Synopsis: Multimillion-selling recording artist Britney Spears makes the transition to the big screen with this teen road trip romantic comedy, co-produced by the film branch of the entity that first brought her pop stardom, MTV. Crossroads casts Spears as Lucy, the shy valedictorian of her high school graduating class. On the night of their prom, Lucy and her once-close childhood friends -- the prim and proper Kit (Zoe Saldana) and the tomboyish, five-months-pregnant Mimi (Taryn Manning) -- reunite to dig up a time capsule they buried together as little girls. Mimi's about to make good on her childhood dreams; she's leaving their small Southern town for hopes of fame and fortune in Los Angeles. Though Lucy and Kit are reluctant to join her, they decide to tag along at the last minute, agreeing to be chauffeured by Mimi's just-out-of-jail friend, Ben (Anson Mount). As they trek across the country, plagued by car problems, unsanitary motels, and petty bickering, the three friends reveal meaningful secrets to each other, and Lucy begins to realize that the handsome, reticent Ben might just be the guy for her.

Very well made thriller.

Similar to Devil's Backbone with that particular Thai approach, Dek hor is a dark and mysterious coming-of-age tale that will haunt you for quite some time.

The friendship causes Kim to sneak out into Bo's bed late at night where a tender and mutual relationship emerges. In an unrelated incident, a student is expelled for displaying pornographic posters and the other students decide to protest and hold a strike. Kim and Bo decide to "come out" to the school and in front of parents and classmates, show a video they made about their relationship that concludes with a long and passionate kissing scene.

Le Clezio, is a gorgeously photographed tear-jerker that hovers on the line between the icky and the profound. At the very least, the movie, which follows the perambulations of a homeless Gypsy boy named Mondo (Ovidiu Balan) through the streets of Nice, France, succeeds in being a ravishing travel brochure for the Mediterranean resort city.
With his trusting brown eyes, tousled hair, and red-hooded sweatshirt, dear little Mondo is the quintessence of ragamuffin adorability drenched in pathos. And when the lost little boy approaches selected strangers and sweetly asks if they would like to adopt him, your heart goes out to him.
On his first night after wandering the streets of Nice, Mondo, whose origins are left unspecified, climbs a tree in an orchard and sleeps until he is awakened by a dogcatcher's truck. Immediately he leaps from his perch and skitters into the darkness like a frightened animal.
For the next week or two, the 10-year-old child roams the city's winding cobblestone streets nimbly foraging for food in outdoor markets, accepting handouts and making friends. Giordan (Maurice Maurin), a kindly fisherman, scratches out the letters of the alphabet on rocks and teaches the illiterate Mondo how to spell his name. Dadi (Jerry Smith), a craggy-faced beggar who carries around a pair of pet doves, tells Mondo stories and introduces him to a street magician (Philippe Petit). In return for collecting coins during outdoor performances, the magician teaches Mondo how to walk a tightwire. After a drenching rainstorm leaves the little waif shivering and feverish, he is sheltered and nursed back to health by Thi-Chin (Pierette Fesch), a wise old Vietnamese woman...

Contemplating the world through Mondo's eyes, the movie finds a shimmering beauty in every raindrop, blade of grass and speck of sand. Even a modern supermarket assumes an aura of magical bounty. Except for one encounter with a predatory man from whom Mondo runs and hides, the little boy brings out the best in people and makes them see the world fresh.
A strange magic seems to follow Mondo. One day while wandering by the rocky shore, he spies a bunch of oranges floating on the water and gathers them up. On their skins are scrawled indecipherable messages in a beautiful hieroglyphic script.
But the idyll doesn't last. Once the authorities catch up with Mondo, the spell is broken, and the Edenic world erupts in a climactic spasm of grief and despair.
Mr. Gatlif, whose film ''Latcho Drom'' presented an extravagantly romantic portrait of Gypsy music and culture, brings the same sensibility to ''Mondo,'' which could be read as a fable about Gypsy mystique in world history. Whatever else it accomplishes, ''Mondo'' visually reminds you of those rare days when the world seems to sparkle as though it were brand new.

The Widow of Saint-Pierre (French: La veuve de Saint-Pierre) is a 2000 film by Patrice Leconte with Juliette Binoche, Daniel Auteuil and Emir Kusturica. The film made its North American debut at the 2000 Toronto Film Festival where it won the Audience Award. It was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2001 for Best Foreign Language Film. The film was also nominated in 2001 for two César Awards.

