Heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, few pundits or fans were giving the U.S. Men's National Team much of a chance.

To be clear, many predicted the team to have a solid showing, with several calling on them to make it out of the group stage.

Given the added pressure of being a host nation, it's fair to think the team would have a good tournament, but no one actually believed that the United States could actually win the whole thing.

After their convincing wins over Paraguay and Australia that sent them on to the knockout rounds, however, many are starting to readjust their expectations regarding the ceiling of this squad.

One of those pundits who is starting to rethink his stance on the Stars and Stripes is 12-time Swedish Player of the Year and FOX Soccer correspondent Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Ibrahimović is known for being a hard guy to impress, but after seeing the USMNT up close for two matches on the world's biggest stage, the sensational Swedish striker is ready to believe.

While he isn't known as a jokester normally, I had to rewind this clip three different times to make sure I heard him correctly.

I didn't think this USMNT had a shot in hell to even make it past the round of 16, but here's a soccer legend telling us all it's time to start taking this team seriously.

The way this team moves the ball and attacks looks completely unfamiliar to anything I've seen from them in past World Cups, and the talent is at a higher level than it's ever been before.

With manager Mauricio Pochettino pulling the strings, it's easy to see why folks like Zlatan are impressed with what they've seen.

Will America win the World Cup in 2026? I don't know.

If I were a betting man, I would still side with the field, as there are plenty of quality teams in this tournament.

But the fact that we are even talking about the USMNT having a chance at winning this tournament is a testament to just how far we've come as a soccer nation.

Zlatan is ready to believe, and you should be too.

After the United States won its second match of the tournament against Australia to punch its ticket to the Round of 32, all attention turned to a team that has become America's second-favorite in the FIFA World Cup, Scotland.

The Tartan Army has been putting on a show since they arrived in the United States (and before, honestly), and spirits have been high for their first World Cup appearance in 28 years. It got off to a solid start with a 1-0 win over Haiti.

On Friday, they were gearing up for their second match of the tournament against a very good team from Morocco, which opened its slate with a draw against Brazil.

Just like their first match, this one was at Boston Stadium (also known as Gillette Stadium), and the city has really embraced Scotland and their supporters.

Look at what was going on before the match.

I half-expected to see Mel Gibson with blue paint slathered on his face out in front leading them down the street.

How do you not get wrapped up in that? The bagpipes, the booze, the kilts! You'd have to be missing a pulse not to get swept up in it.

I mean, even ducks were getting in on it over in Providence.

For those keeping score at home, yes, that was the second soccer hooligan duck of this World Cup, which I'm pretty comfortable declaring is a record.

Scotland supporters were well represented inside the stadium and belted out their unofficial national anthem, "Flower of Scotland."

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for the excitement to subside a little bit when Morocco scored an early goal in the second minute, and that was all they needed.

Scotland pressed hard late and got some stellar opportunities, but it wasn't enough, with Morocco winning 1-0.

That moves Morocco — one of the favorites to go all the way — into first place in Group C, while Scotland falls to second.

The next match for the Scots is another tough one against Brazil, down in Miami.

Measles-infected traveler may have exposed passengers at LAX and nearby hotel, health officials warn

A traveler infected with measles may have exposed passengers at Los Angeles International Airport and guests at a nearby hotel after arriving in Los Angeles County earlier this month, health officials said Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said it is investigating a confirmed measles case involving a traveler who arrived aboard Cathay Pacific Flight CX 884 on June 11. The traveler was infectious while passing through Los Angeles County, potentially exposing others at LAX and the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel.

The case marks the sixth measles infection reported in Los Angeles County this year. Health officials said the risk of exposure could increase as summer travel ramps up and Los Angeles welcomes international visitors for FIFA World Cup events being held in the region.

MEASLES CASES CONFIRMED AT FOUR MAJOR US AIRPORTS ACROSS COUNTRY AMID PEAK HOLIDAY TRAVEL

According to health officials, anyone who was at the Tom Bradley International Terminal between 10 a.m. and noon on June 11 may have been exposed. Officials also identified a potential exposure at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel, located at 5711 W. Century Blvd., between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. that same day.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with local health departments to notify passengers who were seated near the infected traveler on the international flight.

People who were at either location during the listed times could develop symptoms between seven and 21 days after exposure, officials said. The last day to monitor for symptoms is July 2.

Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically begins on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.

JD Vance tells Israeli critics 'you can't kill your way' out of national security problems

Vice President JD Vance spoke candidly with The New York Times’ Ross Douthat this week about how pro-Israel factions are criticizing the Iran deal with the U.S., saying at one point Israel couldn't "kill" its way out of its problems.

"You've seen people in their system — [Itamar] Ben-Gvir and [Bezalel] Smotrich — who've attacked the deal. And I guess my response to them would be: What is your exact proposal? You're a country of 9 million people," he said in the interview posted Thursday. "You can't just kill your way out of solving every single national security problem that you have."

The U.S. and the Iranian regime have crafted a new Memorandum of Understanding to re-open the Strait of Hormuz and address the Islamic regime’s nuclear program. Critics say the arrangement echoes the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal — which President Donald Trump has long derided — by granting Tehran economic concessions before securing permanent restrictions, while supporters argue it is the most practical way to prevent a wider Middle East war and a potentially devastating shock to the global economy.

"I don’t think this deal is popular in Israel right now. I don’t think you’re an especially popular figure in Israel today," Douthat said, asking whether he agrees with the growing perception that there is a misalignment between the interests of the U.S. and Israel.

"And I fundamentally believe this deal will be good for the entire region and for the world. That includes, of course, the Israelis."

He clarified that while he believes this deal is the best possible scenario for the world at large, "Fundamentally, we're worried about what's in the best interest of the American people. And to the extent that — and I think the president has shown this — where he sees misalignment between the goals of the political system in Israel and the goals of the American people, he's willing to say that we're going to pursue America's interests where there are divergences."

Vance went on to note that while he has not seen Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticize the deal, other Israelis have been quite vocal.

Vance made a reference to Ben-Gvir, the Israeli National Security Minister, who said in a recent controversial X post in response to the killing of four Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah, "With all due respect to the Americans, Israel must make it clear to the entire world that the blood of our sons and the security of our citizens are not forfeit. All of Lebanon must burn. Our supreme duty is to protect the citizens of Israel and the soldiers of the IDF, and this commitment takes precedence over every other consideration."

Vance's remarks to Douthat come as he warned Israeli officials against "attacking the only powerful ally that I have left anywhere in the entire world" while speaking at the White House this week.

