With the real-world 24 Hours of Le Mans running this very weekend, Gran Turismo 7 sends you out onto the full 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit in Gr.1 hypercars on Racing Soft tires.

Of course, four of the eligible cars just arrived to the game today. Update 1.70 brought four new LMH and LMDh prototypes into the game: the Porsche 963 ’24, Ferrari 499P ’23, BMW M Hybrid V8 ’25 and Peugeot 9X8 ’25. They join the Toyota GR010 HYBRID ’21, and all five are eligible here.

Le Mans is everywhere this week, with the circuit also taking center stage in the Weekly Challenges, so there’s a heavy focus on La Sarthe across the board. These cars were built to race here, which makes the pairing about as natural as GT7 combos get.

As for which one to run, everyone will have a favorite. But an early look at the leaderboard suggests the Porsche 963 is the car to beat.

One Week Left at Deep Forest

There’s also still a week to go on last week’s event, which puts the Toyota 86 GRMN ’16 around Deep Forest Raceway Reverse on Comfort Medium tires. That one closes on June 18.

GT7 Lap Time Challenge June 11

Track: 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit

Power/Weight/PP Limit: BOP (High Speed)

Tires: Racing Soft

Tires: Comfort Medium

Settings: Fixed

Accessing Online Time Trials

If you’ve not jumped into one of these before, you’ll first need to unlock Sport Mode by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. There’s no need for a PlayStation Plus subscription to take part. See our full unlock guide here.

Once an event closes, prizes go out based on how close you got to the fastest lap: gold for anyone within 3% of the top time (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr) and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).

New events arrive every Thursday, and each runs for two weeks with the oldest dropping off as a fresh one appears. The next new Online Time Trial lands on June 18.

A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges goes live this Friday, June 12, the moment your console clock ticks past midnight. You’ll have five events and seven days to work through them, with bonus reward tickets waiting for anyone who clears enough of the card.

If you’re new to the format, Weekly Challenges open up once you’ve finished the GT Cafe career through Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie. Each set pairs four standard World Circuits races with a single Special Event, and the payouts stack: clear one event for the first ticket, three for the second, and all five for the big one. The tickets drop into your Gifts inbox, so remember to redeem them before the set expires. All told, with clean race bonuses, there’s around 1.3m credits in cash and prizes up for grabs across the week.

This Week’s Highlights

The Special Event is the obvious place to start, and this week it’s a Mission Challenge (“One-Lap Magic”) built around one of the headline cars from Update 1.70.

You’re handed the brand-new Peugeot 9X8 ’25 and let loose at Spa-Francorchamps with a single objective: overtake every car on track before you cross the line, in one lap. It’s about the easiest way to get a feel for one of the new prototypes, and a gold run is worth 30,000cr.

The Gr.1 Prototype Series heads to the 24 Heures du Mans circuit for a seven-lap run worth 260,000cr, comfortably the biggest payday of the week and timed to land alongside the real 24 Hours of Le Mans, which gets under way this weekend. With 4x fuel use and 6x tire wear, it’s the closest thing on the card to a proper endurance test, and the new hypercars are eligible under the 950PP cap.

From there the rewards taper off. The Ferrari Circuit Challenge at Yas Marina is the second-biggest earner at 90,000cr over five laps, followed by the Japanese FR Challenge 450 at Suzuka for 40,000cr. The Sunday Cup at BB Raceway rounds things out, and at two laps for road cars it’s the gentlest event of the set, though its 5,000cr win reward is the smallest on offer by some distance.

The latest new Gran Turismo 7 content update is now with us, following an almost three-week long period of anticipation and hype after being partly revealed at the GT World Series in Milan back in May.

It’s going to take PlayStation 4 owners a lot longer than usual to download the update, with 1.70 coming in at just a little under 8GB on the eighth-generation console. On PS5 though it’s closer to what we’d expect from a five-car update at just over 1.6GB. We’re not wholly sure why there’s such a significant difference this time round.

Of course the usual update rhythm applies, and we already knew quite a lot about the contents following the regular pre-update announcement yesterday, but there’s always more information only available when the patch notes land. Read on to discover all!

