A month ago, on a Thursday evening the spotlights were tested at the Olympic Stadium at Stratford, East London, which seems to have looked awesome according to those who have posted comments on Twitter. And it was the same evening when more than 60 members of the West Ham United Supporter Advisory Board (SAB) gathered in the 66 Club Suite at Upton Park to get information and give their opinion on West Ham's move to the Olympic Stadium after London 2012.

Both events may have heightened the anticipation of those being present in east London that night - not only of the games, which will start with the Opening Ceremony on July 27th, but also of West Ham's possible move to the Stadium at Stratford by 2013 0r '14. At least the SAB meeting at Upton Park instilled some confidence that the club's moving in the right direction.

Vice-Chairman Karren Brady and Marketing Director Tara Warren were present in the meeting a month ago to provide some key information on the current bidding process and listen to the supporters, who were given the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns. As the club was bound by the Olympic Park Legacy Company's confidentiality agreement, all members attending the SAB meeting had to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement ahead of the meeting. That is why it was not possible to disclose any confidential informations on the ongoing bidding process.

But Karren Brady made it quite clear that West Ham was really weighing all options and considering very carefully if the move to the Stadium was making sense under the terms and conditions of the new tender process.

More than a year ago, on February 11th, 2011, West Ham (making a joint bid with Newham Council) had been selected as the preferred bidder of the first tender to take over the Olympic Stadium after the games, but in October the deal collapsed. Ministers and the Mayor of London were said to be concerned that legal actions taken against the outcome of the tender by Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient as well as a complaint at the European Commission could drag on for years during which time the venue would remain empty.

The OPLC revoked their decision and started a new tender process in January, the stadium now remaining in public ownership and going to be leased out to a tenant.

Under the new process the cost of transforming it after the 2012 Games will be met by the OPLC and the successful tenant will then pay an annual rent for using the stadium, which is only a little over a mile away from West Ham's current home Boleyn Ground.

Looking for a real home

On its official website West Ham had already stated that they would tender again when the second process began and they promised to do that with the same energy, vision and determination as they had done when they made their first successfull bid.

Now having submitted a new bid in time on March 23rd, West Ham seems to have the belief that the move to the Olympic Stadium still makes sense under the the terms and conditions of the current tender. But Karren Brady has also stated that West Ham wouldn't sell Upton Park and rent the Olympic Stadium from the government if it was not clear-cut that the new stadium was going to be a real home to West Ham United.

"We want it, but not at any price," Karren Brady said some weeks ago, and that statement was not only meant in the economic sense. She vowed that West Ham was going to keep the promise not to turn their back on its history and heritage, and to make sure that the stadium works for the loyal West Ham supporters first and foremost.

Supporters will be consulted

WHU'S VIEW have called for an independently audited supporters' consultation to be carried out by the club over the proposed move to Stratford back in October 2011. Karren Brady has already stated that it is planned to consult the supporters on the move. Though it seems that it hasn't been decided how this consultation will be shaped, a poll will take place only if the outcome of the bidding process is clear and West Ham is the selected potential tenant of the Stratford based stadium. In fact to be named the preferred bidder will not be the end oft he process, but the starting shot for detailed negotiations on the very details of the deal.

The next step of the tender process is the selection of the preferred bidder. This step is scheduled to be completed by May 21st, and according to Brady's statement at the SAB before that no poll will take place.

Regardless of what decision the OPLC will make in the end, let's hope the outcome of the process will be a good one for West Ham United. Well, since last month's Supporter Advisory Board meeting I've been a little more confident that it will be.

West Ham United are among four bidders seeking to become tenants at the Olympic Stadium after the London 2012 Games. The Hammers had looked set to move into the venue but a deal with Newham Council collapsed in October. In a second tender sixteen parties expressed an interest when the tender process was announced, but only four submitted proposals, and Leyton Orient are not among them.

Hammers vice-chairman Karren Brady said any move was conditional on the stadium being "fit for world-class football". In her official club statement Karren Brady said:

"Having spent the last two years dedicated to this project I am privileged to once more be submitting West Ham United's bid to become the anchor concessionaire of the Olympic Stadium post the 2012 Games.

"From the outset it has been my firm, unwavering belief that the Stadium can truly become a multi-use destination of which east London and the nation as a whole can be proud. I have never lost sight of our vision to play our part, along with the Stadium's major stakeholders, in ensuring it grows into a global asset, the 'jewel in the crown' of the Park that will be watched by the world.

"Our vision for the Stadium has always been about standing up for the promises made for London back in Singapore in 2005 and what they meant for our future generations. We are honoured to have once more received the support and backing of our friends at UK Athletics.

"I would like to thank the many West Ham supporters who have given their time to share their opinions on our proposed move ahead of this decision and despite the considerable constraints and confidentially agreements we were required to enter into, I can assure them their feedback has been instrumental in informing the Board's approach to our bid.

"We have not taken this decision lightly and I should be clear that any move to the Stadium is conditional on the fact that it must provide an arena that is fit for world-class football and feels like home to our deserving fans.''

West Ham United's Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold issued a joint statement, adding: "It has now been over two years since we came home to West Ham United and realised our lifelong ambition of running the club we grew up supporting.