"Look at what we've accomplished," Vance told Douthat. We have got the Iranians at a point where they are offering things — again, whether they'll actually act on them, we'll see — but they're offering things that would have been the stuff of dreams even six months ago. So let us play this negotiation out."

He was later asked by Douthat what he would tell more hawkish GOP figures like Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who might fear the deal with Iran is a "big sellout."

"We're in the business of solving real problems, not solving abstract problems, and so, if your view is that opening the Straits, getting them to commit to the destruction of the enriched uranium, and any other number of potential benefits that will come along with this deal — it's not just whether this is good or bad, it's, ‘What is the alternative?’ ‘What do you want to do?’" Vance asked.

"If your proposal is to send 200,000 ground troops into Tehran so that you can make Reza Pahlavi the leader of that country, then say that," he said. "But I don't appreciate criticism without alternatives."

Elmo makes it clear he's rooting for Team USA after New York Knicks fans put his head on a pike

It's very hard to get mad at Elmo from "Sesame Street." Really, it's kind of hard to get mad at any Muppet (except Pepe the King Prawn; he's always trying to steal your girl if given even half a chance), but this week Knicks fans were still irate at Elmo for not picking a side in the NBA Finals.

Well, Elmo wasn't going to stand idly by and watch his head on a pike get paraded through the streets of New York, and for the USMNT's game against Australia, the little red third-person-talking Muppet picked a side.

And he's all in on USA, baby.

"Just to be clear, Elmo wants Team USA to win, okay?" he said. "Elmo loves everybody. Just to be clear. Don't make this a thing. Thank you."

It's not every day you see the citizens of "Sesame Street" go into PR crisis mode. Not since people started to ask questions about Bert and Ernie's living arrangement.

But hey, the last time Elmo got people whipped up into a frenzy like this was way back in the days of Tickle Me Elmo, and at least then they were excited to see him.

They weren't doing this to the poor guy.

Actually, come to think of it, I may have seen some footage like that taken inside a Kmart in like 1997... but still, it would be really rough to see that happen to Elmo multiple times in one week.

This is a nice change of pace. Perhaps we'll now see the opposite thing happen this time around. While Knicks fans waged war with Elmo, maybe US fans will grow to embrace Elmo as a quasi-mascot.

Until things go south, then his head might end up with a one-way ticket to Pike City.

Poor guy.

Australia World Cup manager Tony Popovic calls out referee after big loss to Team USA

Australia coach Tony Popovic shared his thoughts on a referee after Friday's 2-0 loss to the U.S. in Seattle.

"I think today was, I wouldn’t say the best day for the referee," Popovic told reporters after the game.

A controversial moment came when the Americans appeared to score their second goal. The play was initially called back for offside, but after a VAR review, officials determined the goal was valid and let it stand.

The U.S. found the back of the net at the end of the 43rd minute after a free kick was stopped, and then Alex Freeman, the son of former NFL player Antonio Freeman, headed a ball in. The score was immediately protested by the Australians, who felt their goalkeeper had been impeded or there was an offside. After a VAR review, the call stood, and the goal was awarded.

Tensions boiled over late in the match when a physical altercation broke out. Australia's Harry Souttar grabbed the USA's Folarin Balogun in what commentators described as a "rear naked choke." Zwayer regained control by issuing yellow cards to Balogun, Souttar and Australia's Jacob Italiano.

Australia received four yellow cards, while the U.S. received three.

Popovic was seen approaching German match official Felix Zwayer after the game, with urgency.

Zwayer also pulled up with a cramp towards the end of the USA’s win. The German official, 45, required help from both the USA’s Folarin Balogun and Australia's Aiden O'Neill, who stretched out his left leg after Zwayer fell to the turf.

Still, the manager did give credit to the Americans and admitted his players looked "sluggish" on Friday.

"I don't know if it's the occasion, but we looked sluggish, heavy-legged ... They won every duel, they won every second ball and when you do that, it makes it very difficult to gain any momentum. And then we conceded two soft goals," he said.

"When you think, you know, this noise here — host nation — I think the players show how good they are in the second half, but obviously at this level, you can't give away that much in the first."

With its 2-0 record, the United States is in first place with six points, while Australia remains with three and in second place. Both Paraguay and Turkey, who face off on Friday to potentially determine the USA's group fate, are winless with zero points.

The United States would clinch a Group D victory, and a favorable draw in the Round of 32, if Paraguay either beats or ties with Turkey — that game kicks off at 11 p.m. ET.

Karmelo Anthony runs away after murdering Austin Metcalf: surveillance video

New videos and photos released Friday show the moments leading up to and after Karmelo Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf to death with a knife during a confrontation at a Texas high school track meet.

The videos were made public Friday by Collin County court following Anthony's first-degree murder conviction earlier this month.

One piece of surveillance showed Anthony fleeing the tent where he stabbed Metcalf, running through the stands and onto the track in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025.

Among the other images released were a blood-soaked jacket and the folding Ozark Trail multi-tool knife prosecutors said was used to fatally stab Metcalf, as well as the bleachers at David Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on April 2, 2025.

The newly released trial exhibits from the murder case include crime scene photos, images of the knife prosecutors said was used in the stabbing, 911 calls and police body-camera footage shown to jurors.

ANOTHER LAWYER JOINS KARMELO ANTHONY'S APPEAL AS KILLER CLAIMS HE CANNOT PAY FOR COUNSEL

The body-camera video captures the moments after Anthony was taken into custody following the fatal stabbing of Metcalf at a high school track meet. In the footage, Anthony is heard telling officers, "He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me."

Anthony used a blade to stab Metcalf after the teen and his brother confronted him while sitting in their team’s tent at Memorial High School, prosecutors said. Anthony, who was 17 at the time, admitted he stabbed Metcalf but claimed he acted in self-defense.

During Anthony's trial, prosecutor Bill Wirskye noted that the 3½-inch-long weapon used by Anthony was "not particularly a quality knife," but it ultimately proved lethal when he pulled it from his backpack during the confrontation.

Anthony was sentenced this month to 35 years in prison for the stabbing, which ignited a wave of criticism from his supporters over the makeup of the jury. Anthony will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence.

JEFF METCALF SPEAKS OUT ABOUT LOSING SON AUSTIN AND HOW HIS FAMILY IS MOVING FORWARD

Other images released Friday show a deep gash on Metcalf's chest with a forensic ruler placed beside the wound. Another shows Anthony near the football field where the track meet was being held at the time of the killing.

