Today we have released a very exciting feature for the Freelancer Unplugged brand – a brand new jobs board! At the moment it is an extremely blank canvas but we are working behind the scenes to get attention from some of the big players in the marketing/advertising world to change that.

The job categories at the top (Writer, Photographer etc) are subject to change with the needs of the advertisers/users so feel free to make suggestions where needed.

This new addition will pull us closer in line with the curent trends and needs of a freelancer and will hopefully make your search for new work much easier. If you know of anyone looking for a designer, photographer and more, let them know they can advertise their job for free!

Thomas Simunsen – I thoroughly enjoyed it, to meet different people in life is always exciting and as I have said “you never stop learning”. It was a very entertaining night. thanks to Jacob, Diesel, Flic, Danny, Kaye and so many others!!

Jacqui Quek – It was very stimulating, interesting and enjoyable to be a part of. The panelists answered many questions that were in the back of my mind that I didn’t think were important to think about, but actually were! Also, I liked the diversity and the different experiences and backgrounds each came from. Good stuff thanks again for organising the event, I’m glad I went!

Danny Silver – was great to be a part of the event. thank you to panelists and attendees. looking forward to plenty more FU gigs to come!

Bubble Doll – The panel was was excellent! It was great to hear their share of experiences with writing, tips and suggestions, the bouncing of ideas along with humor – very entertaining! It was an awesome evening!

And I am sure there is more to come! Our photographer on the night Damien Coup has sent through some pictures which display the fun, humour and inspiration floating around the room, and I’m sure you will agree!

Today, we have opened up some new features (consider them BETA) and the first one is:

The LIKE Button! You can now LIKE anything that someone posts on the front page. Something a bit groovy ey?

The second feature is the addition of the YouTube-goodness! You can now post ANY YouTube video via your status update by just typing in the address (e.g. http ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC2NMxl7EX8&feature=player_embedded will turn into an embedded YouTube video) – which is a really nifty feature for sharing those inspirational videos around the site!

As you can see, Freelancer Unplugged is now a little bit different! Apart from having a brand new theme (designed by yours truly) we have many more features all thanks to the Buddypress team (the brains behind the Social network here). There may be some slight kinks here and there and if you do notice anything odd please let us know.

Apart from all the previous features, there are many new features bursting at the seams! Here’s a basic list:

1. Big Status Update area right there for you to use
2. Interactive Activity Stream (home page) where you can Reply and Favorite items
3. New theme and Template Design (wider pages, easier navigation, simpler reading)
4. Easier posting to the forums/creation of New Topics
5. ‘@ identifiers’ linking – which notifies whoever you choose (e.g. typing @FRIENDSNAME into your status update will send a notification to that person) – Great for updates like “Had a great time chatting to @diesellaws the other day!”
6. On-site Inbox and message area – Just making it even easier to see your Inbox items

We really hope that with these improvements and changes that you can move ahead forging new friendships, business connections and opportunities.

“Last night we talked about online advertising (social media and otherwise) and I mentioned a Harvard Business Review article that I had read which had kind of put me off pay per click and other such ads. The reality is, in any advertising setting, print/tv/online/radio, you will run the risk of not getting your return on investment. The key is to find the right outlet in the first place.
If I was advertising King Gee Workwear, I’d use the radio. Why? Because every labourer I see during the day has the radio on… Without fail!! Either on site, or between jobs. Just remember to isolate who your target audience is, and youre on a roll to finding the right medium for promotion ” – Kaye Waterhouse.
