As you might have already guessed based on the sparse posts lately, I haven't had as much time to devote to my blog as I would like. Also, some of the same things are still on my mind as when I wrote this post, and I don't feel like I'm sticking to my blogging resolutions enough. A combination of those things have me needing to take a little time to reevaluate again.

Though my blog is called Forever81, I'm actually 24 and still figuring some things out regarding my career, grad school, etc. So, I'm going to take some time for that stuff as well as some time to think about how I can make my blog the best it can be. I might change the name. I might not. I might change the layout. I might not. We'll see. I won't be gone for that long, and I hope you'll continue following me on Bloglovin' so you'll know when I return! And even though the blog is taking a short break, you can still find me on Twitter, Instagram, and maybe even Facebook.

Blogging has been so much fun, and I know I'm not ready to stop doing it. I really appreciate the support of my readers, and I've been lucky to meet some awesome people so far. Thank you all for your support and I'll see you all soon!

I think this outfit would be a fun nod to St. Patrick's day without being too over-the-top. It has the right amount of green, and of course, I can't resist a pop of pink. Interview: The Tiny Heart

Today's interview is with the lovely Sharon of The Tiny Heart and her two adorable pups! She's got one big dog and one little dog, which I always think is the cutest thing to see walking down the street. Turns out the little dog thinks he's kind of a badass, and has even gotten into trouble with a bouncer at a bar! Make sure you check out that story below!

Name & Blog: Sharon, The Tiny Heart

Dog's Name, Age, & Breed: Jinx, about 7 years old. He's a pitbull mix (unsure what he's mixed with).
Oliver, 2 and a half. He's a puggle.

Do you have any nicknames for your dogs? Jinx's nicknames: Jinxer Jinx, Jinx Monster, Bubba.
Oliver's nickames: Olls, Monkey, Munchkin. He also responds to "puggle" :)

What is your dog's favorite treat? They both love to chew on femur bones and like carrots for snacks. Oliver is tennis ball obsessed. He'll chew a tennis ball up in 10 minutes.

When did you get Jinx and Oliver and why did you decide to get a dog? My hubby adopted Jinx back in 2007. He was found wandering the streets of PA with another dog. A few months before, his dog Rascal had to be put down at the age of 16 and decided it was time to get another dog. We found Oliver on Petfinder and adopted him when he was 8 weeks old. I had always wanted a puppy and as soon as I saw his cute face, I knew I had to adopt him!

What is the best part of having a dog? They are always so happy and their happiness is infectious! It's hard to be in a bad mood with them around. They get so excited to see me, whether I've been gone for 5 minutes or for 5 days.

Do you have a favorite story about the dogs? There's a bar here that has "Yappy Hour", which is happy hour for dogs and their owners. They have a separate fenced off area for food so that the dogs can't get to it. Well, one time Oliver managed to sneak into the food area and the "bouncer" had to pick him up and plop him back over the fence. If there's food, Oliver will find it!

Do you own any clothing/accessories for your dog? Yes! Both dogs have winter coats for when it gets cold. Jinx has a Harley tee and Oliver has a sweater. I've dressed up Oliver a lot for Halloween...he's been a shark and a hot dog. I'd get more outfits for Jinx, but he's so big that it's a challenge finding clothes that fit him!

Would you encourage others to adopt a pet? Yes! There are SO many dogs in shelters in need of a loving home. Personally I think it is much better to adopt than to go to a breeder.

I've been on the hunt for the perfect structured handbag lately. Well, not so much on the hunt - I've already found quite a few - so much as trying to narrow it down to just one. A good structured handbag adds a certain amount of polish to an outfit, and makes a statement in and of itself. Besides the mint one (of course), I think my favorite is the Coach one in the bottom right. (Guess I should save up!) Which is your favorite?

I haven't linked up for Friday's Fancies in a couple weeks, but I had to come back for one of my favorite trends - lace! Even though to me, it's not a trend. It's something I could happily wear season after season. It's ladylike and old-fashioned, but can be updated with modern silhouettes and bright colors. Instead of doing an outfit, I decided to just pull a selection of some of my favorite lace items out there right now.

