This week’s new Online Time Trial drops the Ford GT ’17 onto the Red Bull Ring with Sports Medium tires. It’s the kind of pairing that tends to fill up leaderboards in a hurry, with a quick car on a short, flowing circuit.

The Red Bull Ring packs a lot into a small space. It’s one of the shortest tracks on the current Formula 1 calendar, set high in the Austrian hills, with enough elevation change and heavy braking zones to keep the lap interesting from the first corner to the last.

A short lap also means plenty of repetitions, so chasing the final few tenths is where most of your time is going to go.

One Week Left at Le Mans

There’s also still a week to run on last week’s event, which sends Gr.1 hypercars around the full 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit on Racing Soft tires.

That one closes on June 25. The Porsche 963 was the early favorite when the event opened, and not much has changed since: it remained the car to beat and still dominates the leaderboards.

Once an event closes, prizes go out based on how close you got to the fastest lap: gold for anyone within 3% of the top time (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr) and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).

New events arrive every Thursday, and each runs for two weeks with the oldest dropping off as a fresh one appears. The next new Online Time Trial lands on June 25.

A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges goes live this Friday, June 19, when your console clock ticks past midnight. Five fresh events, seven days to work through them, and bonus reward tickets waiting at the completion milestones.

Weekly Challenges open up once you’ve finished the GT Cafe career through Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie. Each set pairs four standard World Circuits races with a single Special Event, and the reward tickets climb in value as you clear one, three, and five events. They land in your Gifts section, so redeem them before the set expires. Across a typical week, the cash and prizes come to somewhere around 1.3m credits.

This Week’s Highlights

The Renault Twingo is back in the headline slot, and the affection for the little Renault hasn’t dimmed since it joined the game in the 1.69 update back in April.

This week it takes the Special Event: a one-make over three laps at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. At 27,000cr the win is the smallest purse on the schedule, but three laps in the Twingo is also the quickest box to tick.

The big money sits at the other end of the list. The World Touring Car 800 at the Watkins Glen Long Course runs 10 laps for the headline 200,000cr, capped at ≤800PP on racing tires. It also carries 7x fuel consumption and 6x tire wear.

The most unusual event of the set is the World Rally Challenge at Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise. Gr.B rally cars turned loose on the big-city expressways of Tokyo is a long way from where these things are used to being, and with 8x fuel and 7x tire wear across 10 laps, the city is going to chew through rubber in a hurry. It pays 65,000cr for the win.

Rounding out the week, the European Sunday Cup 400 opens proceedings at Goodwood over four laps for 52,000cr, while the Pickup Truck Race drops the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and the Ford F-150 Raptor into a single-lap dash around Fishermans Ranch for 32,000cr.

The wait that Fanatec teased back in April is over…almost.

The latest Fanatec App (version 1.5.1.2) ships firmware that finally brings FullForce to the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel bases, the affordable end of the company’s officially-licensed lineup. The only issue is it doesn’t work in Gran Turismo 7 yet.

We flagged this update as coming when Fanatec announced it in April, alongside the power bumps for the pricier ClubSport DD and DD+ bases. Now the firmware is actually here. To get it, download and install the latest Fanatec App, which walks you through flashing the base.

For the uninitiated, FullForce is Fanatec’s name for the high-frequency force feedback effects that ride on top of the main directional forces (like curb texture and road surface detail) sent straight through the motor.

It’s the same technology that arrived in Gran Turismo 7 with the Spec III update last December. On a 5 Nm or 8 Nm base that was never built for it, the extra layer of detail is a welcome upgrade.

The Catch

Because of the way Gran Turismo 7 handles specific licensed hardware, FullForce is not currently active on the GT DD Pro when you’re actually playing the game. Fanatec says support is “coming in a future update,” but that’s up to Polyphony Digital, and there’s no date attached.

It’s a little messy, as the wheel everyone bought for Gran Turismo now supports the feature that Gran Turismo added in December, except the two can’t talk to each other yet.

