About that Steve Jobs photo

Just a few days ago came the shocking news that Steve Jobs has passed away. Soon, the tributes and accolades from all over followed. On Apple‘s site, a single portrait photo of him was posted, and would soon be re-posted in countless other sites. Black and white, with Jobs simply looking at the camera, it is said to be Jobs’ favorite photo.

I said, ‘Think about the next project you have on the table,’ and I asked him also to think about instances where people have challenged him. If you look at that shot, you can see the intensity. It was my intention that by looking at him, that you knew this guy was smart,”

the great photographer, Albert Watson, says. Watson was commissioned to take Jobs’ photos for Fortune as part of a feature on people in power back in 2006. More interesting behind-the-scene tidbits via Photo District News.

On another note, Mike Matas, a former Apple employee, has posted in Facebook a series of fun photos that Steve Jobs took while testing the Photo Booth filters in the Apple HQ.

Nice to see this side of him, yeah?

Is there a secret to happiness? No secret, just a few time-tested habits, according to Marc and Angel’s blog. Our favorites: Smile more often. Make time for fun. Savor the joy of simple pleasures:

Make time for fun. – Fun is way underrated. With all of our responsibilities, fun seems like an indulgence. It shouldn’t be. It should be a requirement. Ponder what you did to have fun when you were younger and go do it again. Leave the yard unmowed for a weekend and get out on the town. When you’re older, you will remember the fun, not the freshly mowed yard.

We think so, too. When we’re older, as we look at our old photos and mementos, we will remember the fun moments we’ve shared with family and friends. Cheers to fun and deciding to be happy!

Losing images in your memory card

It has happened before. (Thankfully, not to us). By some mysterious work of science and what-have-you, the precious photos you’ve stored in your memory card just can’t be found. You sit dumbfounded, then panic strikes in. What to do now?

One of our fave photography book authors, Scott Kelby, shares in his blog his own heartbreak of losing a full memory card. He later shares what his pal, Brad, used to recover the memory card.

And if you’re like the characters in the movie, Friends with Benefits, you’re likely to use it almost out of habit when sending photos and messages to those in your circle – but have you ever wondered how the cellphone camera came about?

Well, it turns out a doting dad’s idle time in the hospital inspired today’s cellphone cameras. Read this interesting story on how a baby’s arrival in 1997 gave birth to the idea of the cellphone camera.

Nikon says a photographer is only as good as…

In a recent post on its Facebook page, Nikon says that “A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses, and a good lens is essential to taking good pictures! Do any of our facebook fans use any of the NIKKOR lenses? Which is your favorite and what types of situations do you use it for?”

Maybe it was meant to solicit feedback as to what kind of lenses their fans use and for what purpose/s. However, the post has generated quite a whirlwind of reactions from various sectors, with more than 4,000 comments at our last count.