A short video appears to show Anthony being arrested by responding officers. One of the officers says to another as they arrive: "This is the alleged suspect."

"I know how it goes," a voice is heard off camera. "I'm not alleged. I did it."

Collin County District Judge John Roach, who authorized the release of the images and videos, told Fox News Digital that he understood the public's desire to know what happened in the case.

"The overwhelming focus on my ruling regarding the media in the courtroom was to protect the process, witnesses, and jury. Now that the trial is over, it is important to me to provide transparency," he said.

One image shows Anthony's hands cuffed following the deadly incident while sitting in the back of a police vehicle with what appears to be blood on his left hand.

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, previously told Fox News Digital that surveillance footage of his son's fatal stabbing would contradict many of the claims that circulated online after the deadly confrontation at a Texas track meet.

Now, with Collin County releasing trial exhibits presented to jurors, the public is getting its first look at evidence shown during Anthony's murder trial.

Metcalf, who viewed the footage before it was played in court, said he believed its release would answer lingering questions about what happened beneath the Memorial High School team tent the day of the murder.

"The video clearly shows the conversation lasted less than 10 seconds. That's it," Metcalf previously told Fox News Digital. "There was no four-on-one."

Metcalf said the footage contradicts claims that Anthony was jumped, surrounded or attacked by multiple students before the stabbing.

"He wasn't jumped. There was no four-on-one. He wasn't surrounded," Metcalf said. "Look at the video. There's a shove and there's a stab, and it's over and he runs away. That's it."

Michigan trio allegedly beat, strangled and gagged man at Las Vegas hotel to collect on gambling debts

Three Michigan men face a slew of charges related to the violent kidnapping of a man at a Las Vegas hotel who allegedly owed gambling debts, according to reports.

Issa Hamade and Ahmad Harb, both 32, and Sobhi Sobh, 33, were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, extortion, conspiracy, battery with intent to commit mayhem, robbery or grand larceny, and coercion with force or threats, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

During court proceedings in Clark County, Hamade was identified as a dentist from Dearborn, Michigan, while Harb works as a disc jockey and Sobh works as a physical therapist.

The trio allegedly lured Naved Azim, a New York resident, to a hotel room at the MGM Grand on the Las Vegas Strip, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department report cited by the newspaper.

Azim was then beaten, strangled, suffocated with a pillow, gagged, and stuffed in a closet. The men then demanded $185,000 from Azim's father to cover gambling debts owed to Harb, police said. However, Harb subsequently told investigators that the amount owed to him was $325,000.

A short video call was made to Azim's father to show him his badly beaten son on his knees, the report states.

"Listen, your son scammed me of 185K in fake sports bets. I want my money, period," the message said, according to police.

"The males began taking photos of Naved's family and friends' locations, contact information, and addresses," police said. "The males stated that they would hurt his family and friends if Naved did not pay back what was owed."

During Wednesday's court hearing, Hamade's attorney, Michael Troiano, said his client was an upstanding citizen and that Azim was involved in what he described in court as a fraudulent gambling scheme, the newspaper reported.

"My client had absolutely zero involvement whatsoever in the bets, the conspiracy, essentially any of the alleged facts other than he was supposedly in this hotel room," Troiano said.

Sobh's attorney, Ryan Helmick, said "there's going to be a lot to uncover" regarding the facts of the case. A representative of the Clark County public defender's office said Harb has no criminal record, the newspaper reported.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the LVMPD, as well as the legal teams for Hamade and Sobh and the Clark County public defender's office, for comment.

Azim told authorities he made sports bets with a "promoter/bookie," which led to him meeting Harb. At one point, Harb asked Azim to place a $2,300 bet on a New York Knicks basketball game, which eventually had a payout of $20,000.

Azim never placed the bet but told Harb that he did, he allegedly told police, according to the report.

"Naved did not tell Harb that the bet was never placed and decided to create a fake DraftKings sports betting ticket to reflect the bet," police said.

Harb continued to place bets with Azim, who failed to make the wagers due to a lack of funds, police said. Harb continued to believe that he had tallied up to $100,000 in winning bets.

"Naved believed that Harb would eventually lose a bet which would help cover up his lie of placing the bets; however, that did not happen," police said.

All three suspects were each granted $100,000 bail and ordered to have no contact with Azim.

The U.S. Men's National Team is 2-0 at the 2026 World Cup after a gutsy 2-0 win over the Socceroos that certainly wasn't easy at times.

Not even for the officials.

It was a hot day in Seattle, and it looks like that may have been a factor in German referee Felix Zwayer going down momentarily late in the game with what looked like a cramp.

And, in a scene you don't see every day, got a little assistance from Australia's Aiden O'Neill and U.S. star Folarin Balogun — who scored two goals in the opener against Paraguay and opened the scoring against Australia by setting up an own goal from Cameron Burgess — who coached him through some stretches.

Now, that's not something you see every day...

Zwayer was back on his feet after stretching with the help of Balogun and FIFA medical staff, plus another official ran over with a mystery liquid — judging by his reaction, I'm thinking it was maybe pickle juice — that he gulped down.

I'm sure Zwayer was a little embarrassed having to go down on the field and have an anti-cramp potion rushed out to him, but he shouldn't be.

All that was was a reminder of how insanely fit soccer referees have to be.

Referees running many miles every single game is one of the fun facts you hear from time to time and then forget about until the next time you hear it, then you say, "Yeah, that's right, I did hear that somewhere."

Well, there's a prime example of the physicality involved with the job.

It's not just jotting notes on the back of a card you just held in some dude's face.

Body found in South Carolina ID’d as missing fitness trainer who told friend she was 'scared for her life'

The body discovered earlier this week in Lexington County, South Carolina, has been positively identified as missing fitness trainer Elena Katherine Moore, authorities announced Friday.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office said the body of a white female found near Old Cherokee Road and Northlake Drive on June 17 was identified as Moore, 39, who disappeared after leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington on June 11.

Notably, the autopsy will not be conducted by the Lexington County Coroner's Office. Instead, Moore's body is being transported to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where a forensic autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Additional information regarding Moore's cause and manner of death is expected to be released Monday, June 22, according to the coroner's office.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office extended condolences to Moore's family and encouraged anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact SLED directly.

City of Seattle proves liberal newspaper wrong in patriotic display for US Men's National Team

Everything went right for the U.S. Men's National Team on Friday during their 2-0 win against Australia.

The win guaranteed the United States would move on to the knockout stages with their second victory in as many games.