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Cars

We’ve known about the cars since May 23, so there’s not a lot left bar the rather unexpected pricings:

BMW M Hybrid V8 2025 – Brand Central – 3,000,000cr

Ferrari 499P 2023 – Brand Central – 3,000,000cr

Peugeot 9X8 2025 – Brand Central – 3,000,000cr

Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S Safety Car – Brand Central – 380,000cr

Porsche 963 2024 – Brand Central – 3,000,000cr

Previously it’s been the case that racing cars have had higher prices than peers where they have been more successful. However all four of the new LMH/LMDh cars come in at 3,000,000cr, matching the price of the existing Toyota GR010, despite only two of them having had major success on either side of the Atlantic. The Safety Car’s price, about a quarter more that the road car on which it’s based, is exactly what we expected though.

This actually makes 1.70 the third priciest update of all thus far. Even if you buy only one of each — and each car only has one livery/number — it’s 12,380,000cr, placing it just behind the 1.20 update and the record-holding 1.55 update, both of which were skewed by a single car.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Races & Events

We already learned about the five new races yesterday, heavy on the Gr.1 as you’d expect, but now we have lengths and winner’s prize money numbers too. Along with the second new collection-based Extra Menu Book in a row there’s now confirmation of the time-limited Seasonal Menu, although it’s a little different, and a fifth new Circuit Experience in the last five updates.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New World Circuits Races

European FR Challenge 550 – Eiger Nordwand Reverse (4 laps) – 40,000cr

Gr.1 Prototype Series – 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit (7 laps) – 260,000cr

Gr.1 Prototype Series – Sardegna Road Track A (15 laps) – 220,000cr

Gr.1 Prototype Series – Watkins Glen Long Course (15 laps) – 220,000cr

Pickup Truck Race – Fishermans Ranch (1 lap) – 32,000cr

The three Gr.1 races aren’t quite the money-spinners we’d hoped, but nonetheless do press the four new cars into action right away — even if the 950PP cap for the events makes them a little outclassed. Around 200,000cr for what’s going to be 25 minutes’ work each time is a middling return.

There’s not a new race suitable for the 992 Safety Car, with the other two events seemingly plucked from nowhere. They do at least feature two unusual circuits, with Eiger’s reverse course up for the European FR Challenge 550 (watch out for the hairpins going uphill!) offering up to 40,000cr and Fishermans Ranch in a one-lap Pickup Truck Race for 32,000cr.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Circuit Experience

Fishermans Ranch also features in the fifth new Circuit Experience in a row. That takes you back to one of the trickier original Circuit Experiences but now in the reverse direction.

You’ll need to watch out for that leap at the top of the circuit, as the landing zone is pretty short especially in the Lancia Delta HF Integrale WRC. In total there’s seven sectors worth up to 6,000cr each time and a full lap awarding 30,000cr for a gold time, but it’s the bonuses that entice again.

Pass every sector and the lap and you’ll earn 600,000cr, while there’s another 2,000,000cr on top of that if you make all of those passes gold ones.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Extra Menu

After months without an Extra Menu we get two in two updates. This one will have you collecting three 2016 LMP1 hybrids — the Audi R18, Porsche 919, and Toyota TS050 — with a Six-Star Roulette ticket as the reward.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Seasonal Menu

Unusually, this one will ask you to collect four cars rather than just three, with the four being all of the new hypercars. This is again time-limited, so you’ve got slightly under three weeks to collect all them with another Six-Star Roulette ticket for completion.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Power Pack Changes

There’s no major changes compared to the previous update, but there’s a couple of important new details. That includes access to detailed settings when you use one of your own garage cars instead of the preset cars, as well as Race Shop being added for garage cars to allow you to pick up tyres and fine-tuning components without having to back all the way out.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Engine Swaps

Despite the lull in updates — and presumably until the next one, likely at the end of July — it’s just a five-swap update this time round.

The crown for wildest swap goes to the Toyota RAV4 Adventure, which gets an 840hp supercharged V8 lump from the Dodge Demon Challenger to quintuple its power output. Yikes.