Five thoughts from this week:

1. I'm realizing that I really need to work on my patience and learn how to properly shop on ebay. More and more lately I'm seeing bloggers score these awesome things on there. For example, I cannot get over this fabulous midi leather skirt that Alison scored.

2. In the spirit of spring hopefully being nearby, I can't wait to try this spiked peach tea recipe from Emily.

3. I think I have all the pieces to make this outfit work - stripes + floral + leopard + cargo vest. Hoping I can pull it off like Shanna!

4. Really getting random here, but I tried spaghetti squash for the first time this week, and WHAT?! Why hadn't I tried this before? It's so good and it actually does taste like spaghetti. This will be the next recipe I try with it.

5. As my obsession with mint grows, I have my eye on this watch, this bag, and these flats. I need to reign it in.

This is my "in-denial-that-it's-not-spring" outfit. Although, I'm not complaining about the snow day we had in DC yesterday. I really can't say enough good things about this top and skirt from the Prabal Gurung for Target collection. I wore this outfit to work last week and received many a compliment. (Co-workers complimenting your outfit are always nice to brighten up a work day, as if the fluorescent yellow of this shirt weren't enough to do that already). The shirt looks and feels like something more expensive than would come from Target. And the skirt! It's floral, which obviously appeals to my old lady sensibilities, yet it is a graphic black-and-white, which is right on trend for spring. It's also the perfectly flattering circle-cut shape. Trendy with a nod to the old-fashioned? Basically my philosophy on dressing summed up into one garment. And the best part is, both the shirt and skirt are still available online!

I told you there would be cats on the blog this week! :) And not just any cats, the most photogenic cats on Instagram. Today's interview is with Ashley and her adorable cats, Owen and Lola. I've had the pleasure of meeting all three of them in real life, and Ashley is a total sweetheart, and of course, so are the cats! She's also an amazing photographer (as you'll see by the photos below), so I highly suggest checking out her blog.

Do you have any nicknames for your cats?

Owen = Ownie
Lola = Fluff, Fluffbutt

When did you get your cats and why did you decide to get them?

I've been a cat person ever since I was a little kid - I've always had a cat as a pet. My cat Ramona had passed away my sophomore year in college and I missed her so much and hated not having a cat. So, Owen was rescued during my senior year, and then I got Lola a month after I graduated.

Can you tell us a little about your cats different personalities?

Owen is very vocal and very social - he is constantly "talking", and when he's not, he's sleeping! He loves catnip toys and watching birds outside through our big windows. He's on a constant diet, but he loves food.

Lola is more low key and relaxed. She is a Ragdoll, so she's soft like a bunny and goes very limp when you pick her up. She's not into toys or catnip like Owen; she's more of the queen of the house. She's small for her breed - Ragdolls are typically much bigger, but Lola is very tiny under all that fluff.

What is the best part of having cats?

They're so lovable! All they want to do is be your best friend. They even run to the door to greet us when we get home from work. They're also self-sufficient, so we're not as tied down and can do things like take overnight trips without having to worry.

What are your cats' favorite things to do?

Owen loves to eat - his favorite game is to chase after a treat when it's thrown. He also loves catnip and, when it's warm enough, sitting in the fresh air on the balcony.

Lola loves to sleep, relax, roll around on the floor... you get the idea. We recently discovered that she likes to be vacuumed with the hand-vac!

Do you have a favorite story about them?

When Owen was a very tiny kitten, I had actually named him Chloe... then he started to grow up a bit and I quickly realized he was, ahem, NOT a girl.

Would you encourage others to adopt a pet?

Yes, definitely - as long as you have the means and time to take care of them. It bothers me when people adopt pets and then don't take the time to care for them, or complain that they are too much work and "return" them.

Where do you think the "crazy cat lady" stigma comes from and what do you think about it?

Not everyone is a cat person, and I think sometimes whenever someone has more than one cat, they are classified as a 'crazy cat lady'. People who own cats are usually passionate about cats in general. Truthfully, I own it. ;)

City Chic

On Sunday I had brunch with the lovely Brea, Emily, and Betsy, and this soft jersey Ronen Chen dress was the perfect thing to throw on for such an occasion. Sometimes on the weekends you just wish yoga pants were acceptable attire to wear out in public at places other than yoga, ya know? On these days it's nice to have an easy dress that's made from a similar soft, stretchy material. (It's also helpful if you eat too much at brunch.) Anyway, these ladies are pretty awesome, so I highly suggest checking out their blogs. We had some great conversations about life, blogging, and more, and I'm really glad that blogging has lead me to meet some quality people like them.

