A Successful Week of Fund Raising

This week saw a great deal of fund raising for Haiti Earthquake Relief. On Wednesday (as mentioned on this blog earlier this week), The Red Carpet Comedians raised over $400 for the relief efforts. Not only were many of the comedians generous with their time but also with their cash. As a performance, the show was another great success with tons of new material that you’ll be hearing on TV and in comedy clubs very soon. You can read more about it on the Red Carpet Comedy Blog.

The very next night Donovan Deschner was back at Club Paradiso hosting a special event for the same cause. The scope of this project was much larger; including a variety show with eight different acts, raffle items, and live auction. As such, a tremendous amount of cash was raised; over $7,000! This is a stunning feat given that only about 60 people can fit into the club. Thank you to the staff of Club Paradiso (all of whom donated their time for the cause) for putting on such a great event and getting Donovan involved.

Red Carpet Comedians Donate Time For Haiti

This Wednesday night’s Red Carpet Comedy has been scheduled since the end of last year. It will be the third show in the series (which will go on indefinitely). While the performance will go ahead as normal (same time, place, etc.) the proceeds from the show will now be donated to The Red Cross’ Haitian Relief Efforts.

Tickets (as always) are only $10. Those people that don’t want to “text in” their $10 donation can pay for a ticket at the door, 100% of the ticket price will be donated and they’ll receive an evening of entertainment in return.

Great First Show Means A Second!

The first Red Carpet Comedy on September 16, 2009, was such a success that we’ve decided to do it all again. On October 28, 2009, at the same time (8:00PM) and place (Club Paradiso), there will be another show featuring 12 professional comics and their newest material.

When this show first began it was run as a “test” to see how the audience reacted and what the comedians thought of the idea. Given the current trend that the show is on it is highly likely that this will become a monthly performance, and this second show will be a huge indicator of that.

This next show will have a slightly different format; while the first performance was hosted by our own featured performer, Donovan Deschner, this performance will not have an MC at all. (Although, Donovan will still be presenting 10-minutes of all new material.) Instead, each performer will introduce the next, who will introduce the next, and so on for the entire evening.

Not Just Live Events Anymore

It’s always surprising the diversity of projects that find their way to us. This early part of the month of August was spent working with a new company called Text Link Pro. They work hard to connect website owners that need to increase their search engine rankings naturally and the bloggers and site publishers that can help with that goal. While it is a bit technical to explain, we were called upon to make that bit of learning as much as fun as possible.

Fracture A Femur produced two segments for YouTube: one for each of their audiences (website advertisers and website publishers). You can check out their YouTube channel to take a look at both videos.

All Professionals, All New Material

In the fall of this year Fracture A Femur Productions will be a part of Calgary’s first professional only open mic night: Red Carpet Comedy. This will be where Calgary’s comedy professionals come to try out their new material on a ready and willing audience. It’s a stage that they will use to stay on their best game, and to make sure that they always have new material ready for their fans.

While the opening night date is still to be confirmed (it will be in September or October of this year), a website has been created with all the information that we have to date. Click here to read all about the show.

That’s A Wrap!

7 shows, over 300 tickets, and countless hours of preparation, all culminated in Saturday night’s final performance of Tuesdays With Morrie. The show’s run was a huge success with rave reviews still coming in. Many audience members commented on how great the story of Morrie Schwartz and Mitch Albom really is… and that is why the director and actors worked so hard to tell (and share) that story; it deserves to be experienced by an many people as possible.

We’ve taken the time to create an online scrapbook of the show. You can click here to view it. On that page you will find photos (most photos by Steve Nagy) plus some other items from the production and weeks leading up to it.

The closing night gala (with wine and appetizers) was also a huge success. We had a packed house that night and the show brought the audience to their feet.

Betty’s Run

There is a great deal of serendipitous timing with the closing night of Tuesdays With Morrie (tickets on sale now) and the ALS Society’s “Betty’s Run” to promote research into a cure for ALS. The show closes on June 13 and the ALS event is on June 14.

For those of you that don’t know the title character in Tuesdays With Morrie, Morrie Schwartz, was diagnosed with ALS and that is what brought his former student, Mitch Albom, back to learn from him. While a portion of proceeds from the run of Tuesdays With Morrie will go toward ALS – this run is another great way to help support this worthy cause.

Rehearsals Have Begun!

Rehearsals for Fracture A Femur’s upcoming production of “Tuesdays With Morrie” have begun. The play is now “rough blocked” and this process will continue until June when the show goes up in Calgary, Alberta. While tickets are not yet on sale, a number of people have inquired about more information. Ticket sales will begin on April 7, 2009. (A portion of proceeds will, of course, be donated to The Alberta ALS Society to further research and assistance for those with ALS.)