While the story is all about another standout performance on the field, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the performance from the fans in (and outside) the stadium.

Fans showed up and showed out in Seattle to cheer on the American men as they clinched another trip to the knockout rounds of the World Cup, but for some, they were expecting a different outcome in the stands.

Publications like The Seattle Times predicted the atmosphere would be less than patriotic, presumably due to fans' conflicted feelings about President Donald Trump.

Before the game even kicked off, fans of the Stars and Stripes showed up in droves and flooded the FOX broadcast desk outside Seattle Stadium, prompting Rob Stone to declare he had "never seen anything like this in American soccer."

The game hadn't even started yet, but the American Outlaws were already full-throated in support of the U.S.

The raucous behavior only intensified after things got underway, and reached a fever pitch in the 11th minute after the U.S. went up 1-0 courtesy of an Australian own goal.

Then, the second goal happened (after a quick VAR session), and the celebration was truly on from that point forward.

It's always nice to see liberals be proven wrong time and time again by Americans who couldn't care less about politics when it comes to supporting their country, and The Seattle Times is just the latest victim of a patriotic dunking.

I'd like to think this USMNT would have won against Australia no matter the venue and crowd support, but it just makes it even sweeter that the fans made it a point to make this one of the best soccer environments ever seen on American soil.

This World Cup has been a windfall for the country, and we haven't even made it out of group play yet.

Now that the U.S. is on to the knockout stages, we might see a whole new sense of national pride.

By the end of this tournament, it might be time to start calling America a soccer nation.

North Carolina furniture manufacturer allegedly kills business partner hours after losing contract dispute

A North Carolina furniture manufacturer allegedly shot and killed his business partner this week after a court ruled against him in a contract dispute.

Willard Gary Black, 85, has been charged with second-degree murder in the Wednesday fatal shooting of Robert Roger Arguelles, who was struck in the chest and back, Queen City News reported.

The shooting happened at the Old Hickory Tannery, where Arguelles and Black were co-owners of the business.

Court records show that earlier that day, Black was ordered to pay Arguelles $310,882.74 after a contract dispute between the two men, Court TV reported.

In 2018, Black sold Arguelles 49.9% of the stock in his business. However, Arguelles said he had loaned Black $280,000, of which only $23,876.19 was ever repaid, the news outlet reported.

Both men reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit for $310,882.74, but after filing the paperwork with the court, Black sought to withdraw his consent.

On Wednesday, a judge denied his request and ordered Black to pay Arguelles, 59, the amount of the original agreement.

Hours later, both men got into an argument at the business, which led to the shooting, authorities said. Police officers arrived and attempted to save Arguelles, who died at the scene.

Arguelles had served as an Alexander County Schools board member since 2022.

In a statement, District Superintendent Bill Griffin described Arguelles as an "amazing father, husband, and board member who has faithfully supported our school system for almost four years."

"In honor of his memory, our district fully supports and respects the family’s privacy as they navigate this profound loss," he added.

Double endorsement drama: Trump backs second candidate in red state’s GOP gubernatorial runoff

President Donald Trump is making an 11th-hour endorsement in the final stretch ahead of Tuesday's high-profile Republican gubernatorial runoff in solidly red South Carolina, saying he "can't hurt one of them by only Endorsing the other."

Trump on Friday took to Truth Social to say that he was supporting longtime South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette in the battle for the GOP nomination in the race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Henry McMaster.

"I can’t hurt one of them by only Endorsing the other, so, therefore, I am going to Endorse, for Governor of South Carolina, both Pam Evette and Alan Wilson!" Trump wrote, adding: "With either one you can’t go wrong."

The endorsement of Wilson appears to be a move by Trump to hedge his bets, because Trump is already backing Evette, who is also supported by McMaster, a longtime top ally of the president.

The South Carolina runoff had been viewed as the latest test of Trump's immense grip over the GOP and the power of his endorsements in Republican nominating contests.

And his decision to back both Evette and Wilson isn't the first time he's made dual endorsements in the same Republican race. He was backing both Gina Swoboda and Jay Feely in next month's Republican primary in Arizona's 1st Congressional District before Swoboda dropped out of the congressional race to run for secretary of state.

Most famously, Trump endorsed "ERIC" in the 2022 GOP Senate primary in Missouri, where the two major candidates were Eric Schmitt and Eric Greitens. Both candidates claimed the endorsement, with Schmitt ultimately winning the nomination.

In South Carolina, Trump endorsed Evette late last month, a week and a half before the gubernatorial primary.

Evette finished on top of a crowded field of contenders in the primary election, with Wilson second. The field also included Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman, and multimillionaire businessman Rom Reddy. Since no candidate won a majority of the vote, as the top two finishers, Evette and Wilson advanced to the June 23 runoff.

Mace and Norman endorsed Wilson after failing to advance to the runoff. And Wilson was also backed a week ago by Sen. Ted Cruz, the conservative firebrand from Texas.

The runoff between Evette and Wilson has become combustible, and in Tuesday's final debate both candidates launched personal attacks and accused each other of lying and misrepresenting their records.

Wilson has worked to contrast his tenure as attorney general with what he's argued is Evette’s largely ceremonial role as lieutenant governor. And he has spotlighted his experience as a combat veteran, prosecutor, and the state’s top law enforcement official.

Evette has showcased herself as an outsider and a Trump-endorsed businesswoman, while casting Wilson as a career politician.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, who is supporting Wilson and has helped with fundraising, made calls on behalf of Wilson and encouraged the president's endorsement of the state attorney general, a source familiar told Fox News Digital.

It's been 28 years since a Democrat won a gubernatorial election in South Carolina, and the winner of the GOP runoff will be considered the clear favorite in the general election against Democratic nominee Jermaine Johnson, a state representative.

The brute force of the president's endorsement power has been on display in GOP primaries over the past two months, with his candidates ousting incumbents he targeted in showdowns in Indiana, Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas that grabbed plenty of national attention.

But Trump's endorsement streak in statewide and congressional Republican primaries was snapped three weeks ago when his last minute endorsement of Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra of Iowa in the race to succeed retiring GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds wasn't enough to propel the three-term congressman to victory.

Feenstra was narrowly edged by Zach Lahn, a businessman, farmer and former political strategist who was backed by the political wings of MAHA — the acronym for the Make America Healthy Again movement aligned with Trump Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — and Turning Point USA, the powerful conservative organization co-founded by the late Charlie Kirk.

