How wonderful it would be if you could just laze around in bed the whole day, get up late just to have a quick visit to the loo and get back into that warm comfy bed and snuggle under the covers for another hour or so, till you felt that it was time to get up, and you got up of your own accord, and not because there was some external pressure that forced you up?

The stuff of dreams.  Most people achieve that state of nirvana only if they strike a particularly large lottery, or have a rich relative that just died and named them the sole beneficiary.  How else then does one reach that seemingly unattainable level of richness?  Answer: they work for it.  Not so much by being a salaried person, slogging away to make your boss or company rich, but by working for yourself.

But you say, you need money to make money!  Money to buy stocks, to set up an office, to get staff, to advertise and get customers! 

Not all the time.

There are ways to make money at home with only a little investment.  The rest is up to you, your brains and hard work.  No, we are not talking of robbing a bank or starting a con-game, like a Ponzi investment scheme.  The method we are looking at is making money online, via your computer through the internet.  And who’s going to teach you? 

The answer is easy: you teach yourself.  Look through the internet.  Google for “make money online“, “internet marketing“, “Google adsense“.  There are tons of free material that are available that you can make full use of, and if you follow their methods, the chances of you making money, and real good money at that, are pretty high.  Learn from the writers, their mistakes, and adapt yourself so you don’t make depressing and time-wasting mistakes.

Don’t resign from that job you are holding just yet.  Start your online money-making job on a part-time basis first.   That’s how most people who ultimately succeeded did it.  You need to realize that not everybody can do everything.  It is when you see the money coming in that you can start to plan for the future, and then decide whether you want to make money full-time online.  Good luck!

I own a few minisites on the WordPress platform. Blog themes are free and I have utilised those created by Courtney Tuttle (thanks, Court!) which are said to be SEO optimized. I have found that by using these themes and faithfully following what he has suggested insofar as optimizing my posts go, I have managed to get some of the sites on the 1st page of search engine results for a few keywords. And this was within a couple of months.

Revenue from my sites has solely been through Google adsense since I started these sites way back in early 2008.  Income has been rather small but pretty regular, and not enough for me to consider going into blogging as a full time job.  As with a lot of hobbies, after a while enthusiasm faded somewhat and the regularity and frequency of blogging dropped tremendously.

But the amazing discovery is this: while my posts have been very sparse the past 4 months or so because of other distractions/commitments, I am very surprised to discover that my Google Adsense income has not gone down much. And best of all, last month was my best month for adsense income! And this was for minimal work done in the past few months! If this is not a good example of residual income online without much work at all I don’t know what this is.

A discovery like this really gets one fired up with enthusiasm. Just think of the potential for indefinite good income. All I need is a bit more brushing-up of my other sites and we should be on our way….

There are so many fields in internet marketing to choose from. The following two are only just two of a few major fields. One can concentrate on one type, or try both at the same time. It depends on your time and degree of interest. Generally it is advised that you concentrate on one type, get all you can out of it, and then, when everything is rock steady i.e. when the dough comes rolling in, look at the other opportunities out there.  Focus.  The idea is to focus on only one first.

Google has recently emailed all adsense users about the launch of interest-based advertising.

Interest-based advertising will allow advertisers to show ads based on a user’s previous interactions with them in terms of types of ads visited, which will place the user in specific interest categories, resulting in them seeing ads more relevant to their interests.

One of the greatest of boons for content providers or information providers who wish to continue supporting their work has been the ability to capitalize on their work by using advertising media.  The foremost of these advertising giants has been Google Adsense.  Chris Pirillo is one such content provider.  In his YouTube presentation he talks about how he can earn from Adsense.  He also discusses how placement and size of adsense advertisements can affect the earnings by making it more conducive for readers to click on the adsense ads without having to tell them to do so. The purpose of this alt attribute is to show to the reader what an image is about when and if  the browser has difficulty displaying the image on the page loaded.

You have to ensure that the alt text you type in is short and relevant to the context of your post. 
Relevancy: Thus you do not want to put an image of a bank building and describe it as a weapon when you are writing a post on greening the environment, unless for some odd and unfathomable reason you feel that all the three are related and relevant.

Shortness of text: too short is confusing.  Too long is too long. For example, in a blog about face fillers, the alt text you type into an image could be:

face - too short
wrinkles on face - relevant and just nice
wrinkles on the face which will appear with time and sun exposure and make you feel and look even older unless you care to do something about it like having a juvaderm face filler as detailed in juvadermguide.com - a way bit too long.

Adding alt text is a simple effort.  Simply use the alt attribute on your image:

for example, if you are inserting an image for a post or blog about creating longer eyelashes.
If you have relevant, brief, concise and clear alt text, that may help your search engine rankings, as the images on your page promote and enhance your keywords.
