Lulu's Fun Paddle /race

2012-09-13T02:06:00.000-04:00

Very doubtful this was ever gonna be a race but it was alot of fun for all at the boathouse here in Myrtle Beach. Drew Brophy is here doing a mural for Lulu's Cafe who also own the Boathouse on the waterway. He gave a informal talk about SUP's on different settings other than riding waves. Like going down the Snake or Colorado rivers. Got everyone amped up and the paddle began. Ryan from Surf City Surf Shop actually won but everyone had a blast seeing parts of the waterway they usually don't get to. enjoy.......

Drew's mural getting done

2012-09-12T12:46:00.001-04:00

So Drew took some much needed time off to recharge and should be finishing up today. It has been really cool to see this thing go from a blank wall to this huge mural!! You can check out Drew's site here for more info about his adventures and projects..... http://drewbrophy.com/

Also digitel myrtle beach has a nice video of him including a time lapse of the mural process here drew's mural the digitel myrtle beach

He's had local media coverage throughout the process and nice write ups in both the Sun News and an upcoming Myrtle Beach Herald. Nice to see an artist getting coverage of something they love to do!! enjoy.......

Lulu's mural getting close

2012-09-06T22:01:00.000-04:00

I've been working on some other things this week and haven't been shooting Drew and his work on the mural for a couple of days. He's going at it and creating an amazing piece for all of us here Myrtle to enjoy!!! Busy at work adding more detail to the mural he and his apprentice, Ian Orsos, are hard at it. He'll be finishing the piece up these next few days and as he puts it "going surfing". Hopefully I'll get some shots of him in the water. We'll see, maybe Sunday. enjoy........

Weekend at Lulu's

2012-09-03T11:47:00.000-04:00

I've spent the last few days with Drew Brophy while he's been working on a 60ft. mural for Lulu's Cafe here in Myrtle. It has been amazing to see this blank wall change into a bright colored peice of surf art!! His family has been there every step of the way giving him support and water through the hot days. No hiding from the sun when you're painting. All his old friends have been stopping by for support and amazment over the sheer size and cool design!! I had the opportunity to grow up here at the beach with Drew and all our cove kooks and it's been great to see all come out for this. The past two days Drew has taken on some assistance with work in the hands of Ian Orsos, a great kid and aspiring artist himself!! Drew will be doing alot of detail work all this coming week to finish up by or on Saturday. Keep checking back for more on the mural as the week goes along, of course unless you're in the water for the swell we should be getting this. I know Drew will be hitting the water too!! I'll have a slideshow of the weekend coming in the days ahead. Lulu's Mural enjoy........

Drew's sketching out the mural

2012-08-30T20:05:00.000-04:00

Day 2 of Drew Brophy's mural. He's going strong with work on the major figures in the mural by sketching them out on the 60 foot wall. It is wild to see this blank wall being transformed into a work of art!!! If you have the opportunity over the weekend swing by Lulu's Diner to catch this process. Very cool!! enjoy.......

Drew's mural

2012-08-29T15:37:00.003-04:00

Hi again,
Getting the opportunity for the next few days to shoot an artist in action!! Drew Brophy grew up here in M.B. and renowned as an great surf artist. His work can be found all over the world and on thousands of surfboards, skateboards and all kinds of other cool stuff. He's here on a working vacation visiting his family. Commissioned by Lulu's Diner on Ocean Blvd. just past 21st Ave., he's creating a 60 foot mural that will encompass all kinds of beachy stuff but in his own cool style. I myself love getting to see the whole process from the gridlines to final paint details come to fruition. Plus Drew is a pretty cool cat that I admire. Below is a few from today with Drew, his Dad Tom, son Dylan, and wife Maria all getting in on the action. enjoy........

pepper's for Dad

2012-08-24T10:30:00.000-04:00

In the past I've done some pics of pepper's and such. My Dad loves one reverse b/w I did a few years back. He's always asking me if I've done more of them. The surf pics don't usually look to good this way, hah! It's been raining here for what seems forty days and nights now and I had to get out in the weather just to see if my camera still worked. Who knows, maybe Dad will get some more reverse peppers sometime this year!!!! enjoy..........

maybe some swellage

2012-08-23T22:24:00.000-04:00

So the summer has been pretty worse than usual for the Carolina's but we are seeing some storms forming in the Atlantic and off Africa. Maybe we'll have a nice hurricane season with plenty o' swell and no damage to the mainland. Keep your eyes on the forecasts and I'll keep posting some pics.
enjoy..........

the Olympics

2012-08-13T04:28:00.001-04:00

I love this time of the year. All though it's only every four years that I get to see and share with all of you. Of course I'm talking 'bout the 'lympics. How often do you see guys and girls from all walks of life, that have given so much of their personal and or professional life to compete for their country. As almost all are amatuer. I mean really, how many of us are really committed to a sport or talented enough to be selected and still feel the need to represent those you live with on such a scale. Some friends of mine and I could not imagine being the only person representing your country. We watched these games with first a little dismay, but were drawn in each day as the drama, excitement, and hope ensued. I love the games of the Olympics. They make strive for more from myself. They make see the better in all of you. Through the sportmanship, the shear desire to see all succeed!!!

da Boys are back from Cali

2012-07-16T10:53:00.001-04:00

da Boys from Surf City have been out west in Cali for the nationals and NSSA contests the past month. They came back to some pretty flat waters here, but suddenly we've had a morning swell in the waist high range!!! My foots getting better but I'm still apprehensive about getting out on the log. Soon I'm sure!!! I met the guys down at 65th this morning and got some great shots and am getting some footage together for a video too!! enjoy.........

feeling Minnesota

2012-06-21T22:57:00.002-04:00

I've been out of town for a while. Minnesota was my destination; and I had never been to the land of 10,000 lakes before. Well, there was the Dead spring tour of 1989, but there's not much memory of that. Ha! So anyway, like I said this was a new trip for me and it was really cool! Lots o' lakes, a pretty hip city in Minneapolis, and peoples I like to call family!!!! Just some cool stuff!!!! enjoy........

memorial day surf

2012-05-28T14:49:00.004-04:00

I managed to get down to the beach before all the crowds. Plopped myself down right on the steps of the access and shot a few of the boys slipping and sliding through the sloppy little swell we have left over from Beryl. Maybe later this week we'll have some cleaner stuff to ride. enjoy.......

Memorial on 65th

2012-05-26T16:17:00.001-04:00

I've finally got out with my broke foot and took some shots of da boys in the water. Won't know anything more about my foot til Tuesday when I see my orthopedic. Hopefully I've been doing all the right things and can get this soft cast traded for something a little mo' betta!!

cya soon! enjoy...........
