Apple has just released the iPod Touch 3.1, and iPhone 3.1 beta 2 software update to iPhone developers. The build number is 7c106c. If you have a developer account you can download it from the Apple Developer Center.

If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G/3GS you should stay far away from this update. It will permanently block the exploit that ultrasn0w and purplesn0w software uses.

Are you an iPhone 3GS user? Are you using ultrasn0w? Good news. Geohot, the world's first person to ever unlock the iPhone, has released a new unlocking software called purplesn0w.

purplesn0w is still in beta right now, but Geohot claims that it's the best unlock out there. Although the Dev Team already released the ultrasn0w unlock that works with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, Geohot decided to make his own unlock and release the source code as well. Unfortunately it only works for iPhone 3GS users, so if you're not an iPhone 3GS user then you must stick with ultrasn0w.

So why would an iPhone 3G user need to use purplesn0w instead of ultrasn0w? Many people were reporting wifi, and battery issues with ultrasn0w and Geohot claims to have fixed this issues with his release.

Downloading and installing purplesn0w on the iPhone 3GS is pretty simple. Here is how to do it:

*Note: This will not work on hactivated iPhone 3GS's yet, Geohot plans on adding support for hactivated iPhones tomorrow. T-mobile users must disable 3G.

Launch the Cydia App
Go to Manage -> Sources
Tap Edit on the top right
Tap Add at the top left
Enter http://apt.geohot.com as the Cydia/APT URL
Tap the Add Source button
Once the source has been added, find and install the apt.geohot.com package
Install the apt.geohot.com package
Reboot your iPhone 3GS

I recommend waiting for the QuickPwn jailbreak to be released. iPhone 3G users right now are searching for the iPhone 3G 3.0 IPSW download. Thankfully they can download iPhone 3G 3.0 IPSW from here. The big day is here, it's finally Friday! Today iPhone Dev Team plans to release the ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3G 3.0 users. With ultrasn0w unlock software, iPhone 3G users can unlock their iPhone 3G on firmware 3.0. The Dev Team has worked really hard on bringing this to us and they plan on releasing it today, along with the jailbreak for firmware 3.0. QuickPwn will do a unlock iPhone 3G 3.0 guide once ultrasn0w is released. I think I'll be sticking with AT&T for now instead of unlocking my iPhone 3G. Will you use ultrasn0w once it's out? Please post your experience here. It'd be interesting to see how useful it is to people.

iPhone OS 3.0 software update was just released yesterday. It requires a new jailbreak for iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G, and iPod Touch 2G owners. I know many of you here are looking for the QuickPwn 3.0 download. Unfortunately, it's not up yet but Dev Team is working hard at making it and putting up the downloads for you. I'll be adding the links to the Jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0 page once the download is up.

Today is the day, Apple has finally released the iPhone OS 3.0 software out to us! I was able to successfully download it to my iPod Touch but unfortunately had problems with the iPhone. I kept getting the iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable error. I know a lot of other people are getting this error too because I saw a lot of tweets about it. I'll be upgrading my AT&T iPhone later, but my iPod Touch is ready. iPhone OS 3.0 is really fast, I love the spotlight search and copy and paste feature. You are going to like this update! The iPhone 3.0 jailbreak will be out from QuickPwn soon, there is no date announced yet. Feel free to check back here later to see once it's up. iPhone 3.0 Release Time

When will iPhone 3.0 be released? That is the question a lot of iPhone users are thinking about right now. If you like to jailbreak your iPhone, you must also be wondering about the jailbreaking and unlocking details as well. Don't worry, I'll explain it all in this post.

iPhone OS 3.0 Release Date and Features

First things first! On June 17, 2009 Apple will be releasing the iPhone OS 3.0 update through iTunes. This is happening just in time to compete with the Palm Pre webOS. iPhone OS 3.0 includes a lot of important updates including spotlight search, cut/copy/paste within apps, tethering, in-app purchases, landscape mode for native apps, and a whole lot more. One feature which I was really hoping for was multi-tasking, but Apple did not add this. I do think Apple may add it in the future, they want to implement it properly just like they did with copy and paste. It's definitely worth the upgrade! Unfortunately for us iPod Touch owners, the upgrade will cost $9.95 while all iPhone owners will be able to upgrade to iPhone 3.0 for free. Even with this fee, I'd say it's worth it.

iPhone OS 3.0 and Jailbreaking

I know a lot of you here like to jailbreak your iPod Touches. My Jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0 will be updated tomorrow with details and download for the new iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak software. iPhone Dev Team has been working hard on the jailbreak and they plan on releasing their iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak tomorrow right after the iPhone OS 3.0 launch. It will work with both first generation and second generation iPod Touches, and it'll work with all generations of the iPhone as well except for iPhone 3G S. I think the iPhone Dev Team may have already found out a jailbreak/unlock for the new iPhone 3G S but they don't want to share it until they've tested it on an actual 3.0, I'll be sure to post an update here once they do though.

How to update to iPhone OS 3.0

Before I end this post I'd like to tell you how you can update to iPhone 3.0. Updating is really simple, all you need to do is plug in your iPod Touch or iPhone and click the Check for Updates button. Remember, you need iTunes 8.2 in order to update to iPhone OS 3.0. iTunes will prompt you to update to iTunes 8.2 if you haven't already. I suggest doing it right now so you can quickly update tomorrow.

