It was filmed in several locations, among them Germany and France, beginning in October 2008. The film, set in German-occupied France, tells the story of two plots to assassinate the Nazi political leadership, one planned by a young French Jewish cinema proprietress, the other by a team of American soldiers called the "Basterds."
Tarantino has said that despite it being a war film, Inglourious Basterds is a "spaghetti western but with World War II iconography." In addition to spaghetti westerns, the film also pays homage to the World War II "macaroni combat" sub-genre (itself heavily influenced by spaghetti-westerns). Inglourious Basterds was accepted into the main selection at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in competition for the prestigious Palme d'Or and had its world premiere there in May. It was the only U.S. film to win an award at Cannes that year, earning a Best Actor award for Christoph Waltz.

IMDB

Synopsis: In Nazi occupied France, young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the "Basterds", a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.

The files have been split with WinRar, no password.

Rapidshare.com links:
http://rapidshare.com/files/310028158/IngBas.part01.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310171994/IngBas.part02.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310171971/IngBas.part03.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310050526/IngBas.part04.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310172130/IngBas.part05.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310120308/IngBas.part06.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310145126/IngBas.part07.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310257214/IngBas.part08.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310303004/IngBas.part09.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310313038/IngBas.part10.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310324963/IngBas.part11.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310335809/IngBas.part12.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310337187/IngBas.part13.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310350903/IngBas.part14.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310359427/IngBas.part15.rar

It was directed and written by Rolf de Heer. It is a set in 1922 in outback Australia where a racist white colonial policeman (Gary Sweet) used the tracking ability of an Indigenous Australian tracker (David Gulpilil) to find the murderer of a white woman. The tagline is: "All men choose the path they walk.'
The film was shot in the Arkaroola Sanctuary, in South Australia's Flinders Ranges. De Heer used an intentionally small film crew, saying that “It's all a much better process ...” The film is intercut with paintings by Peter Coad which portray actions not shown, while the lyrics of the soundtrack (written by De Heer) also form part of the narrative

IMDB

Synopsis: The film is set in the early 20th century Australian outback, where four men are following an Aboriginal man who has been accused of murder. The characters in the film are referred to by their characters rather than by names, they are: The Tracker (David Gulpilil), The Fanatic (Gary Sweet), The Follower (Damon Gameau), The Veteran (Grant Page) and The Fugitive (Noel Wilton).

Awards: 2002 - Australian Film Institute Awards, Best Actor in a leading role (David Gulpilil); 2002 - Australian Writers Guild, AWGIE award (Rolf de Heer).

The files have been split with WinRar, no password.

Rapidshare.com links:
http://rapidshare.com/files/309929366/The_Tracker.part01.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309948550/The_Tracker.part02.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309956953/The_Tracker.part03.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309958826/The_Tracker.part04.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309969795/The_Tracker.part05.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309977833/The_Tracker.part06.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/309995490/The_Tracker.part07.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310227964/The_Tracker.part08.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310242837/The_Tracker.part09.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310255512/The_Tracker.part10.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/310255515/The_Tracker.part11.rar

<span style="font-weight: bold; Cho Seung Woo (Marathon, The Classic) and Gang Hye Jung (Welcome to Dongmakgol, Oldboy) star in this curious romantic drama that spans decades. One sunny day, a young boy named Jo Kang meets a curious young girl, dressed in a bright yellow raincoat. Jo Kang instantly becomes friends with Ari, and falls instantly in love with the beautiful but rather strange young girl - only for her to one day disappear! The story jumps to ten years later, and Jo Kang is now in high school. One day, completely out of the blue, Ari contacts him and asks to meet again. Although they have not seen each other in a decade, they have a wonderful time together, and the love between them begins to grow once more. But then, Ari disappears once more, leaving Jo Kang devastated. Can Jo Kang track down his true love? Will he ever discover why Ari keeps disappearing? Will he be able to do anything about it? All will be revealed in the tender story of Love Phobia.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074177/

This is Satyajit Ray's magnificent documentary on T Balaswaraswati (1918-1984), the legendary Bharatanatyam Dancer. Made in 1976, when Bala was 59, the documentary traces the biography of Bala, but above all concentrates on her dance and gives us a truly unforgettable glimpse into the art of one of the greatest geniuses from India.

