In the beginning of time, the first God of the universe, Pan Gu, lived an immortal life. But with no subjects to lord over, Pan Gu grew tired of his solitary existence and decided to decompose his body into five elements-fire, metal, wood, earth, and water. With his divine power, Pan Gu forged these elements into air, land, mountains, rivers, seas, and plant life—and laid the foundation for a new world. It was then that Pan Gu made his first attempt to fill this new world with life. From his shadow he formed the first sentient beings. These unnamed creatures were uncivilized, and before long, they began turning on one another and corrupting the world around them. Pan Gu saw that what he had created had become an Imperfect World, and moved quickly to rectify his mistake. He built a floating city known as Heaven’s Tear, and placed within the city the few creatures that had yet to be corrupted. Then, with the power of water and wind, Pan Gu created a massive flood, which swept through the land and destroyed all life in its path.

The world now cleansed, Pan Gu set about creating a new world, one filled with beings who were capable of Spiritual Cultivation. He created three races that possessed the traits he most treasured in himself. The Human race was born of Pan Gu’s spirit, and demonstrated morality, honor, and an unlimited imagination. The race of the Untamed, born of Pan Gu’s body, embodied freedom and peace, and possessed a unique connection with the natural order of the world. And the third race, the Winged Elves, were born of Pan Gu’s own blood, and exemplified beauty, grace, and purity. Between the three races, the Perfect World was created.

The chief quality that Pan Gu gave all three races was free will. He vowed never again to eradicate an entire species, so all conflicts between the races were to be resolved amongst themselves. One such conflict arose between the Humans and Winged Elves when the two races discovered the city of Heaven’s Tear. A war erupted as they fought for control of the great city, bringing out the worst in both races. The Untamed remained neutral, as they were content with living in harmony with the natural world. As the war intensified, and neither side relented, a new threat emerged.

The race that was thought to have been eradicated in the great flood returned in full force. These creatures were not quite living, but not quite dead, and thus came to be known as wraiths. The wraiths appeared to possess a singular objective: to destroy the other races and corrupt the beautiful world around them. Rumors swirled that the wraiths were capable of possessing other living things. Not much is known about the true nature of this evil, but one thing is clear. The three races—Human, Untamed, and Winged Elf—must set aside their differences and unite to preserve their way of life, halt the spread of corruption, and above all, protect the Perfect World.

Yo Frankie! 3D Open Source Game

After Orange and Peach, Blender Institute continues with a new open project: Apricot. The team will work on a cross platform game (at least Linux, Windows, OS X), using Blender for modeling and animation, Crystal Space as 3D engine and delivery platform, and Python for some magic scripting to glue things together. It is not only the purpose to make a compelling 3D game experience, but especially to improve and validate the open source 3D game creation pipeline, with industry-standard conditions. At this moment we only know that the game characters are funny and furry, and the game environment is outdoors in a field and forest. Once the team is together - February 2008 - they will define the game concept and game design.

Alien Soldier, Free Classic Arcade Game

Alien Soldier is a side-scrolling run and gun video game developed by Treasure Co. Ltd for the Sega Mega Drive. The game was released in Japan and Europe, but can be rather expensive due to its rarity in either region. The game was playable in America on the Sega Channel cable service and has been reissued for PlayStation 2 as part of the Sega Ages Treasure Box disc. The Sega Ages version (Also with Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy in a 3-In-1 compilation disc) removes the sprite display limit, which makes the game run in a smooth frame rate without any slowdowns in big boss fights with explosions. Also, the player can select either the sprite-based pixelated graphics of the original game, or a new non-pixelled mode, which gives them a hand-drawn look re-created by Treasure. The game was re-released again on the Wii’s Virtual Console download service in Japan on October 9, 2007, in Europe on November 2, 2007, and in North America on November 5, 2007.

Main characters

Epsilon-Eagle - The protagonist and playable character. Epsilon-Eagle is a member of a genetically engineered race capable of parasitic co-existence with machinery and animals, including humans. Epsilon was the leader of the criminal organization “Scarlet” before he was attacked by a special forces group. He hid inside the body of a young boy in a research facility for children with paranormal powers. When Xi-Tiger found him there he held a young girl hostage in order to force Epsilon to reveal himself. The young boy went into a rage and morphed into a hybrid with Epsilon-Eagle. After this, Epsilon-Eagle’s evil side was in conflict with the good in the boy and he turned on his old terrorist organization (in particular Xi-Tiger).

Xi-Tiger - Xi-Tiger was a senior member of Scarlet, and took command of the organization after Epsilon-Eagle had been ousted, but quickly became unpopular as a leader. Xi later attacked the research facility, and sensed Epsilon there. Taking a young girl hostage, Xi threatened to kill the girl if Epsilon did not reveal himself. Xi-Tiger killed the girl and fled after Epsilon transformed.

Epsilon1 - Inferred to be Epsilon’s evil twin, although they do not resemble each other except that both have bird features. Appears only once, as a giant mechanical eagle with laser cannon wings, despite apparently being shown as a grayscale version of Epsilon-Eagle on the game cover. It is suggested in the game’s intro that when Epsilon’s good and evil sides of his spirit were struggling, the evil side split away to find a new body to inhabit, which supposedly ended up being the afforementioned mechanical eagle.

Seven Force Kaede- Mysterious human Scarlet host encountered on level 20. Actually she is said to be the girl that was killed by Xi-Tiger. Seven Force has several forms, including her human form. Seven Force is very similar to her counterpart from Gunstar Heroes, mainly because the boss changes it’s form using the same pieces. The background music for her boss fight is the exact same background music as in Gunstar Heroes‘ Seven Force, and the boss directly before her also appears in Gunstar Heroes. Despite her name, Seven Force only has 6 forms: Her human form, as well as Valkyrie, Medusa, Sylpheed, Artemis and Sirene Force.

Z-Leo - The final boss. Z-Leo is a massive, well-armed, anthropomorphic cyborg lion. He has a cannon for a left arm, a mechanical claw for the right, and twin laser cannons on his back. Z-Leo also sports his own distinctive “Z” logo on the right side of his chest armor.

Adventure Game Studio allows you to create your own point-and-click adventure games, similar to the early 90’s Sierra and Lucasarts adventures. It consists of an easy-to-use editor to create your games, and a run-time engine to play them.

The game interface is fully customizable, with classic Sierra and Verb Coin templates provided by default. AGS manages most of the game so that you don’t have to - it does all the donkey work like load/save game functions, pathfinding and scrolling rooms so that you can concentrate on the parts of your game that make it unique.

Set up your rooms, characters and sprites visually in the editor, then add some script to handle game events and you’re done! You can even create a standalone EXE file containing your entire game, which you can then distribute to your adoring fans worldwide.

So, how much does it cost? Nothing. That’s right, AGS is free, and you can even create commercial games with it (subject to license terms).

Freeciv is much more than a game: In Freeciv the game players can decide what the rules will be! This means that unlike nearly every other computer game, Freeciv can be a different game each time you play. This opportunity comes with some cost.
