Been playing with Corel Painter 11 lately.  This was done entirely with the built-in 2B pencil, trying to stay fast and loose and avoid getting too precious.

A game we invented for Emily’s birthstone-themed eighth birthday party!  I freehanded (ha!) the drawing onto 28″ x 22″ poster board, which was a bit of a struggle until I decided to stop using my own meaty man-hands as visual reference.

This week’s Anthdrawlogy topic was “weddings.”  A wise literary agent recently pointed out to me that wedding imagery isn’t necessarily the best choice for a children’s book portfolio, but I couldn’t resist attempting a kid theme for this one.  Also: am I too dinosaur obsessed?

This is a quick ten-minute drawing I did for Anthdrawlogy.  I also filmed the process (first time!) using an overly-elaborate camera rig I fashioned out of a boom mic stand.   The short version is a time-lapse, compressed to one minute.  The long version is at normal speed, with intermittent explainey bits that I mumbled as they occurred to me.

This book was previously published in print by Dutton Children’s Books (an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group).  The author, Michele Ivy Davis, managed to hold onto her digital rights, and is now in the process of re-launching it as an e-book.  AND, she’s live-blogging the entire experience!  You can keep up with the latest developments here.
