From nurturing a baby in her womb for nine months, to being the best friend and most caring person that anyone can have, a mother’s unconditional love is beyond compare. This May 12, take the time to show the most special woman in your life just how much she means to you. Here are simple suggestions to make it one of the best Mother’s Day celebration yet for the queen of the house:

Surprise her with a special talent show. Gather the whole family and prepare a special performance for mom. Practice with your little brothers and sisters, and put together a short play based on her favorite book. Ask kuya to play her favorite song on the guitar, while dad serenades and dances with her.

Create a special AVP tribute for mom. Produce a home-made video with each family member’s personal message, or create a slideshow of your favorite family bonding moments to the tune of her favorite songs – a truly fitting tribute to show how much you truly love and appreciate her.

Treat her to a refreshing getaway. Bring mom to her favorite place – whether it be in a beach resort, her favorite spa or salon, or a shopping spree. A worry-free day will surely make any mother feel extra special.

Savor another family bonding moment with her favorite. For mommy, there’s nothing like spending a day bonding with the family. Be it simply watching movies at home, going on a picnic, or a short road trip to visit the places special to her. To make the celebration more special, treat mom to everyone’s favorite Chickenjoy! Because the best mom in the world deserves nothing less than the pinaka-crispylicious and pinaka-juicylicious Jollibee Chickenjoy!

Show mom your unparalleled love for her and treat her to the undeniable goodness of the best fried chicken, Jollibee Chickenjoy! Available for dine-in, take-out, delivery and drive-thru. For delivery, call the Jollibee Express Delivery Service hotline at 8-7000 or log on to www.jollibeedelivery.com.

For those in charge of the kitchen, here are the top things that should be always present in your pantry. These should always never ran out of your area.

Rice – When you have rice, rest assured you won’t go hungry. People sometimes just drizzle it with oil and soy sauce or pour chocolate drink (like what my family does)

Butter – This gives taste to everything. It will also give your soup and other viands that oh so creamy texture that everyone loves

Eggs – I always find eggs very handy. Whenever I feel lazy to cook a meal, I just beat a couple of these for dinner and match it with Mang Tomas sarsa. So quick and easy. Yum! You can also make desserts out of these babies

Salt – Like butter, this gives taste to almost everything you cook. Sure it is a kitchen must-have.

Garlic, Onion and Ginger – These 3 should never ran out of your kitchen stash. You’ll find it helpful whenever you saute or do some quick cooking

How do you satisfy consumers in a highly discriminating industry such as food?

Just ensure safety and quality, which also includes taste, at all times from the sourcing of raw materials to testing, processing, packaging and transport until it reaches consumers’ dining table.

And this is what Mekeni Food Corporation assures consumers through its popular line of Mekeni products—ham, bacon, corned beef, their top-quality cured meat products such as tapa, tocino, longganisa, and of course its flagship brand, the Mekeni Picnic Hotdog. This particular product is slowly gaining ground in terms of awareness and preference among households today because of its taste that is already comparable to premium-priced brands in the market.

For the safety aspect, Mekeni Food Corporation made sure that its food manufacturing processes adhere to the strictest and most stringent standards acceptable around the world when it comes to food processing. Food safety programs such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) are already in place for Mekeni to gain acceptance among local consumers.

Mekeni Food Corporation is also doubly proud of these standards because it shows that the company is doubly serious in its efforts to make safety a top priority and part of the mindset of the company’s production team at their 20-plus hectare meat processing plant in Balubad, Porac, Pampanga. This same plant is accredited by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and boasts of a “AAA” rating conferred by the same agency.

And in a project of the NMIS together with other partner-agencies when it comes to choosing the best among AAA-grade meat processing plants in the country in terms of food safety, Mekeni showed them all how to make safety part of their manufacturing veins when it won as “Best Meat Processing Plant” in not just one but three years straight years, from 2004 to 2006. For this reason, Mekeni Food Corporation was bestowed with a “Grand Slam Award” back in 2007.

But Mekeni Food Corporation is still adamant in pushing their safety processing benchmark to even greater heights not just in the local scene but international as well. In 2006, after Mekeni Food Corporation won its third straight “Best Meat Processing Plant” award, the company even made history and made the country proud by becoming the first meat processing plant in the Philippines, the first in asia and the 2nd in the world to be presented with the prestigious ISO 22000 or Food Safety Management System certification. The award cited Mekeni Food Corporation for its continued investments in modernizing its processing equipment and thorough and meticulous research and development efforts to make their products truly world class and safe.

And Mekeni Food Corporation pushed the envelope even further when 6 years after that groundbreaking award, the company was awarded as the first Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000-certified hotdog processing plant in the country. This is no easy feat to achieve, especially for a company that started only as a backyard business. The FSSC requires that a company’s food safety standards should conform to the rigorous demands of global retailers or major branded food companies regarding food safety management in order for their product to gain entry into a specific market.

