A one-shot about sleep walking.  It was inspired by a song that I wish I could remember, but also by the wishing well song from Snow White which happened to be stuck in my head one morning when I woke up.

Edit: I took out the lyrics to the Snow White song since it seemed to cause some confusion as to what was actually going on in the story.  Hopefully it reads better now!  This is what happens when I create something on a whim and don’t bother to question my influences…

Doodles

One week I was feeling out of practice and wanted to do some art trades with friends. I got a couple responses (follow them on Twitter! @nilaffle and @kjdawson80) and I really liked the themes we came up with (owl people and haunted bananas). Hopefully I can do more art trades/creative exercises in the future.

Fanart

Well, Pokémon Black and White came out, so Roy has been all about that on his site. I was in a bad drawing funk and wanted to draw something light and non-serious, so he asked me to draw a graphic for his How to Breed Pokémon post. It came out embarrassingly quick — like I have some kind of latent chibi-drawing talent that I was unaware of — but I am pretty happy with it overall. The second piece is a doodle I did, but I can’t remember why. I also colored it but I think the lineart looks better. The third piece is a waaaay more involved pic that Roy is going to use for his Black and White review. It’s my first time taking coloring seriously and it took me a ridiculously long amount of time to finish it (maybe 20+ hours overall.) But it was good practice and I definitely learned a lot.

Misc

This is my submission to Meg and Alice Hunt’s Art for Japan event, after days of trying to figure out what would be the best subject for this sort of event. Instead of drawing attention to the tragedy, I wanted to focus on something that was safe and happy…so of course, critters came to mind. This ultimately came out different than I imagined it in my head but I think I am pretty satisfied with it.

In other news, the long wait for the Nintendo 3DS has come to an end…I got the blue version and spent way too much time playing with the AR features of the console. I feel a little less guilty playing games now that some of my projects are finished. Other stuff on my plate:

- Kotowari illustration
- one-shot mini comic (why do I do this)
- detective girls first chapter (script finished!)
- longer one-shot comic collaboration with a Canadian

…I also plan to set up a new Deviant Art account and stuff soon, not to mention get some paperwork in order to sell prints and things at ConnectiCon (should they ever decide to let registration open for artists!).

I hope this has been enlightening for you all.

Drew this over the weekend and was possibly going to submit it to the Art for Japan charity auction but now am not so sure. Might try to go with something simpler and less abstract.

Both Roy and I caught a cold a couple days ago. Somehow I managed to recover really quickly while Roy kept getting worse. This has made him even more nonsensical lately. Hopefully he will get better before the big Pokemon release on Sunday!

I keep intending to draw one thing and then accidentally drawing something else. Case in point: I meant to draw Catwoman after being inspired by a day of browsing Adam Hughe’s Deviant Art account, but ended up drawing Ann Margret instead (I was using her as a reference.) Drawing from real life is something I need to do more of, so maybe I’ll take a break from the cartoony stuff and focus more on that.

I started some concept sketches for one of the male characters in my story. Then I started to doodle the scene above and got carried away, cropped the document and ultimately lost my concept sketches for him (´Д｀) But there he is…along with a creepy adult-size bear (cat?) costume.

Every Tuesday night is Dessert Club, where an assortment of sweets are sampled from a different place. I always make dinner and we always sit and watch something. Since we have been on a sci-fi kick lately and I’ve never seen the Alien series, my friends decided now was the time to watch ALL of them — one every week — until I am in the know. Tonight was Aliens. It was very damp and firey and inspired me to make a dynamic sketch since I need to work on my figure poses (…also, guns).