Comments/Review:

Dr. Narayana Menon called her the greatest dancer India has produced in a thousand years. T Balaswaraswati or Bala as she was commonly known, was not just a great dancer. She dominated the field for a generation, enriching the existing tradition, providing a corrective to current practices and setting standards for generations to follow. If Classical Western Ballet had a Anna Pavlova or a Vaslav Nijnsky, Bharatanatyam had Bala. Critics raved over her performances, describing the fluidity of her movements, the maginificence of
her Abhinaya (or mime). One went so far as to say that to see Bala dance was to touch divinity.

Only a great master could capture such divinity. Satyajit Ray's tribute to Bala does not use any extraordinary cinematographic techniques. The greatness lies in the simplicity of his treatment. He just lets Bala's dance speak for itself. And do remember you are seeing the dancer when she was 59. Imagine for yourself what she must have been in her prime.

So just sit back and let Bala's magic engulf you. Therein also lies the magic of Satyajit Ray.

Notes:

This very rare Documentary is not commercially available. Its rarely screened or broadcast these days and was taped on VHS during one such analog broadcast. I have cleaned up the video, removed two very large and extremely disturbing logos and re-encoded.

The source being what it is, the video leaves much to be desired. It has a profusion of jaggies, other artifacts, screen noise etc. But, despite all its faults, it brings back Bala to us.
Harsh realism and pure magic go hand in hand in this moving story about love, abandonment and alcohol. 7-year old Ida, a brave little girl, has to take care of her kid brother Skrubsak, feed the family and keep the child welfare officers at stake. Ida's father has left the family for another woman, and so far Mum has found consolation in the bottle.(IMDB)

Presumably inspired by Pete Walker's 4 Dimensions of Greta this is another 1970s sex comedy filmed in 3D. Walter Boos however went all the way - we do not have just the odd 3D boob scene, the whole film is made in 3D. The viewer is constantly reminded of that, because the cinematography is truly bizarre with plenty of scenes of rather peculiar camera angles that strongly emphasize the 3D effects, e.g. a girl on a swing moving towards (and above) the camera, twigs hitting a car window, and many many more. The exaggeration of 3D makes these scenes quite funny, as the effects are completely over the top.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1037850/

While Jay Chou no doubt holds court in today's Mando-pop scene, he gets no love from the movie-goers who snigger at his expressionless performance in Zhang Yimou's Curse of the Golden Flower. It indeed is quite brave of him (though it's arguable to strike while the iron is hot) to diversify and have a hand in directing so early in his cinematic career, and coming up with quite an interesting, engaging story, though like any creative work, his story did make him seem quite intelligent, in spite of his usual laid-back demeanour.

Jay stars as Jay (yeah, bring back those lazy Hong Kong production days where characters share the actor's first names, because they were working on so many movies simultaneously, it's hard to keep track, so why not name the characters after yourself!), a new student in Tamkang Secondary School. He follows a mysterious piano tune and meets with Rain (Kwai Lun-Mei), a fellow student with whom he starts to spend many lovey-dovey moments with. It's essentially a romance story for dating couples to catch, and it will be a definite test of anyone's cloy-tolerance, given that the lovebirds share so much saccharine sweet dialogue and behaviour, those with lesser tolerance will have goosebumps all the way.

And for the romantic movie fans, it's time to revisit some of the cliché plot elements like the bicycle ride - who can resist a bicycle ride! - lovely scene setting landscape shots, idle banter, close contacts, dance, kisses, the "third party" Sky (whom I think is more attractive than Kwai, thus providing that additional tension), the list just goes on. Jay has mentioned parts of the story was really based on his own experiences, it is indeed interesting to try and find out just which are. Being a piano student, the movie too was a showcase piece for his musical talents and prowess on the piano, coupled with computer generated graphics which enhanced certain scenes for dramatic effect with great aplomb.

Those who think that Jay Chou can't act will want to rethink that again. Given Initial D was pop, and that Curse was action, Secret was a perfect dramatic platform for him to do a little more emoting, even though he can't seem to shake off his signature drawl. And of course some help to make him look good came from thespian Anthony Wong, who had also played his cinematic dad (of similar interest / capability) in Initial D, as he again does in Secret. Here, their father and son characters play off each other a little more in some endearing, comical moments, and naturally, Wong seemed a more believable father figure than Chow Yun-Fat for Jay Chou.