GT DD Pro owners can feel FullForce in other supported sims today, just not in the one with its logo on the box. This is a “your hardware is ready, your game isn’t” situation, and the fix has to come from Polyphony’s side.

If You’re Shopping

If you’re buying rather than upgrading, it’s worth weighing the GT DD Pro against its bigger sibling.

We never reviewed the GT DD Pro itself, but we did put the Gran Turismo DD Extreme through a full review, and it’s the more capable option. It’s built on the DD+ base, FullForce is already established on it, and the same April update pushed it to 18 Nm of torque.

The Engineering Behind It

The more interesting part of Fanatec’s announcement is how the feature got onto these bases at all, because they were never designed with it in mind.

Unlike the ClubSport DD and the newer Podium DD bases, which run on a single high-performance microcontroller, the CSL DD and GT DD Pro split their processing across two separate chips.

Getting FullForce to run across both of those controllers without adding latency was, by Fanatec’s own account, the hard part. The team also rebuilt how the base’s internal systems pass data around to make room for the upcoming Podium Pedals and a new pedal curve selection option in the Tuning Menu.

There’s a bonus for anyone running the 8 Nm Boost Kit. Optimizations discovered during Podium DD development carried over, and while peak torque stays at 8 Nm, holding torque (the force the wheel can sustain when you’re loading it up, rather than the brief peaks) climbs from 6 Nm to 8 Nm. You should feel that most during long high-G corners and quick direction changes. As a side effect, the separate Peak and Linear FFS settings disappear on Boost Kit configurations, since they’re no longer needed.

FullForce works on every CSL DD and GT DD Pro base, including older ones still using the QR1 quick release. That said, Fanatec recommends QR2 for the full effect, as the newer connection preserves more of the fine detail FullForce is meant to deliver.

The Waiting Continues

FullForce on the GT DD Pro is good news that landed slightly early.

The hardware is sorted, the engineering work is done, and the feature is live in other titles right now.

Whether it’s worth jumping on today depends entirely on how patient you are waiting for GT7 to catch up. We’ll update when Polyphony flips the switch. In the meantime, the Sim Racing Hardware forums are the place to compare notes if you’ve already flashed the new firmware.

A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday.

The most peculiar wrinkle this week is bolted to Race B, which carries a “Reward Increased +1000%” bonus. In other words, the credit payouts here are far higher than a normal Daily Race. (Update: the 1000% bonus has since been removed.)

Expect these lobbies to be busy as players pile in chasing the incentive, and don’t be surprised to see even more aggressive driving than usual down in the lower-ranked rooms.

The good news is that it’s a solid combination on its own merits: five laps of the Tokyo Expressway South layout (running counterclockwise) in Gr.3 machinery on Racing Mediums. BOP is set to (H), it’s a rolling start, and brake balance is the only setting left open. Payout aside, you should have fun with it.

Race A is the timely one. It takes you to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on its full GP layout without the chicane, the same week the real circuit hosted its Formula 1 grand prix where Lewis Hamilton took his first race victory in a Ferrari.

You’ll be going quite a bit slower here in the Alpine A110 ’17, a featherweight French coupe that rewards momentum rather than muscle, but you’ll arguably be having more fun with it. It’s five laps, a rolling start on Sports Mediums, with BOP (M) and settings specified.

Race C is the week’s endurance-flavored closer: 15 laps of Sardegna’s Road Track B in Gr.4 cars. The multipliers do the heavy lifting, with fuel use doubled (2x) and tire wear cranked up to 4x, and there’s a single mandatory pit stop to factor in. BOP sits at (L), the tires are Racing Hards, and brake balance is again the only open setting off a rolling start.

Polyphony Digital has attached the Gran Turismo name to one of the most prestigious events in all of classic motoring. The studio has organized a new official offshoot of the historic Mille Miglia, called the “1000 Miglia Gran Turismo Experience”, and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi is in Italy right now driving it himself.

