iPod Touch 3.1.2: iTunes update

Today, Appe has released the iPod Touch 3.1.2 sofware along with the iPhone 3.1.2 update. This new update introduces a lot of bug fixes.

iPod Touch 3.1.2 update features:

Fixes issues that caused the iPod Touch not to wake up from sleep
Fixes bugs that cause Safari or QuickTime to crash while streaming

If you are an iPod Touch user, you can update to iPod Touh 3.1.2 through iTunes. Just note that you will be left without a jailbreak for now.

Crop Circles appear on Google

Today while browsing Google I noticed the above logo. It links to Crop Circles in the Google search engine results. QuickPWN.com explains it on their page.

Google is doing this to celebrate someone famous. They want us to find out who this person is so they are giving us clues through their different logos. The first logo of a UFO was revealed a while ago, this is a second set of the logos. There will be a third logo too and then Google will reveal to us what the big deal was. Until then we'll just need to keep guessing! What do you think it is?

Yes, the Apple Store is down right now. While I'd like to be optimistic and think that they're adding the new iPod Touch third generation or the rumored Apple Tablet, the truth is that they are not. I'm sure they will announce this on the September 8 or September 9 event. If there is anything new like iTunes 9.0 or anything, I'll keep you all posted!

iPod Touch 3rd Generation with Camera

The iPod Touch 3rd generation is rumored to launch in September, but it appears that someone has gotten their hands on one.

The image on the left looks like an iPod Touch with a camera. There have been rumors of Apple including a camera in their iPod Touch third generation models. The picture on the left was posted on the Covino and Rich blog and caught a lot of peoples' attentions including the Mac Rumor blog, Engadget, Digg, and others.

While we can not confirm this is real we can still wait and find out on September. September is not far away and there have been rumors that Apple will be launching the iPod Touch 3rd Generation in September.

Today Apple released iPhone 3.0.1 firmware update to iPhone users. This iPhone 3.0.1 update patches a critical iPhone SMS flaw that could do some serious damage to iPhone users. If you are an iPhone user or you know anyone who has an iPhone, don't forget to update! This is a very important update. An iPod Touch 3.0.1 update is not out because iPod Touch's were not vulnerable to the SMS exploit.

iPod Touch virus?

Today, Charlie Miller will release details of an iPhone virus he and his partner Collin Mulliner discovered. Thankfully this is no iPod Touch virus, so iPod Touch uses are safe. If you're an iPhone user you may want to continue reading this post.

Charlie Miller and his partner discovered the iPhone virus 6 weeks ago. It works through SMS, so technically it's an iPhone SMS Virus. It spreads through SMS messages and doesn't require any files to be downloaded. The attacker only needs to know the victim's phone number, and they can just send an SMS message that contains the virus. Once the SMS is sent the attacker can take over the iPhone instantly! The attacker can steal important data, or even spread the virus to other contacts. This is why iPhone users need to be very careful. This exploit will be released today, and a lot of iPhone users need to be aware of it.

Apple will most likely release a patch in the iPhone 3.1 update. The only thing we can do for now is turn off our iPhones to avoid this exploit.

iTunes Trojan horse Small.BOG virus

I just downloaded iTunes 8.2.1 on my Windows 7 PC. I scanned my PC with AVG and AVG detected a Trojan horse Small.BOG virus. Of course, Apple is smart enough not to distribute files with viruses on their servers, and AVG has given me false alerts in the past. Has anyone else here experienced this error? Post it here in the comments. Please post the operating system you're using as well.

Don't be scared to use iTunes 8.2.1. I've double-checked with another anti-virus program and it appears to be safe. If it had a virus Apple wouldn't be distributing it on their site. To be safe, make sure you only download iTunes from Apple.com and no other site.

Update your definition file for AVG (they recently released one)

iPod Touch 3.1 beta 2

Apple has just released the iPod Touch 3.1, and iPhone 3.1 beta 2 software update to iPhone developers. The build number is 7c106c. If you have a developer account you can download it from the Apple Developer Center.

If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G/3GS you should stay far away from this update. It will permanently block the exploit that ultrasn0w and purplesn0w software uses.

Are you an iPhone 3GS user? Are you using ultrasn0w? Good news. Geohot, the world's first person to ever unlock the iPhone, has released a new unlocking software called purplesn0w.

purplesn0w is still in beta right now, but Geohot claims that it's the best unlock out there. Although the Dev Team already released the ultrasn0w unlock that works with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, Geohot decided to make his own unlock and release the source code as well. Unfortunately it only works for iPhone 3GS users, so if you're not an iPhone 3GS user then you must stick with ultrasn0w.