Trump rebounded a week later, as Evette finished first in the GOP gubernatorial primary and longtime Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina won a majority of the vote in the Republican Senate primary, and avoided a runoff.

Graham, who was endorsed by Trump, was facing primary challenges from five candidates, including conservative businessman Mark Lynch, who took aim at the senator over his support for the war in Iran. Lynch was backed by some MAGA leaders who have been critical of the president.

And a couple of days ago, Trump-backed candidates won two of the three top races in Georgia and Alabama, with the one setback coming against a billionaire businessman who shelled out over $100 million of his own money to boost his campaign.

Rep. Barry Moore, a House Freedom Caucus member and longtime Trump supporter who was endorsed by the president, comfortably defeated rival Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL sniper who was supported by some top names on the right, in solidly red Alabama's GOP Senate runoff.

In battleground Georgia's Republican Senate runoff, an 11th hour endorsement by Trump this past weekend helped boost Rep. Mike Collins, a MAGA champion, to victory over former college football coach Derek Dooley, who was backed by popular conservative Gov. Brian Kemp.

Collins will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in the general election in a race that's among a handful that will likely decide if the GOP holds its slim majority in the chamber in the midterms.

Jones regularly showcased his Trump endorsement, but Jackson, who launched his bid in February long after the president had endorsed Jones, repeatedly said that Trump had inspired him to run.

But in Georgia's GOP gubernatorial runoff, the candidate Trump backed, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who was also endorsed by Kemp this past weekend, was defeated by Rick Jackson, who ran as an outsider.

A Trump political operative, pointing to Tuesday's loss by Trump-backed Jones, noted that "Rick Jackson set a record for spending in a statewide Republican primary. He spent Tom Steyer level money in a state a fraction of the size of California. That's going to have an impact."

And the operative, who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely, also emphasized that "Rick bearhugged Trump. All of his ads and material was about how he's going to be Trump's favorite governor. So the race was not really a referendum on Trump."

Two-train crash leaves at least 1 dead, 89 injured as emergency crews rush to chaotic scene

Authorities are responding after two passenger trains crashed into each other Friday near Bedford, England, killing at least one person and injuring nearly 90 others.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it was called to a collision involving two trains at Elstow, near Bedford, at about 5:15 p.m. local time and quickly declared a "major incident."

One person died at the scene, 11 people suffered very serious injuries, 22 were seriously injured and 56 people had minor injuries, officials said.

Bedford is roughly 60 miles north of London.

2 TRAINS COLLIDE IN DENMARK, LEAVING 5 PEOPLE CRITICALLY INJURED

All the patients with the most serious injuries have been taken from the scene to hospital.

The ambulance service said it sent numerous resources to the scene, including more than 20 ambulances, specialist hazardous area response teams and six air ambulances.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we thank all emergency service colleagues for their swift response," the ambulance service wrote in a statement.

Sources told The Telegraph the train driver was on the phone with maintenance staff discussing a safety issue at the time of the crash.

Los Angeles proposal to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections sparks online backlash

The Los Angeles City Council advanced a proposal Wednesday to give voters a say in November over whether city leaders may authorize noncitizens to vote in municipal and school board elections, drawing backlash from Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, GOP senators and conservative commentators.

"They have imported voters to win," Musk said on X.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, also criticized the proposal, tying it to Los Angeles officials’ opposition to federal immigration enforcement.

"The LA City Council wants to give local voting rights to illegals for the explicit purpose of empowering them against ICE and immigration enforcement," Lee said.

ELECTIONS WATCHDOG URGES SENATE GOP TO CLOSE NONCITIZEN VOTING LOOPHOLE

The proposal was introduced by Los Angeles City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martínez, and seconded by Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado, both Democratic socialists. The council approved the noncitizen voting provision on a 10-5 vote as part of a broader charter reform package headed toward the November ballot.

The city clerk's file says the measure would ask the city attorney to prepare documents for a November 2026 charter amendment giving the council authority to later introduce an ordinance authorizing noncitizen voting.

During the council debate, Soto-Martínez said a noncitizen parent who has lived in Los Angeles for years could have less electoral influence than a citizen who recently arrived for work.

"It just does not make sense to me that someone who moves to Los Angeles for a temporary job has more of a voice than a parent who has been here for decades raising their children through public schools," Soto-Martínez said.

KAREN BASS REFUSES TO GIVE 'YES OR NO' ANSWER ON WHETHER NONCITIZENS SHOULD VOTE IN LA: 'IT DEPENDS'

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said the Los Angeles vote fit into his broader concerns about California elections and federal voter eligibility legislation.

"Nobody should be surprised. They’ve always wanted illegals to vote, and they want fraud. That’s why I asked the DOJ to investigate what’s going on with California’s elections, and it’s EXACTLY why Democrats REFUSE to support the SAVE America Act," Scott said.

RealClearPolitics White House and national political correspondent Susan Crabtree said the vote showed why national Republicans should invest more heavily in California voter registration and turnout operations.

"On my podcast last week, LA GOP Chair Roxanne Hoge said the national Republicans need to stop using California as a punching bag and a bank (donations from deep-pocketed donors) and start investing in voter registration drives and turn-out operations," she said.

"Now we see why. The LA City Council just took steps to make illegal immigrant voting legal."

Elizabeth Barcohana, California GOP Jewish engagement chair, said the vote placed the issue on the same ballot as a statewide voter ID fight.

"It happened. LA City Council voted 10-5 to include giving illegals the right to vote in the City Charter reform referendum that will be on the November ballot," Barcohana said.

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, one of five members who opposed the provision, questioned whether Los Angeles County had been consulted on how it would implement a noncitizen voting system, according to CBS Los Angeles.

"I don’t even know that the county has actually been consulted in their ability to implement such a concept," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez also warned that city leaders could be advancing the proposal before knowing whether it could be carried out.

"I have apprehension of making false promises that give the suggestion that we’re able to advance something without even further vetting the ability to implement this," Rodriguez said, according to the New York Post. "I don’t want to pretend that people are going to take away from this that this is going to be available to them, and it’s not, because it’s not been baked out."

Federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections, while the Los Angeles proposal would be limited to city and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education races.

Fox News Digital reached out to council members Hugo Soto-Martinez and Ysabel Jurado for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Schiff silent on Biden-era Newsom probe report as California AG claims DOJ 'weaponization'

California Attorney General Rob Bonta doubled down on Gov. Gavin Newsom's claims that the Trump administration is weaponizing the Justice Department after being pressed on reports that the federal probe involving Newsom and his wife originated in California and was not opened by the Trump Administration in Washington, D.C.