“Safety and quality is at the lifeblood of Mekeni Food Corporation, from the management down to the employees. Our consumers are our priority for the business so we make sure that safety and quality is always observed so as not to lose their trust and confidence, which is vital for us to survive. We thank God for giving us the wisdom and the courage to always be on our toes so that we can continue to give Filipinos safe and high-quality world-class products,” Prudencio “Pruds” Garcia, President of Mekeni Food Corporation, emphasizes.

The world-class quality Mekeni food products are available at all major groceries and supermarkets nationwide. To know more about Mekeni Food Corporation, contact (+63) 45-458-0000 or visit mekeni.com.

Originally, the big guy and I plan to eat at Cheesecakes, Burgers and Drinks (CBD) in Ayala Triangle Gardens, but to our disappointment, the store is now owned and replaced by Bread Talk. So, I suggested for Plan B, which is, trying Banapple Pies and Cheesecakes just a few steps from Bread Talk.

It was my second time to dine there. I remembered the first time. I really enjoyed their pasta. So, we decided to go for that dish. We picked our orders as we scan the menu.

Baked Creamy Cheesy Penne is priced at P185. This is good for sharing. Actually, it is a heavy meal, I promise you. The al dente penne pasta was topped white cheese sauce, meaty tomato sauce, and sautéed hungarian sausage. Tastes like heaven. Served with pesto bread. Oh, if only I can take it home with me and eat it on my bed. But no, our dear ants might be munching their way to our expanded polystyrene foam sheets. LOL!

For P120, you get to enjoy the Super Ceasar Salad. My husband and I really enjoyed it since we are both Ceasar salad fans. But I, personally, cannot avoid comparing it to Pizza Hut’s Ceasar salad. While Banapple’s has more serving than the latter, with regards to taste, I guess Pizza Hut is more sour-ish or shall I say has more acidity over this one. Also, I love Pizza Hut’s crouton. Well, we’re a bit disappointed because Banapple’s crouton’s doesn’t seem and taste like one. Kinda like an old bread sliced to make it look like a crouton or something to that effect.

This Iced Chocolate Drink surely hits the spot and is very affordable for only P80. Take a sip and you’ll definitely forget your name. hahah! I don’t exactly know what kind of chocolate Banapple is using here but it sure really tastes a lot different than the Iced chocolate drinks we taste. Yum!

As of writing this, I’m craving. Oh my! Gotta visit Banapple Pies and Cheesecakes again. The store really is FTW (for the win)!!

Nothing beats going out to dinner and making a little extra at the end of your meal. That is one of the benefits diners would be getting with the newly launched IF card, the loyalty discount card that could be used at all restaurants of the I-Foods Inc. group.

Since 2001, I-Foods Inc. has been dishing up delicious meals at reasonable prices for Filipinos wishing to have a taste of world cooking. Its restaurants have made Japanese food an important part of every family celebration, while its other restaurant concepts have allowed Filipinos from all walks of life to sample Italian, African and Korean cooking.

I-Foods Inc. started in 2001 when its president Bryan Tiu opened the first Teriyaki Boy outlet in Greenhills, San Juan. The restaurant gained popularity by word of mouth that, by the end of 2005, the brand already had 10 branches in Metro Manila. The concept was much in demand that the Pancake House Group bought a partnership with I-Foods Inc. that now makes the Japanese fast-food place one of the most popular in the country.

From Teriyaki Boy, the company expanded with other restaurant concepts. Tokyo Café served Western food with a Japanese twist in a comfortable modern Japanese ambience. Its menu of hot and cold coffee beverages is comparable with those offered at some coffee franchises. Stackers Burger Café offers premium burgers that use 100 percent imported beef from Australia. All burgers could be customized with your choice of sauce and toppings, something other burger joints don’t offer.

Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken reinvented chicken barbecue with a spicy marinade that hails from South Africa. The fact that the chicken is grilled of its fat makes it a healthy alternative to commercial fried chicken. Kogi Bulgogi brings home the fad for things Korean with its menu of beef bulgogi, kimchi and other Seoul food. Parmigiano Ristorante Pizzeria brings Napoletana Pizza-style thin crust pizza that cooks in just 90 seconds for one of the quickest service in the country.

If you want to enjoy a world of dining different from what you get at other fast-food places in the metro, then the IF Card is your guarantee to a great dining experience coupled with big savings.

With an IF Card, you get a 15 percent discount on all your purchases at all I-Foods restaurant in Metro Manila for the duration of the validity of your card. The discount will be applied to your total bill no matter how much your total spend is. And with a card validity of two years, that’s worth a lot of pesos.

And unlike other cards, the IF Card also earns you rebates on your all your food purchases. For every P200 that you spend at an I-Foods restaurant, you get a P1 rebate, which may be used to pay for purchases in future visits at any of its restaurants.

To sweeten the deal further, the IF Card also gives a cardholder a one-time 25 percent discount on his birthday month. This discount may be availed of at any I-Food restaurant.

Whether you have a craving for Tokyo Café’s hot or iced coffee beverages, Stackers customizable premium burgers, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken’s Peri-Peri Chicken, Kogi Bulgogi’s beef bulgogi and bibimbap, or Parmigiano Ristorante Pizzeria’s Napoletana-style pizzas, you will surely enjoy these treats at a bargain with your IF card.
