What Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green did as a rookie was impressive.

With no offseason, a fellow rookie quarterback and a first year offensive coordinator, Green became the first 1,000-yard rookie receiver since Marques Colston did it back in 2006.

[Of course, if Atlanta's Julio Jones had stayed healthy for 16 games, he would have likely finished with 1,000 yards last year as well.]

When asked by Dan Hoard of Bengals.com, Green was very complimentary of new teammate and rookie receiver Mohamed Sanu, who slipped to the Bengals in the third round.

“Man, that guy is smooth,” said Green. “He works the middle really well. A lot of people have questioned his speed, but the guy has ‘football speed.’ It’s just like myself. A lot of people say that he didn’t run the fastest, but you see him on the field and he’s fluid in-and-out of his breaks, he catches everything with his hands, and he attacks the ball. He’s going to be a special one.”

Sanu had 115 receptions, fourth in college football, for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns with Rutgers last season.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun May 27, 2012 10:30 am

Undrafted rookie free agent Vontaze Burfict has shed more than 15 pounds and reported to minicamp at 248 pounds, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“He’s a better conditioned athlete now than he was at the combine and at ASU in March. If he continues to go down that path, he seems bright enough to learn. He seems willing to want change this image people have of him,” Lewis said. “He can be a good football player. Learn to bend his knees, play behind his pads, strike people within the whistles and life is good.”

A lot has gone wrong for Burfict to make him a possible first-round pick to go undrafted. But if he can turn things around, he'll be a huge steal for the Bengals.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sat May 12, 2012 8:27 pm