An Official Gran Turismo Event on Real Roads

The Mille Miglia (or 1000 Miglia) began as a road race run between Brescia and Rome from 1927 to 1957, and these days it survives as a rally for historic cars, with entry restricted to vehicles which participated in those original races. That exclusivity is part of the appeal, but it also keeps a lot of beautiful machinery on the sidelines.

That is the gap Polyphony has stepped into. The 1000 Miglia Gran Turismo Experience is a new event the studio has organized in collaboration with the Mille Miglia, built specifically to let a wider range of classic cars join the convoy. The 2026 running is the first edition.

It’s a full-circle moment. “Gran Turismo” has always meant grand touring based upon historic European traditions, and now the virtual franchise is lending the name back to an actual grand tour across Italy.

Yamauchi and Hizal Behind the Wheel

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi is helping to kick off the inaugural event behind the wheel of a classic A80 Toyota Supra.

He is sharing driving with Mikail Hizal, the Turkish-German racer who took the GT Sport Nations Cup world title in Monaco in 2019 with one of the most dominant displays the World Tour has seen. After completing his engineering studies, Hizal is now working for Polyphony Digital.

Of course, this is not Yamauchi’s first time on the route, either.

He is a Mille Miglia veteran who has run it before, including a 2019 outing with GT champion Igor Fraga in an Alfa Romeo 4C.

The Supra they are running this year belongs to Toyota, which has used this first Gran Turismo Experience to make its own bit of history. This is the first time a Japanese manufacturer has entered cars in a 1000 Miglia event, and Toyota has brought five of them, including a first-generation Crown RS, Sports 800, 2000GT, A80 Supra, and Lexus LFA.

A Familiar Square…

One stop on the route carries extra weight for long-time readers: the team pulled into the Piazza del Campo in Siena, a name some will recall from the turbulent build-up to Gran Turismo 5’s release.

Piazza del Campo was revealed as a karting track for Gran Turismo 5 in 2010, shown at Gamescom and in a karting trailer with Siena’s famous square recreated in full. The trouble was the flags. They belong to the city’s contrade, the districts that contest the Palio horse race, and Polyphony was alleged to have used them (and references to the Palio itself) without permission. The body that guards the Palio threatened legal action, and Sony agreed to remove the flags.

The flags were only the beginning. By the time GT5 shipped, the entire karting track had quietly disappeared, leaving a photo-mode location and a short cutscene of the city as the only proof it ever existed.

It remains one of the most rare tracks in a modern Gran Turismo title, available only briefly to the public in a Gamescom demo.

What It Might Mean for Gran Turismo

It is tempting to read a partnership like this as a hint of things to come in the games, but it is worth remembering that Polyphony’s track record with real-world tie-ins is mixed at best.

One cautionary tale is Pikes Peak. The famous Colorado hill climb turned up in Gran Turismo 2 in a cut-down form and then disappeared. Polyphony later sponsored the real event and, by 2017, was reported to hold the exclusive rights to it for games. Yamauchi himself said he wanted the climb back in the series. Years and two full games later, it still has not returned.

That said, the Mille Miglia is not just another logo on a sponsor board. This is clearly an event that means a great deal to Yamauchi personally and it sits much closer to the core of what Gran Turismo is than a hill climb event. When a partnership lines up that neatly with a studio’s founding idea, and with its founder’s own enthusiasm, it is not a stretch to imagine there is more to come.

With the real-world 24 Hours of Le Mans running this very weekend, Gran Turismo 7 sends you out onto the full 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit in Gr.1 hypercars on Racing Soft tires.

Of course, four of the eligible cars just arrived to the game today. Update 1.70 brought four new LMH and LMDh prototypes into the game: the Porsche 963 ’24, Ferrari 499P ’23, BMW M Hybrid V8 ’25 and Peugeot 9X8 ’25. They join the Toyota GR010 HYBRID ’21, and all five are eligible here.

Le Mans is everywhere this week, with the circuit also taking center stage in the Weekly Challenges, so there’s a heavy focus on La Sarthe across the board. These cars were built to race here, which makes the pairing about as natural as GT7 combos get.

