Hubby and I are Chicken wings fan. The cheapest one we like are from Flaming Wings in BF Paranaque, better than Hooters in MOA (SM Mall of Asia). Well, Hooters in MOA was not being consistent with their servings that is. Sometimes the hot ones tastes ordinary, sometimes it’s really hot. So instead of going there, we go to Flaming Wings. And now, I (will) just make our own, which by far is the cheapest and safest of all!

I’ve had this recipe since last year but never had the chance to try it out. The husband’s been requesting this for weeks now so I decided to make some for Valentine’s day, my gift for him :) *naks*

So anyway, these chicken wings are truly easy to make and they really taste like those from the restaurants. Might be even better since you’re sure what the ingredients are. ;)

recipe…

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

ingredients
oil for deep frying

1/4 cup butter*
1/4 cup hot sauce
1 dash ground black pepper
1 dash garlic powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon paprika*
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
chicken wings

directions
a. mix together the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper and salt.
b. put chicken wings in a bowl and sprinkle flour mixture over the chicken until they are evenly coated, cover and refrigerate for 60 to 90 minutes.*
c. combine butter, hot sauce, pepper and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir together until butter is melted and mixture is well blended.
d. remove from heat and reserve for coating.
e. deep fry flour coated wings in hot oil.
f. remove chicken from heat and coat (using a brush) with hot sauce mixture

Enjoy!

*Note: Recipe from Allrecipes.com
> used unsalted butter
> used Spanish paprika
> instead of using a bowl, I used a ziploc bag. Easier and less messy to coat chicken :)

We love making home made pizza and last November was no different. Well, except for the fact that I let the little princess help me make those tiny pizzas. Surprisingly for me, I really had fun with my little helper. I spread the pizza sauce, put pepperoni and cheese while the little princesses task was to put pineapple every after I put pepperoni.

The only problem with having a little helper like her who loves pineapples is that she eats it before we could even bake the pizza :D

It may not be the best pizza we ever had, but it was sure fun doing the activity with my little one :)

I know! It shouldn’t actually be soft but we like it like this better :D But when I tried to make another set after a few months, it was hard as how crinkles should be. I think it got something to do with my oven setting. We were having problem with our gas the first time I tried making one. So I guess that was the reason for the softness and chewiness of my first attempt to make crinkles. It looks more like a soft chocolate cookie :D

Crinkles

ingredients
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cups white sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

directions
a. mix together cocoa, white sugar, and vegetable oil
b. beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla
c. combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the cocoa mixture
d. cover dough, and chill for at least 4 hours (this will help you roll dough into balls, less sticky in the hands)
e. preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
f. roll dough into balls and coat each ball in confectioners’ sugar
g. bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes
h. let stand on the cookie sheet for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool

So anyway, fita was a success, cheesy sunflower also a good choice and combination of fruits! She likes apple, pear and dalanghita :) For her drink, she either have orange, pineapple, yakult or chuckie :D

I don’t recall how doing a bento snack hit me. Either thru the little princess’ DS game or a bento blog post I read that time.

I remembered having a cookie cutter somewhere and thought of using it on a loaf and this is what I got :D

The left one is a dog with a cheese as dip. And an apple on the right with mayo. I choose not to put the spread since the little princess likes dipping the bread on it :)

It’s not a perfect cut but it makes me happy to see the little princess appreciates and happy about her baon. And since she’s not really a bread girl, she only ate one bread. I wouldn’t really worry about that because she eats rice for breakfast. ;)

Since it was still early, we went horse back riding first beside Taal Vista. Actually, it was just hubby and Vera as I was the photographer.

After the ride, we went to Buon Giorno at Clliffhouse Tagaytay for lunch. I have heard so many good things about this place and we were glad we finally had time to go there. It was all worth it.

And without further ado, these were the food we had last Sunday.

I was suppose to order a risotto but I was not sure if the little princess will like it. So to be safe, I ordered a pesto for the two of us. Next time, I am gonna try either a risotto dish or the arrabbiata.

As for the other venue, we are going to try Taalena which is a few kilometers away from the Cliffhouse. They serve Filipino dishes and hopefully they taste good. Vicinity is nice and of course since it has a good view of the Taal Volcano.

He ordered White Chicken while I ordered steamed sharks fin dumpling and fresh lemonade, which I really really love!

Anyway, I tasted the white chicken which by the way was cooked steamed. What made it special is its sauce. It was thick and somehow sweet so it’s definitely not just your ordinary soy sauce. I forgot to ask the waitress for the name of the sauce so I tried to google it and this is what I found:

Basic Chinese Brown Sauce*

In a measuring cup, combine:
2 Tbl. soy sauce, shoyu, or Bragg’s
3/4 c. water
0.5 – 1 Tbl. grated ginger
1 tsp. chopped garlic (1 clove)
1 Tbl. cornstarch
1 Tbl. molasses

I am not really sure if this is what I am looking for, but I think this is the closest and I’ll try it sometime.

*recipe from here

*sigh* speaking of north park, I am craving for some litid (anised beef tendon)!

Met up with my sister in Laguna for some important documents I have to pick-up from her. Since Amber was on the way, bought 20pcs pichi-pichi (PHP80.00) to go. Was suppose to order a barbecue but we have to wait for 30 minutes for that. No time.

On our way back, hubby asked us if we want dessert at Cafe Breton. Of course I agreed! I love that place! But for someone who asked if we want dessert, hubby ordered a non-dessert food and he was the first one to make fun of himself. LOL!

Hubby’s order consists of whole Hungarian sausage, onions, egg, asparagus with cheese sauce.

Galette Paysanne, PHP273.50

The little princess wants strawberry but it’s not in season so I made her choose between mango and banana. She chose mango. I ordered a create your own crepe for her which consist of mango and condensed milk only. It tastes good! Never really liked mango crepe, but this one… I thought it was because of the mango being heated but rather it’s more of the combination. I realized that I don’t like chocolate mixed with my mango. I realized this when we ate at Spiral. That’s another story.

Create your own crepe, PHP112.50

Then finally, my order. Banana split! Since the little princess and I are sharing the crepe, I thought of ordering my next love. :)

Banana Split, PHP170.00

Verdict? One of my favorite dessert place. Need I say more?
