Germany - PhD Position in International Economics, Universität Hohenheim

The successful applicant will work within the project “The effect of international trade on job flows, wages, and unemployment: The role of search frictions and firm heterogeneity” .

This project is funded by the Thyssen Foundation. It is co-directed by Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr at Universität Hohenheim (Stuttgart) and by Prof. Julien Prat at IAE Barcelona. The candidate should hold a graduate degree (Master or German Diplom) in economics, preferably with a background in trade theory and/or labor economics. He/she should have good quantitative skills, some training in econometrics, as well as a good command of English. The successful candidate carries out doctoral research. She/he takes part in an international cooperation between IAE Barcelona and Universität Hohenheim. She/he also benefits from the doctoral program offered by Tübingen-Hohenheim Economics e.V., from a close integration into the International Economics Group at Universität Hohenheim, and from the support offered by the FZID Recearch Center.

The successful candidate is based in Stuttgart during academic terms. The monthly stipend is EUR 1500 net of taxes. Additional funds for travel and IT are available. A supplementary assignment as teaching assistant is possible. The contract runs for an initial period of two years, but is renewable.

EBS London International Scholarship - European Business School London

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to applicants who have an excellent academic record and who is a citizen or resident (for a minimum of three years) of either Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay or Venezuela and who are applying for admission onto the Full-time MBA or MBA in International Business in September 2010. An award may be withdrawn if a student fails to meet the academic standards set by the University.

Although applications for the scholarship should be made before 31 May 2010, the scholarship will only be awarded to an applicant who has firmly accepted their offer through payment of the deposit.

Applicants who hold full sponsorships or who are entitled to fee omission are not eligible for the scholarship.

If an applicant is successful in being awarded the scholarship, but subsequently declines their offer of admission on the MBA programme, the award of the scholarship will be withdrawn and awarded to another applicant.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit a 1,000 word essay, explaining why they feel they should be awarded the scholarship, and how the scholarship will benefit them. This essay should accompany their application for the MBA programme.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the benefits to the student. The decision will be made by a committee consisting of Directors and key staff from Admissions.

If you have already sent your application, you are welcome to apply separately. Please enclose your full name and contact details as stated in your programme application. Separate scholarship applications without these details will not be considered.

Northumbria International Scholarships 2009/10 and 2010/11 - Northumbria University

We are delighted to announce details of the range of scholarships available in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 academic years. In the current academic year more than 500 students from over 20 different countries have been awarded a Northumbria University International Scholarship.

Most courses at Northumbria University have an intake in September, but a number also have an intake in January or later in the year. Scholarships are available for both intakes.

In most cases the amount of scholarship given will be in the range GBP 500-1000. If you are awarded a scholarship, your tuition fees in your first academic year of study will be reduced by the relevant amount. Scholarships cannot be extended for subsequent years of study.

Eligibility and Selection

You will be eligible for consideration if you have overseas (non-EU) fees status, and don't currently reside within the UK (if you are unsure please click here to find out your status - site will open in a new window). Applicants for all levels of full-time study at Northumbria’s Newcastle campuses will be considered (NB this does not apply to English Pre-Sessional Programmes).

Selection is based primarily on outstanding academic achievement, although, other factors may be taken into account, such as your level of English proficiency and any professional or non-academic achievements. Financial need cannot and will not be taken into consideration. Scholarships are not awarded automatically.

When the University receives your application form for one of our programmes, you will automatically be assessed for scholarship eligibility. There is no separate scholarship application to complete so it is important that you submit all relevant information with your initial application. You will usually be notified of any award at the same time that you are offered a place at the University.

Postgraduate Scholarships Available for 2010 Entrants

The University of Edinburgh will be offering 30 International Master's Scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year.

10 of these Scholarships ("Homecoming Scotland" Scholarships) have a value of £5,000 while 20 fall under the Global Master's Scholarships Scheme and have a value of £3,000 each.

The deadline for receipt of applications for both Scholarships is the 1st April 2010 and applicants shoud complete an online application in order to be considered for these awards.

For courses starting in September 2010 (or between September 2010 and June 2011 for MPhil/PhD research degrees), De Montfort University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Philip Tasker, is delighted to offer £500 scholarships to overseas students.

The £500 scholarships will be paid towards the full tuition fees of overseas-status students from any country in the world who wish to study the following types of courses at De Montfort University, Leicester:

- Full-time undergraduate degrees (BA/BSc/LLB) in any subject
- Full-time Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters courses (PGDip/MA/MSc/MBA/LLM) in any subject
- Full-time MPhil/PhD research degrees in any subject

The £500 scholarship will be deducted from the full tuition fee at the beginning of the first (or only) year of study.

Students progressing to DMU through one of our established progression schemes or collaborative partnerships may also be eligible for these scholarships.

The £500 scholarships will be deducted from the full tuition fee of successful applicants when you arrive to enrol at DMU.

The rules
• Both self-funding and sponsored students are eligible to apply.
• No cash alternatives will be offered and the scholarship cannot be transferred to any other course at DMU or to any other nominated recipient.
• Valid only for September 2010 entry (or between September 2010 and June 2011 for research applicants) – scholarships cannot be deferred with an application until September 2011 or later
• For overseas students who are also entitled to the £500 discount for early payment of their fees in full at enrolment, a total of £1000 will be deducted from the full tuition fee at enrolment.
• For applicants who also qualify for the £500 Alumni Scholarship, a further £500 will be deducted from the tuition fee at enrolment.
• If an applicant is allocated a scholarship but then withdraws their application or does not enrol onto the course for any reason, the scholarship is forfeited.
• The University reserves the right to withdraw scholarships, or not allocate scholarships, at any point before they are allocated.