As for which one to run, everyone will have a favorite. But an early look at the leaderboard suggests the Porsche 963 is the car to beat.

There’s also still a week to go on last week’s event, which puts the Toyota 86 GRMN ’16 around Deep Forest Raceway Reverse on Comfort Medium tires. That one closes on June 18.

This Week’s Highlights

The Special Event is the obvious place to start, and this week it’s a Mission Challenge (“One-Lap Magic”) built around one of the headline cars from Update 1.70.

You’re handed the brand-new Peugeot 9X8 ’25 and let loose at Spa-Francorchamps with a single objective: overtake every car on track before you cross the line, in one lap. It’s about the easiest way to get a feel for one of the new prototypes, and a gold run is worth 30,000cr.

The Gr.1 Prototype Series heads to the 24 Heures du Mans circuit for a seven-lap run worth 260,000cr, comfortably the biggest payday of the week and timed to land alongside the real 24 Hours of Le Mans, which gets under way this weekend. With 4x fuel use and 6x tire wear, it’s the closest thing on the card to a proper endurance test, and the new hypercars are eligible under the 950PP cap.

From there the rewards taper off. The Ferrari Circuit Challenge at Yas Marina is the second-biggest earner at 90,000cr over five laps, followed by the Japanese FR Challenge 450 at Suzuka for 40,000cr. The Sunday Cup at BB Raceway rounds things out, and at two laps for road cars it’s the gentlest event of the set, though its 5,000cr win reward is the smallest on offer by some distance.

The latest new Gran Turismo 7 content update is now with us, following an almost three-week long period of anticipation and hype after being partly revealed at the GT World Series in Milan back in May.

It’s going to take PlayStation 4 owners a lot longer than usual to download the update, with 1.70 coming in at just a little under 8GB on the eighth-generation console. On PS5 though it’s closer to what we’d expect from a five-car update at just over 1.6GB. We’re not wholly sure why there’s such a significant difference this time round.

Of course the usual update rhythm applies, and we already knew quite a lot about the contents following the regular pre-update announcement yesterday, but there’s always more information only available when the patch notes land. Read on to discover all!

We’ve known about the cars since May 23, so there’s not a lot left bar the rather unexpected pricings:

Previously it’s been the case that racing cars have had higher prices than peers where they have been more successful. However all four of the new LMH/LMDh cars come in at 3,000,000cr, matching the price of the existing Toyota GR010, despite only two of them having had major success on either side of the Atlantic. The Safety Car’s price, about a quarter more that the road car on which it’s based, is exactly what we expected though.

This actually makes 1.70 the third priciest update of all thus far. Even if you buy only one of each — and each car only has one livery/number — it’s 12,380,000cr, placing it just behind the 1.20 update and the record-holding 1.55 update, both of which were skewed by a single car.

We already learned about the five new races yesterday, heavy on the Gr.1 as you’d expect, but now we have lengths and winner’s prize money numbers too. Along with the second new collection-based Extra Menu Book in a row there’s now confirmation of the time-limited Seasonal Menu, although it’s a little different, and a fifth new Circuit Experience in the last five updates.

The three Gr.1 races aren’t quite the money-spinners we’d hoped, but nonetheless do press the four new cars into action right away — even if the 950PP cap for the events makes them a little outclassed. Around 200,000cr for what’s going to be 25 minutes’ work each time is a middling return.

There’s not a new race suitable for the 992 Safety Car, with the other two events seemingly plucked from nowhere. They do at least feature two unusual circuits, with Eiger’s reverse course up for the European FR Challenge 550 (watch out for the hairpins going uphill!) offering up to 40,000cr and Fishermans Ranch in a one-lap Pickup Truck Race for 32,000cr.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Circuit Experience

Fishermans Ranch also features in the fifth new Circuit Experience in a row. That takes you back to one of the trickier original Circuit Experiences but now in the reverse direction.