Elsewhere there’s two new homes each for two other engines. You can make your own first- and second-generation Audi TT-RS with a swap from the Audi Sport Quattro rally car, while the Nissan GT-R’s VR38DETT now goes into the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak and Renault Espace F1.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Other Changes

Pikes Peak finally makes it into GT7, but only as a new Scapes location. There’s 11 spots around the infamous Colorado mountain’s treacherous road ascent, including one previously used to promote the Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo way back in May 2022 but unavailable to players until now.

Otherwise changes are few and far between. In game terms the biggest is probably a new opening movie for Sport Mode races — we assume meaning the GTWS movie, which should therefore debut this weekend with the new Exhibition season.

As ever, there’ll be some changes in the update not specifically mentioned in the patch notes that include things like new “Real Car” paints. We’ve spotted new reds from Renault and Yangwang, new yellows from Mazda and Renault, several new blues from Mazda and Renault, and yet more white/black/gray shades from Renault.

You’ll be able to read more on changes like these on GTPlanet as they’re uncovered over the next few days, in our regular Undocumented Changes thread.

After seven weeks without, the next content update for Gran Turismo 7 is almost upon us as it meets the June 11 schedule that was announced back at the GT World Series Milan event last month.

It’s far from usual fare, not least because the vehicle content for the update was already revealed at the same time (making last weekend’s covered-car teaser somewhat moot). In an unprecedented move, it’s a themed set of cars that revolves around the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans — the next staging of which is this coming weekend.

That only forms part, albeit a significant one, of any given update though, and it’s not until a larger announcement the day before that we find out almost everything else. Read on to learn more about what else this much-anticipated update will bring when it lands tomorrow:

No part of the car content is a mystery, other than the pricings which we’ll learn tomorrow, given the reveal back in mid-May. It’s a five-car update which focuses on a single theme which you can probably gather from the image above.

The full list is as follows:

BMW M Hybrid V8 2025 – Brand Central

Ferrari 499P 2023 – Brand Central

Four of the five cars then are direct peers, and join the thus-far lonely Toyota GR010 Hybrid (added in May 2022!) as modern Le Mans Hypercar/LMDh-category vehicles within the Gr.1 class.

There’s a mixture of successes within the quartet, with the Ferrari standing out as both a three-time Le Mans-winner and World Endurance Championship title-holder after taking the crown in 2025.

However the LMDh Porsche 963 is arguably right up there with it as the only one to win both the WEC and the IMSA title, becoming the first non-Toyota to win WEC since the predecessor Porsche 919 in 2017 when it took both championships in 2024.

While the BMW M Hybrid has had some solid results, and actually sits on top of the WEC tree after two rounds of 2026 — with a 1-2 at Spa — it’s also had some ludicrous luck and hasn’t quite reached the heights of its LMDh-class sibling.

Peugeot’s 9X8 captured a lot of attention when it made its debut in 2022 thanks to a design which sported (and decals which emphasized the fact) no rear wing, although that didn’t last long before a rethink. It hasn’t captured a lot of points though, finishing fourth of four hypercars in its debut year and not managing a WEC victory yet.

The 911 Turbo S looks like the odd one out, but it’s also the car currently used as the FIA WEC safety car. It appears to be a clone of the road car we already have though, making for seven safety cars in GT7 based on seven road cars that also appear in the game.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but we tend to see championship- and blue riband race-winning cars get a little bit of success tax, so work on six figures for all four hypercars and a bump for the 499P and 963. Safety cars tend to be pricier than the base cars, which will likely price the 992 a bit above the standard 300,000cr

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Races & Events

Ordinarily we see one new race appropriate to each car in an update, and while there are five new races the somewhat thematic nature of the update means only some apply to the new cars. We’ll need to wait until tomorrow to find out race lengths (or maybe times?) and rewards though.