The strength of the movie however laid in its story. I shall keep it a secret just exactly what it was, and all I can say is it is similar in nature to some of my favourite movies in the past, thus I had taken a natural liking for Secret as well. However, while you think you might have it all planned out how the story will unfold, Jay Chou actually had an added punch to keep it a little bit fresh, and in doing so, raises it to a slightly different level as well, with a fairly intense climax that will have you rooting for a desirable outcome, no less. What worked against it though, would be the verbatim nature in which the story was explained, making it a little draggy and at times, repetitive, instead of allowing the audience to put the pieces together.

Jay Chou as story writer (he had someone to script it for him), actor, director and composer, Secret turned out to be a surprisingly commendable, co mmendable effort. If this is any indication of what's to come from this talented dude, then I'll be more than happy to be a fan convert, for his cinematic efforts at least. Recommended date movie of the week, remember to bring out those tissues as well! I won't be surprised if this movie will work its magic into my top ten list for the year.
"Kamikaze Hearts" provocatively depicts a relationship between two lesbian lovers, both performers in porn films and both intravenous drug users.

Juliet Bashore's gritty, grimy film about the porn industry and the status of women within it continually throws the audience up against problems of interpretation: sometimes the camera is a coolly discriminating, independent viewpoint, sometimes a goggling, peeping eye. The peg the film hangs on is the relationship between lithe, gorgeous porn star Sharon Mitchell and doggedly devoted Tigr, her lover and director; the viewer's sympathy switches nervously back and forth between the two women. Mitch is a shameless camera-hog, rabbiting on about joy and fulfilment through porn; Tigr is superficially less flaky, but collapses dramatically in the harrowing last scene. There are moments of humour, and the glimpses of the porn movie set enthral; but the film belongs to the frighteningly blank Mitch, who has clearly been turned inside out and torn in the process. A tough cookie who's also a figure of supreme availability, she embodies the contradictions explored in the film.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067656/

hough most do not watch Mario Bava films for their tightly constructed plots, this film still provided much of the inspiration for the first two FRIDAY THE 13TH films, as well as some of the actual scenes. The plot hinges on a bunch of murderous relatives who are all competing to inherit the estate of the matron of the family, which is mainly the bayside resort at which they are staying. However, a gaggle of teens show up and see a bit too much and, well, it becomes the BAY OF BLOOD...

No other film in history starts out with a fly committing suicide, and it just lets you know that anything and everything can die in what's to come. An audacious return to horror for director Bava which still features some of the most gratuitous exploitation and violence of any film. A genuine nasty streak runs throughout this film and so does some humor. A potential problem is that virtually all the characters are so repellent it's hard to stay interested in what's going on, and you wouldn't if what happened wasn't so unexpected or violent. Only the oddest characters generate any sympathy. A film that is hard to dismiss and hard to embrace, it's far more interesting than all the films that ripped it off and there are plenty. It's a film with the director thumbing his nose, or flipping off, the audience and what they may expect and that's to be admired and resented at times too. A must see for any horror fan. Decide for yourself, but there are certainly things here you won't expect or forget no matter how many times you see it.

Little known Australian gem that takes the old 'girl stalked by psycho' theme and gives it a fun twist with some astute social commentary. A highly intellectual, educated women suddenly finds herself being manipulated by a slovenly, low class plumber. She is an expert at primitive cultures, yet is unable to deal with her own 'civilized' culture. As he tears away at her bathroom, he also tears away at the line that seperates the classes. Playfully pokes at everything from how much control one really has on their enviroment, to how vulnerable we ALL are and how no one is really that far removed or 'above' anyone else. Also aptly displays how our social mores, customs, and status are only their as long as everyone respects them. Yet the best thing about this sleeper is how everyone, including her friends and husband, are so caught up in their own little worlds that they cannot fully fathom the extent of her fear. Bringing to light the old adage of us all having our own 'private hell'.

"The Plumber" was filmed in Adelaide and originally received limited theatrical release. It was not until it was shown on television however that the "legend" of this great little movie was founded and its popularity mushroomed.

