I am rather annoyed and actually quite mad at Peter Jackson for ruining something I love so much. I’ve read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings more times than I can remember. When I first got hooked on reading I’d read them over and over again.

If you remember the first cheesy cartoon of the hobbit. They left out Beorn, no big deal some people said. In the first attempt to make the LotR they left out Tom Bombadil. Again I had friends who said he wasn’t an important figure in the story. They had to cut something.

Peter Jackson is worse. Technology finally caught up to the genius of J.R.R. Tolken’s world of Middle Earth. Jackson was given license to bring one of the greatest stories ever written to the big screen. In the Fellowship people said he took “creative license”. Added a love story element to get the ladies in. The second one altered the story even more. Finally in the Return of the King he had warped the story so out of whack it wasn’t going to be saved. The whole Paths of Dead was wrong. What the hell!

In the first Hobbit movie I was disgusted. What was up with Radagast and the stupid rabbits? Radagast was a side note at best in the story. Now he get’s his own 15 minutes on a rabbit drawn sled, covered in bird crap. That alone should tell you how bad the movie was.

I’m not even sure at this point if I want to see the second Hobbit movie. I don’t know if I can take anymore heartbreak! Peter, I have an idea for you. Why don’t you go to the North Pole at Christmas time and make a film on how there is no Santa’s Workshop and play it in every mall. Peter Jackson and Michael Moore must be related!

As much of a conservative as I am I would like to have a national ID. Something with biometrics which would limit it from being hacked. (Ok, probably not.) After spending 20 years in the military I have no problem flashing my badge when I want to get somewhere.

It would need to be free to all approved citizens. The cry for providing ID for voting would be ended. Why is requiring an ID to prove you are who you say you are to vote a racist thing? It might even cut down on the illegal immigration too, yes I said illegal! I’ve discussed the undocumented thing before so I won’t go into it again. Get an ID card, vote legally, drive legally, carry a gun legally and be in our country legally.

Kim Jong-un needs to go. If North Korea imprisons an 85 year old without allowing the United States to question him, in private, to see what really happened is criminal. This little hobbit of a individual has a short complex and is trying to make up for it by taking on the big guy on the block. Since they can’t win an all out war he’ll do it this way. Merril Newman might be guilty of what they say he did. If so he should rot away in a North Korean prison. But history is against these tyrants. I say it’s time to re-unite the Koreas under the South Korea flag!

“Big John” Kerry, why can’t we appoint someone with personality to the position of Secretary of State? Kerry is the epitome of old white guy government. If he brokers a deal with Afghanistan I’ll be surprised. I’ve said it before and will so again here. The only think keeping Karzai alive is the United States Military. Once we pull out his people will show their gratitude towards him. I hope they leave enough to bury.

The EPA is going crazy. Pushing regulations that will shutdown this country. People wonder why business are moving their production overseas. Look at the cost of doing business in this country. Businesses pay tens of thousands of dollars every year to just operate with all the environmental permits they have to have in place. I’m all for a safe and clean environment, but someone needs to reign in the EPA.

How many solar panel and electric car companies do we give money to before we realize it isn’t paying off?

Of course there is always Obama Care. Has any one law been passed that is the butt of more jokes? Sadly we will not get the last laugh. The people who couldn’t afford health care a year ago will most likely get health care. Those of us who had health care might find ourselves without it. Spread the wealth and destroy peoples ambitions to succeed.

You gotta love the global warming crowd. I get hours of entertainment from their canned comments. “Shouldn’t the polluters have to pay?” or ”The seas are going to rise!” Recently The Oregonian (Portland’s liberal news rag) had an article about OSU researchers tracking temperatures back 11,300 years. There always seems to be some ”new” evidence about global warming. It’s like the extreme rights version of the Obama’s birth certificate crap.

Their comments gives me the impression that they think everyone pollutes but themselves. Maybe they should show us how they live without emitting any pollution. You can’t buy a bottle of soda or a new inner tube for your bicycle without some sort of pollution being emitted somewhere. Hell, I’m creating polluti0n just typing this blog entry.

It’s really too bad all their passion couldn’t be redirected toward something else. Figuring out how to stop people from writing graffiti, build better bridges, or determine why rap singers are so angry…

One person even complained about the same picture I use on my blog title above. Not that I use it, but what it represents. How horrible we are using so much electricity. If you look back 100 years it would all be dark. Who wants that. I’m proud of the advancement we’ve made in civilization. I think it shows we’ve advanced our portion of civilization to the point of comfort.

