In my 2013 NFL mock draft, I have the Browns addressing their lack of playmakers on the perimeter of their offense by selecting USC wide receiver Robert Woods.

Going into this year, however, Travis Benjamin, their fourth-round pick, may have an opportunity to start as a rookie.

"I would say so," [coach Pat] Shurmur said (of Benjamin's ability to contribute right away), per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "I saw a lot of good stuff from Travis this weekend, and I feel like he'll only continue to get better."

Last year, the Browns averaged only 206.3 passing yards per game, which was 25th in the NFL, and threw only 16 passing touchdowns. Greg Little led the team in receiving with 61 receptions for 709 yards in 2011.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Mon May 14, 2012 10:15 am

With 10 days to go until the 2012 NFL Draft, Kevin Hanson has updated his three-round mock draft.

Here are his picks for the Browns:

1 (4). Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama: Based on talent alone, Richardson should be a top-five pick, however, it is easy to argue that no running back should be taken this high and the Browns can go in a few different directions. If they don't draft Richardson, the likely choice will come down to LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill or Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon. As far as Richardson goes, he's a physical freak with a rare combination of size, strength and speed that is capable of handling the pounding that an every-down back takes in the NFL. (In the second round, I have the Browns taking a quarterback.)

1 (22). Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor: Wright's "official" time (4.61) in the forty at the combine may have disappointed, but he plays a lot faster in pads and he ran raster at his Pro Day last month. Wright, who also played basketball for Baylor in 2008, was highly productive in his collegiate career and he led the team in receiving all four seasons. Based on how this mock is playing itself out, the Browns add two talented and productive playmakers in Richardson and Wright.

2 (37). Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State: With their top three picks, the Browns add two playmakers in the first round (Richardson and Wright) and a strong-armed (yet 28-year-old) quarterback and former minor league pitcher. Only Houston's Case Keenum threw for more yards than Weeden (4,727) last year and three quarterbacks threw more touchdowns (37) than Weeden, who was tied for fourth with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.

3 (67). Jamell Fleming, CB, Oklahoma: With decent size (5-11, 206 pounds), Fleming is a solid if not spectacular option at cornerback, but an upgrade over Sheldon Brown.

Thoughts?
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:55 pm

Of the quarterback-needy teams, the Browns appear to be the best-positioned when it comes to having the ammunition to pull off a trade with the Rams for the No. 2 pick in this year's draft and the right to select Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

After all, the Browns are one of two teams with multiple first-round picks (No. 4 and 22 overall). Of course, the Patriots, the other team with two (both late) first-rounders, are not in the market to trade up for RG3.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, however, the Browns are unwilling to trade their second first-round pick to move up a couple of spots.

At this point, Thomas considers the Redskins to be "the frontrunner."
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Mar 04, 2012 3:19 pm
