Research has shown that most men have shorter lives than women due to the type of lifestyles they lead – including late nights of boozing with their mates, being in a high-pressured job, undergoing plenty of stress as he wonders how is he going to pull his family through a crisis, and perhaps even engaging in crazy stunts and sports for that bit of adrenaline rush. Well, most men too would be involved with the use of power tools, and is tasked with mowing the lawn with NASCAR race attendance as his reward. Some of those activities mentioned do involve being exposed to high levels of noise at any one time which if left unchecked, could lead to permanent hearing loss many years down the road. With Christmas coming up in slightly more than a month, why not give dad the protection he needs with the NoiseBuster Active Noise-Canceling Hearing Protector?

This professional-grade, high-performance equipment will merge a passive earmuff with active noise-canceling electronics to deliver overall noise cancellation performance that is unmatched by any other hearing protector. Apart from its superior noise cancellation, the NoiseBuster is full well capable of delivering awesome audio, essentially making this a great 2-in-1 audio choice – to prevent you from running a higher risk of hearing loss, while enjoying your favorite tunes in greater detail as it blocks external noise. Not something we would wear when going jogging or cycling though, as those activities require you to hear what’s going on outside just in case you end up as roadkill and a statistic. The Noisebuster
allows one to listen to music or the ball game without overamplifying or distorting the signal in order to compensate for the noise. The NoiseBuster PA4000 is currently priced at $149 , and if you happen to fork out that kind of money for it, you will be pleased to know it will come with a hard carry case, an audio cable and an AA battery to get you started right out of the box, with all web purchases coming with a 10% discount.

Back in the days, having a firewall was a decent option if you wanted to secure your network against incoming attacks from the outside, but these days not just any firewall will do. Wiresoft, being a leading provider of affordable, high performance network security products for small and medium-sized businesses, has just unveiled Firegate, where it is touted to be the industry’s foremost “unbreakable” firewall delivering enterprise-level security plus disaster recovery without breaking the bank – perfect for such an economic climate. Just to get a better impression of how “steady” and reliable it is, the Firegate’s core technology platform has never been penetrated in either laboratory or market conditions to date. In order to underline its robustness and security, Wiresoft has issued a challenge, offering up to $24,000 in prize money to anyone who can hack Firegate within 24 hours. Dubbed the “Hack Us If You Can” challenge, it will be open to all from November 16 onwards, and you can check out the rules of the game here. Guess there will be plenty of coffee being passed around by a group of ethical hackers as they vie for 24 grand, no small sum even by today’s standards as that can get the winner a brand new ride or a super souped up gaming rig with more than enough cash to spare. Firegate is a unified threat management network security product, where a solitary platform will help protect companies against all network security threats. It offers firewall, individually configurable spamwall, unlimited VPN support, content filtering and anti-virus protection, where it has been included in a single price point without any hidden charges or add-ons. Any takers?

Sony Ericsson might not be at the top of their game when it comes to cellphone releases, catering to a much smaller percentage compared to its rivals, although their phones generally have a pretty good build quality and tend to concentrate between two lines – the Walkman and Cybershot series which cater for shutterbugs and audiophiles, respectively. Well, their latest announcement has nothing to do with either, where the XPERIA
X10 is said to roll out sometime in the first quarter of next year, being the first phone in a family of phones to deliver a consistent user experience where communication truly becomes entertainment. Thanks to the incorporation of a new UX platform which will evolve across the product portfolio, it will expand over time while introducing new features and capabilities. Built on top of the Open OS, the UX platform creates a unique Sony Ericsson user experience by being the first handset which “truly humanise the way people interact with their phones.” Some signature applications of the XPERIA X10 include Mediascape and Timescape, where the latter will manage all your communication with one person in one place, where your Facebook messages, Twitter account, photos, emails and texts can be seen in a glance for each contact when selected. As for the Mediascape, this allows you to check out music, photos and videos you want from your favorite friends and artists. You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to applications since with the XPERIA X10, users are able to download any application of their choice direct from a wide variety of stores including PlayNow and the Android Market. The XPERIA X10 will play nice with the following frequencies, making it a truly world phone – GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100 and UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100. No word on pricng, but we do know it will come in Sensuous Black and Luster White.

