When planning a vacation abroad, an important point that a lot of people don’t consider is the currency exchange rate. The exchange rates are quite high in a lot of places, which can have an impact on your budget. If you want to go abroad for your vacation, consider the exchange rate while choosing the destination. Opt for less popular places as they will have a lower exchange rate.

Tip 8: When you reach the destination, you need to be aware of the modes of transportation so that you can explore the place with ease. This is the reason why it is necessary to compare the costs of ground transportation options such as rental cars, cabs. This will make it easy for you to opt for something that’s within your budget. If you are not very sure, you can also use Fly.com’s car rental services.

Tip 9: A trip to your favorite destination is incomplete without trying the local cuisine. However, to avoid overspending, make sure you eat at a local restaurant rather than somewhere fancy. Typically, local restaurants are cost-effective and the food is more authentic.

Tip 10: Instead of checking into a hotel, you can choose an all-inclusive resort, which can also be an affordable option. Most all-inclusive resorts provide food, beverages, accommodation, and entertainment. They are a great way of saving money.

Tip 11: Hotel bookings take up a major chunk of your budget when planning a vacation. If you have family or friends living near a major tourist destination, plan a summer vacation there to save money on accommodation.

Tip 12: Another way to cut back on your accommodation expenses is by camping. If you are a nature lover, instead of booking a hotel or resort, you can stay in a cabin at a state park or go camping. This will help you cut back on your hotel bills and at the same time reconnect with nature.

Tip 13: Planning is a great way to save but so is taking a last-minute trip! Resorts, hotels, and even flights can go on sale at the last minute. All you need to do is be alert and keep a tab on any last-minute deals that you may come across.

Tip 14: Instead of flying directly to your destination, you can choose multi-city flights. This will not only save money but also give you an opportunity to visit numerous destinations on a single trip. The stopovers in different cities will help you travel to a variety of places on a single ticket’s price!

Tip 15: Air miles are another way to book flight tickets at pocket-friendly prices. You can use the air miles you earned when booking last minute flight tickets. Using this tip will help you save more on your ticket bookings so that you can spend more on exploring the vacation destination or shopping.

Tip 16: When you are planning a vacation, make the most out of the special offers and schemes that you can get whether it’s related to flight or hotel bookings. There are a lot of resorts that offer complimentary food to kids. If you are traveling with kids, opt for such resorts to save a little extra.

Tip 17: During off-season a lot of flights come up with attractive new offers to rope in more travelers. However, when you find a good flight deal, act quickly and book your tickets immediately. Don’t wait too long to book it later as deals tend to disappear quickly.

Tip 18: If you want to save a little extra on your flight tickets, it is necessary to make some adjustments. So, you can book ‘Red-eye flights’, which save a lot of money. So if you can do without sleep for a night choose these flights.

Tip 19: Find the best last-minute flight deals by signing up with Fly.com. This way you will get price alerts every time last-minute flight tickets are available. When it comes to flight tickets, you can take the help of Fly.com to book last minute flight tickets and get some attractive deals on the same.

Tip 20: If you haven’t decided on a date, use Fly.com’s Fare Calendars to instantly know the cheapest dates and best flight deals to any destinations around the world.

Got travel plans in 2020? We’re sure you do! The tricky part is striking a balance between an enjoyable trip and a budget-friendly one. Even the most experienced of travelers, saving money and time on travel is a difficult task. However, with the help of some smart travel tips, saving money and time when planning a vacation can be easy. So, in this blog, we discuss some smart tips that you need to remember when planning a vacation this year.

Book Your Flights in Advance

Almost every travel expert will tell you this – timing is crucial when it comes to booking flight tickets. The thumb rule is to be neither too late, nor too early. The right timing will differ depending on whether you’re planning to travel within the country or outside. For most domestic flights, the ideal booking time ranges between 1-3 months in advance of the journey. International flights, however, need to be booked around 1.5 to 5 months before the journey.

Travel Off-Peak

Flight fares are a direct reflection of demand. If you are flexible with your dates, it is advisable to fly during the off-season and you may be lucky enough to get an attractive discount on the flight tickets. You can even book off-season flights to get cheaper tickets. For example, early-bird flights (early morning departure) or red-eye flights (post-midnight departure) are those that do not have a high demand and can be bagged at dirt-cheap prices.

