MLK Learning Fair - Saturday, February 25, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Austinites will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the unveiling of a memorial mosaic on Southwest Key’s Walk of Heroes this Saturday. The dedication is part of a free community brunch and learning fair celebrating Black History Month at El Centro de Familia in East Austin. The event will feature interactive art and learning stations where visitors will listen to speeches and watch highlights from various parts of Dr. King’s life while constructing origami Peace Cranes or contributing to a civil rights art installation. Acclaimed poet-performer Zell Miller III, Sadé M. Jones of Ballet East, and the Huston-Tillotson University Concert Choir will perform. There are no volunteers or guides to take students around to the activities, so parents, counselors, or teachers are expected to remain with students during the event. Information areas are available parents and counselors may collect additional information and resources about engineering for their students. Austin Music Award winners Los Texas Wranglers

The Mexican American Experience invites families to join them for two evenings of FREE music at the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) on March 16 and 17, 2012. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the shows start at 6 p.m.

On Friday the 16th, enjoy music from Braulio y Fuzzion, Los Texas Wranglers, Grupo Vida, and Los Tres Amigos featuring: Ruben Ramos, Little Joe, Roberto Pulido and the Mexican Revolution. Jugglefest Public Show ~ $5

Today through Sunday, February 24 - 26, 2012, the Texas Juggling Society (did you know there was a society of jugglers?) celebrates its 19th year of Jugglefest, a three-day event full of workshops, games, demonstrations, and shows featuring juggling, unicycling, and related circus arts. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come down and learn some tips and tricks or just watch all of the fun. Jugglefest will be jam packed with over 20 hours of workshops, games, door prizes, trick trading, vendors, a silent auction, and more. Admission is $15 for an all-access three-day wristband, but there are two opportunities to enjoy the festival for less.

The Renegade Show, to be held at Ruta Maya Coffeehouse tonight, is free (but not recommended for children). The Public Show on Saturday night will be family friendly, with performers from Austin and all over the world as they demonstrate their skills in the circus arts. This show, where they plan to pull out all the stops, will be held in Davis Auditorium at Texas School for the Deaf. The Public Show will be $5 for ages 5 and up. Girls who like to tinker or are always trying to figure out how things work will love this event held at the University of Texas on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, or Girl Day, is an international event celebrated each year during Engineers Week. Presented by the Women in Engineering Program, Girl Day gives girls in 1st through 8th grades a chance to take part in hands on engineering activities, meet students, professors, and engineers from the industry, and just see what it's like to be an engineer. The event runs from 2 - 5 p.m.

Students will be encouraged to build and explore at their own pace -- there will be no volunteers or guides during the activities. The event is FREE, but reservations are required. Early registration (online) ends today, February 23, 2012, but if you miss it, on-site registration will be available on Saturday.

Free Tickets to America's Got Talent

America's Got Talent is coming to Austin on the final weekend of Spring Break (and SXSW) and you can be in the studio audience! The live tapings will take place at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 17, 2012 and Sunday, March 18, 2012, at noon and 5 p.m. both days. Videotaping will take between four and five hours for each show.

If you'd like to go, free tickets are available to the public, but you must be at least 14 years old to attend (possibly because Howard Stern is the new judge?). Audience members younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Also worth mentioning is the dress code. No flip flops or sandals, friends! "Hip, upscale attire is mandatory," so be sure to read the fine print on your ticket, regarding what you can and cannot wear. You don't want to be denied entrance just because you've got "writing" on your clothing.

Amy Cook has earned critical acclaim since joining the musical scene in Austin. She's collaborated with Alejandro Escovedo, Ben Kweller, Heartless Bastards, Patty Griffin, and more. The taping takes place in UT's legendary Cactus Cafe, which has hosted the likes of Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin, Alison Krauss, Townes Van Zandt, and the Dixie Chicks, among many, many others.

FREE SXSW Shows at Auditorium Shores

You don't have to have a badge for the SWSX Music Festival to be able to enjoy some great music. Each year the festival offers a FREE show at Auditorium Shores. This year Austinites get to enjoy three beautiful March nights of FREE music with downtown Austin as the backdrop.

The SXSW Auditorium Shores Stage will showcase free shows on March 15 - 17, 2012 (Thursday through Saturday). Artists include Little Hurricane (5:45 p.m.), M. Ward (6:45 p.m.), and The Shins (8 p.m.) on Thursday, and Counting Crows (8 p.m.) and Diamond Rugs (7 p.m.) on Friday. Saturday's full lineup has yet to be posted online, but SXSW announced that the headliner will be The Cult, who will take the stage at 8 p.m. The area will also feature a variety of food and beverages and arts and craft vendors along with the free music.

There will be a shuttle service between the Austin Convention Center at 2nd and Trinity running each night from 4 - 11 p.m. for SXSW badge holders. Non badge holders can catch the Capital Metro's Park & Ride service for $1 each way.

It All Starts in Austin Parks ~ Free Concerts

The City of Austin's Music Division and Parks Department bring you Music in the Parks, a year-long concert series that features free, live and diverse concerts set in various parks throughout Austin. Expanding on the success of Live from the Plaza, this is an incredible opportunity for Austin musicians to gain exposure to new audiences and for community bonds to be strengthened. The concerts are an effort to promote the educational, social/environmental, cultural, economic and health benefits of leisure and recreation to individuals, families, neighborhoods and communities.

Performances are free and appropriate for the whole family. All are welcome and invited to attend.

Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 1 - 5 p.m. - Aftermath with Edison Chair & Hannah Hagar at Northwest Rec Center (2913 Northland Drive). Spend an afternoon at the Northwest Rec Center's Kite Festival and listen to some live music.

Saturday, March 3, 2012, from 1 - 5 p.m. - The Eggmen with Big Don & School of Rock at Dick Nichols Park (8011 Beckett Road). Join in a Mini Fest featuring music, food, and artists.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Dickie Lee Erwin with Mandy Mercier in Republic Square Park (422 Guadalupe Street).

Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 1 - 5 p.m. - The Derailers with Ruby Jane & Peewee Moore at Given Rec Center.

Join BookPeople and other young readers and artists in the 2012 BookKids Bookmark Contest. Kids are invited to create a colorful bookmark inspired by their favorite book. Entries will be accepted through March 9, 2012 and should measure 7.5 x 2.25 inches (use the template on the entry form).

Four winners will be selected, one from each age group:

Kindergarten
Grades 1 & 2
Grades 3 & 4
Grades 5 & 6

The winner from each age group will be professionally printed and distributed at the counters of Book People. Each winner will also win a $25 gift certificate to BookPeople and a pizza party for their whole class sponsored by Austin's Pizza!

LEGO Robotics Fun Days During Spring Break

Children and their parents are invited to visit area libraries during Spring Break, to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of LEGO building and discovery! Learning Fun 101 will host LEGO Robotics Fun Days for students in grades K – 12.

LEGO activities will include:

Building a giant LEGO mini figure
LEGO Tops and Battle Bots Arena
Digging in a swimming pool full of LEGO pieces for “Free Building”
Playing a fun LEGO game