Not to be missed under any circumstances.
Jean-Pierre Gorin

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066532/
n Godard and Gorin's free interpretation of the Chicago Eight trial, Judge Hoffman becomes Judge Himmler (who doodles notes on Playboy centerfolds), the Chicago Eight become microcosms of French revolutionary society, and Godard and Gorin play Lenin and Karl Rosa, respectively, discussing politics and how to show them through the cinema.

"Vladimir and Rosa" frequently cuts away from the trial for lettle lectures on the meaning of conspiracy, for dialogues between a pretty feminist and her lover, who, radical though he is, can't help but being a bit of a male chauvinist, and between Godard and his filmmaking partner, Jean-Pierre Gorin, on the problems of translating revolutionary theory into revolutionary film.

One of these takes place on a tennis court, with the dead-panned Godard and Gorin pacing along the net as a hot game of doubles goes smashing back and forth over their heads. In spite or himself, apparently, Godard cannot resist a comic image, even one at the expense of his own politically grave image.

Such moments evoke the earlier Godard films, even though distantly. The manner in which the Chicago trial is parodied is bitter, but the playing is exuberant and energetic, as childlike as the fantasies once enacted for Godard by Belmondo, Brialy, Karina and their friends.

The title is in reference to Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov (Lenin) (1870-1924) and Rosa Luxemburg (1870-1919), a leading German Marxist, to whom Godard and Gorin liken themselves, as theoreticians suddenly confronted with the opportunity to practice what they preach. Like all Godard titles, it has the proper touch of poetry.

Director: Michael Winterbottom

In adapting Thomas Hardy's "Jude the Obscure," the screenwriter, Hossein Amini, and the director, Michael Winterbottom, have dropped the obscurity from the title, but the Jude who remains (played by Christopher Eccleston) still looks as dour and defeated as any reader of Hardy could wish. The movie is in fact remarkably true to the darkness and chafing disgust of the novel, and that fidelity is where the problem lies. Jude, the stonemason who dreams of becoming a scholar, is mired in failure from the start; even as you respect the picture for its earth-toned palette and its bestial pain, you know that any dramatic momentum will lead nowhere. As a result, the bond of love between Jude and Sue (Kate Winslet) seems more like an endurance trial, or the difficult rapport of a brother and sister. She chatters and smokes as if she were a free spirit of the nineteen-twenties; he looks trapped in the old century. There is much to admire here, almost nothing to enjoy. But the picture needs to be seen, not least for the skill with which Winterbottom frames the swift, unmitigated horror of the climax.

One of the most politically incorrect films of all time, Pretty Maids All In a Row is easily Roger Vadim's most audacious film. Scripted by Gene Roddenberry, it focuses on the strange happenings taking place at an upmarket California high school.

Someone is killing the nubile students of an otherwise picture-perfect high school. A cynical detective visits the building to find out who's committing the murders. He and his dim partner interrogate the students and staff, including a fidgety principal. They also encounter two faculty members -- ~censored~ guidance counselor Tiger and horny teacher Miss Smith -- who have been saving "personal time" for their students. Meanwhile, Miss Smith discovers she has in her class a shy teen afraid of his burgeoning manhood. So she plans to keep him after class to help him overcome his timidity.

From the back cover of the DVD:
Shaved Heads, Nose Rings, Frightful Tattoos, and a look in their eyes of cold raw evil. These are the Skinheads. With no respect for human life (or each other) they track down any who offend them. Willie, a black twelve year old who is witness to their ruthless robbery and beatings, summons a street gang of tough young blacks. In a mountain cafe miles from the nearest town, the two gangs meet up and the bloodshed begins. Tiny and Paul are shot and Carla, their friend, is crushed to death by Brains, the big Skinhead Simpleton. The gripping final battle forces the young heroes to use all their wits and guile to survive the onslaught of Damon and his deadly crew of Skinheads.

And according to one IMDB reviewer: "The Second Coming of Hate features what is probably Chuck Connors' finest performance. Connors was an American treasure and without a doubt the greatest film actor this nation has ever produced. To say that this film contains his finest performance is to say that this film contains what may very well be the greatest acting tour de force ever caught upon film. It is a modern tragedy that Skinheads: The Second Coming of Hate is rarely, if ever, mentioned as one of the great films of the 1980s, let alone one of the great American films of all times."