Purchase a Sightseeing Pass

Famous tourist destinations offer passes that typically come with pre-paid admission to the place’s most popular spots along with discounts on others. These passes come with “skip the line” access to the region’s busiest attractions. So, you can forget about spending hours in a queue just to visit a single spot. As a tourist, what else could be more valuable than time!

Fly No-Frill

Another sure-shot way to save big on flight tickets is to travel via budget-friendly or low-cost carriers, specifically designed to offer cheap airfares than their full-service counterparts. However, do keep in mind that the reduced fares offered by no-frill carriers have some drawbacks such as – no free checked baggage allowance, complimentary meals, or wide leg and shoulder-room.

Pack Light and Smart

Packing light is the kind of age-old wisdom that a lot of people often forget to embrace. Packing light and smart will help you save both time and money – you don’t have to worry about excess baggage fees at the airport for starters. Moreover, packing heavy is a hassle also in the sense that you constantly have to double-check that you haven’t left anything behind. To make sure that you travel light, invest in lightweight travel strollers. Secondly, plan all that you are going to do on the trip and carry essentials accordingly. As far as clothes are concerned, adopt the concept of a capsule wardrobe so that you have a few essential pieces that can be mixed and matched to form several outfits.

Avoid Spending Extra on Food

Eating at a fancy restaurant can burn a hole in your pocket when you are on a vacation. This is the reason why it is advisable to find a food catering service or a food mess to save money. Instead of splurging on fancy coffee or luxury food, opt for local delicacies and street foods. Eat your heart out but make sure you stick to your budget and don’t overspend on fancy food items.

Use Public Transport

Using public transport is not only safe but also a budget-friendly option. Cabs will unnecessarily increase your expenses, especially if you are in a foreign country. A lot of places also provide cycles to explore nearby locations. You can take advantage of this affordable and environment-friendly option to explore the different destinations.

Last Few Words

Now that you know expert ways to save big, time to plan your vacation! Come to Fly.com, compare fares across hundreds of airlines and bag the best deals on your flight tickets.

All set to jump into the holiday waters? But, what if it’s shark-infested? Vacations are good things but when they come with rip-offs and money-wasters, they become a no-go. However, being a little cautious can help you avoid travel frauds. So, in this blog, we discuss some of the common travel rip-offs and tips to keep them at bay so that you do not need another holiday to recover from their trauma.

Tourist Packages

Ever been tempted by the message, “Hurray! You’ve won a free trip to so and so place!”? If yes, you know the most typical scam that there is. Never fall for such messages and their packages.

Moreover, it even happens that tourists book a package only to find hidden charges involved or the travel or accommodation not being covered by the tour provider. In worst-case scenarios, travelers get tricked only to discover that their holiday company has vanished into thin air.

This is the reason why it’s advisable to avoid opting for a tourist package without having gone through its reviews.

Airport Victuals

The food and water sold at airports are always overpriced. In addition, the food tastes bad, is barely nutritious and purchased solely to kill time.

As a result, hungry and parched passengers end up paying two to three, sometimes even five times more than the usual price for a nibble of food and beverage – any frugal person’s nightmare. The tour packages are already expensive enough, spending on tasteless and unhealthy only adds to your expenses. A wise thing to do would be to have a filling, wholesome meal before arriving at the airport. You can also carry some healthy snacks for your flight, especially if it’s a long-haul one that does not include complimentary meals.

Baggage Fees

Ignorant travelers almost always get riled by excess baggage fees. This can be a total mood spoiler and give an ugly start to your dream vacation. The foremost important thing to learn is to pack light. This includes not just the stuff you carry but even the type of bags or suitcases in which you pack your belongings. Older suitcases are often bulkier, which adds to your baggage weight. Opting for lightweight, smart travel strollers can help you save on the baggage fees.

A smart move is to invest in a portable weight checker to beat the baggage fee system. Weighing as you pack will help you remove those extra layers or even out your loads in a separate bag. If you do need to carry some extra weight, pay for it online instead of the boarding gate. Airlines offer as high as 50% discounts on excess luggage paid online in advance than at the last minute.

