The Last House on the Left Review

This is a remake of the original Last House on the Left in which i have not seen but if this represents the first movie in the same way, then i know i won’t be disappointed. A small group of cowardly killers find their way in the middle of nowhere enduring a tremulous thunderstorm, trying to find any shelter they can get. What they don’t realize is they are in for a huge surprise of their own after they had kidnapped two girls and thought they killed them both. They find themselves in the comfort of a couple’s home after being invited in and then shortly after a discovery has been made and they will soon regret of ever going to the couple’s home.
This movie has some real brutal scenes that include a lot of blood being spilt and true madness. I didn’t know what to expect of this film nor did I really read much about it before I watched it but I enjoyed this movie and it was done by Wes Craven so this was no amateur B flick. There are quite a few gut wrenching scenes and you will not be disappointed with revenge at its best. Official Movie Website: The Last House on the Left

The Midnight Meat Train Review

Clive Barker is still one of my favorites and he did not disappoint me in this slasher/horror flick. A freelance photographer (Bradley Cooper) who likes to capture the city life through his camera and not always the glitz of it but also the ugliness. There have been recent reports that people have been disappearing after boarding a subway that always leaves at 2:00 AM which is the last trip of the day. While he was in the subway station looking to take some pictures, he captures a woman being haggled by a group of men who in turn try to start an altercation with him but he points out that their are video cameras recording everything they were trying to do. He thinks that she is now safe but then the true horror begins and the meaning of Meat Train comes into full effect.

If you like slasher flicks then this is a really good movie, plenty of blood and gore. The killer played by Vinnie Jones does a real good job and he was perfect for this role with his straight-faced and cold-hearted look. After thinking that this was just about another killer that just killed people that were on the train, it has a whole different reason but you must see it to fully understand there is more to it than that. can’t say enough about this movie as it was well acted and another fine movie by Clive Barker. If there is anything negative about the movie, it was somewhat predictable but still was a great movie. Official movie website The Midnight Meat Train

Land of the Lost Review

Wow this was bad. Not a real big fan of Will Ferrell but i do like some of his movies but i wasn’t sure if this was supposed to be a comedy or taken seriously. I remember watching the original show when i was a kid and it wasn’t a comedy then but i guess if you have Will Ferrell to the cast then it has to be a comedy. This is really a poor reproduction of a tv series made into movie and i didn’t even finish the whole movie, so that is how bad i thought it was. I have only come across a few movies that i could not watch fully but if you want a comedic take of Land of the Lost and are a fan of Will Farrell then by all means see it but be warned it is not his best effort from his previous movies. It’s hard to find something good to say about this movie but if there is anything, the Sleestaks (reptile looking creatures) were represented pretty well and the overall environment was pretty true to form of the series. Long time…

Well it has been awhile since i last posted a review so i decided its time to try and get back to it. So many movies i have seen but i am not going to attempt to review everyone from my last post till now, that would be insane. lol So I’m going to post some recent movies that i have seen.

Fred Claus Review

Vince Vaughn plays the older brother “Fred” of good ol’ Saint Nick (Paul Giamatti). Ever since Nick was born, Fred always felt left out because Nick would get all the attention and Fred would be the one always causing trouble. So Nick becomes the good son and Fred would just slowly fade away into adulthood. Fred hadn’t seen his brother since he was a kid, then things got bad for Fred and he needed some help. So he decides to call his brother and ask him for money that he desperately needed. Nick decides that he would help his brother out since he is Santa and that is what he does, so the only condition he had was Fred would have to earn it by going to the north pole and helping out. With everything on a tight deadline for Christmas, there is no room for any distractions especially when the efficiency expert Clyde Northcutt (Kevin Spacey) is on his way to inspect Santa’s workshop and find any way possible to shut it down for good.

