I took this pic of the tornado devastation from a helicopter. Griff Jenkins and I wanted to get pictures for you so that you could see the depth of this crisis – so we asked Reverend Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse to take us up in one of their helicopters where we could shoot still pics and video for you. Everywhere we looked it was a nightmare. It is a heartbreak to know so many people are going through this hell. 13,000 homes destroyed and with it so many memories….and of course, the loss of life.

Reverend Franklin Graham was asked by the Plaza Towers maintenance men to pray with them

There will be more pics later, but while Reverend Graham was at the Plaza Towers school where the children had died from the tornado, the maintenance workers, who have taken care of the school for years and know the children, asked him to pray with them. The men also built a cross for each child who died at the school and they put the crosses up in the school yard while Reverend Franklin was there and he participated in an impromptu memorial for the children.

I went to the tornado area … and it is worse than your wildest imagination. But despite the horror (and I have lots of video and pics for you), many are turning out to help. Volunteers have had a hard time getting in because of traffic and danger — but already you can see enthusiasm and help. For instance, today there were 143 Samaritan’s Purse volunteers helping. Just think, if each works 10 hours, and I suspect they are working longer than 10 hours, just today they put in 1430 hours of help.
