Four months from Minnesota's regular-season opener against Jacksonville, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson worked out for the Minnesota media today.

Peterson, who tore his ACL and MCL at the end of the 2011 season, had surgery on December 30th and expects to be ready for the season opener.

"I will be surprised (if I don't play in the first game)," Peterson said, per Judd Zulgad of ESPN1500.com. "I will be very surprised. I've been ahead of the schedule since day one. The staff here, the staff down in Houston, they've been doing a great job with just pushing me, pushing me. But having that limit on it and knowing that, 'Hey, Adrian, I know you want to do this, but you've just got to play it slow and it will come.'

"From square one, I've been ahead of the curve. Me personally, because that's my goal (to return for the opener), I set my expectations high and my goals high. That first game against Jacksonville I plan on being back so that will be disappointing if I'm not."

Since entering the league in 2007, Peterson leads the NFL in rushing yards (6,752) and rushing touchdowns (64). Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew is second in rushing yards (5,913) and Atlanta's Michael Turner is second in rushing touchdowns (51).
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Wed May 09, 2012 6:49 pm

With 10 days to go until the 2012 NFL Draft, Kevin Hanson has updated his three-round mock draft.

Here are his picks for the Vikings:

1 (3). Matt Kalil, OT, USC: Without question, Kalil is the top offensive tackle prospect in this year's draft class. Some have described Kalil as the best left tackle prospect since Joe Thomas. Kalil has size (6-6, 295 pounds), pedigree (brother Ryan is the Panthers' Pro Bowl center) and athleticism. Kalil is one of 15 offensive line prospects to run a sub-5.0 forty since 2006. Considering only four teams allowed more sacks than the Vikings last year, this pick a no-brainer.

2 (35). Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama: No defense allowed more passing touchdowns (34) and had fewer interceptions (eight) than the Vikings in 2011. After taking a franchise left tackle in the first round, they start to address their secondary here with Jenkins, a first-round talent that has had his fair share of character issues.

3 (66). Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State: Not the most explosive receiver, but Quick has great size (6-3 1/2, 220) and fair speed (4.55 forty). Although he only played one year of high school football, the former basketball player has excellent body control and good hands.

Thoughts?
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:54 pm

An MRI has confirmed that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has a torn ACL and MCL, according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN1500.com.

Per Pelissero, Peterson won't have surgery for several weeks and he does not have a torn PCL.

Typically the injury takes a minimum of eight months (but usually longer) to heal, which puts the start of the 2012 in jeopardy for Peterson. If/when he returns to the field in 2012, Peterson likely won't be nearly as effective of a runner as he has been in the past. Assuming he makes a full recovery, which is not guaranteed, we may not see that until the 2013 season.

Before suffering the injury, Peterson finished today's game with 12 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown in addition to two receptions for 14 yards. Backup Toby Gerhart carried the ball 11 times for a career-high 109 yards.

If your fantasy league runs through Week 17, Gerhart does not have a great matchup against the Bears but he will obviously get the majority of work.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sat Dec 24, 2011 11:45 pm

Although it seemed unlikely that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would play this week with a high-ankle sprain, he has officially been ruled out for Week 12.

That means, Toby Gerhart will get the majority of the workload although the Falcons have been tough against the run this season.

They have allowed no 100-yard rushers and only one running back to gain over 85 yards (LeSean McCoy, 95, in Week 2).

After removing the running backs that played on Thursday, Gerhart is still outside my top 20 running backs (at No. 23) for the week in my updated running back rankings.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Sat Nov 26, 2011 1:36 pm