Another new Extra Menu Book appears, for the second successive month, and we’re expecting a Seasonal Menu, but as usual there’s no mention of circuits with added GT Sophy support at this point…

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: New Races

We’ve only got the overview of the new races for now, with details to follow, but it’s safe to say that three of the events are oriented around the new Hypercars:

European FR Challenge 550 – Eiger Nordwand Reverse

Gr.1 Prototype Series – 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit

Gr.1 Prototype Series – Sardegna Road Track A

Gr.1 Prototype Series – Watkins Glen Long Course

Pickup Truck Race – Fishermans Ranch

The three additions to the Gr.1 Prototype Series do seem obvious, and thankfully not under BOP conditions which would make the Hypercars rather slow. However the other two races are just about pulled out of a hat, and there’s nothing new that would apply to the 911 Safety Car.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Extra Menu 54 (Hybrid Prototypes)

Also unsurprising, even if a new Extra Menu Book is rare these days, is the hybrid prototype focus of the latest entry in the collection tasks. However it doesn’t involve the new cars at all, rather the 2016 cars from the start of the era. You’ll need the Audi R18 ’16, Porsche 919 Hybrid ’16, and the Toyota TS050 Hybrid ’16 for this one, with the reward not yet mentioned.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Seasonal Menu

There’s no mention yet of a new Seasonal Menu, but there’s been one for every update since Spec III. You’ll likely need to collect three of the new cars from the update within the first couple of weeks of the update, probably for the standard Five-Star Roulette Ticket as a reward. We might see a second, following that, involving the remaining two cars and one other already in the game.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.70: Other Changes

There’s a new Scapes location in this update, although it’s one that’ll divide the fanbase a little as well as being something we’ve seen glimpses of previously.

That’s the Pikes Peak Highway, leading up the famous Colorado mountain which lends its name to probably the most famous (and infamous) hill climb event in the world. Previous game updates have featured shots from this location to promote new cars, but we’ve never had it in the game.

It’s relatively well-known that Polyphony Digital, as well as having naming rights for the event, has an exclusive licence for the Pikes Peak course in racing games. Fans have been hoping to see the full course appear in a GT title since the short section that was in GT2, but it seems like Scapes is all we’ll get for now.

Otherwise, information is sparse on further game content. We’re likely to see another new Circuit Experience at a circuit variation currently not hosting one, as this seems to be a recent pattern, but as for new circuits or circuit layouts that’s unlikely. Many players would have hoped for a 24h du Mans circuit update, given the age of the course in-game and the new hypercars, but it doesn’t appear to have come to pass.

New engine swaps are also almost certain, though we reckon it’ll be more a case of the new hypercars making their engines available for other existing vehicles as well as a range of other swaps.

The update will arrive at 0600 UTC on Thursday June 11, beginning with a server maintenance period that will take the game offline for a couple of hours. Keep an eye on the site and the forums for all the latest as we get it.

A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday. The interesting one this week is where Race A takes us: BB Raceway, the original-to-the-series circuit known as “Broad Bean Raceway,” and one of those layouts you can go months without seeing.

The car is cute, but also likely doesn’t get much use. You’ll take on BB Raceway in the Toyota Sports 800 ’65, a little coupe that makes all of 43hp. With that little power to play with, the six laps here are less about outright pace and more about carrying momentum, working the draft, and picking your lines carefully. It’s a grid start, too, with the False Start Check active, so be careful.

Race B is the week’s middle event: 10 laps of the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Gr.4 machinery. The Indy layout is the shorter of Brands Hatch’s two configurations, so the laps tick by quickly. It’s a rolling start on Racing Hards with brake balance the only setting left open, and BOP set to (L).

Race C is the “endurance”-flavored one: 15 laps at the Autodromo de Interlagos in Gr.3 cars, with a 2x fuel multiplier and a heavier 4x tire multiplier. There’s no mandatory pit stop listed, but there’s a catch. The race calls for both Racing Hard and Racing Medium tires, so you’ll be coming down pit lane at some point regardless to get both compounds used. BOP is set to (M), with brake balance again the only open setting.

About GT7 Daily Races

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your DR and SR ratings update after every race based on how you finish, and they feed into your seeding for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

To get into Sport Mode in the first place you’ll need to unlock it by clearing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe, and a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to race online.

With GT7’s Daily Races rolling over every Monday throughout the game’s life so far, the next new set should land on Monday, June 15.

This week’s new Online Time Trial digs out one of Toyota’s rarest modern cars. Gran Turismo 7 sends the Toyota 86 GRMN ’16 around Deep Forest Raceway in reverse, running on Comfort Medium tires.