I know some people like to just download and restore iPhone OS 3.0 from the web instead of using iTunes to download. I'll post the direct download links to iPhone firmware 3.0 once it's out.

In WWDC 2009 Apple revealed the new iPhone 3G S to us. The iPhone 3G S will be available to the US through AT&T on June 19th, 2009. You can preorder the iPhone 3G S by going to http://www.apple.com/iphone or http://www.wireless.att.com/iphone.

Apple also announced the release date for the iPhone OS 3.0 software. You can download iPhone OS 3.0 firmware on June 17 2009. iPhone OS 3.0 firmware will be available to all iPhone owners for free while iPod Touch owners will need to pay an additional $10 fee to download the newer version. The $10 fee is nothing new, Apple did this to iPod Touch owners with iPhone firmware 2.0 also. I will post the free download links for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware here once it is out. You can download iPhone OS 3.0 GM from torrents but I don't recommend downloading that because it's only for developers and you may be stuck on this firmware if you use it. Just wait until June 19th for the final iPhone OS 3.0 release! I will also post a jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0 guide once it's out.

As a developer actively working with iPhone OS 3.0 beta, we would like your help in testing the Apple Push Notification service. We have selected a pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 to create a high-volume test environment for our servers.
To participate, we ask that you follow these steps:

Download the pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 from the iTunes Store via your desktop by entering this unique redemption code in the 'Redeem' section of iTunes, found under the 'Quick Links' section:

Background Apps on iPhone OS 3.0

Will iPhone OS 3.0 allow developers to make iPhone apps that run on the background? Apple has been restricting apps from running on the background because they say that background apps drain the battery of the iPhone really fast. According to a post on Business Insider, Apple may allow apps to run on the background when iPhone OS 3.0 is out. Right now this is a rumor, but you if you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch you can still run apps on the background using the free Backgroundr app from Cydia.

Today Apple announced iPod Touch firmware 3.0 software and iPhone firmware 3.0 software. The iPhone Dev-Team have confirmed that you can jailbreak iPod Touch 3.0. When is the jailbreak going to be released? You will need to wait until summer when the official iPod Touch 3.0 firmware and iPhone 3.0 firmware is released.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1 Guide

You can jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1 now. The iPhone Dev Team has come out with an exploit that allows you to fully untether your iPod Touch 2G. The QuickPWN/PwnageTool software isn't out yet but Dev-Team has said they will release it in their next update.

In my last post I posted about the iPod Touch 2.2 update, but I just remembered that some people don't want to pay for it and they want to download the iPod Touch 2.2 .ipsw file. I've posted the free download of iPod Touch 2.2 here. Just click the link below, right-click and save it to your desktop. Then launch iTunes and click shift+restore, choose the 2.2 firmware and let it upgrade your iPod Touch to the latest firmware! Remember, you can't jailbreak it yet! I will make a detailed guide once the jailbreak is available.

Apple has finally released the iPod Touch 2.2 update. After looking at the list of the iPod Touch 2.2 features I think it's really worth the upgrade. So you should go ahead and upgrade! But wait, do you have a jailbroken iPod Touch? Sorry, there is no jailbreak for iPod Touch 2.2 firmware yet. You will have to wait until there is one released by the Dev Team. I will keep you updated and make a post once it is released.

So what are the new iPod Touch 2.2 features? Here is a list of the features:

App Store Policy Change

To the delight of all, but especially for developers, Apple has released the software review of EU policy to require that the fact that the application in question before the publication of an audit and opinion. There was a large number of articles on how this was not only harmful to consumers, but for developers of applications, such as those from a LiteNiteSoft.

Therefore, it would be the development of the iPhone App Store in the short and long term. This was again at the beginning of the month of July, but better late than never.

Since its inception in July, just a process of review was one of constant complaints or inquiries from the App Store. The old procedure, which is the same as the current policy of podcasts, movies, TV shows and music, to check who applcation, regardless of whether this person had purchased the application or not. The result is often that you expect: 100 Comments Kvetching on prices, even from people who made the request. This is not just for the developer, and it is unfair to potential buyers.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 2.1

Finally, a jailbreak for the iPod Touch 2.1 firmware is released! Thanks to jfb392, Zombiekiller, and QuickPWN for helping release this iPod Touch 2.1 jailbreak. This jailbreak is a bit complicated, so if you're not an expert with computers/computer software then this isn't for you. If you really want to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2.1 then follow the below instructions. Or you can just wait until the iPod Touch 2.1 GUI jailbreak comes out, which can take weeks.

iPod Touch 2.1 Jailbreak

To jailbreak your iPod Touch 2.1 firmware, you must first be running a jailbroken firmware and be able to SSH into it.

1. SSH into your iPod Touch and download a backup copy of your MobileInstallation file from /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework

2. Download iPod Touch 2.1, shift-click restore in iTunes to install it.

3. Download QuickPWN, and launch the QuickPWN.exe file. Follow the instructions in there until you get the "Your Device has successfully been PWNED" message at the end.

4. Once your iPod Touch reboots, your iPod Touch 2.1 is jailbroken, except you won't have Installer/Cydia just yet. Follow the below instructions to get these apps on there.

5. Download Total Commander and the T-Pot plugin:

6. Launch Total Commander, and navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework

7. Replace the MobileInstallation file with the one you downloaded in the beginning

That's it! Reboot your iPod Touch 2.1 and you will see Installer and Cydia. Congratulations you now have a jailbroken iPod Touch 2.1.