"As we have always said, we remain committed to this magnificent Stadium and provided we are able to offer a world-class stadium for football for our prolific, loyal and passionate supporters we believe there is nobody better placed to help deliver the legacy for the East End community than us.

"This area - the one from which we both originate - deserves a true and lasting legacy to follow the 2012 Games. It will be a tremendous event that the whole world will be watching and will therefore present a real opportunity to showcase the UK at its best. However, the showcase must not stop there.

"We know that using the Stadium as our home will bring with it huge responsibility, but we are fully committed to making it our home for at least the next 99 years. We will take on with pride the mantle of what that means in terms of giving something back to the community."

"We all know how nervous we get going into the final stages a goal up"
(Sam Allardyce)

Elland Road under lights was a place to be feared only a few years ago. All of a sudden, it is a graveyard of Leeds United's hopes and dreams, a place of punishment and humiliation.

I've witnessed some horror shows at Elland Road in recent years - most notably Preston and Blackpool. But last night's 7-3 defeat at the hands of lowly Nottingham Forest topped the lot.

It seems ridiculous even writing that. What the hell happened? How did we go from outplaying some of the best sides in the Championship to a train wreck in the space of no time at all?

I was in shock last night and still am today. I just didn't see it coming. It looked as if we had turned a corner under Neil Warnock and the Forest I saw at the City Ground was the worst side I've seen since we came back to the Championship. Home banker all the way.

I should have known better. I've been supporting Leeds United long enough to know there's no such thing as a foregone conclusion, yet I let myself get carried away on a wave of optimism. It's safe to say my feet are firmly back on the ground.

It was obvious it was going to be one of those nights as early as the first minute. Forest broke down the right wing, a cross came in and they hit the post. The atmosphere was flat and it just had the same feel as the Preston and Blackpool games.

Robert Snodgrass' early penalty did nothing to convince me otherwise. Something just didn't feel right and my suspicion was proven correct when they went down the other end and equalised courtesy of a ridiculous strike.

They hit us on the break just before half-time to take the lead and the Leeds players left the field to boos. The first-half performance was dire. We looked rudderless and were second to every ball. Simply put, Forest wanted it more.

The rest of the game is a blur. The second half had to be seen to be believed. I sat through the Preston game but found myself dumbstruck. It was surreal and made no sense.

Forest took a two-goal lead, only to see it wiped out within the space of a few minutes. All of a sudden, it was 3-3 and Forest were there for the taking.

Instead of going on and taking the game away from them, we imploded in dramatic fashion. There were question (and exclamation) marks over a couple of the goals but Forest deserved the win.

Where do we go from here? As mentioned, I thought we'd turned a corner and it seemed as if the players were finally showing their true potential under Warnock. As it turns out, we were right in the first place.

The players clearly lifted when the new manager came in and performances lifted as a result, also known as the 'Honeymoon period'. They have been playing at maximum capacity for a few weeks but have run out of steam and gone back to their level.

The squad isn't good enough and needs a major overhaul in the summer. There have been far too many inept and embarrassing displays this season. A performance like last night will always be around the corner with the current set of players.

That was always in the back of my mind but I got carried away with a few good performances. Reality hit home last night, and hit home hard.

Freak results happen, I can accept that. But we've been on the receiving end of hammerings at Elland Road far too often. It's getting beyond embarrassing now. The fortress has turned into a playground.

Warnock has a big job on his hands picking the players up for the trip to Millwall, of all places. He will use the rest of the season as a time to find out who he wants to take into battle next season. On last night's evidence, he will need a whole host of new recruits.

This week has been the ultimate test of Harry Rednapp's famous man management skills. The terrible Fabrice Muamba incident last Saturday has left a cloud over a squad that was already struggling for positivity.

A serious injury to a youth player, now in intensive care, has further dampened the mood of a team on a run of three straight league defeats which have dented the push for Champions League qualification.

Redknapp is presumably telling his players that they have no reason to be anxious. They were unfortunate to lose to Manchester United and Everton after dictating play in both matches and any assumption from outsiders that the collapse at Arsenal has seen the wheels come off at White Hart Lane is wide of the mark and fans of www.betvictor.com need to bear this in mind.

That might change if Spurs slip up against Stoke, a team who never make it easy for clubs desperate to end a losing streak. The Potters are no strangers to veering between good and bad form, having followed four straight defeats with four consecutive wins earlier in the season.

One of those wins came against Spurs and tonight's hosts will feel they have unfinished business from that night at the Britannia Stadium in December, when some poor officiating helped consign them to a 2-1defeat. Those looking at Bet Victor will remember this.

Four of the seven Premier League meetings between these clubs have ended with that scoreline and goals are usually guaranteed – Stoke's1-0 at White Hart Lane in 2009/10 is the lowest scoring result.

Spurs fans will fear another smash and grab raid from a team that could field four former Spurs, but Tottenham's home form is so reliable that a win for the hosts against a team on a run three consecutive league defeats away from home should be expected.

Gareth Bale is considered to be one of the most sought after footballers in the world at the moment and rightly so. His direct pace and devastating pace are a nightmare to play against so it's no surprise that Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying some of their best seasons for some time whilst he's been in their team.