You’ll need to watch out for that leap at the top of the circuit, as the landing zone is pretty short especially in the Lancia Delta HF Integrale WRC. In total there’s seven sectors worth up to 6,000cr each time and a full lap awarding 30,000cr for a gold time, but it’s the bonuses that entice again.

Pass every sector and the lap and you’ll earn 600,000cr, while there’s another 2,000,000cr on top of that if you make all of those passes gold ones.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Extra Menu

After months without an Extra Menu we get two in two updates. This one will have you collecting three 2016 LMP1 hybrids — the Audi R18, Porsche 919, and Toyota TS050 — with a Six-Star Roulette ticket as the reward.

Unusually, this one will ask you to collect four cars rather than just three, with the four being all of the new hypercars. This is again time-limited, so you’ve got slightly under three weeks to collect all them with another Six-Star Roulette ticket for completion.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Power Pack Changes

There’s no major changes compared to the previous update, but there’s a couple of important new details. That includes access to detailed settings when you use one of your own garage cars instead of the preset cars, as well as Race Shop being added for garage cars to allow you to pick up tyres and fine-tuning components without having to back all the way out.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Engine Swaps

Despite the lull in updates — and presumably until the next one, likely at the end of July — it’s just a five-swap update this time round.

The crown for wildest swap goes to the Toyota RAV4 Adventure, which gets an 840hp supercharged V8 lump from the Dodge Demon Challenger to quintuple its power output. Yikes.

Elsewhere there’s two new homes each for two other engines. You can make your own first- and second-generation Audi TT-RS with a swap from the Audi Sport Quattro rally car, while the Nissan GT-R’s VR38DETT now goes into the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak and Renault Espace F1.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Other Changes

Pikes Peak finally makes it into GT7, but only as a new Scapes location. There’s 11 spots around the infamous Colorado mountain’s treacherous road ascent, including one previously used to promote the Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo way back in May 2022 but unavailable to players until now.

Otherwise changes are few and far between. In game terms the biggest is probably a new opening movie for Sport Mode races — we assume meaning the GTWS movie, which should therefore debut this weekend with the new Exhibition season.

As ever, there’ll be some changes in the update not specifically mentioned in the patch notes that include things like new “Real Car” paints. We’ve spotted new reds from Renault and Yangwang, new yellows from Mazda and Renault, several new blues from Mazda and Renault, and yet more white/black/gray shades from Renault.

After seven weeks without, the next content update for Gran Turismo 7 is almost upon us as it meets the June 11 schedule that was announced back at the GT World Series Milan event last month.

It’s far from usual fare, not least because the vehicle content for the update was already revealed at the same time (making last weekend’s covered-car teaser somewhat moot). In an unprecedented move, it’s a themed set of cars that revolves around the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans — the next staging of which is this coming weekend.

That only forms part, albeit a significant one, of any given update though, and it’s not until a larger announcement the day before that we find out almost everything else. Read on to learn more about what else this much-anticipated update will bring when it lands tomorrow:

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Cars

No part of the car content is a mystery, other than the pricings which we’ll learn tomorrow, given the reveal back in mid-May. It’s a five-car update which focuses on a single theme which you can probably gather from the image above.

The full list is as follows:

• BMW M Hybrid V8 2025 – Brand Central
• Ferrari 499P 2023 – Brand Central
• Peugeot 9X8 2025 – Brand Central
• Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S Safety Car 2020 – Brand Central
• Porsche 963 2024 – Brand Central

Four of the five cars then are direct peers, and join the thus-far lonely Toyota GR010 Hybrid (added in May 2022!) as modern Le Mans Hypercar/LMDh-category vehicles within the Gr.1 class.

There’s a mixture of successes within the quartet, with the Ferrari standing out as both a three-time Le Mans-winner and World Endurance Championship title-holder after taking the crown in 2025.

However the LMDh Porsche 963 is arguably right up there with it as the only one to win both the WEC and the IMSA title, becoming the first non-Toyota to win WEC since the predecessor Porsche 919 in 2017 when it took both championships in 2024.