Nokia might be looking at its smartphone share in the US being eaten up like nobody’s business no thanks to its rivals from a variety of manufacturers who have come up with a much cleaner user interface and seamless ease-of-use. Still, that doesn’t mean this cellphone manufacturing giant is going to give up that easily elsewhere in the world. The Finnish company aims to strengthen its grip in the China market by announcing its first device for TD-SCDMA – China’s domestic 3G standard, simply known as the Nokia 6788. The Nokia 6788 is the result of close collaboration between Nokia and the world’s largest mobile phone operator, China Mobile. After all, in a country where there is more than a billion people will definitely offer an extremely lucrative potential market, no? What can one expect from the Nokia 6788? For starters, this clamshell handset will offer Chinese consumers with TD-SCDMA solutions that are perfectly catered to their needs, thanks to all-in-one capability that include speedy mobile Internet speeds and download times to minimize the waiting period thus enhancing your productivity, a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a 2.8″QVGA display and the Symbian S60 platform which has managed to serve Nokia so well in other developing nations. The Nokia 6788’s exterior was inspired by traditional Chinese furniture and architecture, incorporating Chinese design elements that comprise of traditional Chinese patterns on the back of the slide and the battery cover. No word on pricing, although it ought to hit the market sometime during the Christmas period this year.

Samsung isn’t just about fancy and large TVs in addition to cool solar-powered cellphones, as the company does have quite the repertoire of gizmos and devices to satisfy just about and gadget lust. This time round, the consumer electronics, telecommunications and information technology giant has recently announced that it has managed to roll out the world’s first single chip compatible with the newly approved North American mobile digital TV broadcasting standard successfully. In layman’s terms, this means the new chip will probably see a slew of new portable media players released in the US to feature the ability to handle all your portable TV cravings regardless of where you are. This is made possible by merging the radio frequency (RF) and digital chip components into one single 65 nanometer (nm)-scale chip. When compared against standard multiple-chip sets, the solitary chip offers makers of various mobile devices including cellphones, car-mounted televisions and portable media players an optimal solution that is more compact, uses less power, and is more affordable. The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) did start work on moving towards standardizing mobile digital TV broadcasting by utilizing the current digital TV broadcasting spectrum alongside its facilities since May a couple of years ago. A recently concluded membership vote has seen the ATSC Mobile DTV being adopted as an ATSC standard officially. You sure won’t come up short in terms of entertainment as more than 70 broadcast stations have already announced their support of this initiative and will broadcast on a trial basis across North America before the year is over. Phew boy!

BrickHouse Security has just unveiled its latest Amber Alert GPS (AAGPS) system that will offer unprecedented peace of mind to families, where the diminutive Amber Alert GPS will provide parents with the opportunity to make sure that their kids are safe and accounted for when they’re away from home in a new and easy way. This is made possible thanks to updated GPS technology, which ought to go some ways in making sure that horror stories of parents being separated from their children (intentionally or accidentally) will not happen – or at least, lower the risk by a whole lot more.

The AAGPS will work best when used with the company’s Brickhouse Child Locator product that was featured in Duracell ads most recently. Unlike the Locator that relies on GPS technology to make sure that parents are alerted when their child wanders beyond a set distance of up to 600 feet, the AAGPS device will offer the ability to remotely locate your very own children when they are away, where the nearest way to catch up with them would be to buy a flight ticket and jet set across the continent. All the parent needs to do is place the Amber Alert GPS System into their child’s personal items such as pockets and backpacks, or a more direct approach by attaching it to a wrist, ankle, or belt.

Whenever you call or text the AAGPS device, it will return a detailed map and address of the child’s exact location via any text- or web-enabled phone within seconds. Of course, you can also opt to view location updates on your computer if you so desire. You know what they say – there are no limits to the price of safety and one’s life. The Amber Alert GPS might be rather pricey at $379 a pop alongside a compulsory monthly subscription plan, but contrast that with losing a loved one instead to see just how valuable this could be in the event of an emergency?

Buy the Brickhouse GPS Child Locator HERE!

It’s certain that most of you have received a knock at the door from an uninvited guest, and you looked through the peephole to see who it is. What you usually see is some person with an overly-sized head. Now are you going to let that person in? At least with the Digital Door Viewer, you actually get to see what the person looks like, and from there as you know, you make your decision. It’s simply another way to replace that peephole with something a little more hi-tech. There are several different models and brand names with these, you just have to find the one that’s best for your home. With this you have a large display showing you who is on the other side of the door.

Likely with this no one will be able to use a reverse peephole viewer on your door either. Not that everyone has them, but if you’re more paranoid than the average person, it’s one way to make sure no one can view what’s on the inside of your house from the peephole. So you can use the door viewer and allow your paranoia to remain between you and your shrink. Installation is said to be extremely easy and apparently the design of the peephole and LCD panel would make it extremely difficult for this to be stolen. The LCD panel itself has a protective lens cover and there are no directly accessible fasteners, wires or connectors.