Unlike regular wingers, Bale's threat stems entirely from his pace and acceleration rather than his skill. Bale can do the odd piece of trickery but it's not a part of his game just yet, primarily because he started his career at Southampton as a left-back. If he can develop that part of his game then he'll be even more of a threat and then bigger sides may finally start to make a move. Those following the Premier League betting will be keeping a close eye on his future.

The biggest club that is constantly being linked with a move for the Welsh winger is Barcelona but he may not be right for them and people betting Premier League money should remember this. Where would Bale fit into their team? They don't play a set formation; he'd have to be very skilful and a good passer of the ball to get into their team and he's not there just yet. If Barcelona were to sign him then it would be to revert him to left-back as it's hard to see him fitting in their team anywhere else.

The sides where a player with such a direct approach to football would excel are either Manchester United, Manchester City, or Chelsea. With that in mind, the rising star may conclude that he is better off staying put.

Daniel Levy is likely to spend another summer protecting his prized assets. His hardball approach to Luka Modric’s attempts at securing a move to Chelsea paid dividends last year, but the Tottenham Hotspur chairman is canny enough to know that there is little point in keeping Harry Redknapp at the club against his wishes.

If Redknapp is tempted away by England, then replacement candidates can be split into three groups: the box office big name; a developing overseas coach unproven in the Premier League; and a domestic boss with a decent CV who has been denied access to a big job. People looking at Bet Victor should bear this in mind.

Spurs have had their fingers burned by pursuing coaches from the second group (Christian Gross, Jacques Santini and Juande Ramos) to such an extent that this policy of European coaches working in a continental management system featuring a director of football was abandoned in an instant when Redknapp’s availability became known.

The benefits of a big name are clear and Levy must be tempted to push the boat out and bring in a coach who has the status to keep the current star players and recruit the talent necessary to develop the team. Whether the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann and Fabio Capello would be a good match for Spurs is debatable. Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez have the Premier League track records, but they will expect bigger transfer bounties than Levy can offer. Fans of Victor Chandler need to remember this.

Levy will surely then again turn to the category of coach that gave him Redknapp. Brendan Rogers and Paul Lambertare attractive options, but there is only one man that has the experience, track record and potential to succeed Redknapp: David Moyes.

The Scot’s decade at Goodison Park has seen him achieve a top four finish on a tight budget, reach an FA Cup final and gain a vast amount of top flight experience. As Redknapp has proved, a lack of silverware is not a barrier to developing a fine reputation.

Moyes also has an excellent record in the transfer market and should command instant respect in the star-studded White Hart Lane dressing room. He might feel like he is ready for a new challenge and would find it nearly as hard to resist Spurs as Redknapp will in resisting England.

West Ham United struck late to deny Leeds United three vital points in front of a season-high crowd at Elland Road.

Luciano Becchio put Leeds on course for a much-needed victory with time running out in a highly-charged and tight contest. However, on-loan West Ham defender Danny Collins silenced the home crowd with a header of his own on the brink of full-time to hand his new club a share of the spoils.

It was a strange game yesterday. It was compelling and exciting throughout, yet had little quality or goalmouth action. I enjoyed it - it was fiercely competitive with a number of thunderous challenges. Paul Robinson is quickly becoming my new hero!

Neither side really got going in the first half. We dealt with their attacking threats comfortably and they did likewise. I never felt threatened while Nicky Maynard was up front on his own.

Sam Allardyce introduced Carlton Cole after the break and he brought a different threat entirely. Cole's a big unit and caused the centre-halves a few problems. To their credit, Tom Lees and Darren O'Dea stood their ground and coped admirably.

The midfield battle was just that. Adam Clayton worked tirelessly and stood out for me. He got stuck in, broke up West Ham attacks and got us moving forward. Michael Brown continued his renaissance under Neil Warnock and is, like Robinson, endearing himself to the fans with his no-nonsense approach.

It felt like one goal would be enough to win the match. The two sides were evenly matched and there was nothing in the game. When Becchio scored I thought we would see the game out and claim the win. The place erupted and it felt like a season-defining goal.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. The atmosphere was as good as it has been for a long while but Elland Road fell silent when Collins steered in his header. Once the ball hit the net there was the inevitable roar from the away fans and the gut-wrenching feeling of an opportunity missed.

There was some controversy over the goal but it was preventable from our point-of-view. We need a better attitude in those situations - an 'over my dead body' philosophy, as Warnock alluded to after the game. There wasn't much difference between that incident and the one which saw Robert Snodgrass' goal disallowed in the first half. It was disappointing in that respect.

Again, the effort yesterday was second to none and Elland Road will soon be a fortress again if we maintain that level of intensity. We weren't at our fluent best going forward but it wasn't that kind of game.

One big plus under Warnock is that we don't rely heavily on Plan A. Under Simon Grayson we had one way of playing and looked lost if that didn't work. We're starting to adapt to match situations and the players are willing to roll their sleeves up and grind out a win. There is a pride in the shirt and a fierce determination. Long may it continue.