Currency Exchange

When you are traveling abroad, make sure you are prepared for everything including currency exchange. As the airport is the first place all travelers go to in a new country, not being prepared comes at a huge cost. However, a smart move that you can make to avoid paying extra is by getting it exchanged from a local bank or an in-airport bank or ATM. Not only do airports give a currency exchange rate that is 7 to 15% higher than the standard bank rate but also charges transaction fees that could be anywhere between $5 to $15.

The best way to steer clear of poor currency exchange rates is to get foreign currency in advance from a local bank or even an in-airport bank or ATM.

Parking

Most passengers who get to the airport via their vehicle know what a financial pinch parking costs can be – nearly three times as much as standard parking rates. One way to avoid such high parking costs is to take public transport and on-demand ride services. Another way to go about this would be to ask a family member or a friend to give a ride to and from the airport. But, if you must take your vehicle, it is advisable to opt for pre-booked halting spots and off-airport parking garages as these are an affordable option.

Travel rip-offs can burn a hole in your pockets. With a little awareness and planning, you can dive deep into the holiday waters with no money-wasting sharks infesting its purity. Following the smart moves mentioned above can save you from these losses.

Amid eager anticipation and awaited celebrations to welcome another new decade, a silent killer emerged from Wuhan, the capital of Hubei in China- the deadly coronavirus or COVID-19, as officially named by the WHO.

This novel strain of the virus, named after its crown-like spikes, has induced fear in the hearts of everyone. First reported in December 2019, COVID-19 is posing a global threat and there has been no success in controlling the situation. The virus has taken hold of the entire world with fresh cases in India.

Covid-19: Preparing for a Pandemic

As per the latest consensus, COVID-19 has spread to about 72 countries besides China, and the threat of a pandemic continues to linger. The WHO has been preparing daily situation reports for keeping the masses updated. According to its latest report released on 3rd March 2020, eight new member states – Andorra, Jordan, Latvia, Morocco, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Tunisia – have reported cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

At present, the total number of confirmed cases across the world is 90,870, out of which 80,304 cases belong to China and 10,566 belong to the remnant. The number of reported deaths stands at 2,946 in China and 166 across other nations.

Impact of COVID-19 on Airlines

The incessant spread of the epidemic has led to an “abnormally low demand” for air travel bookings. A lot of travelers have either postponed or canceled international trips. Such a fall in demand is undoubtedly going to cost airlines but what exactly could be the price? According to the estimates of Phil Seymour, chief executive of the International Bureau of Aviation; COVID-19 can cost the airline sector a whopping $100 billion! – The financial crisis of the past decade doesn’t even come close. There is also a high likelihood of several airlines going entirely bankrupt if the situation continues.

Many carriers such as Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., and Singapore Airlines have asked their staff members to go on a voluntary, paid leave. The initiative has been taken to curb costs amid the downturn. Other airlines have also responded to the crisis by cutting down administration costs and offering unpaid leave.

World Airports take Measures to Contain the Virus’ Spread

Up until the mid of February, travel restrictions on those traveling to and from Wuhan had already been imposed with the US disallowing all non-nationals or non-residents who had visited the mainland of China, from entering. Almost every other nation has completely banned the entry of anyone who has traveled to mainland China in the past 14 days.

Besides Wuhan, the epicenter of coronavirus and China in general, South Korea (the country with the most reported COVID-19 cases after China) has also announced lockdown and restricted travel. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a warning of Level-3 (very high risk) for South Korea, advising American citizens to limit all non-essential travel to the country.

But, with the virus rapidly spreading across other parts of the world – the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East – travel restrictions have become even tighter. Travelers from Italy and South Korea are required to go through additional screenings at the US airports.

Iranian citizens too have been banned from entering the US. This ban extends to even foreign nationals who may have visited Iran in the past 14 days. As Iran has the highest mortality rate outside of Hubei (China), Australia and New Zealand add Iran to their list of travel ban besides China.

Fiji, India, Israel, Mauritius, Mongolia, Seychelles, among others has completely banned entry of passengers travelling from Italy. Passengers who have visited the UK in the past 21 days are to be quarantined in the Solomon Islands.

Overall, European countries have fewer restrictions in place except for Poland where any passenger travelling from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Italy, and Macao are required to fill in a health declaration form.