Shockingly politically incorrect to modern audiences perhaps, the TV series ran to more than 50 episodes. This feature-length outing for the bickering black vs white neighbours illustrates our own levels of bigotry and intolerance, but here shrouded in shameless humour. When a West Indian family move next door to a white family, the racist husbands behave like ignorant school children while the wives manage to get along in spite of their spouses prejudiced antics.

Unless you've been hanging out on the art-house circuit, Bodysong is unlike most any movie you've seen before. Not exactly a documentary, and certainly not a scientific undertaking, this wordless collage of moving pictures and music tells the story of human life from the womb to the tomb, but that barely begins to characterize a work that effectively defies description. In his first feature effort, director Simon Pummell (an appropriate name, considering the relentless onslaught of images he presents) has assembled a huge array of film clips of various origins, ages (some are up to 100 years old, but few are recent), and quality (lots of black & white, many home movies, and plenty of obscure, grainy footage of unknown provenance) showing people doing what they do: being conceived, then born, and then growing up, eating, having sex, worshipping, senselessly killing one another, creating, living, dying.

It's not always easy on the eyes; the extended sequence of newborns emerging from their mothers' wombs is an astonishing piece of filmmaking, lurid, graphic (as is a good deal of this uncensored film), definitely not for the squeamish, but wonderfully joyful as well. The score, by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, is often quite effective, although its dissonant and bathetic elements tend to grate upon prolonged exposure. But then, that's no doubt the point. Bodysong, which Pummell also developed as a website and a gallery installation, is clearly not intended to make anyone feel comfortable.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098575/

Meticulous retelling—the third on film—of the sexual shenanigans of 18th-century French aristocrats (Firth and Bening). Set in Baroque France, a scheming widow and her lover make a bet regarding the corruption of a recently married woman. The lover, Valmont, bets that he can seduce her, even though she is an honorable woman. If he wins, he can have his lover to do as he will. However, in the process of seducing the married woman, Valmont falls in love. Based on the same novel as DANGEROUS LIAISONS. Youthful cast makes this seem more mischievous than other versions, but that very playfulness also softens some of its bite. Elderly Drake, who died shortly after film's release, steals every scene she's in.

If DANGEROUS LIAISONS was a movie to stimulate the mind, VALMONT is more compelling for the emotions. I admired the earlier movie, but I watched it as if I were watching creatures in a human zoo, observing their behavior with my own detached amusement. In VALMONT, I found myself falling into the same trap that de Laclos set for his characters--I found myself beginning to care about these people. I even wanted them to be happy, which was more than they wanted for each other. The frightening thing about the film is that at the end, after all the hearts have been broken and all the cynical compromises have been made, I could see how many of these characters would be able to make their adjustments and be happy, even surrounded by the wreckage of their ideals. It is always a little disturbing to see people sell out at a profit. Maybe that's what the film wants us to discover.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0347618/

The cat returns is a brilliant and funny depiction of how helping a cat can seriously backfire. Like most Japanese animation, this film avoids the cliches and familiar storylines we are used to from Hollywood, and comes up with something very entertaining and original. Unlike Miyazaki's films, there is no really serious message here, apart from believe in yourself and get up nice and early in the morning - oh, and for best results, always mix your own blend of tea. Thinking about it, those messages could be quite serious for some.

The cats in the film are most definitely cats, not human characters in cat-form, and are all the better for it. The film is really a comedy about how cats don't understand people. Unusually it is the cat kingdom that's flawed rather than the human world. In this film, going away to a fantasy world is not the answer. You need to snap out of it and start living your life. Well, you're allowed a bit of day-dreaming, just not too much OK?

With beautiful animation, appealing character design and a wonderfully fitting score, Neko no Ongaeshi is now amongst my favorite animated pieces. For anime buffs, animated film buffs, ANYONE - I can't recommend this highly enough.
Pia Zadora makes a stunning debut in this hot-blooded thriller of forbidden love, murder, and revenge. Pouty and irresistible, she plays the part of naughty Kady, who makes a surprise visit to her long-lost father, Jess (Stacy Keach), by dropping in at the deserted silver mine he is caretaking. Provocative and lustful, she teases him until both give way to temptation. Together in sin, Kady and Jess dream of wealth as they mine for silver, but vultures with dreams of their own lurk in the background, watching their every move.

