Plenty of people have leapt in to offer their advice and a number have recommended Miele. Mjt admits that Yermum may have to spend a little more than she wants to, but it is worth it for a Miele, especially considering that Mjt’s current machine has been going for 20 years. Philjohn agrees,

“Spend the extra and get a Miele, they are consistently ranked as the very best in most consumer shootouts. I don’t know a single person who has one and is disappointed with it.”

“I hate the thought of going back to the hassle of bags, buying them, checking they’re full/empty etc.”

Fellow contributors Mamaloco and Ixia felt otherwise, both championing the bag system. Ixia specifically recommending the Cat & Dog,

“I have a Miele and love it. It tells you when the bag is full, the bag has a wee tab that you pull to seal it - no mess, no hassle, you can just put it in the kitchen bin.”

In response there are three fellow contributors suggesting that Miele is the option to go for. These are Imola Duke, TT600 and NedLudd, each offering different reasons as to why Miele is the brand they recommend.  However, it is arguably TT600 who is most forthright in his reasoning,

“I like Miele, long had one and still going strong. Took the view get what pay for, happy so far.”

There are plenty of responses across the board, and - of course - Miele has some strong support with, among others, louisejn stating “Miele - nice and quiet, economical and 5 yr guarantee!”

Both Converse and Clockworks return verdicts with Miele near the top, stating that the brand has a good reputation. Ormus also goes down the same line adding to the thread,

“At the top end the German names are very good.”

“My washing machine decided to pack it in last night after 18 months. As this is my first experience of a washing machine playing up, I have no idea, but it doesn’t this seem a bit soon.”

His fellow contributors come back exclaiming that this is indeed far too soon and offer all sorts of advice from their own experiences, and what they know of guarantees. Among them is Anorakus, a Miele owner,

“We bought a Miele washer-dryer 8 years ago. […] In that time it’s had two repairs - a new heating element and new condenser unit. Otherwise going as strong as ever. I’d have been very miffed if it broke down after 18 months!”

At dooyoo Masterchef98 is enamoured with the Miele S5281. He purchased after reading ‘rave reviews’ in the wake of his previous vacuum eventually kicking the bucket. Is he pleased with the S5281? In a word, yes,

“I’m very, very happy with my Miele S5281. You have to take your vacuuming seriously to pay this amount for a vacuum but I think you can really see the added value with the special brushes, quiet setting etc so it is money well spent.”