Here's Emily, Brea, and me just chilling on a random front porch in Dupont Circle like we own the place. You gotta love bloggers, they never pass up the chance for a good photo!

Oscar Worthy

If I were going to the Oscars, I'd gladly take any of these gowns. As you can see, I am loving lace and feminine silhouettes, and I do not think an award show gown has to be the most revealing to be the most eye-catching. (Take note, J.Lo!)

As usual when Oscar season comes around, I wish I had seen more of the nominated films. Because, though quality entertainment, Pitch Perfect and Magic Mike are not up for any Academy Awards. However, I see did Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook, both of which I predict big wins for.

Who do you think will win big at the Oscars?

When I was in Pittsburgh over the holiday weekend I got to meet my family's new dog Gus! You've seen our other dog, Grady, in a previous post, but Gus does not pose nicely for pictures like Grady. Gus is crazy. He's also very sweet and lovable, but crazy nonetheless. He's constantly excited and runs around the house like he has no idea what to do with himself. He doesn't understand "no" yet and thinks it's OK to help you out with whatever you're eating (particularly, Girl Scout cookies). And all 70-something pounds of him thinks he's a lap dog. If you're on the couch, he'll just jump up and lay down right on top of you. He is awesome.

What's with two dog-related posts in a row, you ask? I don't know, but it's time for some cats up in here. Some cats will be coming at ya next week!

DIY Chalkboard Spice Jars

Supplies: Glass jars, nontoxic craft paint, Mod Podge (not pictured), chalkboard paint, brushes, chalk

- Wash inside and outside of jars with dish soap and water

- Paint one coat and let dry (leaving a space for the chalkboard paint)

-Paint on second coat (or however many are needed for full coverage) and let dry
*Only paint on outside of jars*

- Paint over with coat of Mod Podge - this is important for getting a smooth, shiny finish

- Paint on coat of chalkboard paint, let dry for at least one hour, then paint on second coat

I found these cute little jars at the craft store for like $1, and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them, but I thought they were too cute to pass up. I came up with this sort-of-Anthropologie-inspired chalkboard spice jar idea. I think they turned out pretty decently!

Note: If I were to do this again, I would not paint the top part of the jars where the lid screws on. Just in case the paint (even though it's nontoxic) should chip off while taking the lid on and or off, I wouldn't want any to get into the spices.

If it's not going to actually be warm out, the least I can do is take bright, summery clothes and make them a little more winter-appropriate with tights and some extra layers like a vest. The next being this JCrew look-alike top from JCPenney! It's currently on sale for only $10 and comes in three different colors.

Speaking of exciting offerings in the retail world, who else shopped the beautiful Prabal Gurung for Target collection yesterday? I absolutely love this collection and it was hard not to want to buy everything. Well, it wasn't hard not to want to, it was hard not to actually do it. 1. I admit that I've been slacking this week when it comes to including more text in my blog posts. I feel like I've had a bit of writer's block. Does this happen to anyone else from time to time?

2. Someone who isn't having writer's block, however, is KW over at Ladies in Navy. If you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed, envious, or isolated in regard to social media, then I highly suggest you check out her recent post on "social media loneliness." I sometimes get too caught up in the social media frenzy that is today's world (particularly for bloggers) and my relationship with social media is not always a positive one. In this post, KW talks about limiting social media usage for a while to be more present in her own life, and I think that is something very worthwhile to consider. I'm not making any proclamations about my own social media usage yet, but this post does encourage me to be much more mindful about it. It is also always nice to realize someone feels the same way as you about something you'd wondered if you were alone in thinking.

3. On a lighter note, thank you to everyone who checked out my first interview in my series about bloggers and their pets! I will have some more of those fun interviews coming at ya in the future!

4. As I have mentioned plenty of times, I am so very over winter. I'd much rather look to my Spring/Summer board on Pinterest for fashion inspiration than my Fall/Winter one right now.