Our performances of late have been better than our points haul suggests. I honestly believe we will give someone a hammering before long. If Nottingham Forest perform anything like they did at the City Ground, they could well be on the receiving end again.

Yesterday, as I aired my frustrations over another questionable Huddersfield Town performance, I was accused on Twitter; by an Arsenal fan no less, of being endlessly negative about all matters htfc.

Now I never considered myself to be an overly negative fan, and I had in the past actually thought myself to be endlessly positive, with perhaps the only accusation that could be levelled against me was that I have always been a cautious fan, afraid to be carried away by a performance, knowing full well that an overly bombastic celebration would in all likelihood come back and haunt me later.

A classic example to illustrate this was my over the top celebration when we beat Barnsley in the league one-nil, and I wrote off their promotion hopes, only to witness them beat us in the playoff semi finals a few months later.

Despite this I never leave the game early, I always applaud the team off the pitch, and I always hope that our new signng will be the answer to our prayers.

However I cannot defend myself nowadays against accusations of being negative, because after years of frustrating attempts to escape our league one purgatory, I have succumbed to the overwhelming desire to castigate every misplaced pass, every mistimed tackle and every goal conceded by the men in blue and white shirts.

After so many years of near misses, the Galpharm faithful have lost their faith in their teams ability to earn a promotion, or in recent weeks to actually just finish a game off. The change off manager is not having the desired effect, the changes in on-pitch personnel merely garnering the same ridiculous results and all the while the fans in the stands become more disenchanted, still decrying the team’s ability to keep the ball and kill a contest off.

And yet we are only a few points off the automatic promotion spots, scorers of more goals than just about any football league team, and getting to watch a striker who is the most lethal in the football league right now. What right do we have to complain?

Well I can’t speak for anybody else but I have been unhappy for a while now with the clubs decision making. I have said all along that I didn’t support, but understood the sacking of Lee Clark, and although many Huddersfield fans will tell you we all wanted him gone, that would in truth be an unfair reflection. It was more a case of those who shouted loudest supporting the clubs decision and a more silent majority left a little mystified by it.

However discussing the departure of Clark really is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. In all truth he was on borrowed time and the club merely hastened his departure by letting him go a few months before he probably would have been sacked anyway.

However the replacement that has been brought in is a manager I would never have appointed. After a short term decision was made, with the theory being that a change of manager would bring us a certain promotion this season, I genuinely hoped that the club would appoint a manager with a long term strategy of success, rather than merely taking a punt on someone who might be able to get us up.

Simon Grayson has two promotions out of this division, and that is what appears to have earned him this job. The hope will be that he now goes on and earns us promotion but then what?

Any research into his tenure at Leeds shows that he was merely seen as a competent manger who lost his way after a very successful start. However you must also look at what is wrong at your own club and ask whether the new manager genuinely offers solutions to the problems you have.

For me Simon Grayson doesn’t do that. He never resolved the issues with his defence at Leeds, a problem that has blighted us for many years. He bought and loaned poorly in the main, another issue that has been a constant source of irritation. He also fell out with players swiftly. Essentially it would appear that Simon Grayson is Lee Clark with a bald patch and a lisp. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

However I have decided that this will be my final negative critique of the club and the manger who needs a good summer clear out and a chance to change things, before he is unfairly judged by people like me.

For me what I would love to see is an end to the expensive signings and a return to a reliance on the academy. Over the last few years we have failed to utilise it and have bought in expensive players at the expense of home-grown lads who deserve their chance and won’t be looking to merely earn a final payday.

We’ve thrown so much money at the squad and have ignored good players that were already at the club. James Berrett is a classic example, a player who was improving, moved to Carlisle for little money and they are now reaping the benefits of a fully developed midfielder who should still be at Huddersfield whereas we are failing in our attempts to forge a midfield partnership from ex Premier League players and other expensive acquisitions from other clubs.

To reignite many fans desires we must start to clear out the expensive players, and start to trust our youngsters. Liam Ridehalgh must come into the side when he returns from Chesterfield. Jimmy Spencer will deserve his chance to play up front after a few seasons on loan. The likes of Chris Atkinson, Aidan Chippendale and Matt Crooks should also be given their chance to stake a claim whereas Anthony Kay, Joey Gudjonson, Gary Naysmith et.al should seek pastures new as despite inflated salaries and big reputations they haven’t taken us to the next stage. To move forward we must let go of the past and focus on our future.

Grayson should in my opinion get the team fitter, add some pace and creativity and emphasise the importance of youth and more significantly playing football in the right manner. There is a chance for a manger to build a legacy at Huddersfield Town, I hope, despite my reservations, that Simon Grayson is that manager, but to do that he needs to change things and adapt a squad that has talent but also an enormous amount of lethargy and complacency within the ranks.

As for me I need to adapt also, to realise that we won’t always be able to win games and that regardless of what league we are in, being in league one will become a far easier pill to swallow if we start playing football with the intent to entertain. I must learn to see the positives, otherwise football will become less something I enjoy and more something I will only ever be negative about.

