It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like... Christmas?

Is it seriously almost Christmas? I live in Canada, the butt of all winter jokes and there isn't an ounce of snow to be found. It's not even cold... To be honest, I even felt stupid standing next to a Christmas tree while a warm breeze blew through my hair. Anyway, it's exam week crunch time and what better way to avoid all of my responsibilities and commitments than going out on a Friday night to drink? It was a trick question, there isn't one.

Here is what I wore last night. I bought these ASOS pants like 3 years ago for fifteen bucks and I've actually never worn them. I'm not really sure why because they are kind of great and super amazing for mastering the whole winter color-block trend. Paired with my JC boots (that I know you guys are getting sick of, sorry!) another one of my DIY chiffon tops and my trusty camel coat. Midnight photo shoot in the bushes courtesy of Liz Earle.

I'm not going to lie to you guys, I sort of forgot I started this segment until someone emailed me asking "When will you be posting another 'Girl of my Dreams' post?" and I was like Oh My God, what is wrong with me?! Meet Zalia of Zalia Mak. Zalia is a 24 year old fashion designer from Guang Zhou, China who's ever changing wardrobe is complete opposite of boring! I have been following Zalia on Lookbook for years now and once I started this segment, I knew I had to interview her! Birthday Witch

Today my friends, is my 21st birthday! I have never really been a "birthday person" who has wanted to go out and celebrate. I'd always much rather spend the night at home, in bed with my dog, my wifi and this whole cheesecake, but this year I spent a night partying with a bunch of my closest and best friends (I will defiantly be sharing pictures later on this week once I develop them!) and it was one of, if not my best birthday yet. I did not get any great photos of my outfit, which I happened to make that morning, but this is what I wore to my "hangover brunch" today. After living on coffee, pulling multiple all-nighters and almost having a mini break down during my exams, it is finally reading week! Now, I'm not sure if it was the lack of sleep or me just completely losing my mind, but I had an extremely strange, yet amazingly detailed Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century inspired dream a few night ago, and ever since I have been on the hunt for a head-to-toe silver outfit.

Zetus lupetus guys, stop judging me on my love for shitty Disney programming! It really was a fabulous outfit in that dream... I'm determined to find it! I think there is something amazing about looking slightly out of this world right now, I kind of dig it. It's sort of chic in a "look at me, I'm futuristic yet slightly crazy for wearing head-to-toe silver" kind of way. It's almost like an all black outfit, just in all metallic. Snake Charmer

I believe that almost every animal print (with the exception of cow, dalmatian and extremely horrid zebra...) will always have its place in fashion. The trend just never seems to completely die! I've had this fabric for ages, just sitting at the bottom of my fabric bin, waiting ever so patiently to be used. This week I finally put it to good use and made this athletic wear inspired, drawstring wait skirt. Super easy, super quick, and quite cute! (If I do say so myself!) Seeing as I haven't been buying much clothing these days *just the woes of a broke student, yet again...* I've been playing with the existing texture and print in my closet. Paired this metallic sequin tank with the snakeskin skirt, my new favourite boots (if you couldn't already tell!) and my trusty black blazer.

Yes, this post is actually happening and no, you did not read that title wrong... This is Kimye Style: 101. If you know anything about me, it should be that I am 100%, completely obsessed with Kanye West + Kim Kardashian couple style. *From here on in, they will be referred to as their appropriately lux sounding hybrid name... "Kimye"* It's one of those not-so-guilty pleasures that I have made publicly known via twitter... And tumblr... And in real life...

Now, let me start by saying that this is NOT a post debating weather or not their relationship is going to last (which it will...) and this is definitely NOT a post hating Kim Kardashian for changing her personal style while with Kanye (which you're all entitled to have your opinions on...) This is simply a humorous and informative master post of everything you need to know about flawless Kimye style, and how to achieve it.

Alright, are you ready? Press play on one of the two official Kimye songs (and by "official" I mean he mentions her and that's good enough for me) and lets go!

Forget everything you ever thought you knew, and focus. There are now only seven colors that exist: Black, White, Grey, Tan, (Beige, Nude, Off-white, Cream, etc...) Red, Olive Green and Navy Blue. Act as if you've never seen any other color during the course of your life... This, is basically your new rainbow. Get rid of anything that does not fall under this plethora of neutral tones. An Actual Outfit

I hate to say it, but this is as "dressy" as it's getting these days. If you have been reading my tweets, you know that school is completely kicking my ass right now. Getting dressed in the morning REALLY is not a priority after a 16 hour school day and 4 hours of sleep... Anywho, enough about my woes, I have spent the last 4 weeks in sweats, tights, t-shirts, denim jackets and knitted hats and this is the first "actual outfit" I have put on in some time, which is sad because it's main objective is still comfort... Whatevs! I paired these leather pants with the most comfortable sweater I own and my new suede boots for a comfy causal look.