"I know what I've concluded is that this is highly dubious — there's no trust in it," Bonta said. "This is someone who's weaponized the U.S. DOJ time and time again. I think he's doing it now."

Newsom took to X on Monday to publicly announce his uncovering that he and his wife, Jen Siebel Newsom are being investigated by the DOJ, claiming President Donald Trump directed the DOJ to investigate them and that they’ve joined "Donald Trump’s hit list."

GAVIN NEWSOM CLAIMS TRUMP ORDERED DOJ PROBE TARGETING HIM AND HIS WIFE

He is also widely claiming that Trump is targeting him because of recent speculation of Newsom as a promising 2028 presidential bid.

"Newsom is the governor for the biggest state, the bluest state in the nation, the fourth largest economy in the world," Bonta said "Everyone knows that he could be president of the United States. So you put that situational awareness and context into this, and what do you conclude?"

Bonta told Fox News Digital that Trump has "weaponized" the Justice Department, saying it has shifted from pursuing criminal prosecutions to conducting "political persecutions against political enemies."

He also claimed that Trump ordered former Attorney General Pam Bondi "to go after his political enemies."

Bonta claimed Trump has used the DOJ to commit "political persecution" of his enemies, including a specific reference to "shifty Schiff."

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., declined to answer questions from Fox News Digital about reports that the probe was opened by federal prosecutors in California rather than the administration in Washington.

ATTORNEY GENERAL BONDI CALLS OUT GAVIN NEWSOM FOR NOT PROTECTING CITY, VOWS TO PROSECUTE LOOTERS AND RIOTERS

Sources familiar told Fox News that the investigation has been ongoing since 2025 and that the probe is based on whistleblower complaints related to Newsom and his wife's personal finances. The case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Sacramento.

A source also said that Washington was not involved in the decision to open the probe, according to the Associated Press.

An investigation launched last year under then-President Joe Biden resulted in corruption charges against Newsom’s former chief of staff, Dana Williamson. She pleaded guilty to lying about sharing internal information with a former associate. Newsom was not involved in the probe personally. It is reported that Newsom’s office believes the Trump administration’s federal investigators widened the efforts of the probe to also look into Newsom.

The Governor’s office announced on Monday that it filed a public records request to the DOJ seeking documents that mention Newsom or his wife during Trump’s second term, including messages to and from Justice Department leaders.

USA World Cup team clinches spot in knockout stage after another historic performance vs Australia

A dream start for the United States Men's National Team continued on Friday, and the dream will continue into the next round.

The United States World Cup team clinched a spot in the knockout stage with its 2-0 victory over Australia in Seattle on Friday afternoon, its second win in as many games in this World Cup.

It's the first time since the inaugural World Cup in 1930 that the United States has won back-to-back World Cup games.

The United States' second World Cup match got off to an awfully familiar start. Flo Balogun’s pass hit Australia's Cameron Burgess and was directed into the net, resulting in an own goal in the 10th minute and giving the Americans an early lead in the group stage matchup.

It was the first time in World Cup history in which a team benefited from own goals in back-to-back games.

The field stayed tilted after the first goal, with the Stars and Stripes getting plenty of chances. Amazingly enough, though, they did not have a shot on goal for roughly 43 minutes.

But the U.S. found the back of the net at the tail end of that 43rd minute after a free kick was stopped, and then Alex Freeman, the son of former NFL player Antonio Freeman, headed a ball in. Officials initially ruled it offside, but a VAR check reversed the call, sending Seattle’s Lumen Field into a frenzy and giving Freeman, the youngest player on the roster at just 21-years-old, his first World Cup goal.

Through 71 minutes, the United States had possession of the ball for over 60% of the time as opposed to nearly 30% for Australia.

The United States is now 11-2-1 when scoring first in the World Cup.

It was announced before the game that Christian Pulisic would not play after suffering a calf injury last week. However, the Americans hardly missed a beat without him.

FOX ONE’S NEW WORLD CUP VIEWING EXPERIENCE

The team already has six goals in group play, tying its group stage record.

The United States would clinch a Group D victory, and a favorable draw in the Round of 32, if Paraguay either beats or ties with Turkey — that game kicks off at 11 p.m. ET.

However, a Turkey loss may actually not affect the United States too negatively. Sure, they would be in last place in the group by three points; but the U.S. would be able to rest a lot of its players — namely Pulisic — to give Turkey a favorable matchup to potentially snatch a Round of 32 spot.

The top two finishers from each of the 12 groups advance, as well as the eight-best third-place finishers. So while the U.S. may be able to sit comfortably for its own sake, it could certainly be involved in some mayhem.

No matter the case, the United States will take the pitch back in Los Angeles against Turkey next Thursday.

Transgender former New Hampshire state representative sentenced to 33 years for child sex abuse: report

A transgender former New Hampshire state representative will spend more than three decades in federal prison after admitting to receiving nude photos of children at a Massachusetts daycare.

Stacie Marie Laughton, 41, of Nashua was sentenced to more than 33 years behind bars after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of children, according to a report from local outlet WCVB.

Laughton received the explicit images from his former intimate partner, Lindsay Groves, 40, of Hudson, New Hampshire, who was sentenced earlier this month to 22 years in prison, according to the report.

Groves, who previously pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distribution of child pornography, was employed at the Creative Minds daycare in neighboring Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Authorities said that between May 2022 and June 2023, Groves took multiple photos of prepubescent children in a private bathroom during routine diaper and pull-up changes prior to nap time.

WASHINGTON STATE TEACHER CHARGED WITH INCEST AFTER ALLEGEDLY HAVING SEX WITH TWO TEENAGE BOYS SHE ADOPTED

Groves then sent the photos to Laughton via text message, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A forensic review of Laughton and Groves’ cellphones uncovered more than 10,000 text messages sent between the two over a one-month period in 2023.

Court documents revealed the messages included discussions about and transfers of explicit images of children, including victims as young as 3 to 5 years old.

The U.S. Attorney's Office confirmed all the children in the case were identified, and their families were contacted by law enforcement.

Hillsborough County jail officials confirmed to NH Journal that Laughton has been housed in the male population.

Creative Minds Early Learning Center and the U.S. Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment.

A popular South Carolina river hangout erupted into chaos when a massive brawl broke out, with shocking video showing dozens of people crowding around as punches flew and fighters grappled in the water.

Videos from the June 6 incident at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in Calhoun County show multiple fights breaking out simultaneously while large crowds gathered to watch.