So why would an iPhone 3G user need to use purplesn0w instead of ultrasn0w? Many people were reporting wifi, and battery issues with ultrasn0w and Geohot claims to have fixed this issues with his release.

Downloading and installing purplesn0w on the iPhone 3GS is pretty simple. Here is how to do it:

*Note: This will not work on hactivated iPhone 3GS's yet, Geohot plans on adding support for hactivated iPhones tomorrow. T-mobile users must disable 3G.

Launch the Cydia App
Go to Manage -> Sources
Tap Edit on the top right
Tap Add at the top left
Enter http://apt.geohot.com as the Cydia/APT URL
Tap the Add Source button
Once the source has been added, find and install the apt.geohot.com package
Install the apt.geohot.com package
Reboot your iPhone 3GS

I recommend waiting for the QuickPwn jailbreak to be released. iPhone 3G users right now are searching for the iPhone 3G 3.0 IPSW download. Thankfully they can download iPhone 3G 3.0 IPSW from here. I'll put the iPod Touch links on this blog too once they're up.

The big day is here, it's finally Friday! Today iPhone Dev Team plans to release the ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3G 3.0 users. With ultrasn0w unlock software, iPhone 3G users can unlock their iPhone 3G on firmware 3.0. The Dev Team has worked really hard on bringing this to us and they plan on releasing it today, along with the jailbreak for firmware 3.0. QuickPwn will do a unlock iPhone 3G 3.0 guide once ultrasn0w is released. I think I'll be sticking with AT&T for now instead of unlocking my iPhone 3G. Will you use ultrasn0w once it's out? iPhone OS 3.0 software update was just released yesterday. It requires a new jailbreak for iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G, and iPod Touch 2G owners. iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable: iPhone OS 3.0 Problem

Today is the day, Apple has finally released the iPhone OS 3.0 software out to us! I was able to successfully download it to my iPod Touch but unfortunately had problems with the iPhone. I kept getting the iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable error. I know a lot of other people are getting this error too because I saw a lot of tweets about it. I'll be upgrading my AT&T iPhone later, but my iPod Touch is ready. iPhone OS 3.0 is really fast, I love the spotlight search and copy and paste feature. You are going to like this update! The iPhone 3.0 jailbreak will be out from QuickPwn soon, there is no date announced yet. Feel free to check back here later to see once it's up. iPhone 3.0 Release Time

When will iPhone 3.0 be released? That is the question a lot of iPhone users are thinking about right now. If you like to jailbreak your iPhone, you must also be wondering about the jailbreaking and unlocking details as well. Don't worry, I'll explain it all in this post.

iPhone OS 3.0 Release Date and Features

First things first! On June 17, 2009 Apple will be releasing the iPhone OS 3.0 update through iTunes. This is happening just in time to compete with the Palm Pre webOS. iPhone OS 3.0 includes a lot of important updates including spotlight search, cut/copy/paste within apps, tethering, in-app purchases, landscape mode for native apps, and a whole lot more. One feature which I was really hoping for was multi-tasking, but Apple did not add this. I do think Apple may add it in the future, they want to implement it properly just like they did with copy and paste. It's definitely worth the upgrade! Unfortunately for us iPod Touch owners, the upgrade will cost $9.95 while all iPhone owners will be able to upgrade to iPhone 3.0 for free. Even with this fee, I'd say it's worth it.

iPhone OS 3.0 and Jailbreaking

I know a lot of you here like to jailbreak your iPod Touches. My Jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0 will be updated tomorrow with details and download for the new iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak software. iPhone Dev Team has been working hard on the jailbreak and they plan on releasing their iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak tomorrow right after the iPhone OS 3.0 launch. It will work with both first generation and second generation iPod Touches, and it'll work with all generations of the iPhone as well except for iPhone 3G S. I think the iPhone Dev Team may have already found out a jailbreak/unlock for the new iPhone 3G S but they don't want to share it until they've tested it on an actual 3.0, I'll be sure to post an update here once they do though.

How to update to iPhone OS 3.0

Before I end this post I'd like to tell you how you can update to iPhone 3.0. Updating is really simple, all you need to do is plug in your iPod Touch or iPhone and click the Check for Updates button. Remember, you need iTunes 8.2 in order to update to iPhone OS 3.0. iTunes will prompt you to update to iTunes 8.2 if you haven't already. I suggest doing it right now so you can quickly update tomorrow.