Open to University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students enrolled as degree-seeking undergraduates. Comments: Postgraduate Awards are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to International candidates in the first year of their thesis research for a Master's degree.

Tenure of a Postgraduate Award by a Master's degree student is for one year, or until the thesis is submitted, (whichever period is the shorter.) Students must be in the first year of their thesis research to be eligible for an Award. A shorter period of tenure shall be awarded in cases where four months or more of registration as a candidate for the degree have already been completed at the time of the award. Types of scholarships

a) Scholarships for foreign university students (enrolled at least in the 6^th semester) to take part in Master study over a period of 1 to 2 semesters (from 5 to 10 months) at Slovak universities.

b) Scholarships for foreign PhD students to take a part of PhD study over a period of 1 to 12 months at Slovak universities or research institutes.

c) Scholarships for foreign university teachers and researchers over a period of 1 to 12 months to carry out teaching or research at Slovak universities, research institutes or nongovernmental organisations on the basis of an invitation.

Scholarship designation

The scholarship is designated to cover living costs (accommodation, boarding, etc.) of a study, research and teaching stay of foreign applicants at Slovak universities and research institutions. Copenhagen International School (CIS) offers a number of scholarships and exhibitions at the school each year for students, both international and Danish, who are joining the school to undertake and complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are academically exceptional, well-rounded students.
Exhibitions will be awarded to applicants who are academically excellent, well-rounded students.
Students who have been awarded scholarships or exhibitions will be at an advantage when applying to universities and colleges.
For scholarship applicants who require financial assistance in order to enter CIS for grades 11 to 12, the school is offering a maximum of 10 financial awards, with financial assistance to cover up to 85% of the tuition fees. Parents will be asked for documentation to support the application for financial assistance.
A further three three-year financial scholarships are available to students entering grade 10 / Pre-IB. The financial assistance may cover up to 85% of the tuition fees. Parents will be asked for documentation to support the application for financial assistance.
Honours scholarships and exhibitions are available to students who do not require financial assistance, but fulfil the other criteria. These do not offer any financial benefit.

The Graduate Studies in International Affairs program offers up to four Hedley Bull Scholarships each year for full-time study in the Master of Arts (International Relations) commencing in semester one. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Master of Arts (International Relations).

When applying for the MA (International Relations), eligible applicants for the Hedley Bull Scholarship should include a covering letter indicating their interest in being considered for the scholarship and making the case for being granted one. The covering letter together with the application for the MA (International Relations) (including transcripts and three academic references) will be considered as the full application for the scholarship. There is no need to provide a separate application. The scholarship provides a full-fee waiver for three full-time sessions (semesters). This amounts to 48 units of graduate coursework and a 24-unit thesis session.

PhD Studentships in Statistics - University of Bristol

Applications are invited for a number of PhD studentships in the Statistics Group, Department of Mathematics, University of Bristol, UK. The Statistics Group has an international reputation for excellence in research and in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise it was awarded ratings of 5*A.

The studentships will be restricted to students of a high quality - the normal entry requirement is the equivalent of a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours at undergraduate level. Worldwide qualified students are encouraged to apply.

The Statistics Group offers a number of studentships up to a maximum of 3.5 year studentships for UK and EU PhD students who have been residents in the UK for 3 years prior to application, and fees-only funding for other EU students. The studentships include a tax-free stipend of £12,600 per year.

For overseas students, the university has several sources of funding available including the Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) and Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award (DHPA). The scholarships cover the overseas tuition fee plus a maintenance stipend. The funding application for the academic year 2008 is closed, but it will be open soon for the academic year 2009.

LMANN TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP FUND (LUTSF) 2008/2009 AWARDS

LUTSF has pleasure in announcing 21 travel scholarships for 2008/09. The funded projects highlight the policy of the Fund to support a diverse range of journeys and to assist individuals at different stages in their careers to travel to enrich their practice and pursue a personal passion.

Lisa Ullmann, in whose memory the Fund was established in 1986, was an inspiration to those who knew her or who came into contact with her work. A distinguished teacher, she travelled worldwide to teach others. It is in memory of her vivacity, passion and energy that the committee continues her work by selecting movement and dance practitioners to further or celebrate their own practice by making a journey. Since giving its first awards in 1987 LUTSF has provided 375 travel scholarships to help people to pursue an extraordinarily wide range of projects. Over the years LUTSF awards have totalled about £168,000.

This year one scholarship has been awarded in memory of Vivien Gear, LUTSF secretary who died suddenly in 2007. The scholarship winner was recommended by the British Ballet Organisation with whom Vivien also worked.

APAI Advanced Tool Wear Analysis

The research project is part of an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project, investigating wear on sheet metal forming tools. The project involves industry partners from within the automotive and tooling industries. The appointee will investigate the localised loading conditions and wear response at the surface of typical sheet metal forming dies. State-of-the-art Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques and experimental methods will be used to develop a clearer understanding of the wear behaviour; with much focus on the micro-scale mechanisms that occur. The outcomes of the project will have particular relevance to the product development and stamping engineering processes used in the automotive industry.