Last Few Words

International airports have buckled up on their preventive measures. For example – Prague has allotted separate gates for passengers flying in from China or Italy. Airports in the UK are implementing advanced monitoring regarding direct flights from China. Airlines have reduced in-flight services to avoid unnecessary contact with passengers. Aircraft and lounges are being regularly disinfected. Moreover, some airlines such as Cathay Pacific have even closed lounges in airports to further tighten precautionary measures. With the strictest measures in place, will the COVID-19 stop its onslaught on humanity is something only time will reveal.

Spring is just around the corner and it’s the right time to take a break from your busy schedule. It’s time to plan a relaxing trip – wash away your stress in the beaches of the Bahamas or leave worries behind as you stand to gaze in awe at the enchanting Eiffel Tower.

However, every good thing comes at a price; however, planning your spring break is not always as expensive as you think. Here are a few tips to help you afford a memorable trip this spring break.

Book Early and Book Smart

When it comes to planning a vacation during the peak season, it is never too early to plan your journey and book your flight tickets. The ideal window for booking Spring Break flights is 1-3 months in advance of the departure date. This means tickets will be most affordable from December to February.

Opt for the Cheapest Itinerary

Most of us are naturally inclined to draw the most out of the weekends. Most of the travelers prefer to fly out on a Friday and return on the Sunday of the upcoming weekend. However, the problem is Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are the most expensive days to fly. For budget-friendly travel, opt for the weekdays, especially Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when airfares are affordable. To further increase your chances of grabbing cheap flight tickets, travel via early-bird or red-eye flights.

Go Where the Crowds Don’t

Flight ticket prices are greatly influenced by demand. As Spring Break is a time when demand for air travel will be high, your chances of finding cheap flights depend upon the destination. Opt for a destination that is less likely to be a Spring Break hot spot.

Destinations such as Cancun, Florida, the Spanish coastline, South Padre Island, Belize, Punta Cana, among others will prove to be expensive. On the other hand, less-frequented spots such as Nicaragua, Venice, Barbados, and Portland will get you cheaper airfare.

Be Flexible

Even after you’ve decided upon some great off-the-beaten-path destinations to visit this Spring Break, remember to be flexible with your options as this will increase your chances of finding dirt-cheap flight tickets. Keep a fairly long list of fun destinations open for consideration. Compare flight tickets and choose the ones with low prices. The smart move will help you book flight tickets to your favorite destination within your budget.

Keep Your Searches Anonymous

Incognito browsing is indeed an evergreen hack for bagging affordable flight tickets. Airline and travel websites use cookies to gather information about your browsing patterns. Once they find that you’ve been eyeing a particular flight or route a couple of times, they tend to raise prices for subsequent visits. To avoid burning a hole in your pocket, use your browser in the private or incognito mode so that your browsing habits are not registered. You can further beat the system by clearing your browser’s cookies or visiting the website from a different device.

Make every Spring Break trip an unforgettable one with amazing flight deals on Fly.com. Compare flight ticket prices and grab the best bargain today!

For a lot of people who love traveling, spring is the time to get a break from their mundane life and let their hair down. However, a common problem that a lot of people face is getting affordable flight tickets and holiday packages without compromising on your plans. But, with a little planning, you can plan a trip to your favorite destination without breaking the bank. The blog lists some useful tips that will help you travel big on a small budget. Read on.

The Earlier You Book, the Better

The golden rule of saving big on flight tickets, be it for spring break or any other time of the year, is to book your tickets in advance.

So, plan your trip and book the tickets as soon as possible. The ideal time to book your domestic flights is one to three months before your travel date and for international flights, the same would be one-and-a-half to five months in advance of your journey.

Compare, Compare, and Compare!

When it comes to bagging affordable flight tickets, make sure you compare the price of the flight tickets before making the final decision. It could be just what you need to get the best deals. This is because a lot is going on behind the scenes.

You may feel that your favorite airline offers the lowest fares but check at least a couple of sites and you may end up getting some attractive deals on flight tickets. However, if you find it difficult to skim through several sites, it can be avoided by choosing fare comparison sites such as Fly.com.

Note – For Southwest airlines, you will have to refer to their official website as the airline does not share its fares.

Don’t Follow the Crowd

Spring break is a time when almost everybody will be in their ‘holiday mode’. This is the reason why the demand for air travel is high. As a result, airlines take full advantage of this time and increase the airfares. Your best bet to grab the cheapest flight tickets rests upon the destination that you choose.