You have to be pretty flinty-hearted not to feel a little sympathy for the coach and players of DAC Dunajská Streda. The side finished the autumn phase of this season at the bottom of the Corgo? Liga and players often did not receive their salaries. Cash-flow problems became more acute over the winter following a dispute between the club owner and the town authority (an important sponsor). Training for the spring campaign began 12 days later than scheduled and there were doubts as to whether the club would be able to fulfil its remaining league fixtures. Those fears have now eased but the first three of those fixtures are, you suspect, exactly the ones no’one would have wanted ; Slovan Batislava (away), Senica (home) and Žilina (away).

DAC were praised for their performances in defeat in the first two of those games. On Saturday, they came to Žilina, played bravely and attractively, and lost again. With Krešimir Kordi? partenering Dzon Delarge up front and three attacking midfielders just behind, the visitors couldn’t be accused of trying to defend and hang on for a draw. Sadly for them, though, they gave their hosts too much space. Žilina took the lead halfway through the first half with the sort of goal Róbert Pich is making his trademark. He stepped inside from the left and lashed home a right-foot shot from the corner of the penalty-area. Several further chances were created and missed and, with around 20 minutes to go, the home team became nervous, allowing Delarge a couple of presentable opportunities to equalise. He snatched at both of them, however, and his team’s defeat was confirmed in injury-time, when Miroslav Bar?ík marked his 300th appearance for Žilina by finishing well after good play by substitutes Jean Deza and Ján Novák.

DAC can take a little heart from the thought that fellow strugglers Prešov are not getting out of their reach. Yesterday, the eastern Slovak side were beaten 2-0 by Slovan at Pasienky. Ond?ej Smetana headed the first goal, his third in two home fixtures, and Russian youngster Nika Piliev tapped in the second after excellent work down the right from Juraj Halenár. Judging from TV highlights, this was another open game with chances at both ends. Afterwards, Prešov’s engaging new coach, former Dinamo Kiev captain Serhij Kovalec, appeared more satisfied with his side’s performance than Vladimír Weiss was with Slovan’s. Still, Weiss can surely be happy with his team’s 100% start to the spring, even if they haven’t yet overtaken Žilina.

Žilina and Slovan have opened up a little gap at the top after their four pursuers all lost their latest games. Senica, masters of the 1-0 away win, were given a dose of their own medicine by visiting Košice on Friday night. Ivorian striker Karim Diaby scored the decisive goal on the half-hour. As well as moving Košice up a place and virtually ensuring that they won’t be facing a relegation battle this season, this result has damaged Senica’s title hopes.

Trnava also suffered a surprise home defeat, in their case to Nitra. The undoubted stars of this match were goalkeeper Lukáš Hroššo, whose string of spectacular saves frustrated Trnava time and time again, and Brazilian winger Cleber Silva Nasciemento, the creator of Nitra’s first goal and scorer of their second. Karol Pavelka pulled one goal back for the home side but Nitra held on, and now look likely to finish the season in mid-table obscurity.

With just one point from their first two spring fixtures, Tren?ín might have been worried about being dragged into a relegation battle, but they eased their fears on Saturday with a 3-1 win at home to Vion Zlaté Moravce. Filip Hlohovský created the first two goals, for David Depetris and Peter Mazan, with Boris Goldan unselfishly setting up the clincher for Lester Peltier. A fine outside-of-the-foot shot by Martin Hruška equalised Depetris’s goal but, as coach Juraj Jarábek acknowledged, Vion were largely outplayed. They need to improve if they intend to keep challenging for a European place.

Ružomberok, beaten 2-0 in the central Slovakia derby by mid-table Banská Bystrica, appear to be another fading force. A powerful header from Marek Hlinka put Bystrica ahead but, good as it was, that goal was overshadowed by an extraordinary long-range free-kick from Radoslav Augustín, which caught ‘keeper Libor Hrdli?ka hopelessly out of position. This is at least the third such goal scored in Czech and Slovak football this spring, following Pavel Eliaš’s effort for Jablonec at Ostrava and Miroslav Karhan’s for Trnava against Vion. Credit to all the scorers for their opportunism, but perhaps it’s time goalkeepers started learning from each other’s mistakes.

This is an interesting point of the Corgo? Liga season. Every team has now played twenty-one games and next Saturday sees the start of a crucial spell of five rounds of fixtures in two weeks. Within that spell, Žilina v Slovan, scheduled for Tuesday 3rd April, looks huge, though both sides will be keen not to drop points before then. At the bottom, DAC v Prešov, postponed from February 25th and rearranged for March 27th, could provide a turning-point in the fight for survival. Stay with us to see what happens.....

Leeds United entertain automatic promotion-chasing West Ham United with renewed hope after an impressive victory over high-flying Middlesbrough last weekend.

The 2-0 win at the Riverside Stadium came on the back of our most convincing performance of the season and has encouraged the masses to return to Elland Road. A crowd of well over 30,000 will be in attendance for Neil Warnock's second home game in charge.

It's amazing the impact Warnock has had on the club in such a short space of time. Not just on the playing side, but among the fans as well.

Positivity is not a word you would associate with Leeds fans but there is plenty of it around the place at the moment. Us Leeds fans are simple folk, we don't ask for much. All we want to see is full-blooded commitment and a passion for the cause.

