January 2011 surprised us all in the United Kingdom. I was sort of trapped inside my house because I live in a very steep hill. We were running out of food at home and since we could not take the car down the hill decided to do the two hour walk to the town centre to buy groceries. On our way there we decided to stop at the park and enjoy the endless white landcape. As we walked past the dyke we noticed the swans and ducks were fighting their way through the frozen waters. It was nice to see they were coping rather well and had built their own channels were they could carry on swimming. It was interesting to see that the big swans were the ones at the front of the line followed by the ducks and other smallers bids.

Camera: Canon EOS 550D D-SLR

ISO: 100

Focal Length: 21mm

Flash: No

Modifications: Used Photoshop to correct the white balance as using the auto setting had caused the snow to look a bit grey.

In September 2010 my husband and I decide to visit the city of Las Vegas in Nevada, USA. It was a very exciting place full of life and buzzing with excitement and energy . I took this photo during one of our walks along the new strip at night. Unfortunately the D-SLR was back at the hotel and all I had at the time was my point and shoot (which I carry with me at all times). I did not have a tripod and so had to place the camera on top of a barrier to avoid camera shake. A part of the barrier can be seen on the left side of the photo and I must admit I wish it was not there. Unfortunately cropping the image would mean removing the cars in the back which would take away too much detail. I could have used Photoshop but at the end decided to live with it and leave it there.