There are a couple of popular destinations that people love to visit during spring break such as Cancun, Belize, Punta Cana, the Caribbean Islands. As a result, the airfares for these destinations will be higher than some of the less popular places.

You can grab this opportunity and book tickets to places that are less likely to be visited during the spring break. Some examples of such destinations are Barbados, Venice, Finland, and Nicaragua.

Flexibility is Key

If you want to save big on your flight tickets, you need to be a little flexible with the destinations, day and time of travel. Don’t be unbending like many travelers regarding the day and time of travel. Be flexible by opting to fly out on a weekday instead of a weekend as prices generally fare higher during the weekends. Moreover, flying via early-bird or red-eye flights will further increase your chances of budget-friendly travel.

Take the Skinny Route

Another effective way to book getting cheap airfares is to opt for a low-cost carrier. Budget-friendly airlines are designed to cater to the needs of frugal passengers, unlike their full-service counterparts.

However, an important point that you need to keep in mind is the low fares of these airlines come at a cost such as no free checked baggage allowance or complimentary meals, or wide leg-room. If you’re fine with the trade-off, low-cost carriers can help you save loads on flight tickets.

There are only two kinds of travelers in the world – the savvy and the not-so-savvy. The former makes the most of every trip by using budget-friendly tips and tricks whereas the latter chooses the well-beaten path that leads to unnecessary expenditures and poor travel experience. So, which kind are you?

If you fall in the second category, fret not! In this blog, we discuss a couple of expert travel tips that will help you bag the best deals whenever you plan a vacation.

Book Tickets in Advance

If you have already decided on the destination, it is advisable to book the tickets in advance. Travel experts know this golden rule that booking tickets in advance can help you grab the best deals.

The ideal booking time will differ for domestic and international flights. Ideally, domestic flights need to be booked about one to two months before your trip. For international flights, make sure you book your flight tickets nearly three to four months in advance.

Booking Last Minute

Apart from booking your tickets early, you can also opt for last-minute flight booking. If you are lucky enough, you may end up getting some attractive deals on your flight tickets. However, you also need to make some adjustments, especially with the destination. Make sure you do not have a destination written in stone. If you do not care so much as to the location of your vacation, booking last-minute flights do turn out to be profitable.

However, you need to do your homework as last-minute flights are either a dirt-cheap deal or a gamble; it all depends on how you do it. Sign up for newsletters of online travel agencies and download mobile apps that give you regular alerts. That way, you won’t miss out on limited-time sales.

Moreover, last-minute tickets are generally cheaper during the shoulder season (between the peak and off-peak season) and the winter months (January to be very precise). In addition, comparing sites and being flexible with the travel dates also help in scoring cheap last-minute deals.

Going Incognito

Ever noticed that after just two revisits to a flight booking website, you find raised airfares on the succeeding visit? The reason is cookies and server details are automatically stored with them, as a result, the system detects that you’ve been revisiting the website, sniffs your motives, and shows raised airfares after a few days.

The best way to not be duped into booking expensive flights due to this reason is to use the private or famous “incognito” mode. In case you’ve been using the browser in the normal mode, make sure to clear the cookies or browse the website using a different browser or device.

Home Swapping

Another genius way to save big on your travels is to look for an affordable accommodation alternative. Home swapping or couch surfing has become highly popular where you can swap homes with someone in the city you’re visiting. It is kind of like the age-old barter system and works well when it comes to budget-friendly travel. There are a lot of sites that help you in swapping your home with another. Not only is this money-saving but it is also a great way to get a more local experience of your destination.

Avoiding Tourist-Trap Restaurants

Ignorant tourists often end with a poor and over-priced dining experience simply because they fall for what is known as tourist-focused or tourist-trap restaurants. Local restaurants are often the best, both in terms of food authenticity and pricing but the problem is tourist restaurants are everywhere.

Tourist-trap restaurants are those located near tourist spots and routes, mostly marketplaces. The hallmarks of such dining spaces are quick service, travelers of every race and tongue dining with their cameras and bags, good view but pricey meals, and standardized predictable taste.

Instead of choosing a fancy restaurant, opt for local restaurants that serve authentic dishes with secret recipes and one-of-a-kind taste. If you don’t know the local language, make sure you do your research about the authentic cuisines to avoid any problems.

By following the above-mentioned tips, you can also travel like the pros out there – all round the year and on a budget!