This was a fun movie for all ages with plenty of laughs. I wasn’t sure if i would have liked it but i was surprised and it was a pretty good movie. Only thing that was kinda of odd was that the Clauses do not age or are immortal i should say. That was probably the only flaw i had with the movie but other then that it was very entertaining. The X Files: I Want To Believe Review

This made me believe that they shouldn’t have tried to make another X Files movie. Mulder (Dave Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are back again but they have seemed to put the past behind them as they are both retired from the FBI but a string of disappearances gets Mulder and Scully involved. Being seeked out by Agent Whitney (Amanda Peet) to see a priest (Billy Connolly) who claims that he has visions of crimes, Mulder wants to believe that he does have these supernatural powers.

Other then the supernatural powers or visions that the priest sees, there really is nothing else that would make this an unordinary movie. When you think of X Files, you think of aliens, monsters or mutants but this movie really didn’t have any of that. It had some strange things but i think they just tried to hard to make another movie which was a real lackluster. The disappearances are not done in any supernatural way or from any type of odd creature. I think it was just missing a more supernatural feeling besides the priest who was having visions. The Dark Knight Review

After seeing this for the first time in the theater, i watched it again recently and i have some mixed thoughts about this movie. I thought this movie was really great from the first time i saw it and only problem that i had with it was the raspy voice that Batman had. Christian Bale does a good job as Batman but i just don’t like how his voice sounds and i don’t recall any other Batman movie where they really emphasized on that type of voice. Although it might be a little knit picking but it just seems like he is trying to hard and he has a hairball in his throat. maybe since this was a darker version of Batman, they wanted him to sound the part. The whole movie itself is great and i really enjoyed watching Heath Ledger as Joker. It’s hard to compare who was the best Joker between everyone who has played that character because it was a different representation each time. I really liked Jack Nicholson as the Joker cause i thought he was funnier but i also liked Heath because it was a darker side of the Joker yet his humor was more wicked but still funny. I could compare other characters but that will just go on an on. The Dark Knight had plenty of action, a good story, nice special effects, precise fighting choreography and enough innovative action scenes to keep you interested and not thinking it is just another Batman movie. Taken Review

This movie is not “officially” out yet until January 30, 2009 but i happen to have already seen it. This was a great movie and perhaps Liam Neeson’s best action movie if not best movie overall. Bryan Mills (Neeson) and Lenore (Famke Janssen) find out that their daughter (Maggie Grace) was kidnapped while she was on a trip in Paris. Bryan stops at nothing to find his daughter and the people responsible for the abduction of his daughter. With little help from French authorities, he decides he needs to do all the investigating himself or he will never see his daughter again. Official Movie Website: Taken

Irreversible Review

This movie is very raw, intense and for mature audiences only. The camera work can get you dizzy and at the beginning it was not really making much sense to the point of the spinning camera movement. From a movie not starting out so good, it was actually a really good movie. It was a different approach to a film as the movie basically starts from the ending and ends at the beginning, kinda weird but it all makes perfect sense in the end. The movie is basically about a woman (Monica Bellucci) getting raped and beaten up, while her boyfriend (Vincent Cassel) and ex boyfriend (Albert Dupontel) are trying to find who did this to her to get revenge. Like i said it all starts from the end to the beginning so there really is nothing more i can say without giving away the movie. It is a foreign film with subtitles and it really is a good movie but not for everyone who can’t handle seeing sexual violence as this movie is graphic. IMDB Overview: Irreversible

Pineapple Express Review

Not really knowing what this movie was about with its title, i had no idea what it meant. Basically the movie is backed behind Pineapple Express in which is a “herb” and pretty much the whole movie it is about smoking it and “weed” in general. Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) is a court process clerk and on one delivery he witnesses a murder by a drug lord and police officer. He quickly speeds off in his car unknowing leaves his weed in plain site. Not knowing what to do he erratically goes to his own drug dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) and sees if there is anyway that the weed he dropped could be traced back to him. Saul thinks that Dale is just over reacting but in reality the drug lord is in fact on the trail to find them both.

I thought this was going to be a real funny movie but i was disappointed and it really was not all that funny. I guess if you make a movie about weed and potheads then it is supposed to be hilarious. There were some funny scenes but for the most part it was rather dull and uninteresting. Official Movie Website: Pineapple Express
