Blair has released the January Newsletter, which you can read in the Newsletters section of Toolband right now. A quick glance shows no real Tool news, which doesn’t come as a huge surprise to me. Feel free to comment & discuss the email below!

Puscifer comment on Youtube copyright issues

Mog messaged me today to let me know that a new statement on the Puscifer website, presumably from Maynard, offers some clarification on their ongoing fight against copyrighted videos posted on Youtube:

We are currently working on some form of reciprocal exchange. Almost 100% of the copyright infringement on uTube from other channels never gives a nod to the source. No mention of www.puscifer.com or www.youtube.com/pusciferdotcom being the official channels for Puscifer, Caduceus, A Perfect Circle, and Tool. No traffic is sent our way. This recent barrage of cease and desist notices is an attempt to correct this. People/artists doing videos using our work without permission deliver an added sting when they don’t even mention our sites. We are independent. We NEED the traffic to OUR URL’s and channels to survive as an independent project. So some form of reciprocating gesture needs to be put in place for us not to be pricks about it all. Then and only then will we consider allowing people to use our art and product in conjunction with theirs.

Having said that, NO live footage is EVER permitted. The live experience is to be enjoyed in the moment. Not on the internet.

Seems fair to me, though I know plenty of you would object to a live footage ban.

Also, I hope Spin take down their video, as it appears to have no reciprocal link on it

Blair hints at Live DVD

Pretty high on most Tool fans wishlist is a Live DVD, and in a recent Toolband article Blair dropped a hint that may or may not suggest it’ll happen soon:

In this photo taken by Rynne, is Tool manager Pete… A) Pondering the future release date for the band’s live DVD?.. B) Waiting for Arsenal to play?.. C) Trying to contact UFO occupants near the White Mountains?..

Live DVD huh? I’ve heard that one before! I suspect most of you will believe there actually are UFO’s near the White Mountains before acknowledging that this will happen any time soon. Then again I have heard to expect some good things from Tool in 2012, so you never know…

Paul D’Amour Custom Bass on Ebay

Sam messaged me this morning to let me know about this new Ebay item: a custom Ibanez Bass used by former Tool man Paul D’Amour. According to the description:

Designed per Paul’s specifications in the Ibanez custom shop.
Silver w/mirror pick guard, Maple neck, Badass bridge and humbucking pick-ups. (Body was damaged in the heat of battle but solidly repaired)
ONLY ONE MADE!

Auction includes case.

Was played on stage during some of Paul’s final shows with the band.
(can be signed by Paul on request)

It’s a nice looking bass, and the price is US$3,750.

User Purge Notification!

Hello faithful readers! As part of my ongoing upgrade efforts, I will be running a process to purge a whole bunch of inactive users! This process will delete around 10,000 users from the database, all of which have registered but not posted. The majority of these users I believe are accounts registered by spammers. If you think you fit this criteria, and you’d like to keep your account, I strong suggest you post something in the next couple of days!

Update: Just to clarify somewhat – this purge will happen some time on Wednesday Australian time, which is most likely Tuesday evening/night for you American readers.

Intronaut Tour Diary part 2

Part 2 of the Intronaut Tour Diary from the Tool Tour 2012 is up, and once again it’s an insightful and humorous read. Here’s a sample (with a song name censored to protect the unspoilt):

1/18/12 9:00 pm - By the time we hit Tucson, we were pretty sick of Dave being an attention hog rock star jerk. Tonight in Albuquerque, Tool invited Danny [Walker] up to play drums on "XXX". I got some really good footage, but just as they were almost done with the song, Tool’s head of security grabbed me and made me delete the footage per their "no filming" rule. This rule is obviously really effective — check out one of five hundred YouTube clips from that show above.

Note that unlike the first diary entry the article contains mild spoilers.