While the BMW M Hybrid has had some solid results, and actually sits on top of the WEC tree after two rounds of 2026 — with a 1-2 at Spa — it’s also had some ludicrous luck and hasn’t quite reached the heights of its LMDh-class sibling.

Peugeot’s 9X8 captured a lot of attention when it made its debut in 2022 thanks to a design which sported (and decals which emphasized the fact) no rear wing, although that didn’t last long before a rethink. It hasn’t captured a lot of points though, finishing fourth of four hypercars in its debut year and not managing a WEC victory yet.

The 911 Turbo S looks like the odd one out, but it’s also the car currently used as the FIA WEC safety car. It appears to be a clone of the road car we already have though, making for seven safety cars in GT7 based on seven road cars that also appear in the game.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but we tend to see championship- and blue riband race-winning cars get a little bit of success tax, so work on six figures for all four hypercars and a bump for the 499P and 963. Safety cars tend to be pricier than the base cars, which will likely price the 992 a bit above the standard 300,000cr

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Races & Events

Ordinarily we see one new race appropriate to each car in an update, and while there are five new races the somewhat thematic nature of the update means only some apply to the new cars. We’ll need to wait until tomorrow to find out race lengths (or maybe times?) and rewards though.

Another new Extra Menu Book appears, for the second successive month, and we’re expecting a Seasonal Menu, but as usual there’s no mention of circuits with added GT Sophy support at this point…

We’ve only got the overview of the new races for now, with details to follow, but it’s safe to say that three of the events are oriented around the new Hypercars:

• Gr.1 Prototype Series – Watkins Glen Long Course

The three additions to the Gr.1 Prototype Series do seem obvious, and thankfully not under BOP conditions which would make the Hypercars rather slow. However the other two races are just about pulled out of a hat, and there’s nothing new that would apply to the 911 Safety Car.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Extra Menu 54 (Hybrid Prototypes)

Also unsurprising, even if a new Extra Menu Book is rare these days, is the hybrid prototype focus of the latest entry in the collection tasks. However it doesn’t involve the new cars at all, rather the 2016 cars from the start of the era. You’ll need the Audi R18 ’16, Porsche 919 Hybrid ’16, and the Toyota TS050 Hybrid ’16 for this one, with the reward not yet mentioned.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Seasonal Menu

There’s no mention yet of a new Seasonal Menu, but there’s been one for every update since Spec III. You’ll likely need to collect three of the new cars from the update within the first couple of weeks of the update, probably for the standard Five-Star Roulette Ticket as a reward. We might see a second, following that, involving the remaining two cars and one other already in the game.

There’s a new Scapes location in this update, although it’s one that’ll divide the fanbase a little as well as being something we’ve seen glimpses of previously.

That’s the Pikes Peak Highway, leading up the famous Colorado mountain which lends its name to probably the most famous (and infamous) hill climb event in the world. Previous game updates have featured shots from this location to promote new cars, but we’ve never had it in the game.

It’s relatively well-known that Polyphony Digital, as well as having naming rights for the event, has an exclusive licence for the Pikes Peak course in racing games. Fans have been hoping to see the full course appear in a GT title since the short section that was in GT2, but it seems like Scapes is all we’ll get for now.

Otherwise, information is sparse on further game content. We’re likely to see another new Circuit Experience at a circuit variation currently not hosting one, as this seems to be a recent pattern, but as for new circuits or circuit layouts that’s unlikely. Many players would have hoped for a 24h du Mans circuit update, given the age of the course in-game and the new hypercars, but it doesn’t appear to have come to pass.

New engine swaps are also almost certain, though we reckon it’ll be more a case of the new hypercars making their engines available for other existing vehicles as well as a range of other swaps.

The update will arrive at 0600 UTC on Thursday June 11, beginning with a server maintenance period that will take the game offline for a couple of hours. Keep an eye on the site and the forums for all the latest as we get it.
