This competition celebrates the best-of-the-best New Zealand ham which is all PigCare Accredited. It also helps you identify our wonderful local ham from imported product and is only open to New Zealand butchers using 100% New Zealand pork. So look for the 100% New Zealand Pork or Ham rosette label or the 2011 Ham of the Year award labels on pack to ensure you’re choosing a local New Zealand ham this Christmas.
Tortillas and Salsa Variations
28 Nov 2011Tortillas are great to have on hand in the pantry and can be wrapped around a variety of fillings. Vary the salsa filling by adding chopped red capsicum or add a little chopped paw paw or melon in place of the tomatoes.

English Eton Mess

The Festival, now in its 18th year, provides essential support for The Salvation Army, stocking up its food banks and assisting The Sallies to help those in need around New Zealand. On 9 November, New Zealanders can swap a can of food for a movie ticket at participating cinemas. Wattie’s then matches this donation with a can of their own. The right potatoes for a potato salad
25 Oct 2011Make sure you select the right potato for the cooking method being used. Waxy potatoes are great for boiling or steaming as they don’t release as much starch as floury potatoes and stay firm when cooked. Waxy potato varieties include Nadine, Jersey Benne, Red King Edward and Perlas.