It seems like a shame that I bought this dress in California, and now it's being worn with three layers over it on a 30 degree day in DC. I got it last year when I was visiting my friend who lives near Laguna Beach (must be rough). The weather is just always absolutely perfect there, and I can totally see why so many people love it. In case you can't tell, I am totally over winter. Although I'm starting to see bathing suits in the stores, and I must say, I'm not ready for that either. I'm pretty much ready for light jackets, dresses without tights, and not having to remember gloves and earmuffs every time I walk out the door.

Winter Mint

I fear that if I don't get my obsession with this color under control, my wardrobe will soon be reminiscent of a pack of Wintermint gum. I don't know why I am so drawn to it, but mint just makes me happy. For example, have you seen all of the mint leather goodness at Coach lately?

In a not-at-all-smooth transition here, how was everyone's Super Bowl Sunday? I stayed out at a bar until that whole power outage debacle, but it was getting late and who knew when that was getting cleared up, so I headed home at that point. When I left I thought the Ravens pretty much had it wrapped up, but I learned never to say that in football! It certainly was a nail-biter! And finally a good halftime show. I think Beyonce's halftime show was the best in a long time, but I must say I was a little disappointed that Destiny's Child didn't get a little more airtime. I was really hoping for a reunion rendition of "Say My Name" or "Survivor." What did everyone think?

I think every household should have a pet (or five) and I love hearing about, and of course seeing adorable pictures of, other people's pets. Black & White Stripes

I wasn't kidding on Friday when I said I had a black and white dress and I wanted to style like my Friday's Fancies board. This dress is one of those gems (to me anyway) that I just can't believe I found at Target! My bad for not taking the jacket off and letting you see it in all it's sweetheart-necklace-lace-panel-glory, but it was cold last week, and I'm sure I'll be wearing it well into the spring and summer and another outfit post will ensue. Also, I'm aware those shoes would look better without tights, but like I said, it was cold. I promise this won't be the last time you see those shoes on here either. I've got big spring outfit plans for them. And since the weather in DC has gone from snowing to mid-sixties in a matter of days, spring might not be as far off as you think!

DIY: Clothesline Calendar

Supplies:

-Thick craft paper

-Scissors -Ruler

-Clothespins or Binder Clips

-Twine, String or Ribbon

-2 Thumbtacks

-Fine Tip Marker

-Stickers, Glitter, Glue, Colored Pencils, etc. (Really, whatever craft supplies your little heart desires to decorate your calendar!)

1. Cut paper into 6x6 inch squares

2. Measure in 1.5 inches from each side, forming a 3x3 inch square in the middle

3. Trace 3x3 inch square with marker, and erase pencil marks

4. Use a ruler to write the dates in straight lines across the square

5. Decorate each month accordingly!

6. Fasten twine to wall using thumbtacks

7. Hang calendar sheets using binder clips or clothespins

I know I'm a little behind seeing as to how we're already a month into 2013, but if you've been slacking in the calendar department as well, then you'll like today's DIY project. I was inspired by a similar display I saw at Paper Source when I went in to buy a calendar - but I figured, why not make one? This was a fun project because after you write in the dates, it's pretty much a free-for-all. And you don't have to complete it all at once either. I'm only displaying three months at a time. (Otherwise the clothesline would be pretty long.) That gives me time to collect seasonal craft supplies for the other months throughout the year!

Friday's Fancies: Black & White + Weekly Feelings

Black and White is such a classic color combination that there is actually a whole store dedicated to it. Year after year that store has been going strong, so I think it's safe to say the combination of black and white is a pretty timeless one. I actually just bought a black and white dress from Target that I'm thinking of styling like the one above. Why add just one pop of color when you can add two? (That compliment each other of course.)

Forgive me, but I'm feeling a little badass in my new aviator shades. I mean, they are from LOFT, and if that doesn't say 'badass' then I don't know what does. You can't really tell in these pictures, but the stems are neon yellow, which I think is a cool touch.

Also, I'm glad I got to wear my favorite new vest this weekend before this arctic chill set in and outerwear choices now consist of heavy wool coats and well-insulated parkas.