Bleak Moments is Mike Leigh's first feature film, a haunting and disturbing study of a young woman's isolation in the late 1960's. Sylvia leads a very quiet life caring for her mentally ill sister Hilda but both the sister's urgent longing for companions is left thwarted as they are unable to interact with other people socially.

BLEAK MOMENTS provides a glimpse into the life of several seemingly insignificant London residents. Sylvia (Anne Raitt) is a secretary who spends her evenings drinking sherry and taking care of her mentally disabled sister, Hilda (Sarah Stephenson). Lonely for some male company, she begins to see Peter (Eric Allan), an uptight schoolteacher. That's when Norman (Mike Bradwell) appears. Norman is a guitar-playing hippie who has rented out Sylvia's garage for a place to make copies of a magazine. Hilda loves listening to Norman play his guitar, and eventually Sylvia invites him inside for coffee and a chat. One night Peter and Sylvia go out to eat at a Chinese restaurant, while Sylvia's co-worker Pat (Joolia Cappleman) cares for Hilda. Upon returning home and drinking more sherry, Sylvia makes a pass at Peter, who shyly declines her offer. When Norman decides to leave the garage for good, Sylvia and Hilda are left alone once again, to combat the boredom and mundanity of their lives. Leigh's early made-for-television drama captures daily existence in a way that most filmmakers do not. He allows situations to unfold on their own terms, without forcing them as a writer, creating an intimate, bittersweet drama.

The grandson of Victor Frankenstein is a teaching surgeon who has spent his life living down the legend of his grandfather, even changing the pronunciation of his name. When the diary of his grandfather is brought to him, he takes a leave of absence to examine the family castle. Then things get a little silly. Due to a switch, he implants an abnormal brain in his creation which causes problems, but things really get out of hand when the young Frankenstein's bride to be shows up at the castle. The whole film is shot in Black and white to simulate the old monster movie feeling.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066040/

Inspired by the same events which were eventually treated directly in Peter Jackson's HEAVENLY CREATURES (1994), the film is a perverse little item with rampant anti-Catholicism at its fore and which, unsurprisingly, was banned when it emerged; with this in mind, I love the way Mondo Macabro ended their description of it on the back cover: "It's a film that should be viewed only by those with very open minds"! Concerning two teenage girls' rebellion against their repressed upbringing by making a Satanic pact, in which they dedicate their lives to committing evil, it reminded me of other notorious "Chick Flicks" from the same era such as ALUCARDA (1975) and TO BE TWENTY (1978). The film doesn't have much of a plot and is deliberately paced, but it's held firmly together by the deliciously malevolent performances of the two leads (and particularly the untrained Jeanne Goupil, from whose viewpoint the events are related, and who subsequently hitched up with first-time director and former actor Seria!).

It seems to me that the reason the film is so obscure is that, when new, it was ahead of its time but, even now, it would be almost impossible to make (despite the ostensibly graphic nature of French cinema today) - featuring any number of shocking and potentially offensive images, which I won't spoil here for the uninitiated! Still, I have to mention the incredible finale, set inside a crowded school auditorium, which is sparked {sic} by the two girls' recital on stage of a strange poem by Baudelaire. The simple yet haunting music - performed on the organ or as a cantata - is highly effective, and the DVD extras (featuring, among others, separate interviews with Seria and Goupil) complement the film very nicely indeed.
The first snows have fallen over Seoul. Lee Mun-ho, a young Art professor, is catching up with his friend Kim Hyeon-gon, a penniless film-maker who has just returned from the United States. They start off in search of a memory: Sunhwa, a young girl they were both in love with a few years earlier...
The plot revolves loosely around two old friends: Lee Mun-ho, a university art teacher and Kim Hyeon-gon, a graduate from an American film school who has recently returned to his home country. While having dinner in a restaurant, Kim convinces Lee to arrange a meeting between them and Kim's old girlfriend Park Seon-hwa. Unbeknownst to Kim, however, Lee had become involved in a relationship with her after Kim's departure to the United States. The three later on get together for a night of drinking...
The title of the film is a translation of a line from a poem by French writer Louis Aragon that the director saw printed on a French postcard.
