eBay responds to French Court Ruling Versus LVMH

eBay has responded to a decision by Commercial Court of Paris versus LVMH, to fine eBay EUR1.7 million in relation to an injunction that prevents French eBay users from buying or selling LVMH Group perfumes and cosmetics on any eBay website.

Avon announce third quarter results

Avon have reported their third-quarter 2009 total revenue of $2.6 billion, 4% lower than that of 2008's third quarter, but up 7% on a local-currency basis as foreign exchange pressured growth by 11 percentage points. Beauty sales in the third quarter of 2009 were 3% lower versus the prior-year period, but increased 8% on a local-currency basis. Active Representatives grew 10%, with growth in all regions. Units overall rose 5% versus the prior-year quarter and Beauty units increased 6%.

The commercial court in Paris has, in a ruling announced yesterday, upheld a claim made by LVMH against eBay. The court has ruled that, by allowing the sale of counterfeit goods on its website to the detriment of Louis Vuitton Malletier and Christian Dior Couture, eBay was guilty of gross misconduct and of detrimental breach as, through accountable negligence, eBay had not taken the necessary measures to prevent the sale of the counterfeit goods on its site.