Back with another one. *sigh* So many lovely ladies with blogs, so little time! I've clearly been living under a rock because it took me too long to realize that this months girl was actually a blogger! Meet Taylor of Vintage Curvette. Taylor is a 19 year old design student from Brisbane, Australia who's vintage aesthetic is nothing short of fabulous. I'd been following Taylor for almost 8 months on Instagram, liking almost all of the photos on her page before I actually realized she had a blog. (Duh Franceta, people don't just take outfit pictures and post them on Instagram for the hell of it, do the math!) When I came across it, I spent more time then i'd care to admit swooning over her photos. Leather skirts, flower crowns and constant hair changes? Truly a girl after my own heart! Black Chiffon IS The Answer

I'd say that my "Summer Goth" looks are back in full effect. Honestly, I try to avoid posting my all-black ensembles, mainly because they almost ALL consist of the wonder fabric that is black chiffon, some sort of plain black bottom and this lipstick... but I felt cute today so, sue me! I made this dress (shirt) a couple of weeks ago and I've pretty much been wearing it ever since. It's floor length with two thigh high slits up the front. I seriously do need to find somewhere to go, worthy of it's sheer, pelvic-baring inappropriateness. Tucked into these studded black Blu Blush cut-offs, worn with corresponding gold jewellery and my favourite ASOS sunnies.

The Stark White Room

If you follow me on twitter and/or instagram (um, you should totally go do that, right after reading this!) you are well aware that I am in the middle of revamping my bedroom, right before I ~~drag myself~~ back to school. Seeing as I do this almost every year, this is pretty natural behaviour for me. By the end of every summer season, I try revive my living space into a representation of who I have become over those three months of complete and utter freedom! Years ago I came to the conclusion that I am an extreme visual learner; thus when I surround myself with pretty, stimulating and well organized things, I tend to think pretty, stimulating and well organized thoughts! Plus, coming home to an inspiring living space filled with items that I love, is always a nice way to end a long ~~work~~ school day.

Usually, I just update the photographs in my frames, buy a few new pillows, throw out all that useless crap I have lying around and maybe hang a shelf or two, the simple stuff. This year, I took my love for all things monochrome to a new level and I painted my walls stark white. I've got to say, it's a wonderful change from the glossy finish, dark grey cave I used to live in. My new matte white room is perfection and extremely organized (almost beyond even my comprehension!) and now for a little inspiration towards what I'm going to fill it with!

Summer Knits

Look Summer, you've been great and I've appreciated the time we've had together this year but, I'm done. I'm bored and I think we need a break. It's not you, its me... Well, no. It's you, but I'll see you next year, right? RIGHT? Whatever! I seriously cannot even wait for Fall. Dressing for fall has got to be one of my favorite pastimes. By the time August rolls around, I'm pretty much done with the heat and hot sun. Bring out the scarves, boots and chunky knits! New Look is doing an amazing job designing pieces for this fall. This sweater is beyond gorgeous and it was super inexpensive. Also happens to be a great transitional piece that I will defiantly be putting to great (over)use until fall rolls around. Paired with a bright orange bandage skirt, hunter green accessories and a side fishtail braid for a cute, end of summer look.

The Chuck Taylor is back in full force... Well, technically they never left, but you see what I'm getting at here. These iconic canvas sneakers were made grossly popular in the 60's and are now making their way back into the style spotlight. The sole reason these shoes remain so timeless is their versatility! They seriously seem to go with everything from the frilliest of summer dresses to skinny jeans and t-shirts. They come in thousands of different colours and patterns and they're a great investment piece because they aren't going anywhere any time soon! I for one, couldn't be happier about it! As a sporty girl at heart, I love that I can dust off my chucks from grade seven and work them back into my updated wardrobe. Want to incorporate this comfortable alternitive into your wardrobe? Things Aren't Always Black & White

Well... These days, they have been. It seems like I have a new "go-to" every season and this summer has been all about the monochrome outfit for me. I own an unnatural amount of black & white pieces, so I'd say it's almost imposable to avoid this combo every now and then. It's easy, it looks cute but most importantly... it's quick! Meeting some friends for brunch, I paired a striped shirt with my trusty leather vest, white denim cut-offs and my Doc Martin boots.

Neon: It Lives On

If you we're wondering, my chartreuse addiction is still going strong, and thankfully so is the neon trend this summer! I swear when this trend dies, I'm going to be the owner of the worlds largest supply of neon yellow ~fashion. (I'm totally okay with this...) Anywho, I went out for dinner with some friends and this is what I wore. I'm still forever lusting over those American Apparel disco pants, but these Gisela Ramirez leggings are a pretty amazing substitute. Paired with a navy blue and white striped tank, neon accessories and patent pumps.

5 Beauty Items I Can't Go Without

I'm asked "What are your favourite beauty products?" almost on a weekly basis and honestly, I never really have an answer! It would be an understatement to say that I'm not much of a "beauty" girl... Let's be honest here, I barely wash my face and comb my hair in the morning. So, I like to keep it simple with as few products as I can get away with, and when I find something I actually like, I stick with it! Hell, I even buy it in bulk in case the manufacture stops making it, or the world ends... you know, WHATEVER! Here are 5 beauty items that I simply cannot go without:

1. Tweezerman Tweezers
Seem's pretty weird that my first "go to" beauty item is a pair of tweezers, right? WRONG: It is a fact that Tweezerman tweezers are the God of all tweezers. Yes, they are expensive and yes you will cry while buying them... Or maybe that's just me, but these tweezers will change your whole life. I'm a pretty hairy being and my face is really no exception. I get ingrown hairs, uni-brows and upper lip fuzz and these tweezers help me though all that trauma! Also, I've been doing my own brows ever since the brow accident of 2004, and these are phenomenal... (If you must know... My brow lady moved back to india, I had my brows waxed by someone new, I ended up looking like a Chola... It was a bad time in my life. And no, you may not see photos!)

