With 10 days to go until the 2012 NFL Draft, Kevin Hanson has updated his three-round mock draft.

Here are his picks for the Jaguars:

1 (7). Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina: If Blackmon is still available at No. 7, the Jags would likely opt for getting their "franchise" quarterback a legitimate weapon in the passing game and they might consider Notre Dame's Michael Floyd here. (As bad as Blaine Gabbert looked as a rookie last season, in his defense the Jags arguably have the league's worst receiving corps even after
signing Laurent Robinson via free agency). With the depth of this wide receiver class, however, the Jags will have the opportunity to add a playmaker early in the second round and/or later in the draft. Considering the Jags have ranked in the bottom 10 in sacks for the past three years in a row, Ingram gives them an athletic pass-rusher with a high motor.

2 (38). Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina: The Jaguars ranked dead last in the NFL in passing offense (156.9 yards per game) in 2011. Although they gave free-agent Laurent Robinson big money, they still have one of the league's worst receiving corps. Jeffery slimmed down for the combine and his pro day, where he ran well, and he gives the Jags a big red-zone target.

3 (70). Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia: Boykin gives the Jags secondary depth in a division where they will have to face Andrew Luck, Jake Locker and Matt Schaub six times per year.

Thoughts?
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:00 pm

Free-agent receiver Lee Evans will sign a one-year deal with the Jaguars on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Not only did Evans struggle to stay healthy last year, he struggled to make an impact when he did play.

In nine regular-season games, Evans had four receptions for 74 yards. In two postseason games, Evans had four receptions for 69 yards, but he dropped a go-ahead touchdown reception in the AFC Championship Game.

With arguably the league's worst receiving corps (and quarterback), the Jaguars' leading receiver in 2011 was tight end Marcedes Lewis, who led the team with 460 receiving yards. Mike Thomas led wideouts in receiving yards (415).

Earlier this offseason, the Jaguars signed Laurent Robinson to a five-year deal.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Apr 15, 2012 2:39 pm

Heading into the final week as the NFL's leading rusher, Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew was unlikely to be caught.

When both of the next two leading rushers (Philadelphia's LeSean McCoy and Houston's Arian Foster) were inactive for today's games, it became a certainty.

That said, Jones-Drew saved his best for last as he finished with a season-high 169 rushing yards against the Colts today.

Not only did Jones-Drew close out the season with three straight 100-yard games, but he had at least 80 rushing yards in all but one game this season. No player has had more 80-yard games in a season than MJD.

This was the third straight season with 1,300-plus yards for MJD and he set a career high and franchise record this season (1,606 rushing yards). The previous franchise mark was 1,572 by Fred Taylor (2003). Both Taylor and MJD have three 1,300-yard seasons each.

In addition, Jones-Drew finished with 43 receptions for 374 yards and 11 total touchdowns this season.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Jan 01, 2012 6:30 pm

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew entered today as the NFL's leading rusher and extended his lead after today's 103-yard performance.

Jones-Drew finished today's game with 24 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. Through 15 games, he has 318 carries for 1,437 yards, both career highs, and eight touchdowns.

In addition, he added six receptions for 21 yards and now has 42 receptions for 370 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

By rushing for 80-plus yards for the 14th time this season, Pocket Hercules did something that only four other running backs have done. The following running backs have rushed for 80-plus yards 14 times in a season (since 1960): Eric Dickerson (1984), Barry Sanders (1997), Corey Dillon (2004) and Chris Johnson (2009).

If MJD rushes for 80-plus yards against the Colts next week, he will be the only player to do so 15 times in one season. (The Colts rank 29th in the NFL against the run.)
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sun Dec 25, 2011 12:49 am