Synopsis: In 1850, on the isolated French island of Saint-Pierre, a murder shocks the natives. Two fishermen are arrested. One of them, Louis Ollivier, dies in custody. The other, Neel Auguste (Emir Kusturica), is sentenced to death by the guillotine. However the island is so small that it has neither a guillotine nor an executioner. While one is sent for, Auguste is placed under the supervision of army Captain (Daniel Auteuil).
While Auguste is under the captain's care, the wife of the island's police chief, Madame La, (played by Juliette Binoche) takes an interest in the convict and begins to try to redeem him. Under her auspices, Auguste works hard and carries out a number of good deeds for the good of the community. The locals begin to see that he has changed, and Madame La begins a campaign to stop him from being executed.
When the guillotine and executioner finally arrive on the island, Madame La fights the establishment and the law to save Auguste. Her struggle carries possible consequences for her husband, the police chief.

This movie turned out perfect. It had the rich point of view of an indie film, while it had a perfect cast and Hollywood standard of high quality footage. The characters are very believable in this movie, and the brilliant scenes were creating a great atmosphere of a Brooklyn block house and its surrounding. The streets were very alive and I haven't gotten bored for a single moment while watching this movie.
Girls in the flick are beautiful and some even little 'hoochie', which makes them even more hot. Zoe Saldana, the beauty of Dominican origin and Susan Watson really shined in this movie. Also not well known Khalida Outlaw was great and Sara Pickett was a great discovery, which will hopefully be seen a lot in the future.
The story is believed to be based on true characters and events. I don't want to spoil anything, but I can surely tell the movie graduates into very realistic drama events. There were comments like the whole building up characters gets them nowhere in the plot. That's absolutely not true. Each characters have a set of very own approach and perception of the reality that's going on. I recommend this film to anyone, and I'm rating it 8.

reelingreviews: 'Gary "Gal" Dove (Ray Winstone) lives in quiet complacency on the sunny coast of southern Spain. To all appearances, he is a normal middle-aged guy who opted for early retirement. When friends tell him that he is about to have a visit from Don Logan (Ben Kingsley), fear strikes the hearts of all in "Sexy Beast."
One thing that "Sexy Beast" definitely is, is an enigma. It is, as far as I can tell, a one of a kind, dazzlingly colorful gangster film noir. Music video and commercial director Jonathan Glazer does make quite a splash (and not just at the film's funny, offbeat rolling stone opening) with a gangster film that is long on talk and brief, even terse, on caper.
Gal has done time for his gangland deeds and is now blissfully retired to a villa on the Costa del Sol with his mutually adoring wife, Deedee (Amanda Redman). Aside from a near miss by a huge, mysteriously rolling stone, life on the sunny Spanish shoreline could not be better. Until he learns that he is about to have a visit by the sinister Don Logan (Ben Kingsley), a blast from his gangster past. Just when Gal had himself convinced that he was out of the crime game for good, Logan arrives to drag him back in, whether he wants to or not. Gal is convinced that if he tells Don to his face, "I'm not gonna do it," all will be well. But, it won't and the violent, unpredictable Logan will not take "no" for an answer.
This scenario, with snippets of the setup for the upcoming London caper mixed in, takes up the first two-thirds of the film, and precedes the heist itself with a violent confrontation with Don. Gal arrives in London, sans Logan, and wholeheartedly does his bit to pull off the grand theft and take attention away from the missing Don. Crime boss and mastermind of the break-in into an ultra secure vault, Teddy Best (Ian McShane), smells a rat in Gal and does not believe his underling's story on the whereabouts of Logan. After the heist and a pointedly insulting payoff to Gal, the ultra-sinister Teddy promises that he might pay a visit to Gal in Spain, just to see how he's doing. Once in, never out.
Ray Winstone does a fine job as the troubled Gal. The retired criminal's particular talent (though this is not made clear in one of the movie's ambiguities) earned him a good enough living, but after being busted and doing time, he lost his taste for crime, seeking the solitude of Spain to spend his days with Deedee. Ray doesn't have the gonads to stand up to Don and weakens under his violent colleague's constant badgering. Winstone ably displays Gal's tumble into insecurity and fear. Ben Kingsley earns point as a violent, uncontrollable monster.....'

