Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who was arrested in April for marijuana possession, was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence and attemping to elude police, according to Fox 10 in Mobile (AL).

Fairley ties running back Mikel LeShoure for most offseason arrests, but Johnny Culbreath was also arrested this offseason. All three of LeShoure and Culbreath's arrests were marijuana-related charges.

All three players were drafted by the Lions in 2011: Fairley (first round), LeShoure (second) and Culbreath (seventh). Oh, and one of the other two draft picks from last year, Titus Young, is suspended from offseason workouts for sucker-punching safety Louis Delmas.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun May 27, 2012 11:48 am

For the third time in four games, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson finished with more than 200 receiving yards in a game.

In tonight's loss to the Saints, my pick to win it all, Johnson caught 12 of 15 targets and finished with 211 yards and two touchdowns.

Before this year, only five other receivers have had 200-plus receiving yards in a postseason game in NFL history.

In his past four games counting tonight's game, Megatron has a total of 36 receptions for 771 yards and six touchdowns. He has at least 102 receiving yards and one touchdown in all four games during that span.

Johnson led the NFL in receiving yards (1,681), was second in receiving touchdowns (16) and fourth in receptions (96) during the regular season. All three of those were career highs and Johnson will be the consensus top receiver drafted in fantasy football leagues in 2012.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Jan 08, 2012 12:10 am

Lions receiver Calvin Johnson scored eight touchdowns (two per game) in his first four games of the season, which was something no other player had done to begin a season.

Then things slowed down dramatically for Megatron as he scored only five touchdowns from Week 5 to Week 14.

Even worse, he scored only one touchdown in his previous five games coming into Week 15. During that five-game span, Johnson also had no 100-yard games.

With a career-best performance, Johnson delivered for fantasy owners at exactly the right time.

In today's win over the Raiders, Johnson had nine receptions for 214 yards and two touchdowns. That is 33 fantasy points in standard leagues or 42 points in point-per-reception (PPR) leagues.

On the season, Johnson has 81 receptions for 1,335 yards and 14 touchdowns, all of which set career highs.

Johnson has two decent matchups to close the season against the Chargers and Packers.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Dec 18, 2011 10:11 pm

Going into today's game against the Panthers, it seemed likely that a Lions running back would have a big game.

After all, no team had allowed more fantasy points to opposing running backs this season going into today's game. That won't change.

While most (including our site) had Maurice Morris ranked higher than Kevin Smith, both of whom were inside our top 40 fantasy running backs for Week 11, it was Smith that made it look easy.

Smith rushed 16 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns while also catching four passes for 61 yards and a score. His 201 yards from scrimmage and three scores means that he finished with 38 fantasy points in standard-scoring leagues (or 42 points in point-per-reception leagues).

There is little doubt that Smith will be the most widely added player this week and, of course, he will appear on our waiver-wire list to come out late Monday or early Tuesday.

That said, let's put it into perspective.

The Lions are a pass-first team and the Panthers run defense is absolutely pathetic. They started their eighth different linebacker in today's game and have allowed a running back to rush for at least 85 yards in every game this season except one.

We will rank Smith as the highest of the Lions running backs in Week 12, but Smith should find it much tougher against the unbeaten Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Nov 20, 2011 4:59 pm