In one video, several people can be seen throwing punches while others attempt to separate those involved. Another clip shows people wrestling and exchanging blows in knee-deep water as bystanders shout and record the chaos on their phones.

The violent confrontation has now led to six arrests and a continuing investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

"The injuries were severe," Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers told the outlet.

Authorities have not publicly identified what sparked the violence, but Summers said alcohol was a factor and that deputies identified numerous cases of underage drinking.

According to the sheriff's office, six people have been arrested in connection with the brawl. Authorities identified the suspects as Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell and Taylor Knudson. The suspects face various assault and breach-of-peace charges stemming from the incident.

The sheriff's office said the investigation remains active and additional arrests are expected as detectives continue reviewing video and information submitted by the public.

In announcing the arrests, Summers said authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and encouraged anyone with information to contact investigators.

"This kind of behavior will not be tolerated," the sheriff said.

New Air Force One takes flight as Trump unveils revamped presidential aircraft

President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a newly refurbished presidential aircraft at Joint Base Andrews, touting its size, luxury and updated red, white and blue paint scheme as the Air Force prepares the jet for service.

The Boeing 747-8i, donated by the government of Qatar and modified for presidential use, is expected to serve as an interim Air Force One while Boeing continues work on two delayed VC-25B replacement aircraft.

Standing alongside Air Force leaders and service members, Trump said the aircraft's most noticeable feature is its size.

"The biggest difference is the difference in size. It's like virtually double the size," Trump said.

Reporters were later given a brief tour of the aircraft, which featured wood-paneled interiors, gold-toned fixtures and tan-and-gold seating throughout. Spacious cabins, large television screens and polished metallic finishes gave the jet an upscale feel.

Near the front of the aircraft, reporters viewed a private suite with lounge-style seating before passing a conference room featuring a large table, a painting of the Washington Monument overlooking the Reflecting Pool and a decorative bookcase surrounding a television screen.

The aircraft's press cabin spans the width of the rear section of the jet and includes 24 seats arranged across three sections. Each seat is equipped with its own entertainment screen, and the cabin appeared significantly larger than the press area aboard the current Air Force One fleet.

The Air Force said the aircraft will soon begin commissioning flights, a final phase of testing before entering operational service.

"The safety and security of the commander in chief is our highest priority," Air Force Secretary Troy Meink said. "From the beginning, we meticulously evaluated every requirement to accelerate delivery while maintaining the high standards expected of the presidential mission."

Trump said he sought the aircraft after becoming frustrated with delays to Boeing's Air Force One replacement program and growing comparisons between the aging U.S. presidential fleet and newer aircraft operated by foreign governments.

"I asked the Emir if we could use the brand new 747," Trump said, noting the aircraft had relatively few flight hours and describing the current presidential fleet as aging.

"Our country has to be represented properly," he added.

The aircraft features Trump's preferred red, white and dark blue color scheme, replacing the light blue-and-white design that has defined presidential aircraft since the Kennedy administration. Earlier this year, the Air Force confirmed the updated paint scheme would become the standard across the presidential and executive airlift fleet, including the VC-25B aircraft currently under development.

Trump also praised the aircraft's interior craftsmanship and described it as "considered the world's most luxurious plane."

Trump said the aircraft could also play a prominent role in next year's America 250 celebration, predicting it would lead a July 4 flyover over Washington featuring fighter jets and other military aircraft. The president called it "a flyover like no flyover" and said the display could include F-22s, F-35s and other aircraft from across the U.S. military.

The Pentagon accepted the Qatari aircraft last year and has spent recent months preparing it for presidential service. Officials have said the timeline moved more quickly than the broader Air Force One replacement effort because the aircraft's interior required fewer modifications than the VC-25B program.

Trump also praised the more than 250 personnel who worked around the clock to prepare the aircraft for service, saying the jet was transformed into what he called a "flying White House" in roughly 10 months.

The jet is expected to bridge the gap until Boeing delivers two next-generation Air Force One aircraft, which are not expected to be completed for roughly two more years.

The post says that the image is partially AI-generated, but they're working on the real deal.

Now, I love bespoke equipment that solves a very specific problem, but there's another solution that I think everyone is forgetting.

So, Hidden Valley folks, listen up...

You need to set up pop-up ranch stores in airport terminals after TSA. That way, fans can just stick it in their carry-on.

Hell, it was this phenomenon that led to me buying a Lebanon bologna one time and flying with it in my backpack (that was actually a very good decision in retrospect, and it made my backpack smell delicious).

So, while I like where the Kraft heads are at, I think there are a few more weeks of World Cup action that could see record airport terminal ranch sales if companies play their cards right.

Tensions flare on 'The View' after Sunny Hostin claims Joy Behar 'in love' with JD Vance

Co-hosts of "The View" grilled Joy Behar on Friday about being a courteous host to Vice President JD Vance when he appeared on the liberal daytime talk show on Tuesday, and she argued she was simply following the example of the late Barbara Walters.

"It’s like with JD. He was here the other day," Behar said as the panel looked back on the interview with Vance. "I respect the office. I believe in reaching across the aisle. I do."

Moments later, co-host Sunny Hostin asked, "But I want to know, why were you so in love with JD Vance?"

"I wasn’t in love. I’m not in love with him, and I’m not in love with this administration," Behar replied.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Vance addressed skepticism about his skills in "hostile, high-stakes negotiations" with Iran by joking that his appearance on "The View" was all the proof anyone needed.

"I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago, I spent over an hour on ‘The View,’ so I actually have great experience in very hostile negotiations," he quipped. "Look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now."

A clip of that moment was played on "The View" on Friday, getting laughter from the audience and co-hosts alike, as co-host Sunny Hostin asked, "What!? We were more difficult to deal with than the Iranian government?"

"He’s being funny, I think," Behar replied, as co-host Ana Navarro replied and wished that Behar could be the one negotiating with the Iranian government.

"It did not ‘work’ on me," Behar said, appearing visibly annoyed that she was being accused of being swayed. "It did not. I respect the office. I’m a civilized human being, and when someone comes on my show, then you treat them like a human being."

"Barbara Walters did say that," Hostin admitted.

"I learned under Barbara Walters," Behar said, as she and Hostin both spoke about the late creator and founder of "The View."

Hostin remembered that when she first came on the show as a guest co-host years ago, Walters had advised, "When someone comes to your house, you treat them well. She did tell me that."