Under Simon Grayson we saw that sporadically, but never on a consistent basis. I went into games away at the likes of Millwall or Cardiff expecting defeat. We were never quite pumped off enough for those kinds of games under Grayson and invariably left with nothing.

You get the sense that won't happen under Warnock. He won't settle for anything less than 100 per cent. He has already stamped his authority on the side and the attitude of the players has been first class. Cynics among us will say Warnock's enjoying a honeymoon period and it won't last. I'm not sure that will be the case.

You just need to take a look at the back four - the transformation under Warnock has been remarkable. Three clean sheets in a row away from home is incredible for a defence which was torn apart by the league's bottom side just weeks earlier.

The way he has lifted the fans is just as miraculous. Perhaps we were just so low and it was never going to take much, that could well be the case! Whatever the reason, the gloom has parted and things are looking up. I'm enjoying watching Leeds again and am actually looking forward to games. If Ken Bates doesn't restrict him, Warnock will take us back to the Premier League.

On today's game, it will obviously be extremely tough against the side with the best away record in the Championship. If we play anything like we did against Southampton or Middlesbrough, we'll be fine. It could be a difficult afternoon if we perform like we did at Hull City.

Warnock should stick to the line-up which won comfortably on Teesside. There is no reason to change anything and the side has a nice balance to it.

We obviously need a win to keep our play-off dream alive while West Ham need to keep in touch with Reading and Southampton at the top. Win today and we would take some stopping.

Elland Road should be buzzing and I can't wait. Warnock has brought the feel-good factor back to the club. Long may it continue.

Some things in life never fail to amaze – like odds of around 10/1 against Chris Hughton becoming the next permanent Tottenham Hotspur boss.

With Harry Redknapp 6/1 on to become England manager and Jurgen Klinsman (around 3/1) publicly announcing he's not interested in the White Hart lane gig the signs are that the old cockney charmer 'Arry Boy is on his way.

Ever since the former West Ham and Pompey boss answered a loaded question and politely agreed David Moyes could manage any club in the world, the Everton chief has become favourite in the Premier League betting to succeed him at White Hart Lane when the time comes.

But a reporter's question in pursuit of an easy story (after all, what else would Harry boy say) is a long, long way from him, getting the job – or even being asked so you may not want to place a Premier League bet on it just yet.

Look instead at Hughton – a man who is working a miracle at St Andrews with Birmingham City. The word 'miracle' is over used in footballing circles but in this case it's probably an understatement in this case.

Hughton is a former West Ham player and was assistant boss at Spurs for 13 years – under Ray Clemence, Doug Livermore, Ossie Ardiles, Gerry Francis, Christian Gross, George Graham, Glenn Hoddle, David Pleat, Jaques Santini and Martin Jol.

Quite apart from the fact that it takes a special kind of bloke to get on with ten different types of manager, to emerge from the No 2 shadows to become a successful boss is a very clever trick indeed.

Yet when the chance came he took sinking Newcastle United to promotion before – amazingly – being sacked and is now in the process of doing the same at City where the club lie in fourth place.

Impressive doesn't begin to cover particularly given the appalling and controversial financial circumstances surrounding the club, Hughton has shown him to be a very serious manager indeed and would surely love nothing more than a return to his spiritual home 'dahn the Lane.'

Of all the players signed by Slovak clubs this winter, MŠK Žilina’s Togolese centre-back Serge Ognadon Akakpo surely has the most dramatic tale to tell. For a 24 year-old, his club career has already been varied enough ; Žilina are his fourth employer in as many countries. But the event that defines his life is the 2010 terrorist attack on the Togo team-bus as it made its way to the side’s base in Angola for the African Nations Cup. Akakpo, shot twice in the back, was one of two players injured. Four people were killed, including assistant coach Amalete Abalo and spokesman of Togo’s football federation Stanislas Ocloo.

Akakpo was born in the Togolese capital Lomé in 1987 and came through the youth ranks at French club AJ Auxerre. He also represented France at four age-group levels from the age of 17. He made his senior debut for Auxerre aged 18, but first-team chances were limited until, in 2009, an offer came from FC Vaslui of Romania. Apart from increased opportunities, this move had two main attractions ; Vaslui’s regular participation in European competition and the fact that their coach, Viorel Moldovan, was already known to Akakpo through his work with France’s youth sides.

Within 18 months, however, things had begun to turn sour. Vaslui had internal problems, and the players were not being paid. Rather than wait for a resolution, Akakpo put matters in FIFA’s hands and left, for Slovenian club NK Celje. He says that he has received one installment of the money owed to him by Vaslui and that an agreement is in place concerning the remainder. After 18 months and 31 league appearances in Slovenia, he has now arrived in Žilina. There is a certain co’incidence here, since former MŠK goalkeeper Dušan Kuciak was one of two Slovak team-mates at Vaslui, the other being former Nitra defender Pavol Farkaš. Akakpo says these two became his friends and that, when times were especially bad, they would tell him that Slovakia was a better place for a footballer to be than Romania. Although he heard plenty about Žilina from Kuciak, he never considered the possibility that he would one day sign for them.