The GRMN badge stands for “Gazoo Racing tuned by the Meister of the Nürburgring,” a nod to Toyota’s Nürburgring‑honed development culture and the master test drivers who shaped its modern performance cars.

A “GRMN”, then, is the most hardcore version of a Toyota model, developed with heavy Nürburgring influence and built in tiny numbers, like the GRMN Yaris/Vitz, Mark X GRMN, or the newer GRMN Corolla. The 86 GRMN fits the pattern exactly: a Japan‑only run of roughly 100 cars, with more power than the standard 86 and chassis and suspension changes to go with it.

The Comfort Medium tires are the one curveball: road rubber on a coupe this sharp means it’ll slide around, and that’s a choice some players will enjoy more than others.

The weekly events aren’t the only thing on the clock right now, either. Time Trials have been busy for a few weeks, and the PlayStation Days of Play challenge that put a real-world hardware prize pool on the line at Laguna Seca is still live through June 10. That one runs in parallel with the regular schedule rather than in place of it, so there’s plenty to keep you in the Sport pavilion this week.

One Week Left at Eiger

The continuing event has a week left to run. The Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 Shifter stays at Eiger Nordwand on Sports Soft tires, and it closes on June 11. If you’ve not set a lap yet, last week’s write-up has the full details.

Accessing Online Time Trials

To access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. PlayStation Plus is not required. Once an event closes, gold goes to players within 3% of the fastest time (2m credits), silver within 5% (1m credits), and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).

Events update every Thursday, with each challenge running for two weeks and the oldest being replaced. The next new Time Trial arrives on June 11.

A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges goes live this Friday, June 5, when your console clock ticks past midnight. Five events, seven days to clear them, and the usual stack of bonus tickets waiting for anyone who works through the list.

For anyone new to the format, Weekly Challenges open up once you’ve finished the GT Cafe career through Menu Book 39 and the ending movie. Each week’s set is four standard World Circuits races plus one Special Event, with reward tickets handed out at one, three, and five completions. The tickets land in your Gifts and need to be redeemed before they expire. Clear the full set with clean race bonuses and there’s around 1.3m credits in cash and prizes on the table.

This Week’s Highlights

The Special Event is kind of the odd one this week.

GT7 hands you the Renault Captur S Edition ’21 for a one-make race at Tsukuba Circuit, which is not a pairing anyone likely had on their bingo card. A French crossover at a tight Japanese road course is unexpected, but it has a couple of things going for it. It’s only four laps, so even if the Captur isn’t your idea of a good time, you’re in and out quickly. And slower cars tend to be a lot of fun around Tsukuba’s short, flowing layout. The win pays 40,000cr.

The big money sits with the Neo-Classic Competition at Fuji Speedway, a 10-lap run for 800PP cars built between 1980 and 1999. At 168,000cr for the win it’s the richest event of the week, and it’s also the one experienced racers will get the most out of: fuel runs at 10x and tire wear at 8x, so a strong result is as much about managing the car as it is about outright pace. From there the rewards step down through the Nissan GT-R Cup at Circuit de Sainte-Croix (a three-lap, 700PP race worth 94,000cr) and the World Touring Car 600 at the Nürburgring GP circuit (five laps, 80,000cr).

The low point on paper is the Japanese FF Challenge 450 at Suzuka’s East Course, a three-lap event that pays a measly 7,000cr for the win. Worth pointing out, though: it’s also the easiest box to tick, and clearing your first event of the week hands over a 100,000cr Credit Ticket. So that opening race is really worth 107,000cr once the ticket drops.

Back in November, EA confirmed it was skipping a brand-new F1 game for 2026 and folding the new season into the existing F1 25 as a paid expansion instead. That expansion has finally arrived: the F1 25: 2026 Season Pack is available today on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The pack carries the whole 2026 regulation overhaul into the game, including new cars, new rules, an expanded grid, and a fresh circuit.

The Madring Circuit

The headline addition, and the reason a lot of players will pick this up, is the Madring.