The best perk with these is that you get an expanded view, instead of the usual distorted short view. Unfortunately, it’s highly questionable if it’s worth it, given the $349 price tag (reg $399), but if you have a serious problem with unwanted visitors, or stalkers, this may be one security device that is well worth the coin.

Buy it here - Digital Door Viewer

If you are into arts and crafts, then you probably have at least one hot glue gun around the house. I never really thought about using a hot glue gun to make fake spiderwebs before, but it would appear that some company has re-packaged their hot glue guns for just such a purpose. Obviously, this type of marketing is designed for Halloween, and if you need realistic webbing for your spooky party on October 31st, the Electronic Webcaster Gun is for you. The package of twenty gluesticks can cover about 350 square feet, or one 12 x 15 foot room. The webs come in three types. You can choose Clear, which glows blue under black light. Neon Yellow, which glows yellow under black light, or simply choose Glow in the Dark. Now, I’m not certain whether you can shoot your webs like Spider-man, but why would you want to? Unless you want to swing through New York City. With a name like Electric Webcaster Gun, it ought to shoot like the webslinger. This is just one reason why I think the Electronic Webcaster Gun is not well named. The second reason is because it sounds like a product that can make you a professional podcaster. This Webcaster Gun with six sticks costs $50, and replacement sticks are in packs of twenty for $6. So if you are looking for that extra decor twist to your haunted party this year, this may be the last thing to cross of your to do list.

Epson has released its latest PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD projector that will further enhance Epson’s portfolio, adding yet another member to its award winning line of 3LCD home theater projectors. The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD is full well able to provide families as well as first time home theater enthusiasts with a a versatile, high-quality 720p high-definition solution that caters for a wide range of options, regardless of whether you’re going to use it to get your daily dose of movies or enjoy hours after hours of games on your PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. Alternatively, others might just prefer to use it for broadcast TV and sports, where a projected screen is able to accommodate many more people’s eyes comfortably compared to a 50″ LCD TV.

Meant to make home entertainment simple and enjoyable, the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD will ship with an array of consumer-friendly features and performance benefits that makes the big screen experience extremely enjoyable at home. You get 2,500 lumens of color and white light output that is more than enough for movie viewing or game playing under a variety of environments, even during the daytime without suffering from any quality loss. Apart from that, you will also be able to enjoy a quartet of pre-set color modes that have been optimized for video, HDMI connectivity and a USB 2.0 connection that makes it a snap to share photos and slideshows. Inside the PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD, you will find Epson’s three-chip 3LCD technology and an exclusive energy efficient E-TORL lamp, helping it deliver bright, movie theater-like images and video with amazing detail without the possibility of color break-up or “rainbow effect.”

One can expect the Epson Home Cinema 705HD to arrive in the markets sometime later this October via online A/V specialty retailers, select retailers nationwide and the Epson online store for approximately $749.99. Each purchase will come with a two-year limited warranty with toll-free access to PrivateLine, Epson’s priority technical support, as well as a free two-business day exchange with ExtraCare Home Service. Not too shabby, and it won’t be long before this becomes the device that you just can’t imagine living without.

When LCD TVs first hit the market, we were bowled over by their apparent slimness compared to what we see in our living rooms dominated by fat, chunky CRTs. Well, times have definitely changed (for the better) as CRTs have been phased out since then, and LCD TVs are the de facto standard when it comes to your living room viewing experience. LG ups the ante further with their latest release of a full HD LED LCD HDTV which is more or less as thin as it gets, bearing the image of a single sheet of glass. Making a splash at CEDIA 2009, the new SL90 series of HDTVs from LG will come in 42″ and 47″ sizes, where they both will feature LED lighting and other stunning display technologies.

LG employs a single-layer design and a narrow bezel in order to develop a visually stunning set, where the main target is to maximize the viewing experience while increasing the market value of your home by a notch as whoever drops by for a visit will definitely note the good taste you have in furnishing your pad with nothing but the very best. A special film lamination technology is used for better color tuning, gradation and reduction of glare, where it is all squeezed into a sleek, minimalist package. The flat surface is achieved by the lamination process, where it virtually does away with the visible line between the screen and the bezel whenever no power is supplied to the set.

Sporting a maximum depth of just 1.5″, LG’s SL90 series’ usage of the LED LCD screen will produce an extremely high dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 that results in ever truer blacks (this is where the philosophical question of whether truth is relative or not can be answered) and finer gradations between grays. Apart from that, the film lamination process adds anti-glare properties to the screen by reducing distracting reflections so that anyone who views it will always enjoy a cinema-quality experience. LG will release the 42″ and 47″ models later this Fall for $2,099 and $2,599, respectively. This really MAY be the TV that gives you everything you want and more.