While some of the co-hosts were skeptical about Vance’s political changes over the years, Behar defended him, "You know what? I believe people are redeemable. I remember when he wrote the ‘Hillbilly Elegy.’ He grew up poor. It was a really good book. He was not the person he is now. I agree with that, maybe he’ll go back to that. Who knows? I can only hope!"

Behar confirmed that she told Vance during a commerical break on Tuesday that he had a good vibe "for a Republican" and suggested he should run for president.

'Political stunt' prosecution of ICE agent for 'road rage' provokes heated DHS response

The Department of Homeland Security is accusing Minnesota officials of staging a "political stunt" as federal and state authorities square off over whether an ICE agent accused of pointing a gun at motorists should be prosecuted in state or federal court.

The dispute centers on Gregory Morgan Jr., an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent charged with two counts of second-degree assault after prosecutors said he pointed a handgun at motorists during a traffic confrontation while returning from a federal immigration enforcement operation in the Twin Cities.

Morgan's attorneys, backed by federal officials, argue he is protected under legal doctrines stemming from the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which establishes that federal law supersedes conflicting state laws. Courts have recognized that federal officers may, in certain circumstances, be shielded from state prosecution for actions taken in the course of their official duties. But Minnesota prosecutors say those protections do not apply here, arguing Morgan's alleged conduct fell outside any legitimate federal law-enforcement function.

The case has grown into a broader fight over the legal protections afforded to federal officers. Hennepin County prosecutors are seeking to keep the matter in state court, while the federal government has joined Morgan's effort to move it to federal court. Earlier this week, the Department of Justice filed a notice seeking to have Senior Trial Attorney Paul Quast appear on behalf of the United States in the case.

"These actions by Minnesota sanctuary politicians are nothing more than a political stunt," a DHS spokesperson said in a statement. "States do not have the authority to charge a federal law enforcement officer while performing his official duties."

COLORADO DA PURSUES ASSAULT CHARGE AGAINST FEDERAL IMMIGRATION OFFICER, DHS CONDEMNS 'POLITICAL STUNT'

The statement came as Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty's office urged a federal judge to reject Morgan's request to transfer the case out of Minnesota state court.

In filings submitted this week, prosecutors argued Morgan is attempting to "transform his moment of road rage — committed on a state highway against Minnesota victims — into a federal enforcement action."

The filing, submitted by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office along with the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and the Washington Litigation Group, contends there is no meaningful connection between the alleged assault and Morgan's responsibilities as an ICE agent.

According to prosecutors, Morgan's authority to arrest and detain individuals suspected of violating immigration laws did not extend to confronting motorists on a Minnesota highway.

"There is no evidence of any job-related circumstance requiring the defendant to rush to his destination or to drive on the highway shoulder to get there," the filing states. "It was the defendant's decision to drive illegally on the shoulder to avoid the inconvenience of rush-hour traffic, and to draw and point his firearm at motorists who got in his way."

Morgan's attorney, Ryan Pacyga, filed the removal petition last week, arguing the alleged conduct occurred while Morgan was performing federal law enforcement duties and that both he and his partner feared "imminent bodily harm" during the encounter.

According to court records, Morgan was returning to the Whipple Federal Building at Fort Snelling on Feb. 5 after participating in Operation Metro Surge when the incident occurred on Highway 62 near the Interstate 35W interchange.

Prosecutors say Morgan and another ICE agent were driving on the highway shoulder during rush hour when a Cadillac moved over and blocked their path. Authorities allege Morgan then pulled alongside the vehicle, drew a handgun and pointed it at the occupants.

One of the motorists called 911 and reported that a man had aimed a Glock at his face, while both occupants later told investigators they feared for their safety. Morgan was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and was released after posting $100,000 bail.

Morgan's case is not the only prosecution stemming from Operation Metro Surge.

Moriarty's office later charged another ICE agent, Christian Castro, with multiple assault counts in connection with the alleged shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis, an incident that sparked protests in north Minneapolis.

Russell Crowe says 'Gladiator II' failed because it lacked original film's 'moral core'

Russell Crowe is opening up about his career-defining role and why he thinks efforts to replicate the magic of the film with a sequel failed.

During a panel at the Taormina Film Festival, the 62-year-old actor spoke about the sequel to "Gladiator," noting he believed it was unsuccessful because it was missing the "moral core" of the original 2000 movie, per Variety.

"When we were shooting that film, there was a lot of pressure. The studio, the producers [thought] there should be sex between Maximus and the female characters. I kept pushing back," he said of the original film. "This is the story of a man avenging the death of his wife and his child. There cannot be a moment in that journey where he stops and has sex with somebody. It doesn’t make any sense because that destroys the journey."

He explained that director Ridley Scott agreed with him that an intimate scene between him and Connie Nielsen would take away from the "emotional core" of the film and excluded it from the movie.

The "Les Misérables" star went on to say he found it interesting for executives "to destroy that moral centre" in the 2024 sequel.

"It’s very interesting because the second movie barely took the same box office that the first movie took. That’s 20 years later," he said. "When you apply how much of a change there’s been on the value of a dollar, they failed. They failed because they didn’t understand why [the original movie] was successful — it had a moral core."

The original film brought in about $465.5 million at the global box office in 2000, while the second earned about $462.1 in 2024, but adjusted for inflation, the original film's gross box office number would have been much more.

Crowe explained that while the studio didn't know why the film was such a success, he realized that "from the second week of release globally, there were always more women in the theaters than men."

"You think that on the surface ‘Gladiator’ is a movie for men, but if it was a movie for men, it would be about revenge, but it’s not about revenge. It is a movie for women because it is about vengeance," he explained. "[‘Gladiator’] was successful because it had a moral core. In a way, we all want to be that guy who can stay that strong, if you’re a man. And if you’re a woman, we all want a man to love us in that way."

The original film followed Crowe as Maximus, a once-powerful general who is sold into slavery and trained as a gladiator after the emperor's son gets jealous of him and kills his family.

It went on to become the second-highest grossing film of 2000 and won five Academy Awards, including best picture and best actor for Crowe.

The second film stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Maximus, who returns to Rome as a prisoner and is trained to be a gladiator for Macrinus, a former slave played by Denzel Washington, who has plans to overthrow the twin emperors.

"All we had to do was put the clothes on and start talking," Washington said at a Los Angeles screening of the movie in October 2024. "I’m serious. What Ridley did, which was great, is he built Rome… When we would walk around, you were in Rome [with] 10,000 extras and horses. I mean, it was make-believe, it was play."