This is the in-game version of the new Madrid venue joining the calendar as the Spanish Grand Prix, a hybrid layout that mixes street sections with purpose-built track. EA puts it at 5.4 km across 22 corners, and its the first new circuit to join the series since 2023. It’s locked to the 2026 cars only, since the layout was modeled around the new-era machinery.

Of course, the real-world race doesn’t happen until September, so the pack lets you lap an upcoming Grand Prix circuit months before the actual drivers turn a wheel there.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="F1 25: 2026 Season Pack BEFORE THE LIGHTS (ft.

To show it off, EA has put out a video of seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton going wheel-to-wheel against a footballer (or “soccer player”) named Zlatan Ibrahimović around the circuit.

The Grid Grows to Eleven

The other big change is the size of the field. The 2026 grid expands to eleven teams, and the pack lets you take both newcomers out for a lap.

The one drawing the most attention is Cadillac, the first major American manufacturer to line up in F1. Its inaugural pairing leans on experience, with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez sharing the garage.

The other addition is Audi, arriving with its own works effort after taking over the Sauber operation, with Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg in the seats.

If eleven teams isn’t enough, My Team returns so you can slot your own custom squad in as an unofficial twelfth. There’s some movement among the existing outfits too: Arvid Lindblad steps up to Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson, while Isack Hadjar gets the seat next to Max Verstappen at Red Bull.

New Cars, New Rules

Under the bodywork, this is a different driving proposition rather than a reskin.

The 2026 cars are lighter and smaller, and the big mechanical talking point is active aerodynamics: the front and rear wings adjust in real time for more speed through the corners and down the straights. The pack also introduces Overtake Mode, a deployable power boost you choose when to spend, which pushes more of the race into strategy. And there’s a new set of assists for players who’d rather let the car handle some of that management in the background.

Senior Creative Director Lee Mather called it “the most significant evolution of the sport in over a decade,” which is the sort of thing a creative director says at launch, but the regulation reset is real enough that the line isn’t doing much exaggerating. Hamilton, now partnered with EA Sports, struck a similar note, saying the new rules “have changed so much about the sport.”

What It Costs

The Season Pack isn’t a standalone game (it needs a copy of F1 25 to bolt onto, sold separately). On its own:

Console: $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99

PC: $24.99 / €24.99 / £21.99

For newcomers who don’t already own the base game, EA has bundled the two together as the 2026 Season Edition, which gets you the 2025 season plus the new content in one purchase:

Console: $49.99 / €59.99 / £49.99

PC: $49.99 / €49.99 / £44.99

One catch for returning players: custom teams and career saves from the 2025 season don’t carry over into 2026, and the F1-movie APXGP and Konnersport teams can’t be brought across either.

Worth Noting

This is the stopgap year before the series resets properly. EA has already confirmed a full standalone F1 game for 2027, described as a more expansive reimagining of the franchise. For now, the Season Pack is the way to get the 2026 grid (and the Madring) under your wheels.

The studio a lot of us have been quietly keeping tabs on since 2022 finally has something to show.

Maverick Games, the independent UK outfit founded by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown, has pulled the covers off its debut title. It’s called Clutch, it’s a cinematic open-world driving game, and it’s heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in spring 2027.

After everything this project has been through, it’s good to see it finally come to fruition.

The Road Here

We first covered this team when Mike Brown left Playground Games to start his own studio, and again when Maverick partnered with Amazon Games in 2024 to build a narrative-led driving game.

That Amazon deal is no longer in place after the publisher walked back its agreement earlier this year as part of a wider pullback from its games business, leaving Maverick to go it alone. Fortunately, the studio was able to keep the rights to the game, and development has carried on regardless.

This reveal is the payoff for a project that lost its publisher and came out the other side independent.

What Is Clutch?

At its heart, Clutch is built around a story. It follows two sibling racing prodigies competing in the R1K, a fictional series Maverick frames as a century-old proving ground for the world’s best drivers.

Running underneath that polished pro circuit is the Midnight Collective, an underground scene built around style and the raw thrill of speed. When the lead character lands in trouble and needs a fixer, the line between those two worlds breaks down. The story is being written by Jamie Brittain, co-creator of the British TV series Skins, a detail we reported when the Amazon deal was first announced.