tiscali: "Don (Ben Kingsley) is on his way to Spain to persuade Gal to return and help on a 'job' in London. It is not so much the idea of the job and coming out of retirement that fills Gal with dread - it is the arrival of Don. Very cleverly, the director doesn't explain exactly why Don is such a threat, but the immediate unease among Gal and his mob makes it clear that their lives are about to be turned upside down.
With so much build-up to a character's on-screen arrival, Kingsley has a lot to live up to, but he delivers in spades. His performance should be studied by every aspiring actor. Were it not for the skill of Winstone and his co-stars, Kingsley would simply blow them all off the screen. He is in Spain to get Gal back to London and he is not going to take no for an answer. A truly terrifying creation, Don exudes menace from every pore. Kingsley is simply astonishing: tattooed and shaved, he is taut and wiry and definitely someone you would never wish to cross. Or, for that matter, meet. He is a psychological bully who threatens to explode into violence at any moment....."

Samurai 7 (サムライセブン, Samurai Sebun) is a 2004 Japanese anime series based on Akira Kurosawa's highly regarded 1954 movie "Seven Samurai."

Samurai 7 tells the story of a rice village, Kanna. Every year during the harvest a group of bandits come and steal away almost all of the rice that had been harvested that year. Not only that, the bandits are becoming more demanding, now taking women and children in addition to rice.

The elder of Kanna Village has decided that to protect the village they must hire samurai to fight against the bandits. However, the village has no money and thus must find samurai willing to protect the village for a payment of rice. Three members of the village leave to attempt to recruit samurai. They travel to the city and search for samurai willing to work, and after finding several samurai and having a few encounters with the local government they return to Kanna village to prepare defenses against the bandits.

The samurai train the villagers in the use of bows, building walls, and construct a giant ballista to defend the village against the bandits. After successfully defeating the bandits, the samurai then launch an attack upon the capital to defeat a power hungry ruler who has recently risen to power as Emperor.

Shimada Kambei (カンベエ) is a wise samurai who has survived many battles, though he feels no joy from them. Many of his friends have died in those battles. He constantly lives in the shadow of his painful and violent past, rejecting Kirara after stating that his heart is dried up. He leads the group during their battles and usually plans strategy. Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma (Japanese)

Katsushiro Okamoto (カツシロウ) is a young and inexperienced samurai who wishes to be Kambei's student, calling him sensei almost from their first meeting. He idolizes the principles of bushido. He promises to protect Kirara no matter what, and seems to be attracted to her. He grows stronger and more skillful throughout the series, eventually becoming a worthy student of Kambei; and he also comes to terms with killing enemies, after reacting in shock the first time. Gorobei Katayama (ゴロベエ) is a skilled samurai who has made his living since the wars' end by entertaining people on the city streets. He is also a veteran of the Great War, so he knows Kambei by reputation. He is very skilled at dodging blows and can pluck arrows and darts from the air. He often makes light of rather serious or dangerous situations. He is also quite smart, in his own unique way. He is the first to be killed. To him, all the world was a stage and the people, merely players. He will be well remembered after his curtain call. Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese)

Hayashida Heihachi (ヘイハチ) is a genial samurai who wishes to avoid fighting as much as possible and prefers to eat rice instead. During the Great War, he took a position as a combat engineer, which kept him off the front lines but also used his mechanical skills. He is discovered chopping wood in exchange for food or devices that interest him. He is most helpful within the group as their mechanic, and orchestrates the construction of medieval-type weapons. However, he harbors a deep hatred for traitors as he was one himself, which resulted in his whole unit being killed. He is crushed by a huge iron bar. Before dying, he shouts out: "I'll be in the rice" or "Find me in the rice". Within the series, he talks about the old tradition of the "seven rice kami" inside every grain of rice. Voiced by: Junji Inukai (Japanese)

Rikichi (リキチ) is a peasant of Kanna, who travels with Kirara to locate the samurai. He can be often rash because of his hatred for the Nobuseri (bandits). He blames himself for the loss of his wife, Sanae, who has given herself up to the bandits to save the village. Kambei promises to rescue Sanae, and Rikichi is eventually reunited with her. Voiced by: Tadahisa Saizen (Japanese)

Kirara (キララ) is a mikumari (water maiden, a village priestess) of Kanna. She decides to go to help find the samurai to bring back to her village, and she admits that she also wanted to see something of the outside world. She possesses a dowsing crystal on a necklace which allows her to detect the flow of groundwater and to read others' hearts. She falls in love with Kambei, though he rejects her. Voiced by: Fumiko Orikasa (Japanese)