Akakpo hints that his decisiveness in quitting Vaslui over the financial situation there can be explained by what had happened to him just six months before. His Angola experience – and the fact that he came within centimetres of death - has made him both determined to take advantage of what every day brings and reluctant to spend too much time resolving issues not of his own making. The circumstances of the events in Angola are fairly well-known ; the Togo party were travelling through the unstable but oil-rich Cabinda region, close to the border with Congo, when members of an armed separatist group started machine-gunning the bus. Following the incident, there was speculation and debate over whether the team would go-ahead with its participation in the competition – Akakpo says that half the players were in favour of doing so, while the other half were against – but they eventually decided to pull out.

Akakpo admits he doesn’t know how the bullets that hit him didn’t seriously damage his spinal chord or any internal organs. He spent two days receiving emergency treatment in Angola and was then moved to a hospital in Togo, where he spent a further week. Incredibly, within two-and-a-half-months, he had physically recovered from his injuries. He is now in a position to add considerably to the 25 international caps he has won since his full international debut in 2008, and is the current captain of his country.

It is clearly too soon to judge how Akakpo’s Žilina career will go, given that he has played just two competitive games for the club. But the early signs are good. Though not the tallest, his spring in the air is something to behold, he is decisive in the challenge and he tries to use the ball constructively. He says his central-defensive partnership with Jozef Pia?ek is benefitting nicely from the winter preparation, including friendly games, they had together. His closest off-field relationship, meanwhile, is with right-back Ernest Mabouka, who originates from Cameroon and is a fellow French speaker.

Žilina fans will be interested to learn that Akakpo has not yet won an honour at senior club level, so he is well-motivated to help the club’s bid for the Corgo? Liga title. Understandably, followers of rival clubs will hope he does not succeed in that aim. Regardless of sporting loyalties, though, his courage and sense of perspective in dealing with a truly appalling event, experienced at a very young age, are qualities all of us can only admire.

Having not posted anything myself since January 28th, I think it's about time for a quick update before I post the next of James Baxter's excellent articles.

As the mid-season friendlies came thick and fast back in January, I thoroughly enjoyed being back out watching Slovan, and felt confident about not only their chances domestically, but also my own chances of catching a few games in the second half of the season.

As has tended to be the way for me in recent years, no sooner did I start to feel like I could say I'd spent a decent amount of time in Slovakia, things have once again changed completely.

I returned to work on 1-February and since then have not spent a single day at home. A wonderful holiday in the sun coincided with major changes, both personal and professional. The changes are still ongoing, things are moving forward and I have a lot to look forward to. However, for now - my days in Slovakia appear numbered.

James will continue to contribute his fantastic articles, and I'm sure our dedicated readership will keep the discussion going. We hope to continue attracting a steady stream of new visitors to the site, and the Britski Belasi blog will continue to operate in it's current form. As always, any written contributions are welcome.

From my side, if I have the opportunity to acquire some material suitable for the close scrutiny attracted on this site, I will continue to post occasionally. There could even be a new cross-continental theme working it's way into the blog, but we'll leave that for later.

Many thanks to James to his contributions, to the readers, especially those who comment regularly, and for the support from the blog host. Enjoy the second half of the season, wherever your club and national preferences lie! Slovan do toho!

Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker has denied suggestions that he and his teammates are running scared of local rivals Arsenal, as the battle for third place continues.

Harry Redknapp's side have lost their last three matches, including a resounding 5-2 loss to the Gunners and in a run which has seen their previous lead of 10 points over their neighbours almost evaporate.

Despite being written off earlier in the season, Arsene Wenger's men are now the form team in the league, having won their last four matches and are suddenly breathing down Parker's team's necks. Those looking at the soccer odds will be keeping a close eye on things.

However, the England international says that he and his colleagues are not worried by the Gunners' recent form, adding that they're solely focused on their own fortunes.

"I wouldn't say we're worried one bit," he said."We're focused. We need to win football matches. That's it.

"We know what we need to do. We need to all pull together and see through the last remaining part of the season."

The Lilywhites' defeat to the Gunners looks as if it could be a turning point in their season and the fact that they were 2-0 up during the match appears to have seriously affected them mentally.

Since then they have been humbled by championship chasing Manchester United, a defeat which almost certainly rules them out of the title race before going down to Everton on Saturday.

However, the 31-year-old insists the mood within the Spurs camp remains upbeat and says that he is confident that he and his colleagues will rediscover their form in the near future.

"Hopefully we can go on a run now. We've got some difficult fixtures coming up" he added.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that he faces competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United this summer as the race to sign Lille’s highly-rated midfielder Eden Hazard intensifies.

Redknapp, who is favourite in the football betting to leave White Hart Lane in the near future to become England’s new manager, is also being linked with Marseille's Loic Remy as Spurs continue to make plans to strengthen their squad.

Belgium international Hazard has said in the past that he would welcome the chance to play for Spurs and, at the age of 21, is keen to try his luck in the Premier League.
Redknapp, whose side have lost their last three Premier League games, said: "Our owner is willing to pay for an exceptional talent, like Eden Hazard.

"I have seen him several times recently in Marseilles [in January] and then also against PSG in the final of the Coupe de France [last May].

