<description>It is theoretically possible, however it's highly unlikely with your
rt73 stick. It has standard output power (probably 30 mW) and has a
crummy antenna design. For the record, Wi-Fi is intended to be used
at some distance; anything less than 3 m (10') is susceptible to
overloading the RF input stage of any device, causing at the very
least garbled data and in the worst case hardware damage may occur.
At those distances, you should just use a cable.

<description>You're referring to RF overload. I really would not worry about it in
this case especially if you're trying to crack your own network.
You'll need a wireless client to pass data on it so your Ralink card
can collect the packets you'll need for cracking. There are cases
where a device can get damaged but it's not entirely common,
especially in this application. It's more meant that you should stay a
meter away from the wireless access point that you're trying to crack.
But again, damage isn't THAT common.

You don't need to turn off your Airport card if you're using an external

 Uninstall the Ralink drivers.

You can find a DMG there for the device which includes an uninstaller.
You'll probably need to restart your computer.

Launch KisMAC.
Go to preferences.
Select the rt73 driver (your device has an rt73 chipset).
Exit prefs.

So in still shorter words, the next version (anything &gt;0.12a) will work definitely with e.g. 3com PC-Card

So whats the special thing about the GTDriver?

I only want to have an advise which wlan card is good for things like lurking into others networks with passive mode with kismac?
I now own only Airport Extreme card but want to use all the features combined with passive mode.
Eventually the option for an external antenna would be nice.
