Sweet November Chaos

Another day filled with chaos, confusion and coffee! My oldest son’s school just went from hybrid to full remote for the next couple weeks. He’s in kindergarten so he still requires some assistance with the technology. So here we are. Me working remote, him doing remote learning and then twin 2 year old boys running behind his screen with swords as I chase them to get downstairs. I tell ya, this is damn hard! I mean God created people to do extraordinary things and to accomplish so much but this is just out of my reach! Basically I’m running on Coffee and Chaos these days. And when I say that, coffee is the caffeine that allows me to keep up with the chaos. I am nonstop moving without a chance to even think about anything. Which is probably why I forgot to pick up his school supplies yesterday for remote learning . 👀

I know this is temporary, most difficult things we face in life are. But it’s so easy to lose focus on that and allow the panic and anxiety to fill up. We need to remind ourselves and others around us how this will pass and soon enough we will look back and say “wow I did all that!” And survived!!! But for the moment, I’m going to depend on God, coffee and wine. The trifecta of surviving with young children during a pandemic!

and the occasional red wine.

So keep calm, don’t fight the chaos, dance with it and you will be able to smile through it all.

Dishes in the sink, but Happiness in the heart!

Two years and counting, since little one has taken over our lives and gained full control of how our day goes. Regardless of how many time outs or redirecting it takes, he will always have us in the palm of his hands. Isn't that the truth? Pick and choose your battles they say. Like we really have a choice! I would pick not to deal with tantrums and choose to never see you cry, but lets be honest, that definitely will never be the case! So I pick and choose what I can control, and I ask that you don't judge me. I am a working mom, I leave dishes in the sink, I leave folded laundry in the basket that I will put away when I can, I have dust on my tables and fingerprints on my windows. Because when this little dude wants mommy to play or come see the squirrel on the tree outside our window, this mommy is going to go. I mean lets be serious, Sammy the squirrel is pretty darn cute when nibbling on his little acorn. So I choose to explore and play and watch his imagination take him to places that make me feel like a kid again. After all, he will only be 2 years old once, and this mommy isn't going to miss it.

Sure, there are days that I find myself repeating "one minute please!" to the point where I feel like crawling out of my skin or taking a full sprint down the street just to get away and have a moment to breath. I'm human. I'm a mother. It's OK. I do have some patience, but for some reason it doesn't show up all the time. So the days where it leaves me in the wind, are the days I need to put things back into perspective. He is 2 years old. ONLY 2 years old. He has so much to learn and so much to experience and you need to support him and guide him so he can become the best him possible. Embrace the whining and the crying as much as you do the laughter and silliness. Because regardless if he's being lovey or fresh, at the end of it all his little heart is bigger than you and this world. So when he puts those little arms around you, it reminds you of exactly why you leave the dishes, or the laundry, and skip out on the vacuuming. Today we are going outside to throw snowballs instead of mommy cooking. Today we are going to tickle and laugh and read books instead of cleaning out the bathroom closet. Because making you happy is MY most important job. Everything else comes second.

One day you won't need me. The day will come that you will still be my first, but I will become your second. But today I am still your first so I will be here for you, however you need me, whenever you need me, wherever you need me. You give me purpose and for that I am grateful little man. So pick and choose your battles, pick the happy moments and choose the laughter because at the end of the day those are the greatest memories we will ever have. The rest can wait, it will eventually get done. But the world can not wait for this little super human, so put on your capes and be the most super mom (or dad) you can be!

Hug just a little longer

There is so much work for parents to do, so much that sometimes we forgot what we "need" to do versus what we "have" to do. Confusing right? Well let me put it this way, yes we have to do laundry so our kids don't end up being the smelly kid in class, and we have to cook dinner so our family doesn't starve, and we have to make sure lunches are packed and teeth are brushed because well, that's what we HAVE to do. But what we NEED to do is hug a little longer.

All our children need love and affection

no matter their age or personalities.

They might fight a hug because you are

interrupting their TV show or push you

away because they are focused on their

tower building skills, but as parents it is

our responsibility to ensure they are receiving

the affection they need to survive in this very

difficult world. They need that hug. They

need to know that someone loves them,

someone cares and someone will be there

whether THEY want them or not. Give your

child the confidence they require to tackle life,

with one hug at a time.

Let's be honest, sometimes the hugs aren't just for them, we need them too! The hug and love from a child can you give you the strength of an ox! It's amazing the how the love between us can impose so many positive things on our lives. So when it's time to give that big squeeze, make sure to hold on just a little longer and always, always be the last to let go.

☆Super powers are within us all, we just need to learn what they are.☆