"But I also know that Manchester United are looking at him and also Manchester City. It will be difficult to get him, but I like him a lot."

Hazard has been with Lille since the age of 14 and played his first live football for the French side in November 2007.
He made his international debut for Belgium 12 months later at the age of 17 and has already represented his country on 26 occasions.

Hazard has scored 27 goals in 136 appearances for Lille and is one of the brightest young talents currently playing in Europe.

At Stamford Bridge Stoke had weathered the early storm. We were looking increasingly comfortable and, at times, even had possession in the attacking third of the pitch! When the home supporters were audibly restless it was a fantastic sound. If we could stay solid and focussed we could collect our first point at Chelsea since promotion. As we know now, Ricardo Fuller’s foolish violent stamp put paid to any hopes we had of avoiding defeat. Fuller’s brutal attack on Ivanovic is particularly sickening when bearing in mind our team is known for being physical. His response on being needled was to commit an act of vicious thuggery. In short, using school playground terminology, we could be seen as a team that gives it out but can’t take it. Drogba took his chance well, quick feet skipping through to snatch the points. Unfortunately we’ll always wonder how we would have fared with eleven players. That is down to the stupidity of one man. In recent years Fuller has been instrumental in our rise to the Premier league, and achieving stability thereafter. It could prove a sad way for him to bow out of the Brit.

On Sunday, we have an FA Cup quarter final at Anfield. Liverpool go into the tie as overwhelming favourites. Victory would signal a return to Wembley and one step from another cup final. They will know that to match the Manchester clubs, and a few of the London ones, there is a huge ongoing rebuilding programme. Despite what Kenny Dalglish may say in public he must know that the signings of Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson, quite simply, haven’t worked out yet. This combined with the total mismanagement of the Suarez – racism affair have led to a patchy season. In August their priority was a trophy. They achieved that in the League Cup. Disposing of Manchester City and Chelsea (and Stoke!) on the way is impressive but deep down inside many will be fully aware that in the final they required a penalty shootout to beat a Championship club. The trophy is the same but it does lack the frisson of a winning goal. The victory over Everton has undoubtedly raised spirits but they know that much of their season hangs on Sundays game. It’s a tough ask for Stoke but it’s crucial to remember that Liverpool are not unbeatable. A parked bus will achieve nothing. Matty Etherington is essential to any ambitions we have. To carry the ball forward with pace will be a relief to our deep players. This could also be an opportunity for Jermaine Pennant to re-establish himself. If they provide the ammunition for Peter Crouch to knock his old team out the FA Cup we’ll be on our way back to Wembley!!

The only word to describe Brisbane Roar’s 1-1 draw with Adelaide United is ‘frustrating’. Another chance to reach the top of the table was wasted. Falling behind to an early goal on the break, the remainder of the game saw the Adelaide half of the field covered in orange. Clawing back to parity on 70 minutes Roar couldn’t find a winning goal. Thomas Broich squandered several excellent chances and we all had to settle for a point. Watching table toppers Central Coast lose at Perth only exacerbated the disappointment. Three points would have put Brisbane at the summit with only two games left of the regular season to go. Deeply deeply frustrating.

With Clint Hill’s ‘goal’ for QPR at Bolton, hot on the heels of Sulley Muntari’s effort for Milan against Juventus, the debate about goal line technology resurfaces. Surely if it’s available it’s foolish not to use it. It’s unlike many topics of debate that arise surrounding refereeing decisions in a game of football. For example, at the start of February Robert Huth was sent off against Sunderland.. It was my opinion that the red card was harsh and a yellow would suffice. However, friends I spoke with, and reading assorted internet message boards, many felt it was a good decision by the ref and the sending off was fully justified. There are varying opinions and that is part of the soul of football. The difference between a situation like that and whether a ball crosses the line or not is that whether the ball crosses the line isn’t a subject of debate, it’s a matter of fact, and also the key factor in a match…. scoring a goal. Or not as the case may be. In these days where lost points can lose a club millions, and to implement the change would be relatively straight forward, isn’t it prehistoric to refuse to accept it? Mr Blatter would be OK, he should think of the favours it could generate from the companies who want to get the contracts to put the equipment in place! The bods at FIFA have stated they are keen to see it introduced in time for the next World Cup. That’s fine but more details would be welcome. What form will it take? Will it be experimented with initially? We need a feasible schedule. Over to you Blatter.

Ricardo Texeira’s departure from the top table of Brazilian football is being widely regarded as a boost for their World Cup preparations. He ran the CBF for 22 years and his reign was peppered with allegations of corruption and constant calls for his resignation. President Dilma Rousseff has regarded his exit as a token of personal achievement and has arranged to meet Sepp Blatter at the weekend to discuss World Cup preparations. She’d be wise to ensure the bill passes through parliament which ensures the infrastructure funding is available.

Texeira’s successor is Jose Maria Marin. For the sake of football, and 2014 in particular, we have to hope his rule is more transparent than that of his predecessor. Anything that compromises the integrity of the game should be publicised and addressed. Here is Jose Maria Marin at a medal ceremony. This is transparency…. the whole world can see what he’s doing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVZbulmbsc4&feature=youtu.be