Maverick describes the result as a living PvPvE open world (players against players against the environment) that mixes handcrafted missions with spontaneous race-and-chase chaos. Brown’s stated goal is to push the open-world driving genre somewhere new rather than iterate on the formula he helped build at Playground.

First-Look Footage

We got an early sneak peek at footage from the game, and it certainly looks the part. Environments are expansive, the car models are sharp, and the European setting does what an expensive-cars-in-pretty-places backdrop always does for a driving game.

It feels like Clutch has an edgier tone than the Forza Horizon franchise ever leaned into. The footage points to a “legitimate racing by day, street racing by night” structure, which should give both the car culture and the mission variety somewhere interesting to go.

Customization Looks Deep

The studio says personalization runs deeper than paint and bolt-on parts, down to the small details of actually owning a car. From the early footage, that includes:

A Land Rover Defender kitted out with a snorkel, a side-mounted exterior gear carrier, mudflaps, and a range of wheels

A Porsche Cayman GT4 cycling through a wide selection of wing types

A Nissan 350Z with different exhaust setups and a front aero piece

Underglow and nitrous, both of which Forza Horizon never offered

Swappable steering wheels and seats

Dashboard clutter you can place and position yourself (loose paper, a little stuffed toy car), plus clothing tossed in the passenger seat

A choice of items to hang from the rearview mirror

And, my personal favorite: it appears you can choose the drink in your car’s cupholders.

It’s the kind of detail that suggests the team understands the difference between customizing a car and making one feel like your own.

There Is a Heist?

One sequence in the footage makes the gameplay influences pretty obvious. There’s a clear heist setup, with an Aston Martin tearing out of a luxury villa in the south of France while police in Alfa Romeo Stelvios give chase, lights and sirens blazing.

It also makes something else clear: like Forza Horizon, Clutch doesn’t seem too interested in damage or consequences. During the chase, cars launch hundreds of feet through the air and just keep driving. If you were hoping the “action” half of “action-driving” meant a more grounded simulation, this isn’t it. Expect a lot of common ground with Forza Horizon on the physics front.

The most eyebrow-raising moment is an R34 Nissan GT-R deploying some kind of James Bond-style grappling line to sling itself through corners. Make of that what you will!

What’s Next?

Maverick says a proper look at the story, the cast, the world, and the stakes is coming at the Summer Game Fest Showcase on Friday, June 5, so we should learn a lot more about the campaign side in just a few days.

For now, the takeaway is straightforward. A proven team has a promising open-world driving game, a clear point of view, and an independent path to spring 2027. On this first showing, Clutch looks like the most serious competition Forza Horizon 6 is going to face.

A new week brings a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three fresh events now live and running through next Monday.

Race C is arguably the one to look at this week. It reads as a Gr.2 race, but the entry list is really just three specified cars: the Toyota GT-One (TS020) ’99, the McLaren F1 GTR Race Car ’97, and the Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM ’98.

That’s three of the late-’90s GT1 era’s most evocative machines sharing a grid over 12 laps of Fuji, and it should be a fantastic-looking field. The GT-One joined GT7 in the 1.44 update back in 2024, dropping into Gr.2 next to the McLaren and the Mercedes that were already there. It’s the #3 that ran at the front at Le Mans in 1999 before a late blowout settled the result, and seeing it alongside other legends reason enough to load this one up. There’s a 2x fuel multiplier, heavy 6x tire wear, and a single mandatory pit stop.

Race A heads to the Tokyo Expressway (East Clockwise route) for four laps in the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, the brand’s “VGT” concept in its racing-series trim. A Vision Gran Turismo car as the fixed machine for a spec race is always a slightly polarizing pick. It runs on Racing Hard tires with a 2x tire multiplier, and BOP is set to (H).

Race B is the short one: four laps of the Yas Marina Circuit in Gr.3 cars on Racing Hards. It’s a rolling start with brake balance the only setting left open, so it’s a quick sprint around the Abu Dhabi venue with no pit-stop wrinkle to manage.

With GT7’s Daily Races rolling over every Monday throughout the game’s life so far, the next new set should land on Monday, June 8.