Using Africa as an example. They have one of the oldest civilizations around with some of the poorest conditions imaginable.

We should be proud of our use of resources. We educate our people, we have a good hospital system, a stable power grid, running water and sewage and garbage collection. Our poorest live better than most in the 3rd world. Again I see nothing wrong with this.

Would I like it if we came up with a better method of generating electricity, yes I would. I would like every home, or cluster of homes to have a small generator, either a power cell, fusion device, something to power our homes cheap and safe. I think we can advance our race and find cleaner ways to do it. Nobody really thinks polluting is a good idea, but either is to stop all operations that do. A lot of terrible things has happened to our planet before man lit his first fire. This beautiful rock we call home will continue to exist and repair any damage we caused after we are gone. Don’t worry about our planet, worry about our existance.

Why do we need so many government agencies collecting taxes? My suggestion would be to get rid of the IRS. The federal government can work with the states to determine the amount of tax money they will need to operate. Allow each state to collect the taxes from their citizens and pay their share to the Fed. Why do we need the huge bureaucracy of the federal government eating up our tax dollars?

There would be savings on so many levels. One of the biggest would be the cost to run the IRS. You could get rid of 100,000 public employees and all the buildings and resources currently used by the IRS. This alone could save around twelve billion dollars a year. Businesses can save the cost of having to file two separate tax returns and all the accountants needed to accomplish it.

When the States start to control the money why would they need funding from the Federal Government to assist in their projects. All those extra tax dollars the Federal Government collects so it can give grants to states to build roads, higher more police or teachers can be handled on the state level. This would inspire a state to attract more businesses and people so they would be more successful.

This idea can be expanded to reduce certain Federal agencies to just writing regulations, without enforcement authority. The states can enforce the laws. Some agencies could be gotten rid of completely, the Department of Education and Energy come to mind. Basically, if it can be handled at the state level dump it at the federal level. Make the states responsible for their own success.

I think there is a need for a level of control above the states. Some of it can be handled at in the courts. But we will still need country wide regulations, like the Clean Water Act or Interstate Commerce. It would be best if the military was managed at the federal level.

If we allow the people to keep more of their own money I believe the people will be inspired to invest and improve the world around them. Making it a better place to live.

.

I have not been closely following this story. For the most part it doesn’t interest me at all. But I’ll bring you up to date on what is going on, at least as I read it. A man who must have been hiding the fact he was gay was caught via webcam kissing another man in his Rutgers dorm room. An ex-roommate had secretly activated a webcam in the room to watch Tyler Clementi do his thing. The ex then posted it on twitter and had all his followers watch. Tyler, distraught, jumped off the George Washington Bridge, killing himself. No matter what my mother-in law thinks, I’m not a heartless bastard. I do feel for the parents of this boy, but he took the cowards way out. I think there are easier ways to deal with it. Admit your gay, it’s not like it’s a surprise now. Move, go to another country if you have too. When you kill yourself you leave it to others to pick up the pieces. So that is the history, and my opinion on suicide.
Finally, what caught my attention from the news article, the kid who turned on the webcam is facing a whole host of charges and possibly 10 years in prison. Ten years, that is like missing the whole 80′s big hair rock years. It is completely ridiculous, the prison time that is. I understand someone’s child died, but the ex-roommate didn’t push him off. The kid chose to end his life. I think the ex should be kicked out of Rutgers, but prison? I bet to make room for him they’ll release a rapist or a killer, someone who is more fit for society. They push issues too far into the stupid!

The Oregon Attorney General recently released a list of 20 worst charity organizations. It seems very little of the money donated actually went to the people they were suppose to help. Why are these charities allowed to maintain their non-profit status? Topping the list was Shiloh International Ministries. According to the list only 3.2% of the money donated was actually sent out to help. The remaining 96.8% covered admin, marketing and salaries. If it costs you so much to run a charity organization then it time to re-examine how you are running it.

I’m all for charity organizations helping the poor or down trodden. But I’m against these organizations which appear to exist only to help those employed by the organization. A new standard needs to be set up on who or what qualifies for a tax exempt non-profit charity. I believe 75% of the money they take in should going out to help those their charter states. If not then remove their tax exempt status. I’m not afraid of all charities going away or not being available to help the people. If you get rid of the inefficient ones, in some cases seemingly corrupt, then more money would be available for the honest ones.