2. Shea Moisture: Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Okay, this stuff is messiah of curly hair... Yeah, I took it there! I was looking for an all natural, curly hair moisturiser online and came across a few reviews for this product. Truthfully, I was hoping I wasn't going to like it only because I have to order it on eBay... (Which is a pain in the ass if you run out!) but it really is amazing. I only started using this stuff last month but I'm already hooked! It's made from 100% organic ingredients, has no parabens, no sulfates, and no synthetic fragrance, which I really love. It smells amazingly fruity, it's not overpowering and over all, it's just an amazing product. If you are a curly haired girl like myself, I would highly recommend you try Shea Moisture products. For $9.99 a tub, you really have nothing to lose!

Okay, another pretty basic item, but it does the job! During the summer and winter months, I tend to get cold sores and my lips do this thing where they start to peel and bleed, it's really just... Not cute at all. Only this stuff stops them from doing it. I've tried countless lip balms, ointments, scrubs and even different items in the Blistex family, this is the only one that solves everything. If I loose this, I run out and buy another one right away... It's that serious.

4. Burt's Bees: Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme

Hang nails are the downfall to my life... Okay, a little dramatic, but you catch my drift. Story time: I was riding the bus one day, filing my nails because I had just ripped one clear in half (always fun!) when a very adorable older lady offered me some of her cuticle creme. I couldn't say no to that face, so I scooped some out, and proceeded to deal with my nail issue. The next morning I woke up and all of my hang nails were gone... I then went on a 2 year wild goose chase for this stuff, and when I found it, I bought 6 tins of it. THE END! Seriously though, this stuff is amazing, it helps with dry cuticles, brittle nails, chapped or cracked fingertips, and clearly, hang nails. Really handy stuff!

5. Smashbox: Photo Set Finish Powder

Along with being a hairy, frizzy headed, hangnailed, peeled lip monster, I am also a bucket of grease when I sit in the sun! (If you still love me after reading all of this, you are truly my people and I luv you!) Though I'm sure this is not what it was meant for, I use it as an oil absorbing powder during the hot months. This is just a white translucent powder that goes on clear. There is nothing worse than sweating off 3 layers of make-up and I'm just not down for having to "up-keep" my face all day, so this is my lazy way of looking... presentable? (For lack of better word!) I use a concealer stick to cover any blemishes or scars I may have, use bronzer on my cheeks and forehead and then throw this over top, works like magic, I swear. 5 minute face? HA, screw that, more like 2!

Overalls

This has been years in the making, people... Overalls! You either love or hate them, I happen to be on the loving side of this debate. Overalls have been on my wishlist since my grade 10 year of high school. I walked past an American Apparel window display, saw a black pair of dungarees and knew I had to know what it feels like to be 7-years-old again... Fast forward a decade or so and here we are. I've lost countless eBay bids in the search for these bad boys, but it was clearly all meant to be. They are perfect and I love themmmmmm! *sky opens and a heavenly choir sings* Paired with gold and brown accessories and a neutral top so I don't look like a crazy farm girl, lost in the city...

Keepin' it Classic

TWO outfit posts in ONE week? You are not seeing things! I went for a bite to eat with some friends earlier and this is what I wore. As the weather gets warmer, I tend to stop wearing accessories (mainly because I cannot stand the smell of costume jewellery when it comes in contact with sweat, Yuck!) and start bringing out classic statement pieces for more visual interest. I wear this blazer a lot more than I'd like to admit, it is defiantly one of my go to pieces in my closet! Paired with my ASOS trouser shorts, lace top from Forever 21 and black flats for a classic, comfortable look.

Hey guys, miss me? I'm pretty sure you haven't but I'd like to think you did! Anyway... I've been super lazy and haven't been wearing many "blog worthy" outfits to say the least. (Keeping it classy in cut off shorts, flip-flops and stained t-shirts for the last few weeks!) I thought I'd post a casual outfit for a change. This lace neck H&M dress was perfect for the 26°C weather today! Flowy, comfortable, and such a cute colour! Something Old, Something New.

Now that my first year of design school is coming to a close, I've lined up my much anticipated DIY projects from years past to tackle over this summer. If you can believe it, this shirt used to be a God awful dress! (Photo at the end of this post.) I fell in love with the shade of orange immediately, but the dress was 2 sizes too small and, well... beyond hideous! I promised myself that I would make good use of it anyway; So a piece of scrap fabric, some wishful thinking and 2 hours of labour later, viola! Peplums have been appearing everywhere and they are just way too cute NOT to try! Colour blocked with my favourite teal bag and a simple black bandage skirt to balance out the bright colours.
